PANT - Chapter 48
Chapter 48
After the live broadcast ended that day, the uncle and aunt went viral on the internet, just as they had wished.
In an instant, countless trending topics were related to them.
They became a subject of discussion among netizens, even sparking a new topic: Just how terrible can your most terrible relatives be?
Some media outlets also jumped on the bandwagon to stir up hype, creating a new topic: Just how annoying can your terrible relatives be? Let’s count down the relatives who have driven you to the brink of collapse.
In short, thanks to the uncle and aunt’s spectacular, brain-dead performance, the production team found a new promotional channel. They cut a bloody path through the sea of ordinary promotions, using this negative example to attract a new audience and gain another wave of popularity.
At the same time, because of the so-called exposé the uncle and aunt released online, the National Marriage Supervisory Committee even issued an official statement on Weibo.
@NationalMarriageSupervisoryCommittee: We have recently received an unsubstantiated report. After investigation, we have determined that the marriage between a certain Shi and a certain Su is procedurally just and protected by law. We also ask the general public to focus more on their own lives and work together to build a beautiful society.
Enthusiastic Sea Otter: LMAO, is the official admin also watching the romance show and following the live broadcast?
This comment was shown to have been liked by the original poster.
Even more netizens complained: Even if the stuff that weirdo couple exposed is true, why do I find it even more exciting?
DidntEatYourRice: +11111
WantYouSingle: Haha! Doesn’t it give you the feeling of a prodigal playgirl falling for a cool and aloof beauty at first sight, then changing her ways for love and turning over a new leaf overnight???
WesternGhostFalls: GAGA, even TV dramas aren’t this good to ship.
HowIsItNot: This is love! This is true love! If it weren’t for love, why would Shi Ning be willing to go this far?!
PsyduckDoesntEatEggTarts: Right? Otherwise, what would Shi Ning gain from a sham marriage with Su Tianxue? It’s not a business alliance. Even if she married Su Tianxue just to help her secure her inheritance, wouldn’t that just be more fuel for the ship?
WillDefinitelyWakeUpEarlyTomorrow: Exactly! Besides, I have eyes, I can see for myself. I know whether this show is sweet or not, whether the feelings are real or not. Even if I don’t, the smile lines and crow’s feet I get from laughing at this show every day know better than I do.
The uncle and aunt never expected things to turn out this way.
They had been smug and delighted, thinking they held a massive bomb that would shake the heavens and move the gods.
But what was the result? The netizens’ reaction was completely different from what they had imagined, leaving them utterly stunned.
It was as if what they had thrown wasn’t a bomb, but a giant piece of candy.
And now, everyone was ecstatically devouring that candy.
After the show’s recording ended, the uncle and aunt not only gained nothing but also received a harsh scolding. They were extremely unwilling to accept this.
They wanted to find the person who had initially contacted them and ask them to figure something out, but to their surprise, they couldn’t even get through on the phone anymore.
Now, the uncle and aunt didn’t even dare to leave their house. All the neighbors had seen their cruel behavior on the show.
Only after the show did the couple realize that every single one of their actions, every move, every word, and every syllable they spoke on the program had been recorded.
It was equivalent to undergoing an all-encompassing, extremely socially-cringeworthy event in front of the entire nation.
They were shameless, but not so shameless that they could withstand the disgusted gazes of everyone.
What made them despair even more was yet to come.
Because of the mess they made, their son’s sure-thing marriage fell through. The Omega proposed to break off the engagement, and the Omega’s parents were resolute, unwilling to let their precious child marry into such a family.
Who would want to let the treasure they raised in the palm of their hand suffer in a family like that?
The uncle and aunt’s son was a Beta. He had finally managed to find an Omega wife. Although her genetic grade wasn’t great, she was still an Omega.
The couple had been showing off about this for a long time, but unexpectedly, it all turned into bubbles and popped.
When their son found out, he was furious. He came to argue with the old couple, saying that if he couldn’t get married, he would sever all family ties.
This argument was a disaster.
The fight triggered the aunt’s illness, and she nearly fainted on the spot.
She was sent to the hospital that very day and was told she needed to be admitted.
Faced with a suddenly diagnosed illness and high medical bills, the uncle, who was already in gambling debt, couldn’t afford it. The two of them put their heads together and contacted their son, hoping he would cover the costs.
But it was truly a case of what goes around, comes around. Heaven spares no one.
Dragons beget dragons, phoenixes beget phoenixes, and the son of a mouse knows how to dig holes.
The son born of an ungrateful wolf was just another ungrateful wolf.
To avoid paying the fees, the son didn’t answer his phone, blocked them on WeChat, and even moved, completely vanishing from the face of the earth.
He had thoroughly inherited the heartless tradition of his parents.
The family was constantly at each other’s throats over this matter, arguing endlessly. Their home knew no peace.
It could be considered retribution.
After the live broadcast ended that day, Mo Lingyuan left the island early.
Her appearance and departure caused a great deal of discussion online. Of course, the most talked-about topic was in that small chat group of socialite Omegas. Everyone was gossiping and speculating.
【Peerless Beauty O, Paging Online】
Yuan Yuyue: Family, I don’t think I understand this whole play.
Dongling Mountain’s Lin Zhiling: Did Mo Lingyuan lose?
Dongling Mountain’s Lin Zhiling: No, it doesn’t seem like they even fought.
Yuan Yuyue: Is everyone ready to pay up? /covering face
Dongling Mountain’s Lin Zhiling: What money?
Yuan Yuyue: Gaga, the bet we made before about whether Shi Ning counts as a reformed playgirl~
Dongling Mountain’s Lin Zhiling: Ahem, I was in a car accident a few days ago, I think I have amnesia.
Driver on Akina Road: Ahem, I did it too many times the other day, got completely drained, and have amnesia too.
Yuan Yuyue: ?????????
Yuan Yuyue: A car accident, fine, but Car Jiejie, what kind of lame excuse is that!!
Savages Can Be Beauties Too: Everyone, don’t panic! Maybe it’s all an act?? Maybe there’s still a chance to turn the tables!!!
Little Cat Doesn’t Eat Fish: SRDS, Mo Lingyuan has already lost. How can she possibly turn things around?
Yuan Yuyue: But honestly, the ex-relationship between Mo Jiejie and Shi Ning is pretty amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it.
Driver on Akina Road: Little sister hasn’t seen much~~~
Little Cat Doesn’t Eat Fish: Forget little sister, even I haven’t seen anything like it.
Driver on Akina Road: Anyway, they just dated when they were young. Now they’re not into each other. It’s okay for them to interact normally, right?
Yuan Yuyue: Mmm-hmm.
Yuan Yuyue: Don’t forget my money, everyone /sparkly eyes
Little Cat Doesn’t Eat Fish: Let’s wait until the show is over!! Maybe they’ll break up the day it ends!!
Yuan Yuyue: Nooo!!!
Dongling Mountain’s Lin Zhiling: So is the show almost done filming? Can I say I haven’t had enough?
Little Cat Doesn’t Eat Fish: I saw the live broadcast schedule~ There are only a few days left until the end!
Driver on Akina Road: I really want to know what Mo Lingyuan is doing after leaving the show. Let me use my intelligence network to find out.
.............
The subject of their discussion, Mo Lingyuan, had important business to attend to today.
The first thing she did after leaving the island was contact W.
Mo Lingyuan: How was it?
W: Your pawn doesn’t seem very bright.
Mo Lingyuan: I told you from the beginning, only what I have is truly useful. You didn’t believe me, so I had no choice but to find someone to prove my capabilities first.
W: How did you know about the hospital matter?
Mo Lingyuan: Shi Ning and I were childhood friends. I can easily find out these things from her family. It’s nothing surprising.
Mo Lingyuan: Since you don’t want to cooperate, then forget it.
W: Wait.
Seeing those two words, Mo Lingyuan’s lips curled into a satisfied smile.
The Mo family’s driver, who had come to pick her up, saw this and couldn’t help but ask, “Miss, what’s made you so happy?”
Mo Lingyuan: “Uncle He, I’m about to hook a fish.”
The driver: “Huh? Can you fish with a phone now?”
Mo Lingyuan chuckled lightly. “Of course. There are fishing mini-games all over the internet now.”
The driver looked at Mo Lingyuan’s expression, then smiled after a moment. “Miss, I’m old. Don’t try to fool me.”
Mo Lingyuan smiled and shook her head, looking down at her phone.
A new message had arrived from W.
She smiled, then contacted Ye Wanlan.
Mo Lingyuan: The fish is hooked.
Ye Wanlan: Confirm the time and contact me whenever.
Mo Lingyuan: OK.
Ye Wanlan: Are you going back to the Mo residence today?
Mo Lingyuan: No. Some people don’t want to see me, and I don’t want to see them either.
Ye Wanlan: Stay safe.
Mo Lingyuan: Don’t worry, Ye Jiejie.
Ye Wanlan: If there’s anything, we can talk at your sister’s wedding tomorrow.
The wedding...
She had almost forgotten.
Mo Lingyuan turned off her phone screen and looked out the window.
For a moment, the scenery felt somewhat unfamiliar.
Seeing the pedestrians on the street and the characters on the signs of the small shops, she was once again reminded that this place, her homeland, was a place she hadn’t set foot in for ten years.
The car radio was broadcasting: “Today, a heavy rain warning has been issued for the city. All citizens, please be prepared.”
The driver grumbled, “Raining every day, raining every day. Is this ever going to stop?”
Mo Lingyuan: “This place is like that.”
The driver took Mo Lingyuan back to her old house.
This was one of the several properties her father had left her before he died. Mo Lingyuan liked this one the most, so she hadn’t rented it out and had someone maintain it all this time.
Mo Lingyuan said goodbye to the driver, went upstairs, took out her phone, looked at the passcode her sister had sent her, and unlocked the door.
The room was pitch black, the empty space exuding an endless loneliness in the darkness.
Mo Lingyuan lowered her eyes, kicked off her high heels, and reached out to feel for the light switch on the wall.
With a click, the lights came on.
An unexpected person sat up from the sofa, yawning.
The woman wasn’t stunningly beautiful, at least not as beautiful as Mo Lingyuan.
She had the kind of face that grows on you—very gentle, with a smile that made people unconsciously want to rely on her.
The woman hugged a cushion and looked at her. “Lingyuan, you’re back.”
Mo Lingyuan felt as if her pressure points had been struck, freezing her to the spot. “You- you, what are you doing here?”
The woman chuckled. “You just got back, the house needs to be tidied up. I was worried you wouldn’t be used to it, so I came over to check on everything. Besides, it’s been raining a lot lately. I was afraid you wouldn’t be able to sleep alone during a thunderstorm. You haven’t eaten, have you?”
As she spoke, the woman got up and walked familiarly to the dining room. “I made sandwiches, I don’t know if they’re to your taste. I figured you probably don’t eat much Chinese food while you’re abroad, and I was worried you wouldn’t be used to it if you suddenly came back to it.”
Mo Lingyuan listened to the woman’s rambling, looked at the slippers in front of her, then at the woman’s own pair of matching but different-colored slippers.
They looked like a couple’s set.
Mo Lingyuan clenched her fists. “Can you not be like this?”
The woman was taken aback. “Lingyuan?”
Mo Lingyuan: “Ms. Mo, you’re getting married tomorrow. Please go home and prepare for your wedding.”
Mo Qi: “Everything’s already prepared, you don’t need to worry.”
Mo Lingyuan: “...I’m not worried.”
Mo Qi: “Then what’s wrong?”
Mo Lingyuan lowered her head, hiding her reddened eyes.
Mo Lingyuan: “Could you please leave? The sight of you makes me sick.”
Mo Qi froze for a moment. “Do you still hate me this much?”
Mo Lingyuan gritted her teeth. “Yes, I hate your guts. The daughter of a homewrecker, why should I accept you?”
Mo Qi lowered her eyes, put down the sandwich in her hand, and walked back to the sofa to pick up her bag. “Remember to eat dinner. Close the windows before you sleep, it might rain. See you tomorrow.”
The moment Mo Qi closed the door and left, Mo Lingyuan collapsed onto the floor.
All her efforts, all her attempts to forget, had completely crumbled the instant she saw that woman.
A while later, outside, the sound of a torrential downpour echoed, accompanied by lightning and thunder.
Mo Lingyuan watched as the windows were pelted with rain. Unable to hold back, she fumbled for an umbrella, pulled open the door, and rushed downstairs in her slippers.
At the entrance of the apartment building, Mo Qi stood under a streetlight, holding her bag and an umbrella.
Seeing her appear, the woman revealed a smile.
Mo Qi: “Lingyuan.”
Mo Lingyuan’s expression turned cold, and she immediately turned to go back.
Mo Qi chased after her, grabbing Mo Lingyuan’s hand. “You clearly don’t hate me, why do you have to lie?”
Mo Lingyuan: “Pah, you’re so damn narcissistic.”
Mo Qi: “Weren’t you worried I’d get wet and came to bring me an umbrella?”
Mo Lingyuan: “I was bringing it for a dog, alright?!”
Mo Qi smiled bitterly. “Lingyuan, I’m getting married tomorrow. I was thinking, I was hoping that at least for tomorrow, you could call me ‘Jiejie’ once.”
Those words stabbed into Mo Lingyuan’s heart like a knife.
Her tears fell to the ground. She forcefully shook off Mo Qi’s hand and threw the umbrella at her. “Get lost!”
The tip of the umbrella grazed Mo Qi’s cheek.
She bent down, picked up the umbrella, and watched Mo Lingyuan’s fleeing back without saying a word.
She couldn’t understand.
When they first met, the pink and tender, dumpling-like Mo Lingyuan would call her Qiqi Jiejie. They had a great relationship, one that went beyond just tutor and student.
Mo Lingyuan would even say with emotion, “Qiqi Jiejie, if only you were really my older sister.”
But later...
Her mother married into the Mo family, and she changed her name. Only then did she realize her mother had intentionally sent her to the Mo family to be a tutor.
Many years before Mo Lingyuan was even born, Mo Lingyuan’s father and her mother had given birth to her.
She had thought... thought that after Mo Lingyuan got over the initial shock, she would still call her ‘Jiejie’.
But so many years had passed.
Mo Qi opened the umbrella and walked into the rain. The blood from her wound dripped onto the ground, mixing with the dirty mud and disappearing without a trace.
After the live broadcast on the island ended, the group moved on to the final stop. The director announced, “Thank you all for your companionship along the way. Our show is now nearing its end.”
Hearing this, Zhou Lu clenched her fists in delight, just short of shouting “yes!”
The director: “What’s wrong? Eager to get off work?”
Zhou Lu: “A little.”
Everyone burst into laughter.
The director: “Regarding the final three days of the live broadcast, does anyone have any ideas?”
Xin Ya raised her hand high. “Me, me, me! I want to go mountain climbing!”
Zhou Lu: “No ambition.”
Zhu Yu: “Actually, just lying at home is the best.”
Su Wanxing: “I want to see nature!!! I want to go to the countryside!!!”
The director: “Bingo! Congratulations to our little sister Wanxing for getting it right!!”
Su Wanxing’s eyes lit up. “Where are we going, where?!!”
The director: “This time, we will be traveling together to a country near the Arctic to embark on a final romantic journey.”
After the director finished speaking, she had expected everyone to celebrate wildly, but to her surprise, even Su Wanxing, who had been the most excited, now had a change of expression.
The director: “...What’s wrong? Not happy about it?”
Su Wanxing: “It’s not that I’m not happy, it’s just that the Arctic is too cold.”
Zhu Yu: “Yeah, it’s almost winter now.”
Xin Ya also lamented, “How about we go somewhere else?”
The director: “Can’t change it!! We’re going there!!”
Su Wanxing: “But what about our winter clothes?”
The director: “Don’t worry, we have a down jacket sponsor.”
Su Wanxing: ???
The director mentioned a brand. Zhu Yu thought for a moment and looked at Shi Ning.
Shi Ning: “Why are you looking at me?”
Zhu Yu: “Isn’t this clothing brand under your family’s company?”
Shi Ning: “I think so.”
Zhu Yu: “?”
Shi Ning scratched her head. “Sorry, the family business is too big, I can’t remember everything clearly.”
The production team also announced the itinerary online.
【Hey, how did they suddenly get such a big budget?】
【The most luxurious romance variety show in history!】
【Help, I want to go too. Is it too late to find a girlfriend and sign up now?】
【Weird, this newly announced sponsor daddy looks so familiar.】
【Of course it’s familiar, it belongs to CEO Shi’s family.】
【Has anyone dug into the relationship between this production company and Shi Ning? I feel like it’s a bit... subtle.】
Some netizens were just idly mentioning it, but who knew that some bored gossip enthusiasts would actually go and dig. After digging, they were shocked.
【OMG sisters, I found something! This variety show seems to be invested in by an entertainment company under the Shi family!!】
【How come no one discovered this before? This is huge!!】
【Say no more, I also found out that all these sponsors belong to the Shi family!!】
【No wonder the production team always seemed a little timid around Shi Ning~~! Turns out she’s the boss!!】
【So after all this time! This is a case of producing and selling in-house. She’s spending her own money to take her wife on the show for a publicly funded trip to date and get married?】
【You call this a publicly funded trip to fall in love? This should be called a publicly funded honeymoon!】
【Damn it, is this what capitalism is?!】
【Damn it, this is the charm of money!!】
【Shipping it again, shipping it again. I remember hearing that all the original guests for this show dropped out, right? I think maybe CEO Shi brought her wife on the show because of that.】
【No wonder, there’s even some backdoor stuff going on. Su Wanxing was brought along too, right?】
【What’s wrong with taking care of your own sister-in-law?】
【Has anyone calculated just how much money CEO Shi spent to pull this off?】
While a group of netizens was discussing how much money and effort Shi Ning had spent to be with her wife, Su Wanxing was pulling Su Tianxue and Shi Ning aside for a talk.
Seeing Su Wanxing’s serious expression, as if she was about to settle some accounts, Shi Ning cleared her throat, turned to Su Tianxue, and nudged her arm, whispering, “What’s wrong with her?”
Su Tianxue also shook her head blankly.
Seeing their casual attitude, Su Wanxing took out a small whistle she had gotten from the director and blew it.
She looked just like a newly appointed gym teacher.
Su Tianxue and Shi Ning both looked at Su Wanxing.
Su Wanxing: “Don’t you two have anything to say to me?”
Su Tianxue shook her head.
Seeing that her wife had nothing to say, Shi Ning stated, “No. If my wife has nothing to say, then neither do I.”
Su Wanxing was so angry she wanted to reach out and pinch someone’s cheeks.
She looked at them anxiously and directly stated what was on her mind. “Why didn’t you tell me you two got married?”
After saying this, Su Wanxing actually felt a little wronged.
After all, in her eyes, she was the person closest to her sister, yet now she didn’t even know about such a major life event for her sister.
She had learned about it from someone else in the form of an exposé.
This was truly a bit hard for Su Wanxing to take.
Faced with Su Wanxing’s question, Shi Ning rubbed her nose, her eyes darting around, her voice tinged with uncertainty. “Actually, it’s not that we didn’t tell you. It’s mainly that... we couldn’t tell you.”
Su Wanxing’s eyes widened. “How could you not? Couldn’t you have just told me before you got married?”
Shi Ning said righteously, “A second before we got married, I didn’t think we were going to get married either!”
Su Wanxing: ?
There was such a way to get married?
Su Tianxue sighed softly and explained, “Wanxing, I didn’t mean to hide it from you, but my marriage to Shi Ning was really a stopgap measure. You heard what the uncle and aunt said... Under those circumstances, I had to find someone to marry immediately.”
The mention of this matter was a sore spot for Su Wanxing. She looked at her sister and said, “Jiejie, why didn’t you tell me about these things?”
Su Tianxue froze.
Su Wanxing: “Jiejie, we’re sisters. I’m a part of this family. When something this big happens, I want to help, I want to contribute. Even if- even if I can’t do anything, I want to help you share the burden. I don’t want you to carry so much on your own. At least sometimes, I can be your trash can and listen to you vent. If you’re stressed, I can help you too.”
Faced with Su Wanxing’s outpouring, Su Tianxue said softly, “I did it to protect you. Besides, you were very busy during that time, and I didn’t want to disturb you. Also...”
Before she could finish, Su Wanxing interrupted her.
Su Wanxing was emotional, tears welling up again. Her eyes were as red as a little rabbit’s. “Grandma getting into trouble, something so huge, how could that be considered disturbing me? Our family home was about to be taken away, how could that be considered disturbing me? Jiejie! I’ve grown up already. I’m not that little kid who always needs to be protected behind you. Sometimes I want to bear some things for you too! You can’t keep doing this, hiding everything from me!”
Faced with Su Wanxing’s accusation, Su Tianxue was at a loss. She subconsciously looked at Shi Ning, but Shi Ning didn’t know what to say either.
This was their family matter; it wasn’t her place to interfere.
Wait a minute...
Shi Ning had a second thought. No, this was her wife’s family matter, which meant it was her family matter from now on. So, she cleared her throat and spoke.
“Wanxing, maybe your sister didn’t realize this before, but now that you’ve told her, I believe she’ll slowly pay attention to it and change her perspective and approach, right? We all know your sister isn’t the type to be controlling, nor would she deliberately hide things from you. It’s just that for her, she might be used to doing things this way.”
Listening to Shi Ning’s words, Su Wanxing sniffled.
Su Tianxue handed her a tissue.
Su Wanxing took it, pinching the edge of the paper.
Su Tianxue lowered her eyes.
Shi Ning continued, “For you, the transition from a child to an adult might be very natural, something that happens on its own. But perhaps for the person who has been taking care of you and protecting you for so long, it’s hard for them to change their perspective all at once. So if you want to change something or if you have new needs, you can actually tell your sister, just like you did today.”
With Shi Ning smoothing things over, the tension between the sisters eased considerably. After listening to Shi Ning’s gentle explanation, Su Wanxing nodded and blew her nose hard into the tissue.
The tissue nearly took flight!
Su Tianxue let out a small sigh of relief and looked at Su Wanxing, asking her, “Want some candy?”
She took a piece of candy from her pocket.
Su Wanxing hesitated for a moment before accepting it.
As Su Tianxue handed her the candy, she said softly, “Sorry, Jiejie will be more mindful next time.”
Hearing Su Tianxue apologize to her, Su Wanxing felt even worse.
Her intention wasn’t to make her sister admit she was wrong, much less to make her say she was sorry. She just wanted her sister to know that she had grown up too and could carry some of the burden for her.
Now, in this world, it was just the two of them, relying on each other. She didn’t want her sister to always be so burdened.
Her eyes welled up. She silently unwrapped the candy, holding the sweet, grape-flavored hard candy in her mouth, and told Su Tianxue, “That’s not it, Jiejie.”
Su Wanxing lowered her head, crumpling the candy wrapper into a ball. “I- I’ll grow up faster too.”
She thought that perhaps it was because she wasn’t strong enough yet. She needed to quickly find a way to grow up faster.
Seeing that the two sisters had resolved their issue, Shi Ning started her act again.
She looked at the candy in Su Tianxue’s hand and asked, “Where did you get that?”
Su Tianxue: “An employee gave it to me when we were leaving the bridal shop.”
Shi Ning: “How come they didn’t give me any! Is this discrimination!”
Su Tianxue: “...?”
Shi Ning emphasized, “I didn’t get any.”
Su Tianxue: “Mm, maybe they forgot.”
Shi Ning: “Oh.”
Su Tianxue treated it as a simple question, but who knew that a moment later, Shi Ning would ask again, “Is the candy good?”
Su Wanxing, with the grape-flavored candy in her mouth, could feel a sourness wafting through the air. She snickered silently, not saying a word, just watching the interaction between her sister and Shi Ning.
Faced with Shi Ning’s question, Su Tianxue replied rationally, “I haven’t eaten it yet, so I can’t judge.”
Shi Ning felt like a thousand chickens were screaming in her head.
Was this what a straight woman was like? Did she completely not understand her hints?
Su Tianxue even added, “Wanxing is eating candy, you can ask her.”
Su Wanxing really couldn’t watch anymore. She was starting to feel a little sorry for Shi Ning, so she spoke up on her behalf. “Jie, what she means is for you to give her a piece of candy.”
Only after hearing Su Wanxing’s words did Su Tianxue realize. She tilted her head and asked, “Is that what you meant?”
Shi Ning felt she had lost face in front of Su Wanxing. She huffed and said, “No! I don’t want any!”
She got up and walked to the ship’s deck to get some air.
Seeing Su Tianxue still sitting there, Su Wanxing nudged her sister’s knee. “Jie! You’re way too dense!! What are you waiting for! Go after her!”
Su Tianxue cleared her throat, then looked at Wanxing and instructed, “Then you stay here and be good.”
Su Wanxing muttered, “I’m not a kid anymore. I’ll be fine on the ship, I’m not going to get lost. I’m not going to jump into the sea. You should hurry up and chase after your wife. Maybe she’ll jump into the sea because you made her so mad.”
Su Tianxue was a little surprised to hear Su Wanxing call Shi Ning that.
She nodded and got up to leave.
Su Wanxing sat there, sucking on her candy, thinking.
Ever since she accepted the fact that Shi Ning and Su Tianxue were officially married, and after seeing Shi Ning’s actions during this period, Su Wanxing suddenly realized that Shi Ning’s feelings for her sister might be genuine.
No!
The word “might” couldn’t even be used to describe it.
Based on her understanding of Shi Ning and her knowledge of Shi Ning from her future memories, she knew that many of Shi Ning’s actions represented that her heart had been moved.
Su Wanxing’s feelings were actually quite complicated.
On one hand, she felt that for a simple person like her sister, a prodigal playgirl like Shi Ning might not be a good choice.
But then she had another thought. She hoped her sister would treat her as an adult, and likewise, her sister was already an adult who knew what she was doing and could be responsible for her own actions.
Besides...
Seeing how the two of them interacted today, Su Wanxing felt that her sister didn’t seem to be at a disadvantage.
Instead, she was a little worried about Shi Ning.
However... there was one thing Su Wanxing was particularly curious about.
How on earth did her sister and Shi Ning meet?
Su Wanxing felt she had to find a chance to ask about this next time. She had actually forgotten today!
Meanwhile, Su Tianxue walked out onto the deck and saw Shi Ning.
Shi Ning was standing by the railing, the wind lifting her long hair and the hem of her dress.
The deck was empty, with only the sea before Shi Ning.
When the sound of footsteps approached, Shi Ning turned around and saw Su Tianxue.
Shi Ning: “Why are you here?”
Su Tianxue opened her palm, revealing the candy inside. “Didn’t you want some candy?”
Shi Ning: “Who wanted it? I don’t.”
Su Tianxue: “Really not having any?”
Shi Ning said awkwardly, “Candy is for kids. Besides, some candies you only want at that particular moment. After that moment passes, you might not want it as much.”
Shi Ning thought Su Tianxue would coax her after she said that, but what awaited her was silence.
She could only hear the sound of the ship moving across the sea, the sound of the waves.
Su Tianxue didn’t say another word.
Shi Ning was puzzled.
She couldn’t figure out what this woman was trying to do.
The next moment, the rustling sound of a candy wrapper being peeled came from beside her. She looked at Su Tianxue. Su Tianxue was holding an orange, tangerine-flavored candy. Then, gently, right in front of Shi Ning, she parted her lips slightly, placed the candy in her mouth, and used her fingertip to push it between her lips.
Her pink tongue was faintly visible.
Seeing this, Shi Ning’s eyes darkened.
She leaned against the railing and asked that question again, “Is the candy good?”
Su Tianxue stepped forward, standing in front of Shi Ning.
In their current position, Shi Ning’s back was against the railing, and Su Tianxue had her trapped between the railing and herself.
Su Tianxue beckoned to Shi Ning with her finger.
Shi Ning lowered her head.
Su Tianxue wrapped both her arms around Shi Ning’s neck and pressed her lips against Shi Ning’s.
The candy was right at the tip of their lips.
That one small, orange candy, the color of the sunset, was pushed back and forth between their mouths, as if swimming between two pools.
The taste of sweet orange filled the entire world. At this moment, even the sea turned orange.
When the kiss ended, the candy was already in Shi Ning’s mouth.
Su Tianxue licked her lips, wiping away a tiny bit of orange-flavored saliva from the corner of her mouth.
A silvery sheen of moisture glistened on both their lips.
It was surprisingly similar to the sparkling surface of the sea beside them under the sun.
Su Tianxue asked, breathing slightly, “So, do you think this candy is good?”
Shi Ning held the candy in her mouth, pushing it against her cheek with her tongue. She reached out and pulled Su Tianxue, who had just taken a step back, back into her embrace.
Shi Ning: “Wife, were you just flirting with me?”
Su Tianxue hummed in agreement.
Su Tianxue: “Do you sometimes think I’m too dense?”
Shi Ning: “I like you no matter how you are. And, this candy today is the sweetest candy I’ve ever eaten.”
Su Tianxue stepped out of Shi Ning’s embrace and stood beside her, the two of them gazing into the distance together.
Su Tianxue’s question came on the wind again.
She said, “Did you decide on the itinerary for the rest of the trip?”
Shi Ning: “Not really. They provided a lot of options, I was just the one who made the choice.”
Su Tianxue was a frugal person. She asked, “Is it expensive?”
Shi Ning smiled and said, “Don’t worry, the wife fund is still intact.”
Su Tianxue shot Shi Ning a glare.
Shi Ning: “The sun is setting.”
Su Tianxue turned her head at the sound and looked out at the sea.
Just like the candy still rolling around in Shi Ning’s mouth, the sun had turned orange, bringing with it a myriad of reds that painted the sky before their eyes.
The clouds were a dancing red.
The color of the sea became dreamlike, following this dance.
In the distance, a dolphin leaped out of the water, and seagulls cried as they circled overhead.
Shi Ning reached out and her fingertip touched Su Tianxue’s.
Su Tianxue silently clasped her hand in return, their fingers intertwining.
Shi Ning lowered her head and smiled.
Su Tianxue noticed this and asked her, “What are you smiling about?”
Shi Ning: “I’m happy.”
Su Tianxue tilted her head in confusion, her eyes seeming to ask, what’s there to be so happy about?
Shi Ning: “Just being able to be like this, watching the sunset with you, holding your hand, makes me happy.”
Su Tianxue hummed in acknowledgment, her cool voice carried on the wind. She said, “Then you’ll have many more moments to be happy about in the future.”
Shi Ning made a soft sound, then lifted Su Tianxue’s hand and kissed it.
Su Wanxing and Zhu Yu had also wanted to come up to watch the sunset, and they had even invited Xin Ya and Zhou Lu. But when they saw the two figures, everyone quietly held their tongues.
Zhu Yu raised her film camera and took a picture of their backs.
Shi Ning’s red hair seemed to be on the verge of merging with the sunset.
Su Tianxue appeared elegant and refined, more like the calm sea.
Both the people and the scenery exuded a subtle romance.
Xin Ya whispered secretly to Zhou Lu, “Their acting is too good. To be able to pretend to be a couple to this extent, we’re like a sow giving birth while the piglets just stare blankly. We can’t compare.”
Zhou Lu glanced at their tightly clasped hands, then looked at Xin Ya as if she were an idiot, and said nothing.
Xin Ya was confused. “What’s wrong?”
Zhou Lu explained patiently, “Have you ever considered that they might be different from us?”
Xin Ya pondered for a long time, then had a sudden realization. “I get it!!”
Zhou Lu: “Hmm?”
Xin Ya: “This kind of performance must come with a different price tag!”
