SCHS - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
Wen Shixue possessed a kind of magic that made people want to open up her little head and see what was hidden inside. As her father, Wen Lianchang was clearly used to this, watching his daughter calmly plot and attempt to swindle money from him.
The idea was novel, but reality was harsh. Business genius Wen Shixue's clever scheme was ultimately nipped in the bud.
Wen Shixue's plot failed, and her eager smile vanished instantly. She no longer held Wen Lianchang's hand with enthusiasm, instead returning to flipping through the financial magazine, composed as if nothing had happened.
Qin Zhen watched her change expressions so quickly and remain so calm, feeling both helpless and amused, along with a hint of relief. Although her ideas were unpredictable, they were at least from Chenfeng's perspective, showing the demeanor of a CEO who considered the company's interests.
Seeing that she had settled down, Wen Lianchang turned back to Qin Zhen: "Don't refuse this salary. You put in the effort, and you deserve this reward. Listen to Uncle Wen, it's settled."
Unable to decline further, Qin Zhen accepted.
...
The two left the Chairman's office together, preparing to head back. They would officially start work at Chenfeng the day after tomorrow. Wen Shixue walked with her hands behind her back, her palm still gripping the baseball bat, which had been re-covered with the black bag. Her steps were particularly leisurely, as if she wasn't holding a bat but a delicate and lovely flower.
Qin Zhen glanced at her, then withdrew her gaze, feeling increasingly that this was an extraordinary young lady from a wealthy family.
Wen Shixue suddenly stopped. Qin Zhen also stopped, and their eyes met in a tacit understanding, fixed on the two men ahead – Wen Shixue's second uncle and cousin, Wen Jian.
Wen Jian was wearing a flashy patterned suit, slightly bent over, with his father Wen Changshun's arm around his shoulder and a pat on his back. His face was full of determination, making it unclear what the father and son were plotting.
Thanks to Wen Changshun, Wen Shixue and Wen Jian had always been at odds. She found Wen Jian, this outwardly impressive but inwardly rotten playboy, utterly annoying and an eyesore. If she were to rank the people or things she disliked, Wen Jian would definitely be in the top three, with the first being the fact that she had become the villainous supporting character.
Wen Jian on the other side also spotted her and Qin Zhen. After an arrogant glance, he turned and left with Wen Changshun. Although they were family, they couldn't even be bothered to exchange greetings.
Qin Zhen could see now that Wen Shixue's relationship wasn't just bad with Wen Changshun; it wasn't much better with Wen Jian either.
Wen Shixue narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing Wen Jian's retreating back. Then, crossing her arms, she said, "Vice President Qin, you've been working for so many years, you must know quite a few people and have your own ways of gathering information, right?"
It was true, and Qin Zhen knew she had something specific in mind. She asked directly, "What do you want to do?"
Wen Shixue raised the baseball bat and pointed it at the flashily dressed Wen Jian: "Find someone to keep an eye on this guy." She shifted the bat slightly to the side, "And this one too."
Although she had issued the warning about "Convince by virtue," some people were just itching for a beating. She wouldn't just sit back and wait; having someone watch them would give her more peace of mind. Of course, watching people should be done by professionals. She believed that Qin Zhen possessed not only rich work experience and a sharp business mind but also a considerable network of connections, perhaps even knowing some professional "spies."
She winked at Qin Zhen, smiling playfully: "Since Vice President Qin and I are already acquainted, then Vice President Qin is part of my network. Asking a connection for a little help isn't too much, is it?"
It was Qin Zhen who had told her to learn to expand her network and get to know more people in the industry so she could ask for help when needed in the future.
She had listened and was now putting it into practice. Qin Zhen, as her teacher, couldn't possibly say no.
Qin Zhen's calm eyes reflected her image. She was still as beautiful, lively, dazzling, and mischievous as the first day they met.
Very smart. Qin Zhen thought so.
"Understood." She gave her answer.
Wen Shixue's almond eyes curved into a smile: "Then I'll thank Vice President Qin in advance." Suddenly remembering something, she asked, "Zhu Ziming has already interviewed at Chenfeng. Vice President Qin must have seen his design drafts? How are they? Do you believe in his ability now?"
The work submitted by interviewees wasn't just reviewed by HR; it was also seen by the CEO and Vice President. To ensure preparations were complete, the new company's management received news of the new CEO and Vice President earlier than the board shareholders. Moreover, Qin Zhen had already notified the HR department to pay attention to Zhu Ziming, so they saw his design drafts immediately.
His ability was clear at a glance.
Qin Zhen did believe it.
Wen Shixue smiled with satisfaction, finding the contrast between Qin Zhen's serious demeanor while being subtly tricked by her and her mature appearance rather endearingly cute, making her want to laugh but dare not – Wen Shixue was afraid of being hit, and also afraid of exposing her knowledge of the plot.
Thinking of this, a sudden, indescribable sense of loneliness welled up inside her. From the moment she gained all the plot details, she had been separated from the world, becoming an independent, special individual. In this lifetime, perhaps no one would ever truly accept the complete her, and she couldn't frankly reveal this to anyone – not everyone could accept becoming a paper character...
Loneliness quietly spread in her eyes. Afraid of being discovered by Qin Zhen, she quickly averted her gaze, stretched, and changed the subject to distract herself: "Then I'll just wait for Zhu Ziming to make me a lot of money!"
Qin Zhen paused for a moment, feeling as if she had seen a hint of loss on Wen Shixue that was completely out of character, yet she couldn't grasp it, as if it were just a hallucination. She looked at Wen Shixue's back, scrutinized it for a moment, asked nothing, and dismissed it as a hallucination.
She gazed at Wen Shixue's slender figure, her tone calm: "President Wen really wants to make money."
"Who in this world doesn't want to make money?" Wen Shixue turned back and asked.
Qin Zhen said, "You desire it more than others."
She could sense this. Then, she asked, "Is it because you don't like that fiancé?"
"That's not it," Wen Shixue was very honest. "I don't dislike him, I just don't want to get married."
Qin Zhen understood and didn't ask further.
Wen Shixue asked, "What about Vice President Qin? Do you have any plans to get married now?"
Qin Zhen replied, "No."
Wen Shixue's curiosity suddenly surged. She circled around Qin Zhen, her gaze full of scrutiny sweeping her up and down, and said with a smile, "I want to gossip a little. Has our Vice President Qin ever been in love before? What kind of man could capture the heart of the excellent and beautiful Vice President Qin?"
Would Qin Zhen be this serious when she was in love? Or would she show a girlish demeanor that made her face even more beautiful?
Curious, she was extremely curious.
Wen Shixue: Don't blame me for gossiping, because the essence of humanity is being a spectator!
Qin Zhen stood straight, letting Wen Shixue circle around her like a restless child, her high heels clicking rhythmically. This question momentarily took her back to the past, when a girl in a black lace dress had clicked down the stairs towards her, sweetly throwing herself into her arms and calling her name...
Wen Shixue's question echoed in her ears again – What kind of man could capture the heart of the excellent and beautiful Vice President Qin?
No kind of man could.
Because she didn't like men.
Qin Zhen didn't linger in that memory, leaving without a trace of hesitation. She came back to her senses and looked at the impeccably beautiful Miss Wen in front of her, reaching out to stop her, interrupting the gentle clicking sound.
Wen Shixue slightly raised her head to look at the taller Qin Zhen, and heard her say calmly, "Superiors should not casually inquire about subordinates' private lives." After saying that, she walked away.
Wen Shixue's head followed her steps, and she suddenly smiled, hugging the baseball bat – Vice President Qin must have been in love!
Wen Shixue: These eyes of mine have seen through too much.
...
On Wen Shixue and Qin Zhen's first official day at work, they held a meeting with the management. The meeting content was simple, basically allowing Wen Shixue to recognize the faces of the department heads. Wen Shixue was polite, sitting with her legs crossed in the chair and giving everyone a slight smile: "From today onwards, I ask for everyone's guidance."
The department heads responded enthusiastically.
Wen Shixue looked at so many subordinates waiting for her command, and a heavy sense of responsibility suddenly settled on her shoulders. For the first time, she clearly understood how heavy the responsibility of sitting in this position was. But it didn't matter, she would bear this responsibility well, both to break off the engagement and to change her terrible ending.
After the meeting, Wen Shixue asked the department heads to return to their positions to work. She didn't like being followed by so many people; having Vice President Qin was enough. After everyone had dispersed, Qin Zhen asked her if she wanted to go see the employees. She said no, she wanted to maintain an air of mystery.
Qin Zhen said, "I suggest President Wen go see the design department."
Wen Shixue looked back at her.
Qin Zhen said solemnly, "Zhu Ziming has now entered the design department, but he doesn't know you are his superior yet. When he finds out, he might think you were lying to him before and lose trust in you."
Wen Shixue nodded: "That's true, let's go then."
It wasn't a good thing for a subordinate not to trust their superior. If the male lead were poached later because he didn't trust her, it would be a huge loss for her. She could also take this opportunity to get a look at the people in the design department – these were the people who could help her make money and get rid of the engagement!
Qin Zhen had come to Chenfeng in advance to familiarize herself with the company, so she knew the way to each department well. Wen Shixue just needed to follow her with peace of mind, sighing inwardly as she walked, thinking how worthy Qin Zhen was of her parents' approval, having done such thorough and detailed preparatory work.
Unexpectedly, they met Zhu Ziming before they even reached the design department.
Zhu Ziming was surprised to see them at Chenfeng as well: "How come you two are here?"
Qin Zhen thought, at this point, Zhu Ziming should realize they worked here.
But Zhu Ziming asked with a sincere face, "Could it be that Master Qin is here to check the feng shui?"
Wen Shixue: "?"
Little brother, what's going on with you? Why are you expanding people's business on your own?
