TIMO - Chapter 48

Chapter 48

The crowd that had filed in quickly dispersed, soon leaving only Kong Weiyan and Doctor Liu behind.

"There are no major issues. Her bodily functions are all normal. She'll recover after a few more days of rest."

After saying this, Doctor Liu closed the medical chart and left without delay.

Kong Weiyan thanked her, and only after seeing Doctor Liu out did she pat her chest and breathe a sigh of relief. She then poured a glass of warm water and brought it to Fu Zhao. "Are you thirsty? Here, have some water?"

She held the glass to Fu Zhao's lips, but the person still showed no reaction, staring dazedly at the video clip playing on a loop on the television screen, completely motionless.

Kong Weiyan followed Fu Zhao's gaze. The video showed a clip of their band's performance at the closing ceremony. The stage's cold pyrotechnics flickered, dazzling and brilliant. In the center of the frame, Fu Zhao struck the drumhead to the rhythm of the song, her eyes lowered and her lip bitten, her shyness visible to the naked eye. The beautiful and stunning Shi Nan sat beside her, smiling like a blooming flower, her eyes bright and teeth pearly, her shoulders swaying gently with the rhythm.

Finally, amidst the deafening roar of the crowd, Shi Nan's eyes curved as she leaned over and kissed Fu Zhao.

Both were wearing white shirts, one radiant, the other cool and aloof. Bathed in a circle of light, they created a harmonious and beautiful picture.

If only she hadn't watched it hundreds of times over the past few days, to the point where she could almost recite the lyrics of both songs by heart.

"Ahem..."

Kong Weiyan cleared her throat, placed the glass on the bedside table, and pulled up a chair to sit down. She began to explain in a gentle, patient tone to the person who had just woken up and was clearly unaware of the situation.

"Doctor Liu said you were in a deep coma, and that hearing a familiar voice could help you wake up... But Island Master Fu has been busy dealing with the incident at the starship port these past few days, so I figured that, compared to me talking in your ear, Shi Nan's voice might be a bit more familiar to you..."

She rattled off the entire explanation, but still received no response from Fu Zhao. The person on the bed stared straight ahead, not even blinking.

Kong Weiyan was at a loss for words, knowing that Fu Zhao probably wouldn't register anything she said at this moment. Her gaze swept over Fu Zhao. After this whole ordeal, the newly awakened person didn't show much sign of illness. On the contrary, her skin was fair with a rosy glow, and her eyes were as clear and bright as jade, as if they had been rinsed in a mountain spring--translucent and clean.

Even while spacing out like a big fool, she was a very pretty fool.

Having reached this conclusion, she reached out to check the temperature of Fu Zhao's forehead and muttered to herself, "She seems fine, and her body's recovering well, even healthier than before. So why won't she talk or acknowledge anyone?"

"Are you actually awake, or not?"

After she said this, Fu Zhao finally reacted. Her eyelashes trembled and lowered, and then those amber eyes looked over, clear and bright.

"Who... are you?"

Having been unconscious for several days, her voice was still a bit hoarse and low.

Kong Weiyan was stunned by Fu Zhao's question and nearly collapsed in her chair. Her mouth opened and closed as if to say something, but she held it back. It all came down to one sentence, her voice trembling slightly, "Don't... don't you scare me! Don't you dare tell me you have amnesia!"

But Fu Zhao didn't answer her question. She just clutched the corner of the blanket without a word, a shimmering light in her eyes. "And who... am I?"

Kong Weiyan suddenly gripped Fu Zhao's arm, her voice unconsciously rising in an agitated tone.

"You're Fu Zhao!!"

"You forgot? This is Nanke Island, and you're the Little Island Master of Nanke Island! Your mother is Fu Wanqing, and your best friend for life is named Kong Weiyan, which is me. Oh, right, you also owe me ten million interstellar credits..."

"Kong Weiyan..."

Fu Zhao called out her name, her expression unchanged, as she pulled away the hand that was gripping her arm painfully. "You'll get what's coming to you for trying to swindle me."

"Ohhh~"

Kong Weiyan's tone became leisurely. She calmly picked up the glass of warm water she had just poured and handed it over again. "I thought you'd actually forgotten. Isn't that how it always plays out in the movies?"

"How is it? Do you feel anything out of place?"

Normally, having just woken from a coma, Fu Zhao should have felt weak and sore all over.

But when Kong Weiyan asked, Fu Zhao, taking the water she offered, realized that her whole body felt light. She didn't seem like someone who would need such a major check-up upon waking. Instead, it felt as if she had simply had a good night's sleep, leaving her completely refreshed.

Physically, aside from some slowness in her reactions after sleeping for so long, there was nothing else wrong.

But in her heart, she felt that many things were wrong.

She slowly took a sip of water. The warm liquid soothed the dryness in her mouth and the burning sensation welling up in her heart. She silently swirled the glass in her hand, watching as the ripples on the water's surface gradually overlapped. Only then, as if making casual conversation, did she start a new topic.

"I had a very, very long dream."

"Oh, that's normal. Just think of it as a long sleep. Dreaming is perfectly normal," Kong Weiyan said dismissively, casually taking the glass from Fu Zhao's hand to add more warm water.

"But this dream was too real."

Fu Zhao's brow furrowed as if she were deep in thought, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her temples from the intensity of her thoughts. "So real that I thought it had all actually happened to me."

"I even thought..." She blinked in a daze. "That I had already died."

As she spoke, she raised a hand to her chest. Feeling the steady, strong beat of her heart, she still felt a phantom pain lingering there.

Watching Fu Zhao's actions, Kong Weiyan crossed her arms and spoke with calm composure, "Did you dream that you were lying in Shi Nan's arms, covered in blood, and then died in her embrace?"

Fu Zhao shot up in bed, staring at Kong Weiyan in astonishment. "How did you know?"

Kong Weiyan paused in the act of pouring water. Then, under Fu Zhao's surprised and disbelieving gaze, she pushed the glass back into Fu Zhao's hands. She raised an eyebrow thoughtfully, her eyes holding a profound meaning.

"Because none of it was a dream. It all really happened to you." After saying this, she lowered her gaze, retracting the deep meaning hidden in her eyes, and waited quietly for Fu Zhao to speak.

Fu Zhao was stunned. She asked, completely bewildered, "What do you mean? Are you saying I really died? What about Shi Nan? How is she now?"

Kong Weiyan pursed her lips and answered Fu Zhao's questions concisely. "You didn't die, and Shi Nan is fine too. She's just still unconscious. But since you're awake, I expect she'll be waking up soon too."

"You really dreamed about that?" Kong Weiyan leaned closer, still feeling a little scared just thinking about it. "Before, when there was no movement from you and Shi Nan inside, we realized something was wrong. But by the time we got in, it was too late. The two of you... my god, that scene... In short, you were covered in blood from head to toe, and so was Shi Nan. I think it was all your blood, actually..."

She clicked her tongue at this point. "I don't know what you're made of, losing so much blood and still being alive and kicking. And you even-"

"Where is Shi Nan? I want to see her," Fu Zhao said, growing anxious as she listened to Kong Weiyan's long-winded account and cutting her off.

Kong Weiyan wasn't annoyed at being interrupted. Instead, as if remembering something, she clicked her tongue again. "Why did you stop calling her Nannan? Weren't you calling her that so sincerely and heartfeltly before? Now that you're awake, she's back to being 'Shi Nan'?"

I was covered in blood?

Right, she remembered that before she lost consciousness, her whole body was in excruciating pain, as if she were being roasted over a fire. So that was because she had lost so much blood.

Shi Nan is fine. She's about to wake up.

Listening to Kong Weiyan's teasing, this was the only thought in Fu Zhao's mind. But her face grew hot at the memory of the name she had blurted out back then. She just pursed her lips and said nothing.

Kong Weiyan was relentless, her tone exaggerated and vivid.

"I wonder who it was that, even while unconscious, kept calling out 'Nannan,' 'Nannan.' I counted, you know. During the seven days and seven nights you were unconscious, you called out 'Nannan' 2,375 times. My god, my ears were about to fall off."

"Tell me honestly..." She raised an eyebrow, her face full of gossip. "In that very, very long dream, besides being covered in blood, was there anything else... hmm?"

Fu Zhao didn't want to engage with Kong Weiyan's nonsense. She just stared straight at her and said softly,

"I want to see Shi Nan."

"I know you want to go..."

Kong Weiyan replied gently, then her tone shifted. "But your own condition is still unstable. If you want to see Shi Nan, you'll have to wait until both of you are doing better."

"But I don't feel like my condition is bad, nor do I feel unstable," Fu Zhao answered quickly.

"Really?"

Kong Weiyan's expression was calm, her tone light. "Take a look at where you are right now."

Kong Weiyan's words made Fu Zhao pause. Her gaze instinctively swept around the room. It was a white hospital room, with a sealed, transparent glass wall on the outermost side. The windows and doors were tightly shut, looking as if not even a fly could get in.

"This place..." Confusion colored her eyes. "It's exactly the same as Shi Nan's previous private room..."

"That's right, you're not wrong."

Kong Weiyan nodded, a gratified light in her eyes. "So, do you smell anything in the air?"

The scent in the air...

She hadn't noticed it until Kong Weiyan mentioned it. But with the reminder, Fu Zhao realized that a faint, rich tea fragrance was drifting through the air, sweet and aromatic.

"The scent of tea?"

"Are you brewing tea?" Fu Zhao asked blankly.

Kong Weiyan gave her a look that said, "Are you an idiot?" Her lips moved a few times, and she was speechless for a long while before she managed to squeeze out a few words. "I'm not brewing tea..."

"I know you were an ignorant Beta before, but you should at least be able to tell the difference between the scent of regular tea and a pheromone."

"The scent of a pheromone?"

Fu Zhao asked back, uncomprehending, "Whose pheromone?"

"Yours."

Kong Weiyan answered crisply. Seeing Fu Zhao's uncomprehending expression, she sighed softly, figuring it was probably best to be direct.

"Fu Zhao, you've differentiated into an Alpha."
