Purely Accidental - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
The moment the car door closed, silence enveloped them. Xu Jingshu turned her head to look at the person in the passenger seat.
The previously lively Pei Youshan had now closed her eyes, drifting into a hazy sleep.
Her long eyelashes cast faint shadows beneath her eyes, her delicate lips slightly pursed and glistening, her fair complexion appearing exceptionally gentle and well-behaved in this moment.
As Xu Jingshu gazed at her face, countless thoughts swirled in her mind, all circling around the same question.
—Do I really like her?
Her instinct was to deny it, yet she couldn't ignore the overwhelming possessiveness she felt.
If she truly didn't like her, why would she feel this way?
Why would she refuse to let Pei Youshan show the same intimacy to others?
Why would she feel upset knowing Pei Youshan disliked her?
Too many abnormal reactions left her at a loss—this was a problem she'd never encountered before, even more challenging than investment decisions.
The latter she could handle with professional knowledge and experience, but the former made her feel like a first-grader, completely clueless.
Xu Jingshu's eyes darkened as they reflected Pei Youshan's peaceful form.
Here she was, sleeping soundly, oblivious to the world, while Xu Jingshu was tormented by thoughts of her.
She shouldn't like her.
After calling off their engagement, they were no longer connected—at least not romantically.
Moreover, she resented her so much that whenever they had no contact, she'd celebrate with alcohol, indulging until she passed out drunk and carefree.
Pei Youshan...
She curled her fingers slightly, gently brushing them against Pei Youshan's lips, her expression contemplative.
Even now, she didn't understand what she'd done wrong to earn such dislike.
Was it because of that ridiculous rumor?
Could it really be that simple?
Or had she inadvertently hurt her in the past?
"Why do you dislike me so much..."
She murmured softly.
As if asking her, or perhaps herself.
Just then, Pei Youshan slowly opened her eyes, her gaze misty and unfocused.
She simply stared at her, motionless.
Xu Jingshu's heart inexplicably tightened, as if suddenly placed over a fire, unsure when the flames below would rise to consume her entirely.
In that moment, she realized one thing clearly.
—She wasn't ready for Pei Youshan to meet "Xu Jingshu," nor did she want to be discovered now.
Pei Youshan continued staring, her eyes filled with scrutiny, as if trying to see through her.
Xu Jingshu found herself inexplicably disliking this gaze, her hand still hovering as she calmly asked, "What's wrong?"
Had she figured out who she was?
As soon as she spoke, Pei Youshan parted her lips slightly and gently took Xu Jingshu's finger into her mouth.
Then... she bit down.
Xu Jingshu's expression remained unchanged, her hand unmoving.
Because it didn't hurt at all.
Like a playful kitten pretending to bite its owner, carefully controlling the pressure before soothing the spot with a lick.
When that warm, soft tongue brushed against her finger, Xu Jingshu's composure finally cracked.
Her restless heart felt as if teased by a feather—ticklish and unbearably flirtatious.
She didn't dislike it; she just wanted to know what this kitten was up to.
Was she venting frustration upon realizing her identity, or simply playing around?
If it was the former, why such a gentle bite?
"Miss Yue," she called out.
Hearing her voice, Pei Youshan released her finger, smiling with innocent sweetness before leaning over to act coquettishly: "Xu Ge... sleepy..."
Xu Jingshu exhaled in relief, affectionately ruffling her hair before helping her sit upright and fastening her seatbelt.
Her tone unconsciously softened: "Sleep for now. I'll wake you when we're home, okay?"
Even Xu Jingying, her only sister, had never received such treatment.
Pei Youshan's eyes were hazy with intoxication as she agreed softly: "Okay~"
Then she sweetly kissed her twice.
Xu Jingshu paused, utterly baffled by how everything she did could be so endearing.
So endearing that she couldn't help leaning closer to murmur: "Good girl, one more kiss."
The currently drunk Pei Youshan, with her obedience amplified, immediately obliged with two more adorable kisses.
Buy one get one free—she even threw in an extra.
Seeing her so docile and cute, the gloom Xu Jingshu felt from being resented finally dissipated somewhat, allowing her to return to her seat and start the car.
As for whether she truly liked her...
That was a question she decided to consult Blue Ocean's resident relationship expert about tomorrow.
......
Xu Jingshu carefully carried Pei Youshan to bed, tucking her in with meticulous care.
Just as she turned to leave, her hand was suddenly grabbed.
Pei Youshan held on tightly, as if unwilling to let her go, even attempting to get up and follow.
Seeing this, Xu Jingshu turned back and asked gently: "What's wrong?"
Pei Youshan declared with drunken conviction: "If I let go, you'll disappear again!"
Xu Jingshu: "?"
Disappear?
Again??
She briefly considered cracking open her skull to see what was inside right now.
Utterly intoxicated and unaware of her actions, Pei Youshan patted the bed: "So you have to stay right here with me!"
"Be good, sleep with me, no more flying away!"
This delayed yet relatively mild drunken episode left Xu Jingshu bewildered, seriously wondering if she'd been transformed into a canary in Pei Youshan's mind.
But since Pei Youshan was initiating shared sleep, she had no reason to refuse.
After all, setting aside uncertain feelings, she was still a professional canary with work ethics.
The moment she lay down, Pei Youshan immediately clung to her as if she might vanish.
Amused yet helpless, Xu Jingshu pulled her closer, whispering reassuringly: "I'm right here, I won't disappear."
With a final murmured "Mm," Pei Youshan fell deeply asleep, causing no further disturbances.
Under the bright moon, all was silent.
Xu Jingshu gazed at the woman in her arms, acutely aware of her own accelerating heartbeat.
Even after sharing a bed countless times, she couldn't disguise the flutter in her heart at this moment.
The person in her arms remained as radiant as the moon, impossible to look away from.
A restrained kiss landed gently on Pei Youshan's forehead.
"Goodnight."
Miss Pei.
Unlike before.
This time, it was involuntary.
......
The next day at Blue Ocean Capital.
Xu Ge clocked in as usual, beginning another mundane day of corporate drudgery.
But today was different—upon opening her office door, she found someone sitting in her chair.
—Leaning on one hand while absentmindedly staring at a Rubik's cube.
Xu Ge chuckled, closing the door behind her: "What brings our esteemed President Xu here so early? What, have you taken a liking to my VP position?"
Xu Jingshu's calm gaze shifted from the cube to her, ignoring the jest: "I have a question for you."
Xu Ge set down her bag and produced the Starbucks coffee she'd bought: "What question? Want some?"
Xu Jingshu declined: "It's about relationships."
Xu Ge's hand froze mid-air, taking three full seconds to process: "Well well, you've finally seen the light."
She immediately took the seat opposite her desk, brimming with curiosity: "Do tell, who's managed to stir the heart of our esteemed elder?"
Xu Jingshu set down the cube matter-of-factly: "I'm not certain if I actually like her."
Xu Ge likewise set down her coffee, smiling knowingly: "That's easy enough to determine."
"Your heart races when you see them, you feel jealous when they're with others, everything they do seems adorable."
"You can't help wanting to be near them, hold them, kiss them—maybe even go further."
"These are the most basic signs of attraction."
With each point, Xu Jingshu's expression grew more solemn.
Because every word described exactly how she acted around Pei Youshan.
So... she did like Pei Youshan.
She fell into endless silence, feeling utterly played by fate.
—Of all times to develop feelings, why after successfully calling off their engagement?
Reading her expression, Xu Ge pieced together the answer without needing words.
Some things spoke for themselves.
Now even more intrigued, Xu Ge forgot about her coffee entirely: "Who is it?"
Just who could make President Xu develop a crush?
Who possessed such formidable skills?!
She was dying to know—she'd even pay for the information!
Xu Jingshu glanced at her, answering with unexpected frankness: "My sugar mommy."
Xu Ge's eyebrows shot up: "I didn't expect you to admit it so easily."
Smirking, she added: "See? I told you—if you didn't like her, why would you play the canary role so diligently?"
Xu Jingshu remained silent.
Xu Ge encouraged: "If you like her, go for it. She's rich and gorgeous, you're rich and gorgeous, both single—perfectly matched."
Xu Jingshu massaged her temple without humor: "You're oversimplifying things."
Playing the seasoned love expert, Xu Ge drawled: "Young people, don't overcomplicate romance from the start—you'll only torture yourself."
Xu Jingshu, who'd accidentally set her romantic difficulty to nightmare mode: "..."
She fixed Xu Ge with a stare: "It's not about feelings. You're underestimating her identity."
Xu Ge: "?"
"How complicated could it be? What kind of identity haven’t we encountered by now?"
"Is she not from this planet?"
"..."
Xu Jingshu leaned back: "Her surname isn't Yue."
Xu Ge: "?"
Xu Jingshu: "It's Pei."
Xu Ge: "??"
Xu Jingshu smiled slightly: "Pei Youshan."
Xu Ge: "???"
These brief sentences contained nuclear-level revelations.
The office plunged into silence so profound even the air seemed to freeze.
Two minutes later, Xu Ge emerged from her shock.
"My apologies," she said with utmost sincerity. "I clearly haven't seen enough of the world."
