DDT - Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Zombie King × Little White Flower (21)

Yi Shuhan was utterly baffled, and so were the zombies.

Yi Shuhan: Allow me to just say, what the actual fuck!

This was the first time she had ever been surrounded by so many zombies. Rotting chunks of flesh hung precariously from their faces and bodies, their skin was a sickly gray-green, and the acrid stench that assaulted her was simply nauseating. Even after more than a year in the apocalypse, she still couldn't stomach the disgusting aspects of the zombies.

Forcibly suppressing the urge to vomit, Yi Shuhan held her breath, not daring to move an inch. She quietly observed the horde that had surrounded her but made no move to attack.

She remembered what Chi Junluo had said before she left. Could it be that these zombies weren't attacking her because of the mental power Chi Junluo had left for her?

The zombies were somewhat puzzled. The person before them looked edible, yet why did they feel no desire to consume her?

The level-4 zombie was already beginning to show signs of intelligence. It swung its claws, aiming straight for Yi Shuhan's head. Edible or not, it would crack open her skull and take a look first.

The level-4 zombie was fast. Before Yi Shuhan could react, she could only stare blankly as a claw stained with dried blood swiped toward her face.

When the claw was still twenty centimeters from Yi Shuhan, it stopped abruptly, as if it had hit an invisible wall. This wall even had a rebound effect, sending the level-4 zombie flying backward. The powerful impact knocked down a large swath of innocent zombies.

Unbeknownst to Yi Shuhan, a powerful pressure unique to the Zombie King emanated from the dense mental power, and the zombies at the front suddenly went weak in the knees and knelt.

The level-4 zombie stared at the human before it in horror. After sensing the Zombie King's pressure, it immediately turned and fled without a second thought. The zombies on the periphery scattered in escape.

Seeing the horde of zombies vanish in an instant, Yi Shuhan finally understood the power Chi Junluo had spoken of.

It was truly formidable!

One could imagine that Chi Junluo was practically invincible in this apocalypse.

Yi Shuhan tightened her grip on the fire axe and walked in the direction the cars had gone. Just as she rounded a corner, she saw a group of zombies swarming the vehicles, completely blocking them in.

The people in the cars were resisting with all their might. The team leader's spatial ability continuously tore at the zombies' bodies, but the zombies knew no fear and no fatigue. As one wave fell, another took its place. Looking closely, there was even a zombie floating in the air—at least level-5, a high-level zombie!

The zombies pounded on the car doors, and the vehicle frames were already starting to dent, a testament to the destructive power of the horde.

Yi Shuhan frowned. As she watched the besieged cars, a sense of satisfaction unexpectedly rose within her!

This was unprecedented!

She never thought she would have a day where she took pleasure in others' misfortune. A thought even surfaced from the bottom of her heart, wishing for the women in the car to die quickly.

Serves them right.

Yi Shuhan cursed them gleefully in her mind.

Who told them to push her into the zombie horde? Wasn't this life-threatening situation the very consequence of their own actions?

Yi Shuhan wanted to clap and cheer. Heaven knew how desperate and shocked she had been in the moment she was pushed into the horde!

Her past self had been too much of a saint. She always thought of others first, always trusted people too easily, and was always quick to leave her greatest vulnerability—her back—exposed to others.

Now it seemed that in the apocalypse, people's hearts were truly unpredictable. No matter how well Yi Shuhan treated others, all she got in return was a push off a cliff.

For the first time, a dark glint flashed through Yi Shuhan's bright eyes.

She had originally planned to stand by and watch, but then she remembered she still had to get to H City. And most importantly, she didn't know how to drive! Damn it!

"Fine, I'll spare you this once." Yi Shuhan would never admit that her heart had softened a little. However, she understood that those who deserved to pay a price must first pay it.

The bed of the pickup truck was about to be overrun. Even though the vice-captain was wielding an automatic rifle enhanced by her fire ability, and her marksmanship was good enough to kill one zombie per shot while her ability whipped out to take down another, it wasn't enough to hold back the endless tide of zombies. The vice-captain and another woman were struggling to hold on. They were in the most danger, being in an open truck bed without the protection of glass and a frame. A zombie could climb up at any moment.

Just as she had that thought, the vice-captain felt a searing pain in her arm. She froze. In that brief moment of distraction, a zombie had climbed up from the left and bitten her arm fiercely.

She abruptly raised her gun and killed the zombie. Blood gushed from her arm, and her face turned pale.

Pale with fright.

With a "crack," the window of the lead SUV made a crisp sound as a fracture rapidly spread across it. The female captain fell into despair.

Suddenly, the zombies receded like a tide, moving away from the vehicles. Just as everyone was wondering what was happening, they saw Yi Shuhan walking over slowly, carrying a fire axe like a deity descending from the heavens. With every step she took, the zombies retreated a step, until she reached the front of the car, at which point the zombies scattered like birds and beasts, all of them running away.

The female captain looked up at the level-6 zombie flying in the sky. It hesitated for a moment, then immediately flew away.

Happiness had come too suddenly. She wanted to cry!

Having escaped death, the female captain's tears fell uncontrollably.

The vice-captain was also stunned. How could they have known that this Yi Shuhan was an ability user, and a powerful one who could repel zombies at that!

She was practically a treasure!

The vice-captain was filled with regret. If she hadn't pushed her just now, would she have been bitten by a zombie?!

Seeing that all the zombies were gone, the captain got out of the car and thanked her profusely.

Yi Shuhan nodded coolly, indicating that she wanted to continue on their way. The female captain nodded, adopting a "you're the boss" attitude.

"Oh, right. The vice-captain was bitten by a zombie. She'll probably turn in a little while. Should we deal with her on the spot, or let her fend for herself?" Yi Shuhan asked the captain with considerable indifference.

Bitten?!

Everyone turned to look at the vice-captain. Seeing the blood indeed flowing from her arm, several people grew agitated.

"Vice-captain, you should just go on your own. We don't want to have to kill you ourselves later," the women chattered.

The vice-captain's face was ashen. With a look of utter despair, she ultimately chose to leave on her own.

The captain's heart was filled with mixed emotions. In the end, she cleared out the back seat of the SUV for Yi Shuhan to rest, and everyone got in the cars and continued toward H City.

Two months later.

News that shocked the entire nation spread from H City.

H City had successfully developed an antiviral agent!

The H City research center named the antiviral agent "Hope."

It was said that the development of this agent had been stuck at a critical point, which led H City to broadcast a nationwide call for talent in bioengineering.

Rumor had it that the successful development of the "Hope" reagent was greatly connected to the daughter of the world-renowned Mr. Yi Mingchang. It was said that his daughter, Yi Shuhan, had made an indispensable contribution to the creation of "Hope."

For a time, a wave of star-chasing swept the nation. Only this time, the star they were chasing was the apocalypse celebrity, Yi Shuhan.

The "Hope" reagent could effectively kill the zombie virus and could also be injected directly, lowering the zombie infection rate to just ten percent. Unfortunately, it could only be used on ordinary people, because if an ability user took it, their abilities would completely disappear. No ability user was willing to give up their powers.

However, this also became a new and effective means for bases to manage ability users. Any ability user who maliciously caused trouble or committed murder would be arrested by the base and injected with the reagent, causing them to lose their powers. In the apocalypse, this was the greatest punishment of all.

After more than two months, everything on Chi Junluo's side was ready.

She covered the entire country with her vast mental power, using the will of the Zombie King to summon zombies from all over to advance on H City.

The mass exodus of zombies terrified bases of all sizes. After several days of studying the zombies' routes, the leaders of various bases received news. Experts concluded that the zombies were heading for the H City Base!

The H City Base naturally learned of this as well. The higher-ups felt a massive headache coming on: Damn it all! Are zombies this smart now? They must know H City developed the cure, so now they're coming to attack!

H City sent out an urgent request for support. With lives at stake, who knew which base would be the next to fall if they didn't annihilate the zombie horde this time?

The saying "if the lips are gone, the teeth will be cold" was never more apt, and everyone understood this principle.

The H City Base publicly released the formula for the "Hope" reagent. Several bases began production simultaneously. Numerous helicopters and fighter jets were readied, the reagent was loaded into mist-spraying devices, and everything was set. All they had to do was wait for the zombies to make their long journey.

All the major bases were waiting for the appearance of the king who could command all the zombies in the country. At that moment, that very Zombie King, Chi Junluo, was leisurely driving a black RV, slowly following the zombie procession toward H City.

The zombies marched for a month, passing by many small bases and survivor settlements. The sheer number of zombies in the horde terrified the poor souls they encountered. However, the horde ignored these tempting morsels right at their doorstep and continued on their way.

Five days later, a dense mass of zombies gathered outside the H City Base, surrounding it completely. The people inside the base were terrified. Ordinary people hid inside, trembling, while ability users stood ready on the city walls. If the zombie horde made any unusual moves, they would fight with all their might.

Chi Junluo drove her vehicle brazenly to the gates of the H City Base. Just as people were wondering who could drive through the zombie horde so unscathed, the RV slowly came to a stop at the main gate. The door opened, and a woman with a graceful figure stepped out.

With a wave of her hand, Chi Junluo enveloped the RV in a massive shield of mental power.

Then, under the watchful eyes of everyone, including the core forces of several bases, she floated into mid-air.

The leaders of the bases: ??? Who is this person! I want her file!

Chi Junluo seemed to have guessed their thoughts. With another wave of her hand, the entire zombie horde took several steps forward in unison.

Now, everyone understood. This was the goddamn Zombie King!

"Wooo-wooo-wooo!!!" The base's alarms blared instantly. Countless dark gun barrels aimed at Chi Junluo.
