Chapter 29

Chapter 29

Outside, the thunder and rain roared, pouring down all night without any sign of stopping. Inside, Wen Shixue was barefoot, clinging tightly to Qin Zhen, as if the moment she let go, a giant bolt of lightning would mercilessly strike her. She was clearly treating Qin Zhen as her life-saving straw and lightning rod.

Afraid Qin Zhen wouldn't agree, she patted her chest and promised, "I'm a very good sleeper, I definitely won't kick the covers!" After saying that, she rubbed her head against Qin Zhen's fair neck like a cat, whining softly, "Let me sleep with you, okay? I know you're the best."

It was rare for Qin Zhen to see Wen Shixue so adaptable. After two seconds of silence, she led the person back into the room, not paying attention to the change in address.

"Get on the bed," Qin Zhen said with a calm face.

Wen Shixue happily hugged her rabbit and climbed onto the bed to sit and watch her, only to see her suddenly walk out. That direction was definitely towards the side bedroom. A question mark slowly appeared above Wen Shixue's head—I came here to sleep with you, not to sleep in your room!

Hugging the rabbit, she cautiously glanced towards the world outside the door and timidly called out, "Lao Qin, where are you going?"

As soon as she finished speaking, Qin Zhen's figure appeared at the doorway, holding the cotton slippers Wen Shixue had forgotten in the side bedroom. Wen Shixue couldn't help but freeze, her gaze unconsciously drawn to Qin Zhen, following her movements.

Qin Zhen bent down and placed the cotton slippers by the bed, a hint of imperceptible helplessness surfacing in her eyes, but her tone remained calm: "The floor is cold, don't go barefoot."

Under the warm, soft lamplight, her long, raven-black hair cascaded like water from her slender, well-defined shoulders. The black tear mole beneath her eye held a subtle, gentle charm that stirred the heart, making it impossible to resist, compelling one to look a few more times until she was eternally etched in the heart.

Her heart inexplicably skipped a beat, making Wen Shixue feel even more strongly that her Vice President was unreasonably beautiful. Whether it was her face or her hands, she completely fit Wen Shixue's aesthetic.

Wen Shixue: Beautiful older sister makes the heart race!

Qin Zhen straightened up, and when she raised her eyes, she found the little white rabbit sitting on the bed staring intently at her. Those two eyes were bright, as if all the stars that had disappeared tonight were secretly hidden within them.

"Lao Qin, you're so beautiful," the straightforward Wen Shixue praised directly. Just praising wasn't enough; she had to gesture too.

Qin Zhen paused, watching as Wen Shixue suddenly straightened up, knelt on the bed, and looked at her. She even raised a slender finger to point at Qin Zhen's eye corner from a distance, her tone so sincere it made one blush: "That tear mole on your face is really too beautiful, better than anyone else I've ever seen with a tear mole!"

Qin Zhen's earlobes quietly turned a faint pink: "..."

Wen Shixue didn't notice, focusing wholeheartedly on praising her. She curved her lovely, innocent almond eyes, smiling like a flower, and concluded with heartfelt sincerity: "Lao Qin is the best-looking person I've ever seen!"

And Qin Zhen, who cared that she wasn't wearing shoes and was afraid she'd catch a cold, was even more beautiful. From the moment Qin Zhen helped her get her shoes, Qin Zhen was already the most beautiful person in the world in her heart!

President Wen: Vice President Qin is super beautiful, a feast for the eyes, I'm making a huge profit!

Qin Zhen felt that Wen Shixue was her nemesis, in every way, leaving her completely helpless.

It wasn't that she hadn't heard others praise her beauty, but no one was like Wen Shixue, who not only praised but also pointed, just like a child in kindergarten who, upon seeing something strange, must point it out to an adult, even if the adult can't see it. Moreover, Wen Shixue's tone was always too sincere, making you feel guilty if you didn't believe her, and a strange shyness would bubble up in your heart.

Her thick skin, built up over so many years, felt almost useless.

Most importantly, the best-looking person was clearly herself...

Qin Zhen felt she couldn't listen to her anymore, or she wouldn't be able to sleep tonight. So, she said without changing her expression, "You came here to sleep, not to praise me. Lie down properly."

She still had the task of looking after Wen Shixue, and she had already been touched and hugged by Wen Shixue. Her principles had long been shattered by force, so she didn't care about this instance of sharing a bed. What else could she do but accept her fate?

Wen Shixue said "Oh," and as if afraid of being kicked out, immediately twisted around and neatly burrowed into the covers, obediently sticking out her head, but her eyes still wouldn't let go of Qin Zhen, insisting on watching until she also lay down.

Qin Zhen found it amusing and said helplessly, "Are you afraid I'll run off?"

Wen Shixue nodded vigorously: "Yes." After thinking for a moment, she emphasized, "Super afraid."

Qin Zhen sighed almost inaudibly, gently lifted the covers, and lay down beside her. She turned off the light and lay on her back, not looking in Wen Shixue's direction. It had been a long time since someone had lain beside her. Suddenly having another person there felt awkward, especially since it was a woman.

A restless woman.

Sensing Wen Shixue inching closer towards her, Qin Zhen became alert and spoke in the darkness: "What are you doing?"

The thunder in the sky was endless, and raindrops pattered against the window, both noisy and peaceful. Wen Shixue gently grabbed her sleeve and leaned her head against her shoulder. Her voice sounded particularly delicate amidst the thunder and rain, like a soft whisper in her ear: "Looking for a sense of security."

Relying on a rabbit was no match for relying on a person. Now that Qin Zhen had finally agreed to sleep with her, she couldn't miss this good opportunity.

It was the first time Qin Zhen had heard of such a way of being afraid, but she didn't find it strange, because Wen Shixue had already shown her too many "firsts" all by herself. Now, no matter how strange something was, as long as it was related to Wen Shixue, it could be classified as normal.

People who are different probably do everything differently from others...

However, seeing how genuinely scared she was, Qin Zhen decided to pretend she didn't know her arm was being hugged.

Wen Shixue saw that Qin Zhen really didn't mind her pushing her luck, so she hugged her openly, grinning, "Thank you, Lao Qin, you're super great!"

Qin Zhen's response was calm: "Mm, it's late, President Wen, go to sleep quickly."

Wen Shixue was relaxed now, and hearing that address, she instinctively started to correct her: "I'm not President Wen, I'm Wen Shixue."

Since they were friends, their address should be more intimate. Calling her President Wen outside of work sounded polite and distant, which she didn't like. So, she poked Qin Zhen, signaling her to change her address.

Qin Zhen hadn't expected to be caught and corrected by her. She was silent, unsure of what to do.

Although they were friends, in the depths of Qin Zhen's heart, they were still not equal. Wen Shixue was the shining jewel in the palm of the Wen family, a precious young lady, a little princess with a happy and complete family, unlike her, who had been abandoned by her parents since childhood—they would never be the same in this lifetime.

She knew Wen Shixue was befriending her out of curiosity and for business purposes, both pure and not so pure. So she had never treated them as equals, always maintaining a distant, unequal friendship. But Wen Shixue was becoming increasingly sincere and genuine, as if she wasn't satisfied with just treating her as a business friend, but also wanted to treat her as a friend she could rely on and confide in, entrusting all her trust and closeness to her.

Having lived for so long, this was the first time she had encountered such a problem—how to be a close friend with someone who was unequal in status and not on the same age level as herself.

Wen Shixue sensed her silence and didn't know what she was thinking. She obediently hugged her arm and waited quietly for a while, but after a long time, she didn't get a response. So she couldn't help but open her mouth and ask in a low voice, "Lao Qin, are you asleep?"

Qin Zhen suddenly thought about just pretending to be asleep using this excuse until she figured out a way to resolve this conflicting feeling. Then she thought it was ridiculous; having lived for over thirty years, this was the first time Qin Zhen was using such a childish method of avoidance. It was truly thanks to this child, Wen Shixue.

Wen Shixue didn't hear her voice and mistakenly thought she was asleep. She muttered softly, "She actually fell asleep while talking to me, this is too..."

Qin Zhen couldn't help but listen intently, ready to hear if this child was going to secretly say bad things about her.

"...too cute!" Wen Shixue exclaimed, controlling her volume.

If someone else did this, she might not find it cute, but when this happened with the serious, peerlessly beautiful Vice President Qin, it produced a strange sense of cuteness that she found unreasonably adorable.

President Wen: I am a nationally renowned double-standard user! So what! [Righteously.JPG]

Qin Zhen: "..."

She was defeated.

She sighed inwardly in resignation: "I'm not asleep."

Wen Shixue paused, no longer suppressing her volume. Instead, she wrapped her arm around Qin Zhen's and frowned, "If you're not asleep, why aren't you talking?"

Qin Zhen replied, "I was thinking about how to answer you."

She had thought for a long time and still didn't know what to call her, so she had to return the question to her. Since she couldn't avoid it, she might as well resolve it cleanly. It was rare for the child to be so enthusiastic about making friends; she shouldn't discourage her or pour cold water on her.

She asked, "What does President Wen want me to call you?"

It was the first time Wen Shixue had encountered a friend asking her such a question. After a moment's thought, she figured it was probably because it was Qin Zhen's first time making a friend seven years younger than herself, so she wasn't used to it. Thus, she didn't answer directly but asked in return, "What do you want to call me?"

She was quite curious to know if Qin Zhen had a special address for her in her heart.

Qin Zhen clearly had no ideas.

Wen Shixue wasn't disappointed; this was perfectly normal for Qin Zhen. So she leaned against Qin Zhen's shoulder, thinking while giving suggestions: "Hmm... Wenwen? Shishi? Xuexue?" Her tone became increasingly cheerful.

Qin Zhen: "..."

Was she starting again?

Just as she suspected, Wen Shixue's playful side had resurfaced. She continued with interest, "Baby Xue? Little Xuexue? Universe-class excellent, number one intelligent and clever business genius Little Xue'er?"

The names got longer and more ridiculous.

Qin Zhen knew she couldn't indulge this free spirit any longer, so she had to interrupt her, her voice low and helpless, filled with an unconscious mature charm: "Shixue."

Wen Shixue's voice stopped abruptly.

"Sleep," Qin Zhen said.

Wen Shixue looked in Qin Zhen's direction, as if she had discovered a treasure, and kept watching. That single "Shixue" came suddenly but resonated in her heart, making her heart feel empty for a moment, only finding it exceptionally pleasant to hear.

She didn't understand why everything Qin Zhen did was so good? Even calling her name was so pleasant it made her heart itch, making her like her immensely.

She said with a beaming smile, "I like it when you call my name, it sounds really good."

"I'm very satisfied. Goodnight, Lao Qin, have a good dream!"

She never hid her liking; her personality was straightforward and she said what she thought. Although Qin Zhen found her helpless, she had to admit that interacting with her was actually very comfortable. There was no need to rack her brains trying to guess or figure things out, and she was cute enough that it was impossible to dislike her.

Thinking of this, Qin Zhen couldn't help but wonder what kind of man she would find to marry in the future, and what kind of man would be worthy of her.

He should be a very outstanding and brilliant man.

All around was silent, with only the sound of the thunder and rain. After a while, the breathing of the person beside her became completely calm; she had already fallen asleep. Qin Zhen remained silent for a moment before closing her eyes as well.

Forget it, no matter who the other person is, when they get married, she'll just give a large wedding gift.

The rest... had nothing to do with her.
