Purely Accidental - Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Pei Youshan returned to her room and pondered the risks of staying too long in Jinshi.
A slip of the tongue could mispronounce a name, and who knows—someone might even blurt out the wrong pinyin entirely.
The difference between "Pei" and "Yue" was vast—too vast to salvage if a mistake were made.
So she needed to wrap up her business here quickly and return to Jiang City!
With this in mind, she threw herself into accelerating her work progress and decided not to contact Xu Jingshu for the next two days, focusing instead on completing her tasks. For the first time ever, she proactively called her business partners to follow up.
She wasn’t the type to rush others, always giving ample time for consideration during negotiations.
This time… was purely an exception!
When Xu Jingshu received Pei Youshan’s message, she raised an eyebrow, then expressionlessly turned off her screen, feeling a sense of relief.
It was just as well—this gave her the perfect opportunity to conduct on-site inspections for her investment projects.
Work came first, and with such a convenient opportunity handed to her, she couldn’t be bothered to wonder why her patron wasn’t planning to see her these two days.
On her end, Pei Youshan avoided Xu Jingshu while frantically pushing forward her work. After two hectic days, both parties finally reached an agreement and formally signed the contract.
The moment she shook hands with the representative to seal the deal, Pei Youshan felt an overwhelming sense of relief, as if a weight had been lifted.
That evening, in high spirits, she made up for the postponed dinner with the representative.
The restaurant was chosen by the representative, and the female secretary who had previously tried to seduce Pei Youshan was nowhere to be seen, making for a harmonious atmosphere.
Uninterested in irrelevant people, Pei Youshan sent a couple of messages before setting her phone aside and raising her teacup with a sincere smile, toasting in place of wine.
"Mr. Fang, to a successful partnership."
……
"President Xu, please enjoy the dishes!"
"This is the best restaurant in town—the chef’s skills are exceptional!"
"If anything isn’t to your liking, please don’t hesitate to let us know!"
The liaison from the investment project team held up his wine glass, his face brimming with ingratiating smiles.
The familiar, overly eager chatter once again filled the air.
Xu Jingshu remained composed, merely lifting her eyes slightly and responding indifferently, "Thank you for your thoughtfulness."
Just as she finished speaking, her phone chimed with a notification.
[Miss Yue]: Xu Ge, I’m returning to Jiang City tomorrow.
[Miss Yue]: Focus on your work in Jinshi, but don’t forget to take care of yourself.
Xu Jingshu’s eyebrow twitched slightly.
Leaving tomorrow?
That meant she could take her time with her tasks instead of rushing through them.
—What an unexpected surprise.
Her reply came much quicker than usual.
[Xu Jingshu]: Understood. See you in Jiang City.
After sending the message, she lazily twirled the stem of her wine glass between her fingers.
Her slender wrist, well-defined fingers, and neatly trimmed nails caught the light.
Her thumb brushed lightly over her index fingertip—the edges of her nails were no longer as sharp as when freshly cut.
Lost in thought for a moment, a playful impulse suddenly struck her, and she picked up her phone again.
—[Are you free tonight, Miss Yue?]
……
Pei Youshan’s shower that evening lasted longer than usual without her realizing it.
By the time she finished blow-drying her damp, curly hair, a soft knock sounded at her door—neither too early nor too late, as if perfectly timed.
Xu Jingshu stood outside in her pajamas, waiting a few seconds before the door finally opened from within.
The sight of that moonlit face greeted her, followed by the voluminous, wavy curls that framed it, making Pei Youshan’s delicate features appear even more flawless.
Pei Youshan stood before her in an emerald-green nightgown, her eyes bright and her cheeks faintly flushed, radiating an irresistible charm.
"Come in."
Xu Jingshu stepped inside.
The door closed behind them, plunging the room into a silence so profound it felt severed from the outside world.
Pei Youshan touched her earlobe, suddenly self-conscious. "Don’t just stand there—have a seat."
Xu Jingshu nodded and obediently sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed intently on her.
Pei Youshan: "…"
She had meant the chair…
Xu Jingshu, unfazed, asked calmly, "What time are you leaving tomorrow, Miss Yue?"
Pei Youshan poured her a glass of water. "Whenever I wake up."
Xu Jingshu took the glass but set it aside, then took Pei Youshan’s hand and guided her to sit beside her. "Did you enjoy yourself these past few days?"
The sudden closeness enveloped them in the scent of Xu Jingshu’s perfume.
Pei Youshan felt her heartbeat quicken involuntarily.
"It was alright," she said. "If I didn’t get to do everything this time, I can always come back later."
"What about you? When are you returning to Jiang City?"
Xu Jingshu held her hand and answered matter-of-factly, "Once my work here is done."
Pei Youshan reminded her again to take care of herself, then fell silent.
Especially when met with those captivating eyes, any words felt like a disruption to the moment’s delicate atmosphere.
Pei Youshan pressed her lips together, then noticed Xu Jingshu lightly brushing her fingertips against her palm—the once-sharp edges now smoothed away.
"Now I won’t hurt you, Miss Yue."
Pei Youshan’s ears flushed pink.
And as her gaze shifted downward, they turned even redder.
For her. And for what was about to happen.
But this time, she didn’t refuse.
Having already agreed, there was no point in hesitating now.
Lying on her back, she clutched Xu Jingshu’s slender shoulders nervously, their eyes locked as she keenly felt every touch and the tenderness behind them.
The air conditioning hummed quietly, sending cool breezes across her skin.
Yet she didn’t feel cold. Under the gaze of those mesmerizing eyes, she burned from within.
—Her world had suddenly welcomed another presence.
Every sensitive part of her body heightened, the strange, overwhelming sensations eventually pooling into a shimmering tear at the corner of her eye.
Xu Jingshu leaned down and gently kissed it away.
A moment later, Pei Youshan suddenly gasped. "It hurts…"
Xu Jingshu immediately withdrew, pressing another kiss to the corner of her lips, concern flickering in her eyes. "What’s wrong? Does this not work for you?"
"No."
Pei Youshan reached up to touch her head, her expression pitiful.
"You’re lying on my hair…"
The mood was instantly ruined.
Xu Jingshu: "…"
It was almost laughable. But seeing Pei Youshan’s aggrieved pout as she clutched her hair, she couldn’t bring herself to complain.
Instead, she stroked her head gently, her voice soft as water.
"I’m sorry."
"Let me tie your hair up for you, alright?"
The tender tone worked like a charm on Pei Youshan, who immediately relaxed and nodded. "Okay."
……
Desire surged between them like waves, cresting into an overwhelming tide that eroded all sense of time and strength.
Pei Youshan lay limp against Xu Jingshu’s shoulder, her body weak and sticky, utterly drained from their exertions.
She murmured softly, "Xu Ge, I want to shower…"
Xu Jingshu considerately helped her up. "I’ll help you."
Pei Youshan blushed and demurred. "…You don’t need to."
"I’m just a little unsteady on my feet. Just walk me to the bathroom door."
Xu Jingshu agreed, but her hand lingered on Pei Youshan’s waist.
Pei Youshan playfully swatted it away. "It’s just a shower—no need for such thorough service."
Xu Jingshu didn’t move, watching as Pei Youshan turned toward the bathroom, her gaze inadvertently catching the sight of loose strands of hair clinging to the flawless nape of her neck, damp with sweat—an intoxicating vision.
Just as Pei Youshan was about to close the door, a hand caught her wrist.
Xu Jingshu stepped inside with an air of nonchalance.
"I’ll join you, Miss Yue."
Then she lifted Pei Youshan onto the smooth, cold surface of the vanity.
Pei Youshan: "?"
Since when was this a place for showering???
Before she could react, Xu Jingshu leaned in, their breaths mingling.
Her voice, mature and bewitching, whispered against Pei Youshan’s ear, her dark eyes brimming with undisguised desire.
"I want you again."
"Is that alright?"
"…"
Pei Youshan’s face burned anew.
She suddenly understood what people meant by "a temptress who won’t quit"…
……
After a night of passion, Pei Youshan boarded her flight back to Jiang City the next morning.
Gazing out the window at the shrinking landscape below, she lost herself in thought.
Her mind replayed every second of the previous night with her lover.
It had been her first time experiencing such intimacy, and the sensations were indescribable.
At first, it felt unfamiliar, but once they found their rhythm, her entire body had thrummed with a strange, unprecedented pleasure.
And she realized she didn’t just tolerate Xu Jingshu’s presence in her world—she craved it.
Last night, she’d even felt as if the distance between them had vanished, their bodies and hearts aligning perfectly…
The plane soared through cottony clouds, floating above an endless sea of white.
She snapped out of her reverie, lowering her head to press a hand to her forehead.
But no matter how close they’d been, it didn’t change the fact that one was now returning to Jiang City while the other remained in Jinshi—they wouldn’t see each other for a while.
Like a one-night stand, parting after a single encounter.
—Ugh, no! They weren’t a one-night stand!
Ye Qin watched as Pei Youshan suddenly smacked her own forehead.
The sound was crisp and sharp.
Ye Qin: "?"
Is my boss okay???
…
Xu Jingshu sat on the balcony of her hotel room, a tablet resting on her lap, its screen displaying a paused game.
But her mind was elsewhere, replaying the events of the previous night.
She and her patron had finally crossed that line. Though she’d taken the lead, she’d reveled in every moment—in every expression Pei Youshan had shown her.
The breathy pleas, the way she’d sought kisses—all of it was intoxicating.
Even her pouty complaints about her hair being tugged had been endearing.
Like a blazing fire, she’d ignited something in Xu Jingshu’s chest.
More captivating than any game.
Xu Ge was right.
Done well, this was the most exquisite thing in the world.
The only regret was that her adorable ragdoll had left too soon, denying them more time together…
When this thought surfaced, Xu Jingshu paused, then set the tablet aside.
She realized something.
—She was starting to crave her patron’s body.
