DDT - Chapter 6
Chapter 6: Zombie King × Little White Flower (5)
The atmosphere froze once again.
"Ah, you do look a little familiar," Yi Shuhan replied awkwardly. Setting other factors aside, she began to seriously study the woman's face up close: delicate features, a high-bridged nose, smooth, flawless skin, and slightly pale lips. She was the very picture of fair-skinned beauty. Yi Shuhan felt that the woman before her was even more beautiful than she was.
An odd flutter stirred in Yi Shuhan's heart. She didn't dwell on it or search for the source of this feeling, but she suddenly felt that, now that it was mentioned, this young woman did indeed look familiar.
"My name is Yi Shuhan. Thank you so much for saving me. How should I address you?" Yi Shuhan asked, her eyes sparkling with a lively light as she looked into Chi Junluo's. She still didn't know the name of the young woman who had rescued her from those clutches.
"I'm Chi Junluo." Having learned the heroine's name, Chi Junluo promptly gave her own. Yi Shuhan, she thought, what an artistic name.
"Chi Junluo? Can I call you Sister Chi?" Yi Shuhan seriously compared the two of them and found that Chi Junluo had a more mature air—even her chest was a size bigger than her own. So, calling her 'sister' had to be correct! Yup!
Chi Junluo, who hadn't expected Yi Shuhan to judge age by chest size: …Do I look that old?
Chi Junluo nodded, not rejecting the form of address, but she couldn't help but wonder if she was taking advantage of the heroine.
"Let me take you down." Chi Junluo concluded their conversation, took Yi Shuhan's left hand, and led her to the shattered floor-to-ceiling window. "Do you dare to jump?" she asked, eager to show off a little for the heroine.
"You'll catch me." Yi Shuhan stared steadily into Chi Junluo's beautiful blue eyes. What should have been a question came out as a statement. For some reason, from the bottom of her heart, Yi Shuhan felt an inexplicable sense of trust in the tall woman before her.
She will catch me, Yi Shuhan affirmed to herself. She could almost feel that this person had come to her with a strange sense of mission. Otherwise, why not appear sooner, or later? Why her, of all people?
Chi Junluo winked at Yi Shuhan, her eyes full of encouragement.
Heavenly Dao: ??? What the hell kind of encouragement is that? Don't you go and get This Deity's heroine killed!
Heavenly Dao: This Deity is calling you Chi Chi, you'd better listen! Stop your reckless showboating!
Chi Junluo ignored the Heavenly Dao freaking out in her sea of consciousness and encouraged Yi Shuhan to leap from the window.
Heavenly Dao: Aaaahhh!!!
Yi Shuhan first felt a moment of weightlessness as she fell, and her heart leaped into her throat. Before she could even scream in terror, a cotton-like sensation enveloped her. Her descent slowed dramatically, and she felt herself land safely on the ground, as light as a feather.
Incredible! Yi Shuhan looked up, her eyes sparkling as she gazed at Chi Junluo, who had yet to come down from the top floor.
"What are you doing here?" A cold, familiar voice suddenly came from behind Yi Shuhan.
Yi Shuhan frowned, her expression turning cold. She turned around and looked indifferently at the beast in human clothing before her. That's right, the newcomer was none other than the disgusting Zhuang Cun.
"I'm talking to you. How did you sneak down here?" A vicious light surged in Zhuang Cun's eyes. "Who gave you permission to run? Did you think you could escape my grasp? Yi Shuhan, let me tell you, for the rest of your life, you're nothing but a plaything for our boss and the rest of us! Don't even think about escaping!" With that, Zhuang Cun moved to grab the "stray" little lamb he saw before him.
Suddenly, a cold gust of wind brushed past his cheek. Before he could react, he felt a sharp pain in his abdomen, as if he'd been punched with immense force. His entire body flew backward several meters.
Zhuang Cun clutched his stomach and fell to the ground, groaning in pain.
Beads of cold sweat broke out on his forehead. His lips trembled, unable to form a single word, and his head rang as if deprived of oxygen from the sheer agony.
His vision blurred. Still dazed and confused, Zhuang Cun saw a figure slowly floating down from the sky.
Chi Junluo had witnessed the entire exchange from mid-air, her excellent hearing catching their conversation. Smart as she was, she quickly understood what was happening. This heroine really had a knack for attracting trouble. She'd only been away from her for a few seconds, and she was already in danger again.
She really didn't know how Yi Shuhan had managed to survive so resiliently for a year in this apocalypse.
Chi Junluo had taught a lesson to that arrogant, foul-mouthed dog of a man. Then, enveloping herself in mental power, she leisurely floated down.
"Shuhan, are you alright?" Chi Junluo asked with concern as soon as she landed, not sparing a single glance for the scumbag lying on the ground nearby with blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
"Sister Chi, I'm fine. Thank you." Saved by Chi Junluo yet again, Yi Shuhan was a little angry at her own powerlessness. She was always unable to protect herself when trouble arose. It would be one thing if she alone got hurt, but it would be terrible if she ended up dragging the innocent Sister Chi into it.
Yi Shuhan felt a pang of guilt.
Looking at the somewhat aggrieved heroine before her, Chi Junluo, on some strange impulse, reached out and gently ruffled Yi Shuhan's hair. "What's there to thank me for? It's what I should do."
Although she didn't understand what "it's what I should do" meant, it didn't stop Yi Shuhan from seeing Chi Junluo as the kindest person in the world.
Only now, with the heroine safe and sound, did the Heavenly Dao in Chi Junluo's sea of consciousness calm down, though its heart still pounded with lingering fear. The Heavenly Dao was very displeased with Chi Junluo's disobedience and secretly made a black mark against her name.
Unaware that she had just been issued a "good person card," Chi Junluo slowly led Yi Shuhan by the hand over to Zhuang Cun, taking the opportunity to secretly collect the Power of the Heavenly Dao.
Feeling the warmth from Chi Junluo's hand, Yi Shuhan blushed shyly.
"What are you to Shuhan?" Chi Junluo kicked Zhuang Cun's knee and questioned him coldly.
Zhuang Cun clutched his knee in pain, glared viciously at Chi Junluo, and snorted coldly without saying a word.
"Not talking, are you? I can't be bothered to listen anyway," Chi Junluo said, her face a mask of indifference. "If you have the nerve to commit the crime, you should be prepared for the consequences. It's just your bad luck that you ran into me. Today, I'm going to teach you the meaning of regret!" With that, she didn't move a muscle, but simply directed her mental power to surge toward Zhuang Cun.
Zhuang Cun hadn't even recovered from the pain in his abdomen and knee when he felt something grab him by the neck, lift him off the ground, and slam him violently against a nearby wall.
Faint cracks appeared on the wall. Zhuang Cun felt as if his internal organs had been shattered. A metallic, sweet taste of blood rose in his throat, and with a cry, he spat out a large mouthful of blood.
Chi Junluo pulled Yi Shuhan and turned to leave. Once Yi Shuhan's back was turned, a translucent bolt of mental power, just like the one upstairs, struck viciously at the scumbag's groin. A spray of blood erupted. Zhuang Cun's eyes widened in disbelief. The pain was truly heart-wrenching. He wanted to scream, but he had been beaten so badly he no longer had the strength to make a sound. He could only hang his mouth open, let out a few weak gasps, and then pass out completely.
Chi Junluo didn't just leave the two scumbags behind to their fate. Originally, she had wanted to end their lives with her own hands, just like those people in that dark room in the dead of night, but she didn't want to dirty her hands. Using her mental power, she moved The Boss from upstairs and piled the two scumbags together. Then, she issued a unique command with her mental power, and all the zombies in the eastern part of the city began to stir.
With a casual thought, she destroyed the scumbags' abilities.
She wanted them to live for now, only to die in agony in the mouths of zombies!
Thinking about it now, she had let those other scumbags off too easily.
A smirk played on Chi Junluo's lips, which happened to be seen by Yi Shuhan, who was sneaking a glance at her.
Yi Shuhan: Ah! Sister Chi's cold smile is so handsome! What do I do?
Chi Junluo would never have guessed that this world's heroine was actually a bit of a fangirl.
"Shuhan, where are you headed next?" Chi Junluo asked, turning her head slightly.
"I was originally heading to B City. My father is there," Yi Shuhan said, her head lowered and her spirits a little down. "This apocalypse came so suddenly. I don't have any abilities, so I had to hide at home at first. My house is big, and I always liked to stock up on snacks, canned goods, and other convenience foods, so I hid for over a month. After the food ran out, I had no choice but to carefully go out and search for more. Don't think I'm helpless just because I'm a normal person—I can actually handle killing a few ordinary zombies!"
"In the fifth month of the apocalypse, I joined a survivor base. Most of the people there were ordinary humans, and I lived with them for several months. In the ninth month, I heard a broadcast message from my father in B City, but I could never get in touch with him. So I decided to pack my things and go find him. By then, the zombies had already evolved. We encountered a level-3 zombie while out on a supply run. That was the day I ran into my college classmate, Zhuang Cun… the one from downstairs just now…" As Yi Shuhan recounted her experiences, her long eyelashes fluttered, capturing Chi Junluo's attention.
Her eyelashes are so long, Chi Junluo thought to herself.
"He was the one who saved me that day. I was actually very grateful, but I never expected him to turn into that kind of person! We had agreed to go to B City, but he brought me here without my consent. And… he tried to force himself on me." Yi Shuhan grew angry as she spoke.
Chi Junluo gently squeezed the small hand she was holding and said softly, "Let the past be the past. They've already been punished. As it happens, I'm also going to B City to find someone. Why don't we travel together? I wouldn't feel at ease with you going alone."
Yi Shuhan was silent for a moment, then she tightened her grip on Chi Junluo's hand, turned, and said solemnly, "Sister Chi… thank you!"
Chi Junluo chuckled lightly and led her away from the small base. Secretly, she extended her mental power and issued a summons.
A massive wave of zombies was approaching.
As a parting gift, she was going to give this group of scumbags a present of life and death.
