DDT - Chapter 24
Chapter 24: School Tyrant × The Pushover (1)
Chi Junluo awoke in a classroom. A piece of chalk, thrown by the teacher, struck her black hair with pinpoint accuracy, leaving a white mark.
Still momentarily dizzy from traversing worlds, Chi Junluo froze when the chalk hit her. She could feel that this body was slumped over a desk, but because she had just arrived, her soul hadn't fully merged with its host. This left her temporarily unable to control the body perfectly. Despite exerting immense effort, she couldn't lift her head. Thwack. Another piece of chalk flew over and hit her on the head. "Chi Junluo!" the woman on the podium roared angrily. "Get on your feet! How dare you sleep in my Chinese class! You're getting bolder and bolder!" The female Chinese teacher's eyes were wide with fury, her voice piercing the students' ears. A few of them quietly rubbed their ears.
The Chinese teacher for their class was named Wang, and she was famous throughout the grade for her explosive temper. She had likely spent decades practicing her chalk-throwing attack in the classroom; every piece she threw had a 99% accuracy rate.
Besides her chalk-throwing attack, Teacher Wang also possessed an incredible jumping ability.
Teacher Wang was no taller than 1.55 meters, yet she could leap straight up from a standing position and viciously smack the head of a 1.85-meter-tall male student with the book in her hand. Every strike was precise, guaranteed to leave red welts on the boy's head. Although some students were defiant, none dared to talk back to her. After all, being sent to the dean's office and having your parents called was no laughing matter.
After a few seconds of buffering, Chi Junluo finally gained control of this new body. She didn't yet know her identity in this world, what she needed to do, or what her persona was. But upon opening her eyes and finding herself in a classroom, it was clear she had been too busy wrestling with her new body to notice Teacher Wang's high-decibel roar.
"Chi Junluo! Stand up! Come to the front!" Teacher Wang was so angry her glasses were about to slide off her nose.
Belatedly hearing her name, Chi Junluo finally reacted. As the eyes of the entire class focused on her, even someone as thick-skinned as Chi Junluo couldn't help but blush.
Apparently, she had fallen asleep in class, earning this lady's displeasure. >_<
Chi Junluo hesitated for a second, deciding to cross that bridge when she came to it. She would walk up first and see what tricks this teacher had up her sleeve.
However, just as she took a step away from her desk, a sharp pain shot through her mind, as if something was being forcibly stuffed into her brain. Before Chi Junluo could even react, or even curse, her legs gave out and she collapsed to the floor.
Her body hit the ground with a dull thud, startling the teacher and students.
A few timid girls gasped, "Ah!" and covered their mouths.
The two girls next to Chi Junluo were also badly frightened.
"She's not dead, is she?" one of the timid girls was on the verge of tears.
"What kind of nonsense are you spouting? A dog's mouth can't spit out ivory," another girl snapped, scolding her. "Chi Junluo probably just fainted. What are you waiting for? Help her up and take her to the infirmary!" the girl commanded bossily.
"Why don't you do it? All you know is how to order people around," the girl sitting next to Chi Junluo muttered defiantly under her breath.
"Do you want Sister Chi to wake up and find out you didn't help her, that you just let her lie on the floor? We'll see if you can walk out of school in one piece after class," the bossy girl said with a disdainful eye-roll.
"You!" The complexions of the girls around Chi Junluo paled slightly. Only then did they reluctantly go to help up the big shot who had fallen on the floor.
Teacher Wang was also startled, her heart leaping into her throat. The last thing she wanted was to throw a piece of chalk in class, cause a student to die suddenly, and lose her stable job.
Chi Junluo: Why does everyone seem to want me dead???
Two girls each took one of Chi Junluo's arms, lifted her from the floor, and began dragging her toward the infirmary. Fortunately, while Chi Junluo was tall, she wasn't heavy, so it was only a slight struggle for the two of them.
Chi Junluo woke up on a small bed in the infirmary, the air thick with the smell of disinfectant. A thick, white medical blanket was draped over her, and an IV was hooked up to her right hand. A clear liquid dripped steadily from a transparent bag, flowing through the tube and into her body.
Chi Junluo's expression was a bit dark. She expressed her displeasure to the Heavenly Dao in her sea of consciousness.
Chi Junluo: Heavenly Dao, why did you just shove things into my head without warning?!
The Heavenly Dao sounded aggrieved. This Deity forgot you're not the Zombie King anymore. I didn't remember you're just an ordinary person. Seeing as you were about to be called to the podium, what if you did something out of character? Wouldn't our cover be blown? So as soon as This Deity gathered information about this world, I couldn't wait to pour it into you so you could handle the situation calmly... sob sob!
"Enough!" Chi Junluo cut off the Heavenly Dao's dreadful whimpering with a headache and began to sort through the new information in her mind.
The original owner of this body, Chi Junluo, was a school tyrant at Qingshui High School. Her parents were divorced; her mother had taken her younger brother and left, leaving her behind with her alcoholic father. Because of the divorce and her father's frequent abuse, Chi Junluo's middle school exam results were poor, and she could only barely get into the city's infamous Qingshui High. As she processed the rest of the information, Chi Junluo's expression grew even fouler.
"Heavenly Dao, what grade am I in now?" Chi Junluo asked with a frown.
"...Can This Deity choose not to answer? Will you kill This Deity if I tell you? Sob sob." The Heavenly Dao cowered in a corner of her sea of consciousness, feigning weakness.
"I'm a senior, aren't I?" Seeing the Heavenly Dao's hesitant demeanor, Chi Junluo naturally guessed the answer.
It wasn't that Chi Junluo was speechless for no reason. Unlike the previous apocalyptic world, which was severely broken, this world was perfect and intact. Every character's lifeline was complete, and on the ever-extending world timeline, some people's lines were long, while others were short. This made it convenient for the Heavenly Dao to hide outside the timeline and secretly gather vast amounts of data.
And among the world information the Heavenly Dao had collected in her mind, one piece was about her. Her lifeline ended after the college entrance exams.
That was why Chi Junluo was so anxious to know what grade she was in.
She was now a senior, with only six months until the college entrance exams...
In other words, in this world, she only had half a year to complete her mission and collect the Power of the Heavenly Dao! This wasn't the apocalypse; where was she supposed to find so many damsels in distress to save?!
There were no zombies, no thugs.
Chi Junluo: You're asking the impossible of me!
The Heavenly Dao pouted but said nothing.
Next, Chi Junluo scanned the information related to Yi Shuhan.
The heroine of this world was a super-beautiful, second-generation rich girl from an incredibly wealthy family.
"Doesn't seem too bad," Chi Junluo muttered, nodding to herself in approval. The heroine of this world seemed to be doing quite well for herself.
Now, here was the problem. According to the Heavenly Dao's analysis, this world's Power of the Heavenly Dao was located in the heroine's right hand.
"Heavenly Dao, is the Power of the Heavenly Dao in a different place in every world?" Chi Junluo was a little surprised. She had assumed it would always be in the same spot, but she never expected it to change!
What if, in the future, the Power of the Heavenly Dao ended up somewhere inappropriate? Wouldn't that be mortifying!
About half an hour later, the curtain separating the beds was pulled aside, and a beautiful doctor in a white coat walked in. With a few deft movements, she removed the needle and tape from Chi Junluo's hand.
Chi Junluo dangled her legs over the side of the bed for a while. Once the bleeding on the back of her hand stopped, she finally couldn't resist standing up.
"I'll be going then," Chi Junluo said, mimicking the original owner's arrogant tone. After a simple farewell to the infirmary doctor, she walked out.
By now, lunchtime and the noon break were over. Students were returning to their classrooms in twos and threes. Chi Junluo had received a lot of IV fluids and decided to make a trip to the restroom first.
Most of the students were back in their classrooms, leaving the hallways empty. Only a school tyrant had the privilege of wandering around outside during class time.
Whoever designed the academic building at Qingshui High had a strange idea. The boys' and girls' restrooms were on separate floors. For example, there was no restroom on the first floor, a girls' restroom on the second, a boys' on the third, a girls' on the fourth, and a boys' on the fifth.
This bizarre restroom setup was a frequent source of complaints from the students. The breaks between classes were already short, and students had to race against time, running up and down stairs to get to the restroom. If you were unlucky, you'd have to wait in line.
As a result, it was common for the bell to ring before a student even got their turn. The poor kids could only hold it and wait for the next break.
Regardless of whether other students had successfully secured a good stall, it was class time now, so the restroom should be empty.
With that thought, Chi Junluo quickened her pace toward the fourth-floor girls' restroom.
Before she even reached it, Chi Junluo faintly heard some strange noises coming from inside. Puzzled and curious, she lightened her footsteps and crept toward the restroom entrance.
Chi Junluo frowned. She finally understood why the sounds she'd heard were so faint. Someone had closed the door. The chattering voices of girls drifted from inside. Chi Junluo reached out to push the door but found it was bolted from within.
"Fuck you," a girl's voice, laced with vulgarity, floated through the crack in the door. "You little bitch, so what if your family has a little stinking money? So what if you're a bit better looking? What's so fucking great about you?"
"Yeah, yeah, and you dared to wear GUCCI to school today. Look at you, showing off. Hurry up and take that fucking thing off. It's an eyesore to us sisters," another girl chimed in.
"Yi Shuhan, don't be a bitch when we're trying to be nice! Jiao Jiao, splash her!" the foul-mouthed girl ordered.
"Heavenly Dao! Did I hear that right? Did she just say Yi Shuhan? The heroine?" Chi Junluo was in disbelief. How could Yi Shuhan be locked in the restroom during class? From the sounds of it, the situation inside was not good!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Without a second thought, Chi Junluo started pounding on the door.
