PANT - Chapter 45
Chapter 45
“Look at you, so scared. Are you that worried I’ll steal your wife away?” Mo Lingyuan looked at Shi Ning’s expression and smiled, her lips curling with a hint of mockery. “Do you have that little confidence in yourself?”
Faced with her provocation, Shi Ning narrowed her eyes. “Yes, I am worried.”
She made no effort to hide her emotions, which made Mo Lingyuan feel that this Shi Ning was a complete stranger.
The Shi Ning before her was no longer the familiar teenage girl whose eyes always held a fervent light when she looked at her. At this moment, those eyes—as black as the night and as vast and unfathomable as the sea—were filled with a seriousness that astonished Mo Lingyuan.
Could time change a person this much?
Why did seeing this version of Shi Ning leave Mo Lingyuan with a sense of emptiness in her heart? It was as if, after all these years, she was the only one still stuck in place, unable to move on from the romantic entanglements of the past. But Shi Ning… Shi Ning had long since moved forward, with no trace of her left in her eyes.
She should be happy.
Happy that there was one less fool like her in the world.
“You like her,” Mo Lingyuan concluded.
Just one look from Shi Ning was all it took for Mo Lingyuan to understand that Shi Ning probably genuinely liked Su Tianxue.
She chuckled, easing the tense atmosphere. “I was just kidding. Besides, if she were that easy to steal, she wouldn’t be your wife—she’d be mine.”
Shi Ning slid one hand into her pocket and moved closer to Mo Lingyuan. She leaned in to Mo Lingyuan’s right side and covered the microphone clipped to her clothes. The conversation that followed could only be heard by the two of them.
Shi Ning said, “I know what you and Ye Wanlan are doing, and I know why you’re here. I’m grateful for your appearance, but, Mo Lingyuan, I don’t want to hear that joke of yours a second time.”
Shi Ning straightened up, her amiable smile returning as if she wasn’t the one who had just spoken those words.
“I haven’t asked you yet today, how has your health been recently?”
Shi Ning tilted her head slightly, indicating that she was asking about the gland on the back of her neck.
Mo Lingyuan smiled gently. “Very good. You don’t need to worry about me.”
Shi Ning said, “If you have any problems, just contact me.”
Her gaze was serious, filled with a sense of responsibility.
“You were injured because of me. I said I would take responsibility.”
This was “Shi Ning’s” promise to Mo Lingyuan.
Mo Lingyuan: “Take responsibility? How? By giving me your wife?”
Shi Ning: “Get lost.”
Mo Lingyuan: “She really is your bottom line.”
Mo Lingyuan said languidly, “I’m doing great. No need to pity me or worry about me. Making it this far is luck. From now on, it’s every woman for herself.”
Shi Ning: “Fine, then. I’m leaving.”
She turned around coolly. Staring at the closed door, Shi Ning reached into her pocket, only to realize… she didn’t have the room key!!
When she and Su Tianxue had parted ways earlier, she had given the key card to Su Tianxue. She placed her hand on the doorknob and found the door was shut tight and locked from the inside.
Shi Ning bent her finger and knocked. After waiting three seconds, there was no answer.
From behind her came the merciless laughter of her first love and ex-girlfriend.
“So, this is your standing in the family?”
Adhering to the principle of maintaining a brave face even in defeat, Shi Ning retorted, “At least I have a family now. Do you?”
【Bring it on! Let the mutual destruction begin!!!】
【The inescapable one-upmanship when faced with an ex who suddenly came back from the dead, hahaha.】
【Why is this kind of funny?】
Mo Lingyuan took out her own key card, swiped it with a beep, and entered her room, tossing a final remark at Shi Ning. “I have a room key right now. Do you?”
Mo Lingyuan: “How about it? Want to come sit in my room for a bit?”
Shi Ning: “Do you take me for a fool?”
Mo Lingyuan laughed heartily, entered her room, and shut the door with a click.
And so, Shi Ning was left standing alone in the hallway.
She tried several different poses before finally choosing to squat by the door, looking very much like a pitiful little beggar on the street waiting for a handout.
Twenty minutes later, the door beside Shi Ning finally opened.
Su Tianxue was wrapped in a bathrobe, her hair still damp and dripping slightly. She must have come out in a hurry, not even taking the time to dry her hair. The bathrobe wasn’t tied tightly, looking as if it had been thrown on casually, offering a tantalizing glimpse of her chest.
Shi Ning, still squatting on the floor, looked up at her pitifully. “Wife, you’re finally here.”
Su Tianxue: “I was in the shower and didn’t hear the bell. Have you been waiting long?”
Shi Ning shook her head. “I just squatted down.”
She tried to stand up as she said this, only to find that her calf had gone numb and stiff, making it impossible to get up smoothly.
Su Tianxue: “Just squatted down?”
Shi Ning: “Wuwu, my leg’s asleep.”
Su Tianxue sighed softly, stepped forward, and let Shi Ning lean on her, slowly helping her inside.
【This is hilarious. This scene looks a bit like someone helping a paralyzed old person, hahaha.】
【Legs falling asleep is really awful!!!】
【+1, it really is. My legs always fall asleep when I squat on the toilet for too long. I can totally relate to how Shi Ning feels right now!!】
【Too bad Shi Ning has a wife to help her when her leg’s asleep. Do you?】
【Stop hurting me, okay? How many people watching this show even have a wife?? Who can compare with whom??】
【Quietly raises hand. My wife and I are watching together.】
She helped Shi Ning into the room and had her sit on the edge of the bed to rest.
Su Tianxue: “Feeling better?”
Shi Ning: “It’s okay. It’s not that serious, really.”
Su Tianxue knelt in front of Shi Ning, then authoritatively lifted Shi Ning’s left calf and gave it a squeeze. “Here?”
Shi Ning yelped in pain, her entire face contorting. “Yes, yes, yes.”
Su Tianxue: “This is usually caused by poor blood circulation. The nerves temporarily lack sufficient oxygen supply from the blood, causing a brief numbness in the body. Massaging it will help.”
Shi Ning: “Mm.”
Shi Ning looked down at Su Tianxue earnestly massaging her leg. She watched her, wrapped in a bathrobe, her movements causing one fragrant shoulder to be half-exposed. Her damp black hair was scattered at her side, and her delicate, beautiful collarbones were perfectly clear…
Shi Ning suddenly remembered a serious problem.
Shi Ning: “Where’s the camera in this room?”
Su Tianxue glanced up to the right.
Shi Ning shot up into a sitting position. Her leg suddenly didn’t feel numb anymore. She strode over to the camera and gave the lens a threatening smile. “You all got lucky today. Don’t even think about watching what comes next.”
【What are you going to do???】
【No!!! Shi Ning, you wicked woman!! Stop!!!!】
【Nothing was even showing, why won’t you let us watch!!! The internet censors haven’t even said anything yet!!! Why are you being so old-fashioned!!!】
Shi Ning couldn’t see the bullet comments wailing in despair, and even if she could, she wouldn’t have paid them any mind.
She reached out and flipped the camera’s switch with a click.
In that instant, the live feed on everyone’s screen went black, and a line of red text appeared: Device Signal Interrupted.
Shi Ning’s action had clearly provoked public outrage.
Even though the live feed was gone, the bullet comments continued to refresh tirelessly.
【What’s going on? What’s going on?】
【Let us see!!!】
【You’re a billionaire, why are you being so stingy??】
【Su Tianxue is everyone’s wife!!!】
【What’s this situation??? This is a live broadcast, can the guests just turn off the cameras themselves? Tsk tsk!!!】
【Production team, come out and do something! Someone’s starting a rebellion.】
【Production team, you can tolerate this? I know I couldn’t.】
The director of the production team read these bullet comments and thought to herself that it wasn’t that she didn’t want to solve the problem, but that she really didn’t dare to.
The one who turned off the camera was her boss.
If she went up and scolded her boss now, then after the show was done filming, it would be her boss’s turn to scold her.
And at that point, what her boss would be shutting off wouldn’t be a camera, but the door to her career!
Play dead! Just one big act of playing dead!
Seeing that the production team was unmoved, the bullet comments cursed the team for being cowardly and useless, while also speculating and discussing whether Shi Ning and Su Tianxue would argue over Mo Lingyuan.
In the room, Su Tianxue watched Shi Ning frantically turn off the camera and asked her, “What’s the rush?”
Shi Ning: “Why wouldn’t I be in a rush? If I don’t turn it off now, they’ll all see you like this.”
Su Tianxue didn’t understand. “Like what?”
Shi Ning: “Like you are right now.”
Su Tianxue: “…I’ve covered everything I’m supposed to cover.”
Hearing Su Tianxue’s words, Shi Ning felt helpless.
How could she explain it to Su Tianxue?
Sometimes, it wasn’t being completely naked that was sexy. The way Su Tianxue was now, with everything covered, possessed a kind of fresh and elegant beauty like a lotus emerging from the water. That was the atmosphere of sexiness.
Forget it.
Shi Ning didn’t dwell on the matter.
Seeing that Su Tianxue wanted to pour some water, she scurried over like an eager puppy, took the teapot and cup, and helped her.
Su Tianxue observed her behavior and gave her a suspicious look. “Are you hiding something from me?”
Shi Ning quickly shook her head. “No.” Her voice lacked conviction.
Su Tianxue: “Then you?”
Su Tianxue glanced at the teapot.
Shi Ning cleared her throat, unable to resist probing, “Just now… Wife, did Mo Lingyuan say anything to you just now?”
Upon hearing this, Su Tianxue gave Shi Ning a faint look and set down the teacup she had just picked up. “What did you want her to say?”
Shi Ning: “Of course I wanted her to say nothing at all.”
Su Tianxue let out an “oh.”
“Are you worried she’d tell me things about your past together?”
Shi Ning: “Not worried. I’m not worried at all.”
She and Mo Lingyuan had no past to speak of. Even if Mo Lingyuan said something, it had nothing to do with her. It was mainly related to the other “Shi Ning.”
She was just worried that Mo Lingyuan would really act on a whim and try to seduce her wife. What a loss that would be for her.
However…
Shi Ning looked at Su Tianxue, a smile on her face as she leaned in to ask, “Wife, are you jealous?”
Su Tianxue: “Why do I feel like you’re a little excited?”
Shi Ning: “What would I be excited about?”
Su Tianxue: “What? Are you happy to see me jealous?”
Shi Ning was good at getting to the point. Her eyes lit up as she exclaimed, “So you really are jealous?”
Su Tianxue couldn’t quite describe the feeling in her heart. She didn’t feel any negative emotions like jealousy because of Mo Lingyuan’s appearance, but she was indeed affected and felt a little annoyed.
Mo Lingyuan’s actions were tantamount to a provocation right in front of her.
Alphas had their own possessiveness and territorial awareness; otherwise, they wouldn’t resort to marking Omegas. This wolf-like way of life was deeply ingrained in their blood.
Su Tianxue already considered Shi Ning to be within her territory.
At the same time, she didn’t want Shi Ning to be caught up in a media frenzy again because of Mo Lingyuan’s appearance.
The incident with Xu Lulu was probably enough to make people online prejudiced against Shi Ning. Now, here was Mo Lingyuan.
Su Tianxue felt that things might not be that simple.
She glanced at the camera Shi Ning had just turned off and confirmed again, “You turned off the camera?”
Shi Ning hummed in affirmation, trying to guess the meaning behind Su Tianxue’s question. “Should I… turn it back on?”
Su Tianxue: “It’s good that it’s off.”
Shi Ning let out a “wow.” “Wife, are you thinking of engaging in some activities not meant for prying eyes with me?”
Su Tianxue: “…Can you be a little more serious?”
Shi Ning said earnestly, “I am being very serious.”
Su Tianxue: “You call this serious?”
She was already starting to worry about when Shi Ning’s company would go bankrupt.
Shi Ning: “Wanting to have more intimate contact with the person you like—isn’t that serious?”
Su Tianxue’s gaze flickered slightly. She didn’t miss the term Shi Ning had used: the person you like.
She gently kicked Shi Ning under the table.
Su Tianxue: “I want to talk to you about something serious.”
Shi Ning leaned back nonchalantly, her hands resting on the arms of the chair. “When have you ever not talked to me about something serious?”
Seeing that Su Tianxue was about to get angry, Shi Ning quickly raised her hands in a gesture of surrender. “Okay, okay, you talk, you talk. I promise I won’t interrupt.”
Su Tianxue pondered for a moment. “Did you organize this romance show?”
Shi Ning was startled. “How did you know?”
Then she thought about how Su Wanxing had pulled Su Tianxue away earlier and guessed, “Su Wanxing told you?”
Su Tianxue hummed in agreement.
Shi Ning asked again, “Did she tell you anything else?”
She wondered if that girl Su Wanxing would tell Su Tianxue everything about the plot.
Su Tianxue tilted her head in thought. “Like the love story between you and your first girlfriend?”
At these words, Shi Ning coughed awkwardly. “Wife, that’s all in the past.”
“I have a new love with you now.”
Su Tianxue: “You don’t have to be afraid. I didn’t plan on talking about that.”
Su Tianxue picked up her teacup and took a light sip. “I didn’t know about the romance show before. Now that I do, Shi Ning, I want to say thank you.”
“Whether it’s about Su Wanxing or me, you’ve helped a lot. Thank you.”
Su Tianxue knew it would be inappropriate to be overly sentimental at this point. She had already received Shi Ning’s money, which had solved her urgent problem.
Moreover, she could understand that the reason Shi Ning had chosen this method to give her money was entirely out of consideration for her pride. After all, given her personality, she would never have accepted help from others so openly.
That’s why Shi Ning had come up with such a plan.
She was not an ungrateful person.
Shi Ning explained, “You don’t have to feel too burdened. This wasn’t done solely to help you. The show needed people to participate anyway. I just happened to save this opportunity for us.”
Shi Ning shrugged. “I was going to spend the money anyway, so why not spend it on my own family, right?”
Su Tianxue rubbed the rim of the cup, the steam from the tea swirling around her fingertips. “No matter what, I still have to thank you.”
Looking at Su Tianxue like this, Shi Ning felt that the sense of distance between them, which hadn’t appeared for a long time, had returned.
Shi Ning raised an eyebrow. “A thank you requires sincerity. Just casually saying three words… I don’t feel much sincerity from that.”
Su Tianxue was calm. “Then what do you want?”
Without hesitation, Shi Ning leaned forward, tilted her chin up, and puckered her red lips. “Wife, I don’t want much. Just give me a loving kiss.”
Su Tianxue: “…Have you been infected by Xin Ya these past two days?”
Shi Ning: “Mhm, yes. I’ve been infected. Only a loving kiss from my wife can save me from this infectious disease.”
After a long wait, so long that Shi Ning thought Su Tianxue would never agree to her request, Su Tianxue suddenly placed her hands on the table between them, leaned down, and kissed her.
It was a very light kiss.
Beside them, outside the glass walls of the ocean-view room, luminous jellyfish were flashing, and playful fish swam by. The fish seemed curious about what these two people were doing with their mouths pressed together, so they swam closer to the glass as if to observe.
Shi Ning was getting into the kiss and wanted to deepen it, but Su Tianxue had already pulled away and returned to her seat across from her. Then she looked at her and asked, “Is that enough?”
Shi Ning grumbled twice. “Not enough. I want more.”
Su Tianxue: “You can keep dreaming.”
Shi Ning grumbled through her nose again.
Su Tianxue teased her, “Do you think you’re still a three-year-old? Acting like a little piglet?”
Shi Ning: “Can a three-year-old kiss you?”
Seeing that the topic was about to be steered in another direction by Shi Ning, Su Tianxue quickly stopped her and said seriously again, “Anyway, thank you for doing so much for me. And for Wanxing.”
To Shi Ning, these words sounded a bit too polite.
She leaned forward, her hands propped on the coffee table. Her red hair was set against the blue of the ocean behind her, like a flame that had fallen into the deep sea, burning in its own way.
Shi Ning: “I’m not some kind-hearted person. Su Tianxue, do you know what I mean? I wouldn’t help another person like this for no reason.”
“I’m not a saint.”
Her gaze was fervent and unconcealed, almost enough to burn away the desert in Su Tianxue’s heart completely.
Su Tianxue tilted her head slightly and asked, “So, you like me?”
She then speculated, “Or do you like my body?”
Shi Ning smiled. “Are you sure you still want to use a question at a time like this?”
The woman’s eyes were sincere, burning with a fiery passion. “Su Tianxue, I like you. Isn’t that obvious?”
“As for your body,” Shi Ning flicked her long hair, “my body says she likes it very much too.”
Seeing Su Tianxue’s momentarily stunned expression, Shi Ning’s eyes widened in disbelief. “You don’t mean… you didn’t realize it before?”
Su Tianxue felt a little guilty, her eyes darting around. “I thought it was all an act for the show.”
Shi Ning: “……Do I look like the kind of person who would stoop so low for money, even to the point of selling my own feelings?”
Su Tianxue looked at Shi Ning very seriously, then replied, “Mhm, a little.”
If Shi Ning hadn’t been sitting firmly in her chair, she felt like Su Tianxue’s words would have knocked her right off it, sending her tumbling to the floor with a bruised behind.
She said, both angry and helpless, “Su Tianxue, I really don’t know what to do with you. Do you understand now? There’s no show effect, no acting for the occasion. Every word I say, everything I do, is because I like you a little.”
Su Tianxue asked curiously, “Do you think there’s any difference between how you like me and how you liked Mo Lingyuan?”
“Huh??” Hearing this question gave Shi Ning a headache.
What could she say?
That the person who liked Mo Lingyuan back then wasn’t her, but another version of herself?
Who would believe that?
If she really said that, Su Tianxue would probably send her to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
Shi Ning also felt she couldn’t casually describe the “original owner’s” feelings for Mo Lingyuan.
To speak of them too lightly would be disrespectful to the feelings the “original owner” had invested.
Shi Ning asked, not understanding, “Why are you asking this question?”
Su Tianxue explained, “I want to find a frame of reference.”
Seeing that Shi Ning didn’t understand, Su Tianxue didn’t explain further.
She fell silent, and Shi Ning fell silent too.
The atmosphere became subtly awkward for a moment.
After a long time, Su Tianxue looked at Shi Ning. “Aren’t you going to ask me something?”
Shi Ning: “Ask you what?”
Su Tianxue was silent for a moment before saying, “For example… whether I like you, whether I have feelings for you.”
Su Tianxue’s words made Shi Ning want to laugh.
She curled her lips and looked at the cool woman before her.
Sometimes, when she saw Su Tianxue, she felt this person was like ice.
But after a while, she would feel that she was softer than ice. She didn’t have the gentleness of water. Yet she seemed able to observe everything with meticulous detail. She was more like the mist on a distant, dark green mountain, shrouding the deserted peaks, gathering at the unreachable summit. She stayed with the stars and the moon in the sky, never descending to the mortal world, not something easily obtained.
Seeing Shi Ning’s silence, Su Tianxue asked her, “Why aren’t you saying anything? Is my question strange?”
Shi Ning picked up her tea and took a sip. The light fragrance of rose tea slowly spread in her mouth.
Shi Ning said, “Su Tianxue, I have eyes, and I have a heart. I know how you treat me. I’m not a child who can’t distinguish feelings. I can see it, Su Tianxue. I’m special to you.”
After saying this with righteous confidence, Shi Ning saw Su Tianxue’s unmoved, even cold, expression. Her heart skipped a beat, and all her previous confidence vanished. She added cautiously, “At least a little bit special, right?”
It couldn’t be that all the moments she had felt while spending time with Su Tianxue these past few days were just her own wishful thinking, could it?
Under Shi Ning’s nervous yet expectant gaze, Su Tianxue nodded slightly. “You’re right. You are special to me.”
She admitted it frankly.
And those few simple words were enough to make Shi Ning’s heart bloom with joy. She felt as if her heart was instantly filled with brilliant sunlight, and the sunlight ignited every corner of the world within her, awakening all the budding flowers and causing them to open their petals.
Smugness and utter delight were now clearly written all over Shi Ning’s face, just short of being directly tattooed there.
Su Tianxue said calmly, “But—”
The moment those two words came out, Shi Ning felt the urge to stand up and back away.
Her blood ran cold.
“There’s a ‘but’ to this??”
That single, pivotal word of transition made Shi Ning feel afraid.
Su Tianxue chuckled at her expression. “What are you panicking about?”
Shi Ning was going crazy. “How can I not panic?”
The way Su Tianxue was speaking now was just like the rejection formula she used to use when people confessed to her back in the day.
You’re a good person, and you’re very special, but… we’re not a good match.
Shi Ning couldn’t help but wonder, was this karma coming back to bite her? Heaven spares no one, it seems.
But when will this cycle of retribution end? Could she just get a HE?
Under Shi Ning’s nervous and worried gaze, Su Tianxue lowered her head, holding her teacup with both hands, and watched the rosebud slowly unfurl in the cup. She seemed to see her own reflection in the tea.
Su Tianxue: “I’m happy when I’m with you. You’re the most special person who has ever appeared in my life.”
Shi Ning mocked herself, “Indeed. You’ve probably never met someone as unreasonable, wild, and shameless as me in your entire life.”
Su Tianxue took a sip of tea. The rose floated in the water.
Su Tianxue: “Shi Ning, you’re actually very gentle.”
“I don’t know if these feelings I have for you count as ‘like,’ but I know for sure that this feeling hasn’t reached the level of ‘love’ yet.”
“In all these years, I have no experience liking someone, let alone loving someone. So I can’t give you an answer.”
Shi Ning: “But I never intended to ask you for an answer.”
How could she not understand? A person like Su Tianxue needed time to figure things out on her own.
Sometimes, being too hasty, too eager for an answer, would only push the other person far away.
Matters of the heart couldn’t be rushed.
Shi Ning confessed to Su Tianxue, “Although I’ve been in many relationships, I’ve rarely felt this way about someone. So this is also an inexperienced, first-time thing for me. If I do something wrong, I hope you’ll tell me. If I accidentally cross your boundaries, I hope you’ll tell me that too.”
There was one more thing Shi Ning didn’t tell Su Tianxue.
She always held a fear of the word “love.”
She didn’t believe that love that never changes existed in this world.
She hadn’t even figured it out for herself yet, so how could she ask Su Tianxue to have it all figured out?
It was just that she was the type of person who lived one day at a time, so if she liked someone now, she wanted to tell them now.
And Su Tianxue was probably the type who needed to think everything through clearly.
Shi Ning couldn’t be sure either, if love were to appear between them, in what direction would their relationship change?
So taking it slow like this was actually quite good.
With the conversation at this point, the atmosphere once again veered toward awkwardness. The pink bubbles in the air were on the verge of popping, tinged with a bit of bashfulness.
Su Tianxue’s voice was clear as she made a suggestion to Shi Ning.
“Can we start by being friends first?”
Shi Ning started to laugh. “What’s this? So you didn’t even consider me a friend before?”
Su Tianxue cleared her throat. “It’s different.”
As if she had discovered something, Shi Ning pressed, “How is it different?”
She rarely saw Su Tianxue so flustered and awkward.
It was a little fun.
Su Tianxue said, “Do you remember how I did some studying on intimate relationships before coming on the show?”
Speaking of this, Shi Ning wanted to laugh.
She suppressed her laughter and nodded. “Mhm, mhm.”
Never having been in a relationship and relying on books to learn about love—Su Tianxue was truly the strangest, and also the cutest, person she knew.
“Based on what I’ve learned, I believe that good lovers always start as friends.”
Shi Ning let out a “wow.” “So you think we’ll become lovers, right?”
Su Tianxue’s face turned red. “Can you please not interrupt?”
Shi Ning raised her hand and made a zipping motion across her lips. “I can, absolutely.”
Su Tianxue took a long drink of tea to calm herself, then said to Shi Ning with the attitude of presenting a research report, “Let’s make an analogy. The love of friendship is like water. It exists between friends, unrestricted by time or space, and without a fervent desire for possession. Sometimes, its mere existence is enough to soothe our emotions.”
“And passionate love is like steam. It comes on fiercely, intensely, and quickly. It makes one’s heart race and go crazy, but it can also easily cause hurt and dissipates even more easily.”
“I don’t want that kind of steam.”
As Su Tianxue said this, Shi Ning saw a hint of determination in her eyes.
Shi Ning reached out from under the table, took Su Tianxue’s hand, and intertwined their fingers. “Although I don’t know which book you read that from, Su Tianxue, you can rest assured, my steam will never burn you.”
She had no experience in long-term relationships, let alone maintaining an intimate one.
For Shi Ning, it was simple: if you’re happy, if you’re having fun, you stay together. If you’re not happy, if you’re not having fun, then you break up.
But Su Tianxue probably couldn’t accept that kind of state.
So at this moment, Shi Ning also appeared more cautious than before.
Su Tianxue squeezed Shi Ning’s hand back. “So what I’m trying to say is, can we start as friends first, get to know each other better, understand each other more, and then…”
Shi Ning’s eyes lit up. “And then date, get married, have kids, kiss kiss kiss.”
Shi Ning: “Oh, we can’t have kids.”
The tips of Su Tianxue’s ears were a little red, but she still said calmly, “That’s not an impossible path of development.”
Shi Ning: “Could there be any other path of development?”
Su Tianxue said righteously, “Of course. If we’re not a good match, I think we can stop at the friend stage, right?”
Shi Ning really wanted to say that, given her current level of self-control around Su Tianxue, she felt that being just friends would be a bit difficult for her.
But then, she thought about the scenarios Su Tianxue had proposed.
If they really became lovers, were truly incompatible, had huge fights, accused and insulted each other, and then broke up completely.
And ended up going their separate ways from Su Tianxue.
Both of them scalded and scarred by the steam.
Shi Ning thought, she definitely couldn’t bear that.
She couldn’t bear to become strangers with her.
So Shi Ning nodded and said seriously, “Okay.”
Seeing Shi Ning agree to her proposal, Su Tianxue breathed a sigh of relief. Then she extended her hand to Shi Ning and said with a smile, “Hello, Shi Ning. It’s a pleasure to be friends with you.”
Shi Ning added, “Good friends. The best friends in the whole world.”
Su Tianxue was amused by this childish moment of hers.
Shi Ning shook Su Tianxue’s hand back. The moment their palms touched, another mischievous idea popped into her head. She was reluctant to let go of Su Tianxue’s hand. “Teacher Su, I have a question.”
Su Tianxue: “Hm?”
Shi Ning: “So, if we’re friends, can I still kiss you?”
Su Tianxue: “?”
Shi Ning explained righteously, “Didn’t the books on intimate relationships you read before tell you that for two people to become lovers, they need to be compatible not just mentally, but physically as well?”
“Aren’t we in the stage of exploring the possibility of becoming lovers? So, besides exploring our mental compatibility by being friends, shouldn’t we also give our bodies a chance?”
…Damn.
After saying that, Shi Ning wanted to give herself a thumbs-up.
How could she be so shameless with such a clear conscience?
Su Tianxue replied with a straight face, “But, aren’t our bodies very compatible?”
…………
Boom!
Fireworks exploded in Shi Ning’s mind.
Su Tianxue was still asking, “So you were faking it before?”
Su Tianxue added, “I thought you were very happy.”
Shi Ning: “…I was very happy.”
Su Tianxue: “That’s good.”
Shi Ning asked warily, “You weren’t faking it, were you?”
Su Tianxue: “…”
Su Tianxue really wanted to tell Shi Ning to check her conscience.
With everything she did before, could that have been faked?
Faced with Shi Ning’s direct gaze, Su Tianxue had no choice but to say, “I was happy too, okay?”
Shi Ning chuckled, pulled Su Tianxue’s wrist, and extended a fervent invitation. “Why don’t we have some fun right now?”
Just when Shi Ning thought her seduction was about to succeed, Su Tianxue said very calmly, “No, I have something serious to discuss with you.”
Su Tianxue’s words left Shi Ning completely stunned. She asked blankly, “Isn’t going to have fun right now a serious matter?”
Su Tianxue: “I want to talk to you about Mo Lingyuan.”
Shi Ning felt like tearing her hair out. Why did it always come back to Mo Lingyuan? Now, whenever Mo Lingyuan was mentioned, she would remember what Mo Lingyuan had said about wanting to steal her wife.
She felt that, based on the original owner’s understanding of Mo Lingyuan, that woman was not incapable of doing such a thing.
Shi Ning said helplessly, “What about Mo Lingyuan now?”
Su Tianxue: “Did you invite Mo Lingyuan here?”
Shi Ning quickly shook her head to distance herself. “Am I crazy? Invite her?”
An ex-girlfriend who wanted to steal her current one.
Was she an idiot?
Invite her?
Su Tianxue: “So, don’t you think her appearance here is a bit unusual?”
“Although life is made up of countless coincidences, a high frequency of coincidental events is more like a man-made inevitability.”
Watching Su Tianxue’s serious analysis, Shi Ning couldn’t help but go over, hug her, and give her a kiss.
Su Tianxue tilted her head to look at her, not understanding why she had suddenly done that.
Shi Ning: “You were so serious and sexy just now, I really wanted to kiss you.”
Seeing Su Tianxue’s brow furrow, Shi Ning quickly said, “This is a friendly kiss!!”
“It’s okay to kiss my good friend, right?”
Hearing this, Su Tianxue suddenly regretted the suggestion she had just made.
Shi Ning: “But you’re right. Her appearance is indeed not an accident.”
She beckoned to Su Tianxue with her finger. When Su Tianxue leaned her head over, Shi Ning whispered in her ear, telling her what she had learned from Ye Wanlan.
She then said to Su Tianxue, “There’s one more thing I need to confess to you.”
“Mo Lingyuan’s gland was injured because of me.”
This was also something Shi Ning had learned from the original owner’s sealed memories.
Back then, the “Shi Ning’s” campus fan club, seeing her getting too close to Mo Lingyuan, held a grudge against Mo Lingyuan. They eventually resorted to some illegal means, injuring Mo Lingyuan and causing problems with her gland.
Shi Ning said, “I have a responsibility in this matter, so—”
Su Tianxue: “So?”
Shi Ning straightened her back and said seriously, “So, because of this, I might still have contact with her.”
Su Tianxue: “Why are you telling me this?”
Shi Ning: “We’re friends, we should be open with each other. And I don’t want you to misunderstand. By the way, wife, I also don’t want you to have too much contact with her.”
Su Tianxue: “Is she not a good person?”
Shi Ning: “……I can’t exactly say that. Just don’t interact with her.”
Su Tianxue: “You sound like a childish elementary school girl who doesn’t want her best friend to play with others.”
Shi Ning: “Hmph!”
Meanwhile, Mo Lingyuan, the object of Shi Ning’s intense vigilance, was in her own room. She looked at the news Ye Wanlan had leaked online, read the comments with a blank expression, and then opened WeChat.
Her sister had sent a message.
【Xiao Yuan, do you still like Shi Ning?】
Mo Lingyuan saw it but didn’t reply.
She stared at her phone. Just when she thought the call would never come, her ringtone sounded.
Mo Lingyuan pressed the record button and answered the call.
“Hello, who is this?”
A woman’s voice came through the phone: “Hello, is this Miss Mo Lingyuan? I have a deal I’d like to discuss with you.”
