DDT - Chapter 9
Chapter 9: Zombie King × Little White Flower (8)
"You didn't have to come in, Sister Chi." Yi Shuhan looked at Chi Junluo, a little puzzled. "As an Ability User, you're entitled to many benefits."
The two followed the isolation room administrator into a large room. The administrator closed the heavy metal door and left. The isolation timer began.
Chi Junluo squeezed Yi Shuhan's hand, which she was holding. "How could I leave you alone in such a dangerous place?"
"Stay close to me and don't wander off. I'll protect you," Chi Junluo instructed, pulling Yi Shuhan to sit with her in a corner of the large room.
Surveillance cameras were installed in the upper corners of the room. The surrounding walls were dirty, covered in dark handprints, shoe prints, and some strange brown marks.
Anyone who had seen the horrors of the apocalypse could tell that the brown and black marks were dried bloodstains.
Instantly, everyone in the large room was on edge, worried that the strangers—or even acquaintances—around them might suddenly turn into zombies and lunge at them.
Because of this, people kept a significant distance from one another, their gazes wary as they scanned their surroundings. The few iron rods the base had left for self-defense had all been snatched up by several men. Yi Shuhan looked at the eerie atmosphere in the room and felt a little panicked. But when she felt the hand holding hers tighten, the warmth of the touch unconsciously calmed her down.
What's there to be afraid of? Sister Chi is a super-powerful, high-level psychic Ability User!
Yi Shuhan was completely unaware that she was already starting to feel a sense of dependence on Chi Junluo, whom she had only just met.
An hour passed quickly. The large room was quiet, and the people, who had been on high alert, gradually began to relax.
They were all ordinary people, but there was still a difference in strength between men and women. Sensing a vague danger, several women began to casually shift their positions, gathering together. A few of the men, their eyes glinting darkly, sized up the huddle of women, as well as Chi Junluo and Yi Shuhan, who seemed completely out of place. When the men saw the two clean women, their eyes lit up.
Another half an hour went by.
The men grew restless. The base had only said they would be isolated, but it hadn't specified what they couldn't do inside the isolation room. An excited gleam flashed in the men's eyes.
Suddenly, a man clutched his arm, wailed, and fell to the ground. He convulsed uncontrollably, foaming at the mouth as black veins bulged on his head. It was the prelude to zombification!
The men who had been gathered together were startled, and the crowd quickly scattered. A few of them brandished their iron rods, eager for action.
"He's turning! Kill him, quickly!" a cowardly man hiding behind the others shouted.
Hearing this, several men shot the coward a contemptuous look before walking over with their rods.
"I'm not turning! I'm not! Don't kill me! Don't kill me!" The man on the ground was still conscious, fighting his final battle against the zombie virus. He was still young; he had only been accidentally scratched by a knife stained with zombie blood! It was impossible for him to be infected! Impossible! "I want out! Let me out!"
The man's face was already turning ashen gray, his pupils fading to a dull color. His cheeks were visibly and rapidly shriveling, and black blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
The virus had penetrated deep into his organs. The man's body had been completely overcome.
"What are you waiting for? Hurry up and do it! He's really turning into a zombie!" the cowardly man stammered and yelled.
"You're such a coward. Don't tell me you've gone this long without killing a single zombie?" A menacing man, about one-ninety in height with a scar on his face, twirled an iron rod as he walked up to the coward. "Take this. Go kill that guy who's about to turn. Otherwise, I'll cripple you! Coward."
With that, the scarred man tossed the iron rod to the coward. The cowardly man fell silent at once, holding the rod, not knowing whether to advance or retreat.
A man from behind kicked him in the rear. The coward stumbled forward a few steps and raised the iron rod high, looking hesitantly at the man on the ground, who had stopped wailing and fallen silent.
"Go on, hit him. Otherwise, when he turns, you'll be the first one he eats," the scarred man taunted.
The cowardly man finally steeled himself, swinging the rod and smashing it down hard on the man's head.
With a sickening crunch, a sound like a watermelon being smashed reached everyone's ears, setting their teeth on edge.
Two timid women who had never witnessed such a scene let out soft gasps.
They had successfully drawn the men's attention.
The act of killing the turning man had awakened the men's bloodthirsty, bestial nature. After confirming that no one else had any external injuries, they began to surround the women huddled in the corner.
The woman at the front held an iron rod. She stood at the forefront, trembling, and swallowed nervously as she faced the group of men with malicious intent.
They were all ordinary women who had managed to survive the apocalypse, clawing their way out of piles of corpses. While they could handle killing ordinary zombies on a normal day, those were slow-moving. As long as one could overcome the psychological barrier, they could be killed. But the men before them were different. They were agile and strong, with the advantage of height and weight. A few of them clearly had some training. For a group of weak women like them, the odds of winning were not high.
"Drop the rod. Play with us brothers for a bit, and we'll let you live," the scarred man leading them said with a grin.
"This is the B City Base! Don't you dare do anything!" the lead woman said sternly.
"Do you think they care? We'll just say you were about to turn. After we're done, we'll kill you, and the base won't say a thing," the scarred man said arrogantly. The men behind him nodded in agreement. Despair washed over the women's faces.
They had two choices. One, they could submit, be violated by the men, and perhaps be allowed to live. The other was to fight to the death. They might end up with broken arms or legs. If they won, they would have lost their ability to work and would struggle to survive in the apocalypse. If they lost, they would be violated and then killed.
No matter which they chose, it was an abyss.
Everyone had uniformly ignored Chi Junluo and Yi Shuhan in the other corner. In the men's eyes, the two of them were weak, harmless, and silent—they had probably already resigned themselves to their fate. In the women's eyes, these two were equally useless.
Yi Shuhan's eyes were filled with fury. She couldn't understand why, in humanity's final days, people couldn't unite. Why did they have to take advantage of the collapse of law to prey on their own kind?
Yi Shuhan clenched her fists in anger.
Feeling the force from her right hand, Chi Junluo successfully registered the rage erupting from Yi Shuhan's heart.
Just as Yi Shuhan was about to stand up and rush out, Chi Junluo, with quick eyes and hands, wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into her embrace. She lowered her head and whispered softly in Yi Shuhan's ear, "Don't be rash. Trust me."
Pulled back, Yi Shuhan fell into a warm embrace. Strangely, her anger was enveloped by the warmth surrounding her and slowly melted away into the air. She managed to calm down. That was right—she was unarmed. Rushing out would be suicide. The thought that she had almost endangered Sister Chi made Yi Shuhan feel a pang of regret for her impulsiveness.
Two women in the other group had been secretly watching Chi Junluo's side. After seeing their interaction, a vicious glint flashed in their eyes.
Just as the men and women were at a standoff, a malicious voice rose from the back of the women's group. "There are two great beauties sitting in that corner over there. What, you're not tempted? Instead of coming for a bunch of dirty scraps like us, I think you'd be better off with those two clean ones."
As soon as she spoke, all eyes in the room fell upon Chi Junluo and Yi Shuhan.
Neither of them looked pleased. Yi Shuhan was thinking, I was just thinking of saving you, and you sell me out in the next second! A million curses ran through her mind.
Chi Junluo, on the other hand, was displeased that her heroine was once again being lusted after by these scumbags.
The long-silent Heavenly Dao suddenly spoke up. "Chi Chi! Hurry up and take care of this trash! Protect This Deity's heroine!"
Chi Junluo gently patted Yi Shuhan's small, fair hand, signaling for her not to worry, then slowly stood up.
Chi Junluo hopped in place a few times, loosening her limbs. "You all," she said, "are you looking to die?"
