MTB - Chapter 30
Chapter 30: Don't Bring Conflict Home
After getting to know Tang Yuelou, Yun Yang had perfected two skills—the first was having a guilty conscience, and the other was regret.
When she ran away at noon, she never expected their next meeting would be at the police station. Under these circumstances, any trace of romantic sentiment had long since vanished. In the end, Yun Yang got a lecture, but she didn't receive a demerit or have her parents notified. She just “won” a three-thousand-word self-criticism essay. Then, she said goodbye to her brothers-in-arms from the fight and braced herself to coax the much more difficult Tang Yuelou.
“I didn’t expect to see this. You’ve given me a big ‘surprise,’ Yangyang.”
The cotton swab pressed against the wound, and the sharp pain made Yun Yang flinch back, but Tang Yuelou held her in place. She commanded in a low voice, “Don’t move.”
Yun Yang couldn’t help but shrink her shoulders and reply, “...Oh.”
She was forced to sit obediently in the back seat, her chin slightly raised as Tang Yuelou applied medicine to her wounds. The cotton swab, soaked in disinfectant alcohol, stung as it was pressed against her skin. She hissed, sucking in a sharp breath, not daring to speak or move—she knew Tang Yuelou was doing it on purpose. Sometimes, this person liked to make her hurt.
This pain was within a controllable range, just enough to make her remember, but not so much that it would truly injure her.
As for what kind of quirk this was, other than Tang Yuelou being a pervert, she couldn’t find any other reason for the time being.
Yun Yang observed her expression and asked tentatively, “Are you still angry?”
Tang Yuelou screwed the cap back on the medicine bottle and ruffled her hair. “We’ll talk when we get home.”
Neither admitting nor denying it, the statement carried the strong implication of settling scores later. Yun Yang translated it in her head, figuring she probably meant, “You’re finished if you don’t give me a reasonable explanation when we get home.”
At that, she shivered, wondering why on earth she had made that phone call earlier. Was she just asking for trouble?
“That’s not a good idea, is it? I’ve always felt that conflict shouldn’t be brought home. Home is supposed to be a warm and cozy place,” she suggested. “Why don’t we just talk about it here?”
Tang Yuelou’s hand, which had just reached the door handle, paused. She turned back, narrowed her eyes, and asked, “Are you sure?”
Yun Yang: “...Uh...” Suddenly, she wasn’t so sure anymore.
“Fine, that works too.”
In a way, Tang Yuelou was a woman of action. If she said something was okay, it was okay. Yun Yang started to panic. She backed away until the small of her back was pressed against the car door. Tang Yuelou reached a hand toward her. “Why are you hiding so far away? Aren’t we resolving our conflict? Come here.”
“I won’t,” Yun Yang refused crisply.
“We’re just talking. Why are you afraid of me again?” Tang Yuelou said helplessly. “You’re not thinking of running away again, are you? Do you turn into this every time you come back after running away? That won’t do. I’ll be very sad.”
Sad… Yun Yang broke the word apart. She knew each letter individually, but putting them together in relation to Tang Yuelou felt truly strange.
Having almost forgotten about what happened at noon, she suddenly felt a pang of annoyance.
Although she felt it was a bit stupid, she had to admit she was quite susceptible to this kind of reverse psychology. Yun Yang pouted and shuffled forward a few centimeters.
“Fine.”
Tang Yuelou sighed, held her by the waist, and tilted her head to kiss her.
“Why are you crying again? You didn’t even cry when you were fighting with people. Did I do something too excessive?” Tang Yuelou turned up the air conditioner, wiped away her tears with the back of her finger, and teased.
“No, no, you didn’t.” A wise person knows when to yield, and Yun Yang never hesitated to admit her mistakes. “Teacher, I was wrong.”
“I’m not angry because you got into a fight, Yangyang,” Tang Yuelou said, gently patting her back. “You didn’t do anything wrong in this matter. You were indeed impulsive and didn’t protect yourself well, but no one can blame you for becoming a victim, including me.”
