DEG - Chapter 22
Chapter 22: Are You Disgusted?
What was the Eldest Miss doing?!
She was already pretending not to hear.
Did the Eldest Miss have to make things so difficult for her?
Sob...
How had it come to this-her marrying me?
Lying in bed, Jiang Xun was completely stunned when she first heard the news.
She had never considered that a living person marrying a dead one was legally prohibited.
Because she knew that as long as the Eldest Miss wanted something, she had countless ways to achieve her goal.
So why did Luo Nanqiu want to marry her?
At the very beginning, Jiang Xun could still force herself to find some comfort.
The Eldest Miss was just having a traumatic stress reaction. Since she couldn't claim Jiang Xun's remains, she just wanted a legal connection to her.
That way, the two of them would be the closest they could be, whether emotionally, legally, or even in the eyes of the world.
But just as that logic began to take hold, the Eldest Miss's subsequent series of self-revelations completely fried Jiang Xun's brain.
This... this... how was she supposed to explain this to herself?
Was this really something she was supposed to be hearing?
Jiang Xun was in disbelief.
Jiang Xun decided to play dead.
As long as she didn't know, they could still have a pure and innocent best friendship.
But Eldest Miss!! Why did you have to shove the truth in my face?
"Don't you like it?" Luo Nanqiu asked softly.
Her tone was gentle and soft, but Jiang Xun felt a hint of madness behind it.
The self-destructive "I'll die if you don't like me" vibe grew even stronger.
Only now did Jiang Xun realize that Luo Eighteen was right.
The Nanqiu of today... was a little crazy.
Jiang Xun didn't say whether she liked it or not.
When she was contemplating a difficult problem, her expression would unconsciously tense up.
Under the cold moonlight, her gray eyes appeared somewhat inorganic, like emotionless yet perfectly clear crystals.
It made her entire being look like a deadly weapon that had just tasted blood, radiating a cold aura.
"I think you just miss me too much."
Jiang Xun gently blew on the red mark on Luo Nanqiu's wrist, her voice softening unconsciously.
"If I were the one who lost you," Jiang Xun said, looking up at her seriously.
"I would go crazy too."
Her gray eyes were focused solely on her.
In that moment, Luo Nanqiu felt as if she were Jiang Xun's entire world.
Luo Nanqiu's heart instantly sped up, the tips of her ears rapidly turning a deep scarlet. The corners of her mouth curled up unconsciously, but she still remembered to offer a rebuttal.
"I'm not crazy." Her violet eyes were still moist.
"I just miss you so much."
She focused on Jiang Xun's face.
"Because I like you."
The confession was uttered so casually.
In the past, those words had been so difficult to say. She had even sealed up her own feelings, terrified of Jiang Xun finding out.
But now, she desperately wanted Jiang Xun to know her heart.
Luo Nanqiu didn't care about Jiang Xun's response.
Because...
Jiang Xun would never have the heart to abandon her anyway.
She would never be able to leave her.
It was despicable.
But as long as Jiang Xun didn't want her...
She would go die.
Jiang Xun froze. She blew on Luo Nanqiu's feverish wrist again, nodded, and affirmed, "I really like the Eldest Miss, too."
Towards the end, her voice carried a hint of intimate laughter.
Such a natural tone let Luo Nanqiu know that Jiang Xun didn't believe her "like" was romantic, and was even trying to normalize it into the "like" between friends.
So Luo Nanqiu turned her hand and gripped Jiang Xun's palm.
She held it very tightly, her eyes fixed on Jiang Xun's.
"It's different."
She pressed Jiang Xun's palm against her own heart.
"I like you in a romantic way."
"I love you. My heart beats ceaselessly for you."
"Ah Xun." A thread of pleading entered Luo Nanqiu's voice. "Listen to it."
Luo Nanqiu's heart was beating very fast.
Even her skin was somewhat feverish.
Jiang Xun's fingertips flinched, pulling back slightly, but Luo Nanqiu held them fast, pressing them tightly against her skin.
Jiang Xun felt as if Luo Nanqiu's heat was transferring to her.
The rising warmth seemed to dehydrate her.
Her mouth grew inexplicably dry.
Jiang Xun averted her gaze unnaturally.
She was somewhat troubled.
"Nanqiu, are you sure that's love?"
"Isn't it possessiveness?" Just like the base possessiveness towards the Eldest Miss that had surfaced in her own heart countless times, only to be suppressed.
"Do friends feel possessiveness for each other?" Luo Nanqiu sounded as if she had heard something hilarious.
She lowered her gaze to focus on Jiang Xun. Sensing Jiang Xun's thoughts, her mood became exceedingly joyful.
Jiang Xun pressed her lips together.
"Fine, friends can feel possessiveness too." Luo Nanqiu conceded a thousand steps.
"But I'm different."
"I think about how to kiss you." Luo Nanqiu moved Jiang Xun's palm to her lips.
Luo Nanqiu's lips were still a little hot.
Jiang Xun stared blankly, raising her head to see Luo Nanqiu's long, damp eyelashes.
Luo Nanqiu gently pressed against her palm, rubbing her cheek against it as if performing a hand-kissing ritual she had practiced countless times.
Her lips were just another part of her skin, no different from any other part.
But under Luo Nanqiu's fluttering lashes, under her lingering gaze, the wind carried the soft, warm fragrance from her body.
Every touch felt like an ambiguous kiss.
Jiang Xun's lips were tightly sealed, her body tense. For some reason, a lot of sweat had beaded on her forehead.
Her breath was scorching, and with each of Luo Nanqiu's advances, their breaths intertwined.
It didn't feel like simple nuzzling, and it certainly wasn't an ambiguous hand-kissing ritual. It was more like a frantic kiss where their very breaths merged.
Jiang Xun grabbed Luo Nanqiu's hand.
She stopped her from continuing.
Looking up, she could see Luo Nanqiu's sparkling eyes.
"Do you truly have no improper thoughts about me?" she heard Luo Nanqiu ask.
Jiang Xun could feel the tip of her heart tingling intensely, but she turned her head away in a fluster.
That was different.
Jiang Xun heard herself offer a muddled rebuttal.
But she couldn't explain what was different.
It was just that their long-standing friendship, as fragile as glass, had been shattered by Luo Nanqiu, leaving behind a floor of glittering shards, along with a tremendous sense of absurdity and disbelief.
She suspected that their long separation had caused Luo Nanqiu to misinterpret her feelings.
She felt this was a measure Luo Nanqiu had devised after getting her back, a desperate attempt to make them even closer.
So she said.
"Nanqiu, don't be like this," she said, her voice trembling slightly.
"I really won't leave you again."
Luo Nanqiu froze.
How could she not know what Jiang Xun was thinking?
Her flushed cheeks turned cold.
"You don't believe me?" she asked in disbelief.
"You think this is just my frantic fear of loss?"
Jiang Xun looked at her, seemingly asking calmly, "Don't you?"
"Fine." Luo Nanqiu sneered. She leaned in and grabbed Jiang Xun's shoulders.
Her face slowly drew closer.
But Jiang Xun didn't move.
She didn't know what she was waiting for either.
She was incredibly agitated inside.
She felt Luo Nanqiu's kiss wouldn't land, but then felt annoyed by the fact that it wouldn't.
She watched as Luo Nanqiu's face grew larger and larger.
She heard Luo Nanqiu question her, "Do you think a friend's possessiveness can reach this level?"
Her lips truly landed on hers.
Jiang Xun's mind instantly went blank.
All capacity for thought vanished, but her sense of touch became exceptionally clear.
She could feel Luo Nanqiu's crazed and fierce energy, like a desperate tearing.
She entwined with her, seeming to want to merge with her completely.
It was a long time before Luo Nanqiu stopped.
She licked the corner of Jiang Xun's lips with extreme satisfaction and asked, "Do you find it disgusting?"
Jiang Xun didn't know how to answer.
Luo Nanqiu pressed her ear to Jiang Xun's heart. "It's beating wildly for me, too."
Under the moonlight, Luo Nanqiu was as beautiful as a bewitching demon.
She seemed to know every one of Jiang Xun's thoughts, every one of her concerns.
"Then what do you think the line between a friend and a lover is?"
She pressed on with every sentence.
"Do we really have such a thing between us?"
"Before, you could say it was about titles, but what about now?"
Luo Nanqiu took Jiang Xun's hand again.
"Our hearts are the closest."
"Isn't that enough?"
She guided Jiang Xun's hand downwards, her eyes hazy as if drunk. "Would you find it disgusting?"
It was as if she was asking about the kiss just now, but also about something else.
Jiang Xun closed her eyes, feeling as if she were sinking into a mire made of cream and puffs-fragrant, cloying, completely harmless, yet impossible to move in.
Even breathing was difficult.
"Admit it, you like me too," she heard Luo Nanqiu say with certainty.
It's still different.
Jiang Xun retorted.
At least in her past 24 years, Jiang Xun had never had lustful thoughts about the Eldest Miss.
It was only now.
Only this Nanqiu now.
How could this be!!
Jiang Xun had always felt that the intimacy between them was equal.
Her love for Nanqiu and Nanqiu's love for her were the same.
How could something so absurd happen?
"I just think you're confused."
"Are you in your right mind?"
Jiang Xun struggled desperately with her last shred of reason.
"I can do that, whatever you want is fine."
"But when you're sober, won't you really hate me?"
Would this count as her taking advantage of the situation?
Jiang Xun wasn't sure either.
But Luo Nanqiu seemed to have heard a very funny joke.
"Hate you?"
"You think I don't hate you right now?"
Jiang Xun froze, suddenly remembering what Luo Eighteen had said about Luo Nanqiu hating her.
"If you're really afraid of me hating you," Luo Nanqiu hooked a finger under her shoulder strap, gently pressing a kiss to the corner of her lips. Her soft voice was laced with a fierce intent.
"Then obey me completely."
Jiang Xun couldn't help but think.
In the end, it seems you only ever truly know yourself.
Although they were childhood friends.
Was it possible she didn't understand her that well?
The moonlight gradually faded as the morning sun spilled onto the bed curtains.
The robot butler announced that it was time to get up, using Jiang Xun's voice.
But it was unceremoniously tossed onto the carpet by Luo Nanqiu.
She bit Jiang Xun's fair shoulder.
"Are you sober now?" Luo Nanqiu asked.
Jiang Xun gave a muffled "Mm."
Luo Nanqiu's slightly hoarse laugh, which tickled one's ears, was her only response.
Jiang Xun took Luo Nanqiu to wash up, and then, not caring what Luo Nanqiu would do next, she immediately buried herself under the covers.
Once the state of bliss passed and she was fully awake, Jiang Xun really wanted to slap herself.
Sometimes, she truly couldn't understand how things had ended up like this!!
Well, turns out she did confess. Just in the crazy Yandere way. Jiang Xun you milquetoast girl, if you don't assert youself now you better get used to being less independent that that pet tiger.
