DEG - Chapter 31
Chapter 31: The Return of Memories
Luo Nanqiu's kiss was still sensed by Luo Twenty-Five.
Luo Twenty-Five pushed Luo Nanqiu away, staring at Jiang Xun's lips as tears dripped down her face.
She looked so pitiful, it would stir anyone's heart.
Her intention was also very obvious.
Won't you kiss me too?
Am I not the Nanqiu you love?
But Jiang Xun's back tensed up.
In truth, she was still a little embarrassed.
Two Nanqius was indeed too strange.
It always felt like she was cheating.
Kissing her past self in front of Nanqiu?
Jiang Xun really couldn't do it.
Steeling herself, she ignored Luo Twenty-Five's gaze and shot a pleading look at Luo Nanqiu.
Luo Nanqiu smiled gently.
"Ah Xun, does your head still hurt?"
"You've overused your Mental Power. It's best not to use your ability right now."
Luo Nanqiu's gaze fell upon Luo Twenty-Five.
The intent to dismiss her was very clear.
Luo Twenty-Five knew that her current state was a burden on Jiang Xun. No matter how reluctant she was to leave, she didn't dare to remain at this time.
After all, keeping the sea of consciousness in a state of overload would affect a person's potential.
She couldn't harm Jiang Xun.
But with teary eyes, she took a step forward and gently bit Jiang Xun's jaw.
It was like a light bite, but more of a wet kiss.
Lingering and damp, just like Luo Twenty-Five's state of mind.
She looked at Jiang Xun with deep reluctance, her lips parting slightly, but in the end, she stopped herself from speaking.
She returned to her card.
Jiang Xun let out a long sigh of relief.
Because she was terrible at treating them equally.
She had always been blatantly biased towards Luo Nanqiu.
But with two Nanqius here now, she was at a complete loss.
Having been unintentionally kissed by Luo Twenty-Five, Jiang Xun looked at Luo Nanqiu with a somewhat nervous gaze.
But Luo Nanqiu said nothing about it.
She came over, pulled Jiang Xun onto her lap, and took over Luo Twenty-Five's job of massaging Jiang Xun's head.
She knew she should be managing the public opinion on the player side, but she wasn't in the mood at all.
Nothing was more important than her Ah Xun.
Work could wait.
And so, at this moment, the game forums were in an uproar.
On the game forums, the hottest thread at the moment was:
【Wait, this game can have bugs??】
OP: Here's what happened. I was just casually strolling on the Regent's private planet, and then my body started to digitalize.
Just like when we normally die, but the process was clearly much slower.
I thought I had accidentally entered a forbidden area and gotten poisoned or something, but I didn't have any negative status effects!!
Then I died and ended up at the respawn point.
And then I was kicked offline.
Star Battle, what's wrong with you?? You can actually have bugs??!
1F: I suspect something big is happening. Camping here for updates.
...
9F: Same, on the Regent's private planet, same situation.
...
107F: Damn, I've summarized it. So far, only players on the Regent's planet have been kicked offline.
...
201F: Report! I just went to the Regent's planet. You won't get kicked offline if you go now.
...
251: So, OP and the others, can you guys log in now?
OP: That's the problem!! I still can't log in!! I just sent my holographic helmet to be checked, and there's nothing wrong with it. I even bought a new helmet, and I still can't log in!!
OP: I'm about to have a breakdown! Star Battle, can this "game" of yours really have bugs?!!
...
300F: I don't think it's a bug. I think something went wrong.
In the game's lore, we've always been the product of some God Rank master's ability. We were created by her ability; we are an external manifestation of her ability.
So, is it possible that the master was just fighting someone, ran low on ability power, and temporarily broke down the players' forms, turning them back into pure ability to help her fight?
...
305F: Not impossible. And it was all players on the Regent's planet. Don't tell me that God Rank is on the Regent's planet right now.
...
311F: So here's the question: who was fighting whom? Why were they fighting? Was it such a big showdown that it had to be a fight to the death? Most importantly, did the main story get another update?! So soon! Isn't the Regent's love-hate drama not even finished yet?!!
312F: Poster above, is it possible that this main story is part of the Regent's love-hate drama?
After all, Jiang Xun came back to life, and the people who killed her back then are starting to stir again.
...
520F: Damn, that's deep. Have you guys seen the new cutscene they just released?
The new cutscene starts with Luo Eighteen finding Breaking Waves Riding Wind to issue a quest.
Luo Nanqiu had done some clever editing, allowing the players to see Breaking Waves Riding Wind fail to persuade Qing Yue, but then Qing Yue going to find Jiang Xun herself.
For some of the memories within, Luo Nanqiu even used holographic technology to create a one-to-one recreation.
The cutscene ends when Luo Twenty-Five returns to her card.
The cutscene was short, but the amount of information it revealed was enormous.
521F: So, what we know is, Luo Nanqiu fought her past self, and then we got disconnected...??
522F: Wait, isn't the Regent supposed to be the mysterious villain type? How is it that now, the information being revealed tells us we're actually her ability, that she's our birth mother in this world (?)
533F: Okay, that kiss, mom and mom, I am born.
571F: Based on what Luo Nanqiu said, the people who killed Jiang Xun were tortured by her until they were barely human long ago. How could there be a new main questline left for us to fight...
With the appearance of the new short clip, the forums were mostly filled with people shipping the CP.
Luo Nanqiu was very satisfied with what she saw on the forums.
After deciding to open up the military academy in the new version and putting the players' academy journey on the schedule, Luo Nanqiu also noticed a few comments she cared about among the many CP-shipping threads.
"Baby, I really want to ship this CP, but their relationship storyline is just too messy, I can't understand it!!"
Luo Nanqiu began to take this seriously and decided to edit a video about her and Jiang Xun's past.
But she had to choose the most important parts of their memories and treat them with the utmost seriousness.
With that, the day's work came to an end.
Luo Nanqiu once again held Jiang Xun as they went to sleep in bed.
Although their two-person bed often had three or four people in it.
Especially Luo Twenty-Five, who had just lost Jiang Xun and then found her again.
She came out of the card again and again, confirming that Jiang Xun was real and not just a dream she was having.
Luo Nanqiu was a light sleeper and should have been angry after being disturbed so many times.
But tonight, she seemed to be trapped in nightmares, a series of fragmented dreams.
At times, she was Luo Eighteen, filled with the innocence of her girlhood and the sense of superiority from always being able to appear by Jiang Xun's side, seeking out Breaking Waves Riding Wind in the hope that she would take Jiang Xun away from her.
Then she became Luo Twenty-Five, her heart overflowing with sorrow and resentment, a burning, venomous fire that wanted to burn this wretched world to ashes and tear anyone who harmed Jiang Xun limb from limb.
She languished in a world that would no longer change because of Jiang Xun, reminiscing about her brilliance and beauty, cursing the world while clutching the mementos she had left behind.
She was determined to make sure that those who caused Jiang Xun's death would not die a good death, that they would suffer death by a thousand cuts before the end.
She extravagantly hoped that Jiang Xun would also enter her dreams to see her.
Her entire being was like a taut string; she wanted to gather everything of Jiang Xun's into her own arms.
Qing Yue was Jiang Xun's comrade-in-arms. She had a secret crush on Jiang Xun, and Luo Nanqiu knew it.
But she still had to take away the things Jiang Xun had left for her.
What happened next should have been the straightforward act of taking away Jiang Xun's belongings without any surprises, but the events in the dream changed drastically.
She actually experienced today's events from Luo Twenty-Five's perspective.
She experienced that struggle, felt Jiang Xun's embrace, and also kissed Jiang Xun's jaw.
It wasn't enough.
She wanted more.
She wanted more proof that Jiang Xun still existed in this world.
Luo Nanqiu woke up in a daze and saw Luo Twenty-Five gently lying over Jiang Xun's heart, listening to the vibrant heartbeat within that body.
It was clearly Ah Xun's ability, yet it allowed her to feel what they had experienced.
What was this?
The Luo Twenty-Five that Ah Xun summoned was actually a part of her. In her dreams at night, would the memories belonging to her return?
Luo Nanqiu hugged Jiang Xun's arm, her feelings about Luo Twenty-Five's existence growing complicated again.
But Jiang Xun knew nothing of this.
Lying beside Nanqiu, she was fast asleep.
When she woke up the next day, only a softened Luo Nanqiu was beside her.
After breakfast, while Nanqiu was handling some documents, she suddenly asked, "Ah Xun, would you like to attend the military academy again?"
"The players will be going there too. The academy will definitely be very interesting now."
"Besides, with the constant interstellar wars right now, you'll definitely be promoted to the position you want very quickly, and then..."
"...marry me." Luo Nanqiu recalled what Jiang Xun had proudly boasted to Luo Eighteen.
She was the one most likely to marry Luo Nanqiu in the public's eyes.
And so, Luo Nanqiu herself puffed out her chest a little with pride, her bright eyes waiting for Jiang Xun's reply.
Jiang Xun, on the other hand, was surprised that Luo Nanqiu would suddenly relent and let her be somewhere else.
But if she had such an opportunity...
Of course she would seize it!
She couldn't just do nothing and live off Nanqiu forever, could she?
"Okay."
Following Jiang Xun's agreement, the military academy opening event began its vigorous warm-up phase. The first step was for academy instructors to visit various star systems to find promising candidates.
Just like cultivators from the cultivation world going to the mortal realm to test for spiritual roots.
Player participation immediately skyrocketed.
Are you kidding? This was an interstellar military academy! Every gamer would want to go and try it out.
To see what's different about interstellar education compared to Blue Star's!
Blue Star, wait for me! I'll steal the galaxy's advanced technology to support you!
As for the problem of not being able to understand the material...
That kind of stuff was for the master players to figure out, of course. They, the ordinary players, were just going to the academy to have fun!
