TIMO - Chapter 90
Chapter 90
“What are you two…” Fu Wanqing rubbed her temples, her gaze shifting back and forth between them. She truly couldn’t think of a word to describe these two twenty-eight-year-olds who had secretly gotten married without telling their parents. After much thought, she finally squeezed out a sentence.
“Adolescent girls who steal their family’s ID cards to get married?”
Fu Zhao shot up from the swing chair with a “swoosh,” looking flustered at the two parents who seemed to have come to hold them accountable. She stammered a greeting, then exchanged a glance with Shi Nan before speaking.
“How… did you find out?”
“How did we find out?” Shi Xinglan raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms and looking at them leisurely. “It’s all over the StarNet. Century Transition Day was so lively, and the Registration Office was so crowded. Did you think no one would recognize you two?”
Reminded by Shi Xinglan, Fu Zhao finally realized. She could only part her lips, her voice turning sheepish.
“Oh, so that’s how.”
“We didn’t mean to not tell you. It was just an impulsive decision at the time, and then we… forgot.”
“Forgot?” Fu Wanqing said calmly. “In five days, it never occurred to you that you hadn’t told your parents you got married.”
“So what were you two doing for those five days?”
That was truly a difficult question to answer.
Fu Zhao pressed her lips together, taking a light breath to calm herself. She was about to find an excuse to explain when Shi Xinglan cut her off.
“No need to say anything.” Shi Xinglan waved her hand, her gaze falling on a book placed to the side. She exchanged a thoughtful look with Shi Nan, studying her for a moment before smoothing her furrowed brow and speaking in a heartfelt tone.
“In any case, you’re already married. We won’t stop you from doing anything.”
“Next, let’s start preparing for the wedding.”
As Shi Xinglan spoke, Fu Zhao followed her gaze and saw the large characters printed on the book’s cover. She also saw the meaningful looks from Fu Wanqing and Shi Xinglan, and Shi Nan, who looked serene and had no intention of explaining anything.
Her face burned. She wanted to explain, but she didn’t know how, because it was, indeed, the truth.
“Alright.” Fu Wanqing silently averted her gaze, clearing her throat to change the subject. “Have you chosen a date for the wedding?”
“Not yet,” Shi Nan replied, her eyes flickering slightly. “We originally wanted to discuss it with you both before making a decision, but then… we unexpectedly ran into an accident, so we didn’t have the chance.”
In just a few words, Shi Nan used the excuse of an “accident” to explain the current situation, which also helped to quell some of Fu Wanqing’s and Shi Xinglan’s anger.
“Then let’s make it the 4th of next month,” Fu Wanqing said gently. “On the way back, President Shi and I already discussed it. It’s a good day.”
“The beginning of next month…”
Fu Zhao pursed her lips and looked at Shi Nan. “Won’t that be a bit too rushed?”
“And the guests… I’m not sure if there will be enough time to make arrangements.”
She was talking about that good friend of Shi Nan’s.
She didn’t know if that friend would have time to make arrangements by the beginning of next month, and it seemed Shi Nan really wanted that friend to attend their wedding.
Just what kind of friend was it?
So important to Shi Nan, yet she had no impression of them at all.
At this thought, Fu Zhao pushed aside the complicated thoughts in her mind and looked at Shi Nan. Shi Nan’s lowered lashes trembled slightly as she said softly,
“Let’s do it next month.”
“If the guests can come, they will definitely make it in time.”
The 4th arrived as scheduled.
Their wedding ultimately followed the details of that planning proposal.
Fu Zhao had later examined the proposal carefully-the design of the opening, the choice of background music, the surprise video, Ye Er and Jiang Wenqing’s congratulatory duet, the group photo, and the game segments.
It all met her expectations perfectly.
This proposal was like a gift from the heavens, somewhat unbelievable, yet filled to the brim with surprises.
At the very least, because of this proposal, her and Shi Nan’s wedding became even more perfect.
And even more fittingly, the weather that day was beautiful.
Just as she and Shi Nan stood face to face, the golden sunlight reflected in Shi Nan’s tear-filled eyes, making them sparkle brilliantly.
In a daze, she suddenly felt that it wasn’t spring.
It was like that early summer, the early summer when she and Shi Nan had reunited time and time again.
After watching Shi Nan’s departing back so many times, this time, Shi Nan was walking towards her, wearing a light, vintage-style lace wedding dress. Her slender arms gently lifted the hem of her skirt, and her fair skin was translucent and captivating under the brilliant sun, as if it were glowing.
A gentle breeze brushed through her hair, curling a few strands.
Her curled lashes shimmered with glistening tears.
Tender and beautiful.
Just like every time their eyes had met before.
But this time, seated below the stage were all their friends and family. Amidst everyone’s blessings, they walked towards each other.
Fu Zhao’s eyes were also brimming with tears, but the corners of her mouth lifted into an unconscious smile, wider than any smile she had ever shown before.
It was a sense of satisfaction that emanated from the bottom of her heart.
This feeling of satisfaction lasted all the way to the wedding vows, the part of the ceremony everyone was most focused on.
Fu Zhao’s gaze swept around the venue before finally landing on Shi Nan’s eyes. She closed her eyes, took a light breath to calm herself, and then began to speak, her voice trembling uncontrollably.
“Actually, I’m not very good at things like giving speeches in public. So when I was writing my vows, I kept thinking I should write something simple, very simple, so I wouldn’t have to say much.”
“But now…” Warmth welled up in her eyes, and her voice trembled even more. “I don’t even know what I’m saying. In short, I’ve completely forgotten the vows I memorized hundreds of times.”
“So, what I’m about to say is all improvised. It might, it might not have much logic. Just… just listen, because I don’t know what I should be saying right now either.”
She finished her preamble with a shaky voice, and the audience broke into gentle laughter. The tears in Shi Nan’s eyes also flickered a few times before receding. Her eyes curved into a smile, and she looked at her with gentle warmth, waiting quietly for her to finish.
Fu Zhao stared intently at Shi Nan, her vision slowly filling with tears.
“Shi Nan… we must have known each other for a very, very long time, and I’ve liked you for a very, very long time. I always thought… that you and I would never have any connection.”
“Like two parallel lines that would never intersect.”
“Because the time and place we met were far from perfect. Back then, I was cowardly and timid, while you were bright and confident. We seemed like people from two completely different worlds.”
“That’s what I used to think, too.”
“But now, I understand that as long as it’s the right person, it doesn’t matter if you meet at the wrong time. Because the long passage of time is always far more romantic than I imagined, and it will close the distance between us.”
“And you, too, are far more wonderful than I ever imagined.”
“Passionate, gentle, sincere, brave… It’s as if all the beautiful adjectives in this world were created just for you.”
“You’ve made me have countless selfish thoughts. I want to spend every year, every day and night with you. I want your eyes to look only at me.”
“I want Shi Nan to be just my Shi Nan.”
The more she spoke, the more tears filled her eyes, almost overflowing. Finally, with a choked voice, she delivered her last vow. “Most importantly, you made me understand…”
“Parallel lines may never intersect, but as long as they are not on the same plane, they can have a chance to overlap.”
“I hope that our two parallel lines can have their paths overlap forever, sharing in each other’s joys and sorrows.”
“I will continue to love you with all my heart, until death do us part.”
As her voice fell, the tears she had been holding back finally escaped from her eyes.
Honestly, she had never been one to cry easily.
But in front of Shi Nan, it seemed she had cried many times.
But to cry like this, fully conscious and uncontrollably in front of so many people, was a first for her.
The same was true for Shi Nan, who stood facing her.
In this public setting, they had completely shed their former selves, wanting only to follow their hearts and their feelings.
Their private exchange of gazes was only broken when the wedding officiant reminded Shi Nan that it was her turn to say her vows.
“Fu Zhao…”
A soft call, thick with nasality and a sob that escaped from her throat.
Fu Zhao looked up at Shi Nan.
Shi Nan’s eyes were filled with tears, her eyelids red. She raised a hand to wipe away the teardrops at the corner of Fu Zhao’s eyes, then lowered her lashes, composing herself slightly before speaking softly, responding to her vows word by word.
“You should know that we were destined to love each other, because there are so, so many things in this world that only the two of us know. That uniqueness alone is enough to prove that we were meant to be each other’s special one.”
“I really… don’t know what to say to express my feelings for you. Looking back now at the moments when those stories happened, I feel endlessly grateful. Because I know that the unfolding of these stories was much more hard-won than you or I can imagine.”
“I am also incredibly thankful that you could appear in my life again and again. You are the most wonderful person in my eyes-sincere, kind, considerate… a kind of wonderful that no adjective in this world can describe.”
“Because I know clearly that in our overlapping stories, every moment I stand with you, I feel my own strength is incomparably vast.”
“You make me feel like I’m an omnipotent person.”
“It will be the same in the future. You will still be the most special person in the world to me. I will be your Shi Nan, and you will be my Fu Zhao.”
“To have had the fortune to meet you, reunite with you, fall in love with you, and know you… has always been the most romantic thing to me.”
“I will always, just like now…”
“Love you faithfully, completely, and omnipotently.”
She finished her vows with a sob, responding to every line in Fu Zhao’s. By the last sentence, her eyes were already brimming with tears. As if remembering the results of all the previous resets, she spoke with a trembling voice.
“Even death cannot do us part.”
