SCHS - Chapter 13
Chapter 13
Qin Zhen didn't understand why Wen Shixue would lie to Xu Jianfan about something like this, but she vaguely sensed a hint of resistance—Wen Shixue didn't want Xu Jianfan to like her, or rather, she didn't want to get involved with Xu Jianfan in terms of romantic feelings.
Wen Shixue finished the last sip of her icy-cold cola, turned to toss the empty cup into the trash, and as she turned back, she met Qin Zhen's scrutinizing gaze. Qin Zhen asked, "Why did you lie to him?"
Wen Shixue silently met her eyes, repeating the question in her mind.
Why?
Of course, it was because she had her own thoughts, her own life, and didn't want to get involved in the male and female leads' romance, becoming a humble supporting character stripped of her personality in someone else's emotional world. But she couldn't be this honest with Qin Zhen.
She took a step forward, quietly raising her hand to take the fries from Qin Zhen, her eyes holding a leisurely smile. Her moist, lovely lips parted, "Things change like a chess game; this young lady doesn't want to do something so thoughtless as breaking up a couple."
What if Xu Jianfan, the male lead, was attracted to her 'different' nature? Wouldn't that be terrible?
She had zero interest in him; she only wanted a pure working relationship. As for love—she, Wen Shixue, would thrive solo!
She bit off half a fry, smiling with exceptional innocence.
Qin Zhen was convinced by this reason and didn't ask further. But just then, a soft fry was suddenly extended towards her lips, making her pause.
Her gaze first landed on the fry, then slowly gathered on the person half a head shorter than her.
An orange lace dress with ruffled sleeves, slightly curled hair ends, smooth dark hair draped over her shoulders, a bright face, clear and sparkling eyes—she was as beautiful as a true princess. And this little princess was currently holding a fry, trying to coax her to take a bite: "Vice President Qin, want to try some?"
Qin Zhen had never been this close to someone so attractive, and it had been a long time since she was this close to another woman. It was too close, so close it felt like they could touch each other's skin at any moment, and that she could be exposed at any moment.
Awkwardness and avoidance intertwined, growing wildly like weeds, spreading frantically in her heart, causing her to instinctively take a small step back, gently creating a safe distance that allowed her to breathe.
"No, thank you," she said. "President Wen can eat it herself."
Wen Shixue watched her step back, not feeling offended, but rather very curious.
Why was Vice President Qin so resistant to physical contact?
It wasn't like she was going to eat her.
She withdrew her hand, putting the fry
into her own mouth, and asked curiously, "Vice President Qin, why are you resistant to physical contact?"
Qin Zhen looked at her steadily, "Please, superiors should not casually inquire about their subordinates' private lives."
It was that line again. Wen Shixue had heard it for the second time and couldn't help but say, "You're too serious." She thought for a moment, then sighed, "Fine, considering you're smart and capable, and you're pretty with nice hands, I forgive you."
Wen Shixue: This young lady is just too generous!
Qin Zhen: "..."
Was she supposed to thank her?
Wen Shixue finished the fries and walked back to the office contentedly, ready to continue studying and working, striving to be an excellent heir. Once Xu Jianfan completed the design, she would personally deliver it to Jiang Manwei and see if there was a chance to develop her into a long-term client.
The matter of Wen Jian being taught a lesson by Wen Shixue at his home quickly spread quietly among the senior executives. Everyone marveled at Wen Shixue's ruthlessness while discussing Wen Jian's miserable state; he hadn't appeared at the company for a week straight. However, out of consideration for Wen Changshun's reputation, everyone tacitly agreed to treat this incident as a lesson and not easily provoke the Wen family's little princess. She was someone who dared to speak and act, and no one wanted to be foolish enough to get hit by her stick.
As a result, Chenfeng had far fewer hidden enemies, and Wen Shixue was able to enjoy a few peaceful days. At least now she didn't have to worry about people from the Wen Group playing tricks to trap her.
Qin Zhen also had to admit that while Wen Shixue's move was crude, it was effective enough. However, she really hoped Wen Shixue could change one habit—
"President Wen, please stop staring at my hands," Qin Zhen said.
Wen Shixue leaned against the desk, fingers intertwined supporting her chin, her gaze fixed intently on Qin Zhen's slender, elegant hand. It was unclear if she was even listening to what Qin Zhen was teaching her.
While admiring her delicate hands, Wen Shixue asked, puzzled, "Why can't I look if your hands are pretty?"
Quite self-righteous, wasn't she? Qin Zhen said seriously, "Because now is your time to study, not your time to look at hands."
"I've absorbed it all, Vice President Qin," Wen Shixue said.
Qin Zhen maintained her slightly bent posture, pen in hand, circling key points for her. Shifting her gaze, she looked at the small cowlick on Wen Shixue's head and said, "President Wen, please look people in the eye when you're talking to them."
Let her eyes do the talking and see if she was being a little liar.
Wen Shixue moved her head, lifting her face from below. Her eyes, hidden beneath long, thick lashes, were as clear and clean as water, and her face was as flawless as ever, making one's heart flutter.
Qin Zhen couldn't help but be startled, and awkwardly straightened up, slightly pulling away.
It wasn't much when Wen Shixue had her head down, but when she lifted her head to look at her, Qin Zhen suddenly realized, as if waking from a dream, that the distance between them seemed a little too close...
It was better to just let her put her head back down. Anyway, there wasn't much written material, and those eyes didn't look like they were lying.
Wen Shixue was very accommodating and turned her head back. After a moment, she suddenly spoke, "Vice President Qin, I'm really curious why you don't like people touching you."
The more Qin Zhen avoided it, the more curious Wen Shixue became. Human curiosity was always so rebellious.
Qin Zhen lowered her eyes, "Don't be curious."
It was a reason that would make her disliked and ostracized.
Wen Shixue asked, "Will it make you very sad?"
Qin Zhen didn't hide it, "Yes, it will make me very sad."
Wen Shixue readily complied, "Then I won't ask anymore."
Curiosity satisfied up to this point was enough. She wasn't that annoying, rushing to pick at someone's wound.
Qin Zhen looked at her rare display of docility, feeling a strange mix of emotion and relief in her heart. She wondered if she had been poisoned by Wen Shixue's various outrageous actions and words on a daily basis, to the point where she felt relieved whenever Wen Shixue behaved.
Sure enough, the boss was unique; the troubles and experiences of being an assistant were different. Wen Shixue must have been sent by the heavens to test her.
Xu Jianfan pondered deeply, fully focused, and spent two weeks completing Jiang Manwei's order. He also proactively requested to go with Wen Shixue to meet Jiang Manwei to deliver the pieces, wanting to thank Jiang Manwei in person and see if she needed any modifications.
Regardless of his reasons for wanting to meet Jiang Manwei, Wen Shixue was very happy that he was getting the hang of it and knew how to be proactive—being proactive was how stories happened.
Wen Shixue: Be more proactive, quickly develop her into a girlfriend, and have her help me make money because of you—both the male and female leads should make money for me!
Qin Zhen felt a strange eagerness emanating from Wen Shixue, an eagerness that persisted until they met Jiang Manwei in person and successfully led to Jiang Manwei's misunderstanding.
The dazzling female lead finished her shoot and walked into the cafe from outside with her manager, who was holding Xu Jianfan's work. With slender fingers, she lightly brushed her smooth, wavy hair. Her gaze swept across the room and couldn't help but linger under Wen Shixue's eager eyes.
Jiang Manwei's steps paused. She had never seen a female CEO look at her with such eager eyes before; that gaze clearly held a desire different from ordinary people.
Could it be—
She understood.
She lowered her eyes, smiled knowingly, walked over and sat down. Proudly flipping her long hair, she said, "I've seen the jewelry, and I like it very much and am quite satisfied." Then, changing the subject, she added, "However, President Wen, there's something I need to say upfront."
"I, Jiang Manwei, am straight as an arrow. So, there's no possibility between us."
Wen Shixue, who was just eagerly hoping she would make money for her, subtly raised an eyebrow, and a question mark slowly appeared in her mind.
Excuse me, do the two of us... have a romantic plotline?
