Purely Accidental - Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

Outside, dusk had fallen, enveloping the sky in darkness.

Inside, the ceiling light cast a bright, rain-like glow that silently dissolved into the suddenly narrowed intimate distance between the two, illuminating Pei Youshan's stunned eyes.

It was a clumsy yet tender kiss, like pressing lips against a soft fruit jelly.

Five seconds later, Pei Youshan's mind exploded with a brilliantly colored mushroom cloud.

A surge of blood instantly flushed her fair cheeks crimson as blooming roses, radiant and delicate.

Finally snapping back to reality, she hastily pushed the person before her away, her eyes reflecting that beautiful face—her own expression flustered and at a complete loss.

This kiss had come abruptly, unexpectedly.

Most importantly...

This was fucking her first kiss!

Covering her lips with the back of her hand, she leaned back to create distance between them.

"Wh-what are you doing?!"

Xu Jingshu answered matter-of-factly: "Kissing you."

Pei Youshan's face grew hotter: "Why would you kiss me out of nowhere?!"

Xu Jingshu didn't respond immediately, instead studying her thoughtfully.

After a few seconds, she replied with utter sincerity: "I thought you were looking at me because you wanted me to take the initiative."

Pei Youshan's face blanked: "???"

"Take what initiative???"

Xu Jingshu answered seriously: "Take initiative to fulfill your needs—do what a lover should do."

Pei Youshan only required her presence when "needed."

Earlier, her gaze had been scorchingly intense. Though briefly averted, it quickly returned as if unwilling to let her go.

This led Xu Jingshu to speculate internally—perhaps this was a hint for her to make the first move?

Thus, with zero experience as a lover but upholding "professional ethics," she had directly acted.

But now, the situation clearly wasn't right.

The patron seemed to have no intention of physical contact.

In fact, she appeared somewhat... innocent.

The words "lover" and "needs" ringing in her ears, Pei Youshan suddenly remembered their current relationship and successfully synced with Xu Jingshu's wavelength—only to grow even more flustered and speechless.

She did have needs, but that wasn't what she'd meant that day!

Her face burning, she muttered: "...Ahem, that's not what I meant."

The atmosphere was too awkward.

She distracted herself by drinking water, but whenever her thoughts quieted, they uncontrollably revisited what had just happened.

Even her lips still carried the lingering softness of that touch—light, both real and unreal.

She'd been kissed...

Her embarrassment deepened instantly, wishing she could bury her entire face in the cup!

Seeing this, Xu Jingshu realized she'd misinterpreted the situation—her initiative wasted.

But Pei Youshan's exaggerated reaction made her curious: "Miss Yue, is this your first time keeping someone?"

An experienced patron shouldn't be this... easily flustered, right?

Pei Youshan's grip on her cup tightened as her mind erupted into chaos.

She'd been found out?

Just like that?

Was she that transparent?!

No—better safe than sorry. She couldn't let her little lover look down on her, thinking she was as shallow as water!

So she would—

Fake it till she made it!

She immediately smiled and waved her hand: "Of course not, I have tons of experience in this area!"

Lifting her chin proudly, she worked hard to project the confident image of a seasoned patron.

Xu Jingshu raised an eyebrow but didn't argue.

The payer was boss—if she said so, then so be it.

Thus, she continued drinking water without suspicion.

"Seasoned patron" Pei Youshan's gaze floated aimlessly, too afraid to look directly at the person beside her.

After a long silence, she finally found a topic to break the quiet: "Xu Ge... have you ever been in a relationship?"

Xu Jingshu answered without hesitation: "No."

Pei Youshan was slightly taken aback. When she turned to look, Xu Jingshu's face held the same certainty as someone stating "1+1=2."

"Then... have you ever been kept before?" Pei Youshan couldn't help pressing further.

Xu Jingshu remained just as composed: "You're the first."

And the last.

To her, this arrangement was like trying a new game—a novelty to be experienced once, never to be repeated after the thrill faded.

The words "the first" landed softly in Pei Youshan's ears. She abruptly averted her gaze to the vase on the table, internally reeling.

Shit! So that kiss was her first kiss too?!

They were both complete beginners???

But then what was with that orange flavor?

As someone who loved oranges, she couldn't help wondering.

Was it accidental, or deliberate—a way to please her as the patron?

After hesitating, she finally asked: "...Did you eat candy before coming?"

Xu Jingshu casually replied: "Mm, a friend gave me some. I ate it on the way here."

"Did Miss Yue want some? I'll bring you a few next time."

So it really was just a coincidence.

But upon reflection, even if accidental, her first kiss had been her favorite orange flavor with someone who perfectly matched her tastes—all in all... still quite wonderful!

This thought brightened her mood considerably, and she smiled: "It's fine, I was just curious."

Xu Jingshu nodded faintly and resumed drinking water.

Pei Youshan stole a few glances at her, thinking how this person always seemed unflappably calm, as if nothing in the world could faze her.

Even after they'd just shared their first kisses.

Even after being pushed away—

"Miss Yue."

Pei Youshan's thoughts were abruptly cut off by Xu Jingshu's composed voice.

"Why did you push me away earlier? Do you dislike physical contact with me?"

Pei Youshan: "?"

She was surprised.

Despite appearing utterly indifferent, she actually cared about this?

—What kind of adorable contrast was this?!

nable to resist such contrast-cuteness, Pei Youshan's gaze softened with affection.

But she saw no trace of "pitiful" in Xu Jingshu—only that same "matter-of-fact" demeanor.

As natural as a student consulting a teacher about a difficult problem.

Her heart instantly melted.

Ultimately, this was her fault as the "teacher."

She hadn't adjusted to their relationship crossing pure boundaries, reacting too slowly.

Such a small action, yet such great harm...

How tragic.

Poor Xu Ge.

So she gently patted Xu Jingshu's shoulder, worried about her fragile heart, and reassured her: "Not at all."

"It was just too sudden—I wasn't mentally prepared. But I am now, so don't overthink it."

Her tone was so warm she might as well have hugged her and maternally declared "Mommy loves you."

Hearing this answer, Xu Jingshu faintly raised an eyebrow and replied with a hint of amusement: "Alright."

She was relieved.

As long as the patron didn't dislike her—otherwise, their four-day-old arrangement collapsing over nothing would give Xu Ge endless material to tease her about.

Pei Youshan mentally categorized her as "adorable" and decided to properly explain her earlier intense gaze.

Propping her chin, she said: "Xu Ge, I like good-looking people and enjoy looking at them. And you're very good-looking—understand?"

—The patron was an appearance connoisseur.

Xu Jingshu calmly responded: "Mm, understood."

Meaning if someone more attractive appeared, she'd be replaced.

Or worse—collecting lovers like a harem, leading to infighting among them.

She'd seen such scenarios before—annoying and troublesome.

She disliked being caught in love triangles or petty jealousy.

If a game brought frustration, why play?

So she asked: "Miss Yue, do you have other lovers besides me?"

If yes, she'd "replace" this patron first.

Pei Youshan shook her head: "Just you. I'm not that promiscuous, nor do I have energy to manage multiple people."

She'd never intended to keep anyone—this was all accidental.

Besides, she'd already forgotten about Xu Ge for four days—how could she handle more?

Moreover, not everyone could match her aesthetic as perfectly as Xu Ge.

Xu Jingshu relaxed again and asked: "I haven't asked—what does Miss Yue do for work?"

Pei Youshan paused before answering: "Just a struggling writer."

She added: "My family's somewhat well-off, so finances aren't an issue. Don't worry—I can afford you."

She silently prayed Xu Jingshu wouldn't ask for her pen name.

Writing was private to her—regardless of success, she didn't want too many people knowing and invading that space.

Xu Jingshu nodded understandingly, reading the room and not pressing further.

Pei Youshan sighed in relief, grateful her lover was both beautiful and perceptive.

They exchanged WeChat contacts and, at Pei Youshan's suggestion, went out for dinner together.

Their first shared meal.

Xu Jingshu had no dietary preferences, so she let Pei Youshan order while checking her phone—even replying to a work email.

Pei Youshan skimmed the menu while sneakily observing her.

Warm yellow light illuminated Xu Jingshu's flawless profile, her long lashes casting faint shadows under her eyes.

Truly a feast for the eyes.

Pei Youshan felt thoroughly satisfied.

Visual satisfaction improved her mood—and appetite.

She became increasingly convinced that a beautiful lover truly was an "appetizing dish."

Amidst soft classical music, waiters served their dishes and discreetly withdrew, leaving them to dine undisturbed.

Xu Jingshu turned off her phone's glow and straightened up, ready to dutifully accompany her patron.

But her gaze froze on the dishes as a question arose.

Pei Youshan sipped her soup and asked: "Something wrong? Not to your taste?"

Xu Jingshu looked up slowly: "No, I was just wondering something."

Pei Youshan set down her spoon: "What is it?"

Xu Jingshu interlaced her fingers beneath her chin and said leisurely: "I don't know if Miss Yue remembers..."

"You called me an 'appetizing dish.'"

Pei Youshan: "..."

Xu Jingshu looked at her earnestly: "Miss Yue, what did you mean by that?"

It had arrived—the public humiliation!

Pei Youshan's deeply ingrained embarrassment resurfaced, making her want to sweep the table aside, smash her head against it, and vanish into the earth.

—Waaah, I'll never drink recklessly again!

The thirst for knowledge in Xu Jingshu's eyes sparkled as she smiled and called softly: "Miss Yue."

Then fell silent.

Few words, yet their meaning lingered.

Pei Youshan could almost hear her whispering teasingly: "I really want to know—won't you tell me?"

The thin-skinned Pei Youshan slowly covered her forehead, toes curling in cringe.

Suddenly realizing an overly inquisitive "student" wasn't necessarily a good thing...

Unable to withstand Xu Jingshu's enthusiasm, Pei Youshan reluctantly explained, her words dragging: "It means... you're good-looking."

Xu Jingshu: "Oh?"

Just that?

Pei Youshan: "Ahem, that you're so beautiful people could... eat more just looking at you."

Ugh, no more reckless drinking for her.

If she drunkenly spouted more nonsense like "appetizing dish"—or worse—she might as well die young.

Then she heard Xu Jingshu muse: "Ah, so that's it..."

Looking up, she saw Xu Jingshu smiling faintly before reciprocating: "Thank you. Miss Yue is also very... appetizing."

Pei Youshan: "..."

Her ears burned crimson.

"...Let's eat!"

Any more of this, and she'd dig the Forbidden City out of embarrassment!
