DDT - Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Zombie King × Little White Flower (6)

Once they were outside the small base’s jurisdiction, Chi Junluo found a relatively clean and functional sedan by the side of the road. She gently helped Yi Shuhan into the passenger seat, then leaned halfway in to fasten her seatbelt for her.

Yi Shuhan caught a faint, indescribable, fresh scent. In the apocalypse, people often went months without the opportunity or means to bathe. Most carried a strange, sour odor or some other smell. Yi Shuhan herself smelled of the blood that had splattered on her from killing zombies not long ago.

Yet, Chi Junluo didn’t seem to mind the smell and even leaned in so close to buckle her in. Yi Shuhan was a little touched and, at the same time, deeply admired Chi Junluo. An ability user who could keep herself so clean in the apocalypse had to be incredibly powerful. In these times, the strong were objects of worship and admiration for all.

It wasn’t until the faint, fresh scent retreated and the car door shut with a soft ‘thud’ that Yi Shuhan came to her senses. Had she just been mesmerized by a woman’s body fragrance???

Chi Junluo walked around the car to the driver’s seat. She sat down, closed the door, fastened her seatbelt, started the ignition, released the handbrake, eased off the brake, and pressed the accelerator. The series of actions was as smooth as flowing water; she was clearly an old pro.

Under the starry-eyed gaze of Yi Shuhan, a complete novice at driving, the car started slowly, pulled out of its spot, made a beautiful turn onto the road, and accelerated, driving smoothly out of J City.

At that moment, under the summons of Chi Junluo’s formidable mental power, countless zombies lurking in the shadows emerged. In broad daylight, they swarmed the streets, shuffling unsteadily toward the east.

Before long, the streets were teeming with zombies, causing Yi Shuhan to frown. She was currently unarmed. If the car were forced to stop, she would likely become a burden to Sister Chi.

To her surprise, however, the zombies acted as if they couldn’t see the roaring car on the street. They even took a wide detour around it, heading in the opposite direction.

“…Sister Chi, may I be so bold as to ask what your ability is?” After a moment of hesitation, Yi Shuhan voiced her curiosity.

With time to spare while driving, Chi Junluo turned her head slightly and smiled at Yi Shuhan. “I’m a Psychic-type ability user.”

“Sister Chi’s ability is so powerful! The zombies can’t even detect us,” Yi Shuhan exclaimed on the surface, but her words carried a hint of probing and doubt.

“Of course they can’t detect us. I’ve shielded our presence with my mental power. It’s as if I’ve wrapped us up completely. Not only can the zombies not sense us, but even ordinary ability users would have their senses interfered with by my mental power, preventing them from discovering our tracks.” Speaking of her “ability,” Chi Junluo couldn’t help but straighten her back, a hint of pride in her voice. “Shuhan, don’t worry. With a high-level Psychic-type ability user like me by your side, no one can harm you!”

This is no joke, she thought. This is the heroine. She needs to be cherished. If she accidentally gets touched or scratched by a zombie, turns into one, and dies, the Heavenly Dao and I would cry our eyes out. Wouldn’t the Heavenly Dao just crush me?!

To prevent any accidents from befalling the heroine, Chi Junluo had secretly enveloped Yi Shuhan in three inner and three outer layers of her potent mental energy back at the hotel. This psychic power was so formidable that not even a bullet could pierce it, let alone the mere claws of a zombie. She, Chi Junluo, was the Zombie King!

It was only because Yi Shuhan was an ordinary person that she failed to notice anything unusual about her own body.

Hearing Chi Junluo’s explanation, Yi Shuhan felt a sense of relief and finally let her guard down completely. Although her former base companions often said she was naive, too quick to trust, and easily deceived, she had still managed to survive in the apocalypse for over a year. She knew the difference between a kind face and a wicked one, and she understood the treachery of the human heart. While she found Chi Junluo mysterious and enigmatic, she could feel that Chi Junluo was genuinely good to her. She didn’t know what she had done to deserve such kind treatment from this gentle young woman; she was just an ordinary person with nothing this powerful woman could possibly covet. But since she had chosen to trust, she would trust completely.

Evidently, Yi Shuhan still hadn’t considered that Chi Junluo’s approach did indeed come with ulterior motives.

There happened to be a few old CDs in the car. Chi Junluo casually picked one up, put it in the car’s CD player, and pressed play.

“Fine wine and coffee, I only want one cup, thinking of the past…”

A melodious song drifted from the speakers. It was “Wine and Coffee” by the famous classic singer, Miss Teresa Teng.

Chi Junluo didn’t notice that Yi Shuhan’s eyes, sitting in the passenger seat, lit up, and her foot began to tap lightly to the beat.

The car drove all the way out of J City, heading north.

Back in J City, the major bases were facing an unprecedented zombie horde. Hundreds upon thousands of zombies surged toward the human settlements.

The base patrols were terrified; they had never seen so many zombies at once. People raised their guns and fired warning signals into the air. Ability users and ordinary people from all the major bases began to repel and kill the inexplicably organized zombies from behind their barriers.

The other major bases were resisting in an orderly fashion. But when the patrols of the small eastern base saw the waves of zombies, they were scared out of their wits and rushed back to the hotel to report to their Boss, begging him to annihilate the horde.

In the past, the Boss in their eyes would have led his group of formidable ability users to successfully wipe out the zombie swarm, but today was different.

A few of the ability users who went to report first found the newcomer, Zhuang Cun, unconscious and vomiting blood in a corner by the hotel wall. Then, next to him, they saw their Boss lying in a pool of blood.

Coincidentally, one of the reporting ability users was a healer. He barely managed to keep the Boss alive, but what had been censored was beyond saving.

However, the zombies were already attacking, and people had no time to worry about their unconscious and useless Boss. They all turned to fight off the zombies.

If anyone had clairvoyance, they would have discovered that far more zombies were heading for the eastern base than any of the others.

Soon, the ability users of the eastern base were routed. They either died or fled. This small, recently established base was thus easily dismantled by the Zombie King, Chi Junluo.

That’s what the Boss got for coveting someone he shouldn’t have.

The ability users of the small base abandoned their useless, burdensome leader and fled. Coincidentally, the moment they escaped the base’s territory, the zombies stopped their pursuit.

The ability users breathed a sigh of relief and traveled together, escaping toward other cities.

The zombies stopped in perfect unison in front of the hotel, surrounding Zhuang Cun. They were only a few steps away from him but advanced no further, as if an invisible force was restraining the disgusting creatures.

A long time later, Zhuang Cun finally woke up. When he opened his eyes, he saw that he was surrounded by a dense crowd of zombies. His eyes rolled back, and he fainted again.

Beside him, the Boss finally regained consciousness after a long while, only to find himself encircled by zombies. His ability was crippled, he couldn't move an inch, and the base he had worked so hard to build was no more. Most importantly, feeling the excruciating pain between his legs, he realized he could no longer be considered a man.

“Ahhhhhhh!” the Boss howled in agony.

The zombie horde stirred, inching forward, and began to bite down on the two defenseless scumbags.

“Ahhh!” The heart-wrenching screams were gradually swallowed by the swarm of zombies.

Meanwhile, Chi Junluo drove the car, taking the heroine Yi Shuhan away from J City and speeding north toward B City.

In the car, the two chatted idly. Since Yi Shuhan had let her guard down and was filled with an inexplicable confidence in Chi Junluo, she was naively tricked into revealing quite a bit of information.

It turned out that in this world, the heroine Yi Shuhan’s father was a scientist of some renown both at home and abroad. Her father had his own world-class research team, which brought together outstanding bioengineers from all over the globe. Her father could be described as a science fanatic.

Yi Shuhan’s life had been rather difficult. She lost her mother at a young age and was essentially left to raise herself by her father, who was obsessed with his research and never paid her any mind.

Even so, the heroine still deeply admired her father. Although their relationship wasn’t close, and she often only saw him a few times a year on television, she was still influenced by him. Thanks to her excellent genes and sharp mind, she managed to get into the same university as her father, studying bioengineering.

Hearing this, Chi Junluo sighed internally. Another pitiful, abandoned soul.

As a gesture of comfort, Chi Junluo kept her left hand on the steering wheel and gently placed her right hand on Yi Shuhan’s left. Feeling the delicate texture beneath her fingers, Chi Junluo silently told herself: I’m just comforting the heroine. Collecting the Power of the Heavenly Dao is just a side benefit!

The Heavenly Dao, bouncing around in her sea of consciousness: Well done! Hold her hand more! It’s good for your body and mind!

Feeling the continuous warmth from her left hand, Yi Shuhan’s eyes crinkled into a smile.

She continued, her face full of hope, “My father has the best research team in the world, all in the field of bioengineering. I believe he and his team will definitely be able to develop a cure to save the world from the apocalypse!”

“It’s been over a year since the apocalypse started. I’m sure my father has made significant progress. I want to go to B City to find him. Maybe I can even contribute my small part to saving the world?”

Yi Shuhan’s eyes shone as she spoke of the one thing she had wanted to do since the apocalypse began. In the past, whenever she mentioned wanting to save the world, she was met with cold ridicule and accusations of overestimating herself. But today, she heard a gentle voice beside her say, “I believe you can do it.”

This was the first time someone had ever affirmed her belief!
