After Escaping Marriage - Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Chapter 72

Yu Jianxing immediately elbowed Cheng Zhanxi back, protesting, "Who am I doing this for?"

Cheng Zhanxi nimbly dodged, laughing, "For me, for me."

"Then how dare you speak to the hero like that? Do you admit you're wrong, Xixi?"

"Xixi knows she was wrong."

Yu Qingtang couldn't hear the commotion outside the car, only seeing the figures of the two playing around in the rearview mirror. Yu Jianxing had her arm around Cheng Zhanxi's shoulder, the two behaving intimately, happily chatting about something.

Yu Qingtang's thin lips pressed together slightly.

She also wanted to be like Yu Jianxing, playing around with Cheng Zhanxi without restraint.

The back door opened, and Yu Jianxing quickly got in, greeting her, "Hello, Miss Yu. My surname is also Yu. Maybe we were from the same family five hundred years ago."

Yu Qingtang glanced back at her, saying coolly in a tone devoid of emotion, "Mine is the Yu from 'melancholy' (yōuyù)."

Yu Jianxing mentally hissed softly. Why did she feel this Miss Yu was hostile towards her? Was she that jealous?

The Yu of melancholy. She looked at Yu Qingtang before her, a faint sorrow like light smoke gathered between her brows. She did look quite melancholic.

Yu Jianxing smiled normally, "Has Xixi told you which character my Yu is?"

Xixi?

Yu Qingtang frowned almost imperceptibly, replying concisely, "No."

"Then how do you know our Yu isn't the same?"

"I didn't say."

Yu Jianxing's mind turned, understanding. Yu Qingtang had only stated which Yu hers was, not denying the possibility of their surnames being the same character. But her words had a deliberately misleading element; she could have been more precise instead of being ambiguous, putting her in an awkward position.

"Sorry, Miss Yu, I misunderstood," Yu Jianxing said. "Let me introduce myself again. My name is Yu Jianxing. The Yu of 'bǐyù' (metaphor), the Jian of 'yùjiàn' (encounter), the Xing of 'xīngxing' (star)."

As soon as Cheng Zhanxi got in, she heard Yu Jianxing introducing herself. She closed the car door, clicked her tongue, reached up to pull the seatbelt, and said, "What are you doing? Taking advantage while I'm not here, hmm?"

Yu Jianxing laughed, "Discussing surnames with Miss Yu. Don't we both have the surname Yu?"

Cheng Zhanxi: "Couldn't you just ask me? She doesn't like talking, don't bother her."

Yu Jianxing was slightly stunned, thinking: Good heavens, she's this protective even before they're together? What will happen when they actually are?

Cheng Zhanxi smiled at Yu Qingtang, her tone softening a hundredfold, asking, "Did she ask any impolite questions?"

Yu Jianxing rolled her eyes at the car roof.

Yu Qingtang shook her head.

Cheng Zhanxi: "Good girl. Tell me if she bullies you."

Yu Jianxing started rubbing the goosebumps on her arm.

Yu Qingtang said very softly, "Got it. Just drive."

Cheng Zhanxi reached out and patted Yu Qingtang's head, her eyes curving into crescents.

As she retracted her hand, she checked if Yu Qingtang's seatbelt was fastened properly, then drove the car out of the high-speed rail station.

Yu Jianxing originally remembered her duty as a shiny third wheel, not disturbing the little couple, and lowered her head to play with her phone. But Yu Qingtang didn't speak the entire time, so quiet it was as if she weren't there. Occasionally, Cheng Zhanxi would say something, Yu Qingtang would reply with an "Mm," and there would be no follow-up.

Yu Jianxing lifted her head from behind her phone, seeing the two seemed quite comfortable, as if accustomed to this pattern.

This...

Yu Jianxing recalled some old matters, worry surfacing in her heart.

Cheng Zhanxi saw Yu Jianxing playing alone in the rearview mirror and proactively cued her, "How are things with that bartender?"

Yu Jianxing snapped back from her memories and asked, "Which bartender?"

Cheng Zhanxi casually turned the steering wheel with one hand to make a turn, let out a sound of surprise, and said, "So you've already met other bartenders?"

Yu Jianxing thought for a few seconds, then dragged out an "Oh."

Cheng Zhanxi realized she might say the word "bar," and to avoid triggering bad memories for Yu Qingtang, she quickly said, "Right, that's her."

Yu Jianxing laughed, "She and I don't really have anything going on."

"Weren't you two hitting it off before?"

"Hitting it off? We just had a few meals together, watched a few movies, did some things adults like to do. Then it ended, mutually agreed."

Cheng Zhanxi said heartbrokenly, "Look at you, when will you settle down and learn from me, be serious about relationships, be devoted!"

Yu Jianxing: "???"

In their circle, many did like to play around. Cheng Zhanxi had a face that charmed everyone, a personality everyone loved. It was indeed rare for her not to flirt around; that was widely acknowledged. But for her to suddenly claim she was devoted, like Wang Po praising her own melons, was unusual.

In a flash, Yu Jianxing suddenly understood, her lips twitching.

So Cheng Zhanxi was stepping on her to praise herself, indirectly showing her crush that she was different from someone like her who wandered through the fields of love.

As a good sister, Yu Jianxing naturally had to play the wingman well. As for the score of being stepped on, they'd settle it privately later.

"You're right." Yu Jianxing put down her phone and said seriously, "I really need to learn from you, learn your..."

She praised Cheng Zhanxi so much that Cheng Zhanxi almost couldn't listen anymore. She cleared her throat to stop her, then, while stopped at a red light before the crosswalk, looked at Yu Qingtang beside her. Yu Qingtang met her gaze, her eyes calm without ripples, her slightly furrowed brows indicating confusion.

Cheng Zhanxi: "..."

She had a feeling Yu Qingtang hadn't understood what the two of them were talking about at all.

Cheng Zhanxi parked the car in the mall's underground garage, got out last, and locked the car door with the key.

Yu Qingtang waited for her a few steps away from the front of the car. Cheng Zhanxi walked over, naturally took her hand, fingers intertwined, and said to Yu Jianxing beside them, "Let's go."

Yu Jianxing said, "I want to hold hands too~"

Cheng Zhanxi laughed and cursed, "Get lost."

Yu Qingtang looked at her and Cheng Zhanxi's joined hands, gently rested her head on Cheng Zhanxi's shoulder for a moment, then straightened up again.

Cheng Zhanxi lifted her free hand and touched her face.

Yu Jianxing: "..."

Her own dating life was really a waste; it wasn't even as sweet as this flirting couple shoving their affection in her face.

Yu Jianxing couldn't stand it and walked ahead, saying, "I'll go press the elevator button!"

"Shall we go too?" Cheng Zhanxi lifted their tightly clasped hands.

"...Mm." Yu Qingtang paused for two seconds before answering.

The two walked behind, maintaining a distance that wasn't too far or too close. Yu Qingtang asked in a voice only they could hear, "Are you still having dinner with her tonight?"

Cheng Zhanxi said, "You don't like her?"

Yu Qingtang lowered her eyes.

"No."

Cheng Zhanxi roughly guessed she had prepared a birthday surprise or something similar for her. Thinking for a moment, she said, "After lunch, I might have to accompany her for a bit. Dinner isn't certain. I'll be back before eight, is that okay?"

Yu Qingtang was silent for a moment, then lowered her head and said, "Okay."

Cheng Zhanxi cupped her face, teased her chin, looked into her eyes, and said gently, "Are you unhappy?"

Yu Qingtang's cheeks puffed out almost imperceptibly. "No," she said.

Cheng Zhanxi hugged her, rubbing her chin against the top of her head, saying softly, "She came all this way to celebrate my birthday, it wouldn't be right to leave her aside. I promise I'll come home as soon as possible, okay?"

"Okay." Yu Qingtang replied sullenly, her hands wrapping around the woman's waist.

Yu Jianxing walked quite far without hearing footsteps behind her. Turning back, she saw the two hugging far away, just short of kissing.

This isn't called dating?!

Yu Jianxing sent Cheng Zhanxi a message. Cheng Zhanxi gently patted Yu Qingtang's back with one hand, took out her phone from her pocket, and smiled in Yu Jianxing's direction.

The phone vibrated again.

[Yu Jianxing]: Can you consider the feelings of a single dog?

[Cheng Zhanxi]: I'm a single dog too [Innocent]

[Yu Jianxing]: Stop it, don't be so flirty.

[Cheng Zhanxi]: Hahahahaha

Cheng Zhanxi stuffed her phone back into her pocket, temporarily joining the Single Dog Protection Association, and went up to the Korean barbecue restaurant on the third floor of the mall.

It was already past mealtime, so the three didn't need to wait for a table and went straight in to sit down.

Yu Qingtang put down her handbag and went to the restroom.

Cheng Zhanxi placed Yu Qingtang's handbag into the storage basket on the floor, put the lid on, looked up, and met Yu Jianxing's winking gaze.

Cheng Zhanxi laughed, "Stop winking. Why are you winking at me? Go wink at your little sister."

Yu Jianxing said, "Been single for several months, where would I find a little sister? I think your little sister is quite nice, will you let me wink at her?"

Cheng Zhanxi scoffed, "Do you think she'd pay attention to you?"

"Quite confident."

"When have I ever not been confident?"

"Then why haven't you caught her yet?"

"I respect her. I don't seek temporary possession, only everlasting togetherness."

Being together wasn't Cheng Zhanxi's ultimate goal. Judging by Yu Qingtang's current dependence on her, if she proposed being a couple, coupled with endless tactics and pressure, Yu Qingtang wouldn't be able to resist. But would such a development really be good for them?

Yu Qingtang had just opened her eyes to see this world. Cheng Zhanxi temporarily acted as her guide. She was like a toddler learning to walk, needing someone to lead her step by step out of her closed shell, to lift the sun from the deep abyss.

She still didn't understand what liking was, what love was, what was worth protecting. Cheng Zhanxi didn't want her to be with her confusedly, simply and crudely making her world revolve only around herself.

Compared to making Yu Qingtang like her, Cheng Zhanxi hoped even more that she could like this world, and in this beautiful human world, that she liked herself the most.

Yu Jianxing didn't understand. In her view, this was too tiring. It was just dating—easy and happy. If it worked, stay together; if not, break up. The next one would be better behaved. There was no need to choose this hell mode.

But she knew Cheng Zhanxi was different from her, not just in her view of love, but her entire outlook on life and values were different. Sympathizing with the weak, wholeheartedly striving for good, even sacrificing herself for others, always tolerant, always loving. Sometimes Yu Jianxing even felt she might be the reincarnation of the Virgin Mary—in a complimentary sense, naturally radiating light, commonly known as the brilliance of humanity. Standing beside her made Yu Jianxing feel selfish and incredibly small. People are like that; the more they lack something, the more they yearn for it. Not being able to do it didn't stop Yu Jianxing from feeling something akin to admiration for her. Other friends liked gathering around her, more or less for similar reasons.

If the world lacked people like Cheng Zhanxi, it would truly be much dimmer.

Yu Jianxing didn't voice her shallow opinions. She picked up her water cup, took a sip, and kindly reminded, "I hope you remember the lessons from before, don't repeat the same mistakes."

The smile on Cheng Zhanxi's face froze slightly, then quickly returned to normal. She said in a low voice, "I know."

She was long past twenty.

Yu Jianxing asked seriously, "Are you really not with her out of sympathy?"

"I..." Cheng Zhanxi smiled. Just as she was about to answer, she seemed to sense something, tilted her head slightly, and saw Yu Qingtang in the black trench coat standing at the corner, about ten meters away.

Cheng Zhanxi's heart skipped a beat, then quickly relaxed.

At such a distance, and in a noisy restaurant, it was impossible for Yu Qingtang to hear what they were saying.

Cheng Zhanxi promptly stopped the topic and waved at her.

Yu Qingtang's face was calm. She walked over and sat down beside Cheng Zhanxi.

Cheng Zhanxi handed her the menu, saying gently, "See what you'd like to eat?"

Yu Jianxing inserted a straw into her water cup, observing the two while drinking, mainly observing Cheng Zhanxi. Cheng Zhanxi's personality was gentle, yes, but she wasn't the central air-conditioning type—her behavior was measured, never giving ambiguous impressions. This was the first time she had seen her proactively show attentiveness and consideration beyond friendship, love written clearly in her eyes.

Yu Jianxing's eyes showed a hint of envy, but her gaze towards Yu Qingtang held hidden worry.

Hopefully, Cheng Zhanxi wouldn't get hurt because of her.

Cheng Zhanxi tapped the table with a bent finger, subtly reminding her to retract her gaze, while saying, "We've finished ordering, see if there's anything else you'd like?"

Yu Jianxing took it, smiling, "Let me see."

The three finished ordering. The server came over with the charcoal fire. Tongs held the red-hot charcoal basin, heat waves rushing towards them. The server signaled them to move further away to avoid getting burned.

Yu Qingtang didn't move for some reason. Cheng Zhanxi put an arm around her shoulder, pressing her face into her embrace.

The grill was placed over the charcoal basin, and the server retreated.

The ordered dishes arrived one after another: seasoned beef belly, thick-cut pork belly, beef tongue, pork shoulder, small lamb chops, chicken wings...

The server grilled the meat for them nearby. Cheng Zhanxi returned after washing her hands, picked up a piece of lettuce, picked up a piece of seasoned beef belly dipped in sauce, wrapped it up, and brought it to Yu Qingtang's lips. Yu Qingtang's red lips parted slightly, taking a small bite as before, but unexpectedly, the juice from the lettuce wrap flowed out, dirtying Cheng Zhanxi's fair, clean fingers.

Meeting Yu Qingtang's panicked and self-reproachful gaze, Cheng Zhanxi said gently in an unchanged tone, "You have to eat this in one bite, otherwise it leaks easily."

She had Yu Jianxing opposite demonstrate. Yu Jianxing quickly wrapped one, stuffed it in her mouth in one bite, her cheeks puffing out as she chewed, making a "Thanks for watching" gesture.

Cheng Zhanxi offered it forward again. Yu Qingtang followed the example, immediately eating it, almost biting Cheng Zhanxi's finger. She was mainly anxious to get Cheng Zhanxi a tissue to wipe her hand. Cheng Zhanxi rested her chin on one hand, saying softly and unhurriedly, "It's bound to get dirty sooner or later. I'll just wash my hands later, no need to be so nervous."

Yu Jianxing: "..."

Hiccup, full.

Yu Qingtang had been to barbecue restaurants even less often than hot pot restaurants. The taste of barbecue was too heavy and oily for her; even wrapped in lettuce, she quickly felt overwhelmed. She preferred eating the side dishes like mashed potatoes and pumpkin porridge.

Cheng Zhanxi fed her a few bites, realized she genuinely didn't like it, and didn't force her anymore, instead secretly pondering what else to take her to eat later.

Yu Qingtang had nothing to do. Their roles quickly reversed. Cheng Zhanxi picked up a slice of beef tongue with her chopsticks, lowered her head to get lettuce, only to see a wrapped piece offered to her lips.

Cheng Zhanxi smiled, looked into her eyes, and leaned closer to her slender fingers.

Yu Qingtang's fingertips were wet and cool from the lettuce water. As she moved away, they faintly brushed against the corner of Cheng Zhanxi's lips, lingering imperceptibly for half a second.

Yu Jianxing lifted her head slightly and was blinded. She buried her head and ate diligently, making small sounds.

Finishing lunch, Cheng Zhanxi wandered around the building for a while, bought Yu Qingtang two snacks and a cup of milk tea.

After eating, she first took her home. The white Audi A4 stopped at the entrance of Mingmen Estate. Cheng Zhanxi unbuckled the passenger seatbelt and gently instructed, "There are wontons and dumplings I wrapped before in the fridge. Noodles are in the cabinet. You know where the snacks are. If you get hungry this afternoon, use the key to open my door and get something to eat inside."

Yu Qingtang hummed in agreement.

She hadn't said much the whole way. Cheng Zhanxi felt a bit uneasy, rubbed her head, and said, "Call me if anything comes up. I've set my phone to ring mode."

Yu Qingtang nodded.

Cheng Zhanxi unlocked the car doors. Yu Qingtang pushed the door open and got out.

Cheng Zhanxi lowered the window, suppressed the heat in her ears, looked at her, and said, "Also, you can call or text me even if nothing's wrong. I... I'll miss you." Yu Jianxing heard this and immediately felt it was incredibly cheesy. She quickly pressed her face against the tinted rear window, wanting to see Yu Qingtang's reaction.

Yu Qingtang's expression faltered for a moment, then she nodded faintly, "Mm."

Yu Jianxing: "..."

Xixi is too pitiful, encountering such an unromantic block of wood.

Cheng Zhanxi, however, smiled brilliantly, waved her hand, and said, "See you tonight."

"See you tonight." Yu Qingtang's voice softened unconsciously, the corners of her lips curving slightly, outlining a faint smile.

Yu Jianxing's eyes, pressed against the car window, saw Yu Qingtang's fleeting smile and paused for a moment.

The white Audi slowly drove away from the main entrance of Mingmen Estate. Yu Jianxing watched from the car window as the figure remained standing there, watching them leave, not turning back for a long time.

Cheng Zhanxi saw this in the rearview mirror and said, "That's enough. The beautiful flower already has an owner. What are you looking at?"

Yu Jianxing sat up straight, complaining, "I can't even see her anymore. You're even jealous of this? You might as well be called a vinegar jar."

"The vinegar I have, do you have it?"

Yu Jianxing was speechless.

After a long while, she said, "I think I know why you like her so much."

That smile Yu Qingtang just gave—never mind Cheng Zhanxi, even she felt her heart stir. It was just that she was destined not to have Cheng Zhanxi's patience and persistence, willing to excavate the flower beneath the ice inch by inch. Even if that flower fell into her palm, she wouldn't be able to nurture it well.

Cheng Zhanxi looked straight ahead, saying sternly, "I'm warning you, don't get any ideas you shouldn't."

Yu Jianxing: "I was just expressing my feelings. She's not my type."

"Even if she were, it wouldn't be okay."

"Got it."

Cheng Zhanxi turned on the turn signal, which blinked. She looked in the rearview mirror, merged the car into the main road traffic, held the steering wheel steadily with both hands, and spoke again, "The question you asked me during the meal just now, I can answer you. I can distinguish between sympathy and liking. When I met her, I didn't even know her background. Love at first sight, understand?"

Yu Jianxing felt relieved and smiled, "Understood."

Cheng Zhanxi: "You don't understand, you've never experienced love at first sight."

Yu Jianxing: "Why the personal attack?"

Cheng Zhanxi: "Hahahahaha."

Yu Qingtang watched the white Audi disappear from view, then turned and entered the complex gate.

Building 19.

Yu Qingtang opened the glass door alone and walked in.

The young lady at the front desk showed a sweet smile, "Hello, Miss Yu." Then she looked behind her, unexpectedly not seeing the familiar figure, and asked an extra question, "Where's Miss Cheng?"

Yu Qingtang said, "She had something to do, she'll be back tonight."

Recently, Yu Qingtang seemed more approachable. The young lady casually chatted with her, "Did you buy milk tea from X brand? This one is quite good."

Yu Qingtang lowered her head half a beat late, looked at the bag in her hand and the half-finished milk tea, and said, "Teacher Cheng bought it."

Teacher Cheng?

The young lady thought, this form of address is quite interesting.

The young lady showed genuine envy, saying, "I really envy Miss Yu, Miss Cheng likes you so much."

Yu Qingtang repeated to herself, "Likes me?"

Her knuckles, hooked around the milk tea bag handle, moved slightly. She looked up and said, "I'll head upstairs first."

The receptionist said, "Please go ahead, Miss Yu."

Yu Qingtang opened the door to 2101, placed the bag of snacks and the half-cup of milk tea on the coffee table, opened the refrigerator, took out the cheesecake, and placed it on the coffee table along with a small gift box tied with a ribbon.

She sat on the sofa, looking for a long, long time.

The light of the setting sun slowly retreated from the floor. Dimness enveloped the living room. In the quiet space, her voice, low as if unheard, sounded, filled with confusion: "Sympathy...?"

Cheng Zhanxi arranged for Yu Jianxing to stay at a star-rated hotel in the city center and drove home.

7:40, twenty minutes before the agreed time.

She didn't go back to her own apartment, instead going directly to ring Yu Qingtang's doorbell.

The sound of running echoed in the corridor. Yu Qingtang was startled awake by the sound. Just as she lifted her head from her knees, she heard an anxious ringing of the doorbell.

Ding dong ding dong ding dong—

Yu Qingtang put down her feet, which had been resting on the sofa, got up, and opened the door.

Cheng Zhanxi stood at the door, skillfully lifted her out from the entryway, held her hands hanging by her sides with both of hers. Even in her eagerness, there wasn't a trace of blame, her voice still gentle, "Why didn't you message me, hmm?"

Yu Qingtang opened her mouth and said, "Forgot." She asked, "What time is it now?"

"7:41."

"So late."

"What were you doing?" Cheng Zhanxi looked inside; it was pitch black. "Why didn't you turn on the lights?"

Yu Qingtang hesitated for a long time before saying, "Forgot that too."

"..."

Cheng Zhanxi suspected she might even forget herself one day. Yu Qingtang wanted to go back and turn on the lights. Cheng Zhanxi picked her up horizontally in her arms, closed the door of 2101 with her foot, and walked directly across the hall.

Yu Qingtang wrapped her arms around her neck, rested her face on her shoulder, and closed her eyes.

"The key is in my pocket."

Yu Qingtang opened her eyes, fumbled in her pocket with one hand, felt the cool key, took it out, and opened the door.

The main living room light snapped on. The bright light made Yu Qingtang squint, burying her face in Cheng Zhanxi's neck. Cheng Zhanxi carried her inside barefoot, placed her on the sofa, went to the entryway to dim the lights, put on cotton slippers, and asked her, "Have you had dinner yet?"

Yu Qingtang shook her head.

"Forgot?" Cheng Zhanxi laughed.

Yu Qingtang nodded.

"I'll go make you something to eat." Cheng Zhanxi walked towards the kitchen. She didn't ask Yu Qingtang what she wanted; asking meant anything was fine. She decided to make a bowl of beef noodles.

Footsteps sounded from behind. Cheng Zhanxi's left sleeve tightened. Turning back, she saw Yu Qingtang standing behind her, holding onto her with one hand.

"What's wrong?" Cheng Zhanxi softened her expression and asked.

Yu Qingtang's thin lips moved. After a long while, she said, "I want to make it myself."

Cheng Zhanxi looked at her for a while, trying to discern something from her calm eyes. After a moment, she smiled and said, "Okay, I'll teach you."

Cheng Zhanxi got the ingredients from the fridge. Yu Qingtang, citing her birthday as the reason, refused her offer to help, processed the ingredients step by step, boiled water for the noodles, rinsed them in cold water, and made two bowls of noodles under Cheng Zhanxi's guidance. Cheng Zhanxi had already eaten but lied, saying she hadn't. They ate at opposite ends of the dining table, separated by the steaming white mist.

After the meal, the two watched Anita Mui's "Rouge" together in the living room. Yu Qingtang watched very intently, especially Anita Mui's scenes, not missing a single frame.

Besides feeling jealous, Cheng Zhanxi introduced the male actor in the movie, Leslie Cheung. Yu Qingtang said softly, "I've heard his name." Her eyes remained focused on the TV screen.

Cheng Zhanxi hummed softly and didn't disturb her movie watching anymore.

Twelfth Master Chan bought a rouge box at a roadside stall, put it on Fleur, played by Anita Mui, and hugged her fiercely, forcefully, as if wanting to merge her into his own bones and blood.

A cool softness covered the back of Cheng Zhanxi's hand resting beside her. Yu Qingtang covered her hand, separated her fingers from above, intertwined her fingers with hers, clasping tightly.

The two agreed to die together in a suicide pact, but only Fleur died after taking the drug; Twelfth Master Chan survived.

When the movie ended, the camera only showed the old and decrepit Twelfth Master Chan, standing there thin and lonely, fading away, the song ending.

Yu Qingtang's wide eyes were covered with a faint mist.

She quietly took two light breaths, lowered her eyelids, released the sweaty hand she was holding, and said, "Very good."

Before Cheng Zhanxi could reply, Yu Qingtang lit up her phone screen and said, "I need to go back for a moment, get something."

Cheng Zhanxi said, "I'll wait for you here."

She knew Yu Qingtang was going back to get her birthday gift.

Five minutes later, Yu Qingtang returned, but she didn't come in. Instead, she stopped at the door of 2102, holding a cake in one hand, using a lighter in the other to light the birthday candle on top. As the lighter clicked, the lights inside went out.

Cheng Zhanxi created the atmosphere for herself.

Yu Qingtang stepped through the door holding the cake with both hands. The candlelight reflected on her pale face, adding a touch of color, making her look delicate, beautiful, and pure.

Her phone, tucked in her pocket, played the Happy Birthday song. Her expression was reserved as she walked step by step towards Cheng Zhanxi standing in the entryway corridor.

Cheng Zhanxi smiled slightly, welcoming her arrival.

Yu Qingtang mentally finished the last line of the Happy Birthday song, arrived in front of Cheng Zhanxi. She lifted her face, suppressed the surging heat in her eyes. After a few seconds, her voice, lingering and soft, said, "Happy birthday, Xixi."

"You be happy too," Cheng Zhanxi said gently.

The cake was placed on the dining table. Yu Qingtang magically produced a small princess crown from her pocket and handed it to Cheng Zhanxi.

Cheng Zhanxi had her put it on her, sat opposite, looked at the burning candle, clasped her hands together with fingers intertwined, held them in front of her. Before closing her eyes, she asked Yu Qingtang, "Do you have any wishes? I'll make them for you."

Yu Qingtang shook her head, "I don't have any wishes."

Cheng Zhanxi suddenly became sad. She said, "I do."

She looked into Yu Qingtang's eyes and seriously made the first wish: "I wish Yu Qingtang will never leave me."
