MTB - Chapter 32

Chapter 32: All-Out Fight

Ever since the two of them had naturally gotten back together, Tang Yuelou had persuaded her to stay under the pretext that “living here is more convenient for commuting.” Yun Yang put up a little resistance but ultimately agreed, so she basically never went back to the dorm to sleep. Figuring there was no need to move back for the time being, she took the opportunity of going to campus for class to move her materials and other things to Tang Yuelou’s house.

The moment she stepped into the dorm, she felt something was wrong. Zhang Jia, who was usually noisy and chatty, was sitting by the bed, quietly comforting Shen Mengmeng. Guan Yan stood nearby with her hands on her hips, a complicated expression on her face. When she saw Yun Yang enter, Zhang Jia shot her a vicious glare. Yun Yang was completely baffled. “Why are you looking at me?”

Zhang Jia, fuming, was about to speak when Guan Yan grabbed her. “I told you it wasn’t Yun Yang…”

“Get off me! Who doesn’t know you two are thick as thieves?” Zhang Jia shook her off, strode forward, and grabbed Yun Yang by the collar. Pointing at Shen Mengmeng, she said, “Apologize to Mengmeng!”

Caught off guard, Yun Yang was yanked forward two steps. She twisted her ankle, and her hip bone slammed into the corner of a desk, making her gasp in pain. Her anger instantly ignited. “Let go! Apologize for what? Tell me, what have I done to wrong her?”

“Still pretending you don’t know?” Zhang Jia shouted. “Mengmeng, show her the chat history!”

Shen Mengmeng was a quiet, gentle girl who usually spoke softly and had never raised her voice at anyone. She trembled now and said, “Jiajia, why don’t we just forget it? We’re all roommates, I…”

Zhang Jia was angry at her for not fighting back. “Forget it? We can’t forget it! If she can seduce your boyfriend today, what will she do tomorrow? Can’t you be a little tougher?”

“Wait, you might want to forget it, but I don’t. What’s this about seducing her boyfriend? Are you just going to pin this shit on me?” Yun Yang glanced between the two of them and pried Zhang Jia’s hand off. “Get off. Let me see.”

“It’s about Chen Hao. He told Mengmeng it was because of you… that he wanted to break up with her,” Guan Yan said in a low voice, looking troubled. “I explained for ages, but no one listened.”

Yun Yang froze, understanding the gist of it.

“What’s there to explain,” she said, patting her wrinkled clothes and sneering. “Some people just can’t stand us. You could explain ten thousand times and they still wouldn’t believe you.”

Zhang Jia scoffed. “Who doesn’t know about you? Flirting around with everyone outside. You really think you’re something, don’t you? You’d even go after your friend’s boyfriend. How shameless can you be? No wonder you can hook up with so many people…”

Once her temper flared, she spoke without thinking. Her curses mingled with Shen Mengmeng’s sobs and Guan Yan’s attempts to mediate. Yun Yang’s head was buzzing with anger. “Watch your mouth. What do you mean ‘flirting around’? Someone like Chen Hao? Me, go after him? Could you not disgust me?”

“How dare you speak like that! The one who did the dirty deed knows it in their heart. I really don’t know how you can be so self-righteous. You really are shameless!” Zhang Jia’s face was distorted with anger. She lunged forward to hit her, but Shen Mengmeng grabbed her sleeve and stopped her.

“What do you mean by that?” Shen Mengmeng’s eyes were already red. She looked at Yun Yang, her voice trembling. “Yun Yang, I never thought you were this kind of person… I always trusted you so much, I thought of you as a good friend, you… you…”

“I said we should listen to Yun Yang’s explanation first. I was there that day. Don’t you know what kind of person Yun Yang is? Let’s not even talk about whether she likes Chen Hao, is her character that bad?” Guan Yan lowered her voice, speaking quickly. “It’s the middle of the day, and everyone’s so worked up. People are starting to watch. It’s just a misunderstanding. Can we all calm down and talk properly?”

Yun Yang glanced at the dorm window and, sure enough, saw passersby intentionally or unintentionally peeking inside. She turned her head and took a deep breath, trying to force herself to calm down.

“That day, I saw Chen…”

She was halfway through her sentence when Shen Mengmeng shouted through her tears, “You weren’t with her the whole time that day, how can you believe her so much?”

The anger Yun Yang had just managed to suppress shot through the roof.

Guan Yan felt a massive headache coming on. “I…”

“It seems it’s not just your boyfriend who has something wrong with his brain, you’re not much better. You trust him so much, so why break up now? Go beg him, beg him to take you back. Don’t you have any self-respect? I think you two are a match made in heaven.” Yun Yang was so angry she started to laugh. She pushed aside Zhang Jia who tried to stop her, opened her phone’s photo album, strode forward, grabbed the back of Shen Mengmeng’s collar, and shoved her face towards the phone.

“You won’t listen to an explanation, right? Take a good look, look a few more times, and see who’s seducing whom!”

Shen Mengmeng was forced to look down and clearly saw the people in the photo.

Zhang Jia turned her head to look as well and immediately fell silent. The photo had been secretly taken from outside a private room, showing a man and a woman kissing. The colorful lights in the room were flashing, and one happened to land on the man’s face. It was Chen Hao himself.

The previously noisy dorm fell deathly silent. In the quiet, Shen Mengmeng stared at the photo in a daze for a long time, let out a sob, then slowly covered her face and slumped onto the desk.

“Falling for this kind of person shows you have really bad taste, but don’t use your stupidity as an excuse to lash out at people. I’m not putting up with this kind of attitude,” Yun Yang said with a sneer, letting go and flexing her wrist.

After the initial burst of anger passed, her twisted ankle and the bruised spot throbbed with a dull pain. She turned and glared at Zhang Jia. Guan Yan had a bad feeling and tried to intervene. “Yangyang, are you coming back today…”

“Move.”

Yun Yang shook her off, grabbed a bottle of herbal tea from the desk, and threw it in Zhang Jia’s face.

With a splash, Zhang Jia’s clothes were soaked, and she covered her face in disarray.

“You’re not calm, so I’m helping you calm down. Can you speak like a human being now?” Yun Yang casually tossed the empty bottle into the trash can.

The empty bottle landed in the trash can with a thud. Zhang Jia wiped the tea from her face and turned her head away, refusing to show weakness.

“Apologize,” Yun Yang said coldly. “What did you say about me just now? Now, apologize!”

“I misunderstood you, but can you say that nothing I said was right?” Zhang Jia craned her neck stubbornly. “Flies don’t bite a seamless egg. Chen Hao is definitely a piece of trash, but why would he say that about you for no reason?”

“‘Flies don’t bite a seamless egg…’” Yun Yang laughed. “If I beat you black and blue right here, would that also be a case of ‘flies don’t bite a seamless egg’?”

Zhang Jia’s face flushed red. “You…”

Her anger dissipated, and Yun Yang now even found it laughable. She rotated her ankle, confirming it wasn’t seriously injured. She lifted her chin and gestured towards Shen Mengmeng. “You two have a good chat. I’ll never forget what happened today. I’ll be waiting for your apology anytime. Right now, I don’t have time to waste on idiots.”

“If you’re still not calm, I don’t mind helping you calm down again.” She spat disdainfully and turned to pack her things.

Zhang Jia wanted to argue with her some more, but Shen Mengmeng was slumped over the desk, crying until she lost her voice. She stomped her foot hard but still chose to go and comfort her.

Yun Yang picked up her things, turned, and left. Guan Yan quickly chased after her.

She was walking too fast. Guan Yan, wearing slippers, had to jog to keep up, calling her name. She only caught up after they left the dormitory building. “Yangyang! Wait, wait up.”

“What is it?” Yun Yang asked without turning her head.

“It looks like Chen Hao posted something on his Moments. It’s all made up, a bit… you know… Do you want to take a look first?” Guan Yan quickly scrolled through her Moments, but she had too many WeChat contacts and couldn’t find it after scrolling for a long time. Anxiously, she looked up and froze for a moment. “Yangyang? What’s wrong?”

Yun Yang shook her head.

“You… you’re not crying, are you?” Guan Yan was at a loss for a moment, pulling her to the side. “Don’t. What those two said was really out of line, but…”

“I’m fine, just really angry.” Yun Yang let her pull her down onto a bench and took a deep breath to calm herself.

It really wasn’t enough to make her cry. She believed she could hold her own in a shouting match with anyone. But to be doubted and insulted by people she considered friends… in those few minutes, she had almost gone crazy with anger. Her first reaction wasn’t even to clarify things, but to have a huge fight and then cut ties with those two idiots. It was just a matter of staying away from morons to keep herself safe. Fortunately, reason prevailed.

She had to make Shen Mengmeng see Chen Hao’s true colors first, otherwise she’d be letting them both off too easily.

“Chen Hao really is a piece of trash,” Guan Yan said, looking at her hesitantly. “I’m going to show you this, but try not to get angry.”

Yun Yang nodded, closed her eyes, and rubbed the bridge of her nose. “What is it? Is it long? If not, just give me the gist.”

“Uh, anyway, it’s just rumors he made up. It’s a bit hard for me to read out loud…” Guan Yan finally found Chen Hao’s Moments post and said hesitantly.

“What rumors?”

A voice suddenly sounded from above her head. Guan Yan jumped in fright, nearly dropping her phone. When she looked up, she was stunned.

“Teacher Tang?”
