DEG - Chapter 16
Chapter 16: She Had to See Her Sooner
This was Luo Nanqiu's private planet.
One of the countless properties she herself wasn't even very clear about.
The Little Emperor's security wasn't very strict, as if certain he couldn't escape the Regent's grasp.
Jiang Xun was also aware of some of Luo Nanqiu's wicked tastes-giving him subtle, unending hope, only to shatter it bit by bit, turning it into endless despair.
So, Breaking Waves Riding Wind brought her along, smoothly bypassing the planet's defenses and successfully meeting Qi Yi.
In truth, Qi Yi was quite easy to find on this planet.
After all, on a completely mechanized planet, a real person doing manual labor stood out like a sore thumb.
He even had a robot overseer by his side, constantly urging him to work hard and not slack off.
To be honest, Qi Yi's face was quite handsome, but it was steeped in resentment. His expression was ferocious, tinged with a murky hostility.
Perhaps because he hadn't had water in a long time, his lips were a bit chapped. Due to the harsh working conditions, he also smelled rather foul.
Perhaps aware that Qi Yi had a visitor, he was unceremoniously shoved forward by his robot guard.
Qi Yi lost his footing and staggered, nearly falling to the ground. He glared resentfully at the robot guard. It was a pathetic sight, but combined with his somewhat boyish cheeks and fair skin, there was a strange sort of fierce cuteness to it.
But he quickly turned back to face Breaking Waves Riding Wind. "You're here."
He had an air of grievance, yet also a helpless sort of pity.
Breaking Waves Riding Wind couldn't help but chuckle. Indeed, even knowing the 2D character was a villain with a terrible track record, sometimes he still seemed cute, even quite appealing.
The viewers in the livestream chat couldn't help but comment.
【No matter how many times I see it, the Little Emperor is just pathetically cute!】
Jiang Xun lowered her eyes, her brow furrowed.
"Why did you bring someone else?" Qi Yi averted his gaze and stood up, trying his best to appear more like a nobleman, maintaining a semblance of dignity and tidiness.
Jiang Xun simply stepped out from behind Breaking Waves Riding Wind and walked up to him. Although she was shorter, he inexplicably felt a sense of condescending arrogance from her.
"Because I came with her." Her voice was full of amusement.
But hearing it sent a shiver down Qi Yi's spine.
He was far too familiar with Jiang Xun. He could forget anyone, but he could never forget the main culprit who had reduced him to this state.
Even though he had plotted Jiang Xun's death long ago, it didn't stop him from digging her out of his memory to flog her corpse again and again.
"You!" He suspected Luo Nanqiu had come up with some new way to deliberately torture him.
He forced himself to look at the newcomer, but froze on the spot when he saw Jiang Xun's face.
Jiang Xun was smiling, her eyes narrowed slightly so her gray pupils were hidden.
Her condescending air was mixed with a hint of amiability.
This familiar smile triggered a severe stress reaction in Qi Yi.
"You! Who are you?!"
He stumbled back a few steps, pointing at Jiang Xun and questioning Breaking Waves Riding Wind, "What are your intentions, bringing her here?!"
But Breaking Waves Riding Wind just shook her head in confusion. "I didn't bring anyone."
Breaking Waves Riding Wind even took a few concerned steps forward. "Are you okay?"
No, he was not okay.
He was in big trouble.
He saw Jiang Xun unhurriedly take two steps forward.
But Breaking Waves Riding Wind acted as if she couldn't see her.
She was a full-sized person, she even had a shadow.
"What do you gain from putting on this act with her?!" A chill rose in his heart. He tried his best not to think she was a ghost.
But this person was just too similar to the Jiang Xun in his memories.
How could there be someone in this world who looked exactly like Jiang Xun, right down to her expression?
Hadn't that madwoman Luo Nanqiu dealt with all such people already?!
Could it be that Luo Nanqiu had deliberately sent her to scare him?
But then he heard her say, "She can't see me."
Jiang Xun stared straight at Qi Yi.
"Thank you for releasing me from that body." Jiang Xun's words were pointed as she reached out and grabbed Qi Yi by the neck. "And also."
"...murdering me and framing me for treason. That was your handiwork, wasn't it?"
Qi Yi could feel Jiang Xun's icy fingers.
Her grip tightened slightly, easily making him feel the sensation of suffocation.
Jiang Xun's strength was immense; it felt as if she could snap his neck without any effort. Qi Yi gasped for air, the terror in his heart and the suffocating lack of oxygen contorting his face into a hideous expression.
He couldn't help but think.
Had he run into a ghost?
A vengeful spirit, come to claim his soul after he had her killed?
He watched Breaking Waves Riding Wind stare at him, bewildered and shocked, standing to the side at a loss, seemingly unsure why he was in this state or how she should help him.
Qi Yi cursed her as an idiot in his mind.
Feeling the oxygen gradually deplete, he knew this foolish Descender was useless.
So he decisively kicked the robot guard beside him and issued a command in a hoarse, savage voice.
"Kill her!"
I don't care if you're human or ghost.
Even if you are a ghost, if I could kill you once, I can kill you a second time.
The robot received the command, and a thermal weapon instantly materialized, firing a shot in Jiang Xun's direction.
Jiang Xun raised an eyebrow, a genuine smile finally gracing her lips.
Instead of dodging, she deftly shifted Qi Yi's body, and the bullet grazed right past him, leaving a scorch mark on his fair skin.
In that instant, Qi Yi broke out in a cold sweat from the pain.
"Little Emperor," Jiang Xun asked faintly, "what did you do to the Insect Mother?"
"Why did it keep chasing me?"
Jiang Xun lifted him up, dangling him in the air. The backs of his knees were trembling.
Only at this moment did he remember Jiang Xun's identity, remember how he had caused her death through his schemes, remember that she was recognized throughout the galaxy as the strongest solo operative, and remember the apprehension his supporters felt when they learned she belonged to the Luo Family.
"It wasn't me! Let me go!"
His tear ducts opened on command, and tears streamed down his face. "It was my subordinates who instigated me to kill you, but I didn't agree! They acted on their own!"
Jiang Xun's grip tightened.
"Is that so? Then why did Nanqiu tell me you were the culprit?"
Jiang Xun left him no room for rebuttal, her every word pressing and aggressive.
The suffocation was making him break down. Hearing that familiar name filled him with hatred, and despair washed over him.
"If you already know, why are you still torturing me?"
"So what if I killed you?!"
"Even if I was just a useless prince, didn't I still kill you, the strongest solo operative, drive the head of the Luo Family insane, and secure my place on the emperor's throne?"
"You're already dead! What right do you have to come back as a vengeful spirit to claim my life?!" he practically screamed, his face contorted, all semblance of his image gone.
Jiang Xun had gotten the answer she wanted.
The corners of her eyes drooped, a cold indifference spreading through her languid expression.
She slammed the Little Emperor hard against the robot behind him.
Focusing on his face, she delivered punch after punch with an extremely cold expression. The smell of blood filled the air, and the sound of fists hitting flesh was mixed with the Little Emperor's gasps of extreme pain.
Her slightly long hair partially obscured her eyes, but Breaking Waves Riding Wind could vaguely see that her gray eyes were, for the first time...
...devoid of light.
The boisterous livestream chat fell completely silent.
Heaven knows how panicked they had been watching this series of events unfold.
From 【Ahhh, you guys planned this, didn't you? Having Jiang Xun pretend to be a ghost to scare the Little Emperor.】
【Look how scared the poor kid is.】
To 【Damn, what's with this Little Emperor? I was genuinely feeling sorry for his situation, and it turns out it was all an act for us.】
【My defenses are broken. I'm being completely played by these NPCs [crying with sunglasses].jpg】
And now, to the dead silence.
They stared blankly at Jiang Xun's actions, watching her vent her anger.
It wasn't until Jiang Xun kicked Qi Yi, sending him crashing into a nearby tree trunk and knocking him unconscious.
Then she summoned her Annihilation Ability and destroyed Qi Yi's robot in one go, finally snapping them out of it.
They heard Jiang Xun say, "Then I'm afraid you'll be disappointed."
"Because I'm alive again."
"And soon, it will be your turn to die."
The livestream chat suddenly exploded.
【Damn!】
【AHHHHH!!! SISTER, KILL ME!!!】
The livestream was filled with screams.
Breaking Waves Riding Wind suppressed her palpitations and, forcing down her excitement, asked in a trembling voice, "Are you going to kill him now?"
"No."
Jiang Xun glanced at her.
"I'm leaving him for Nanqiu."
After teaching the Little Emperor a lesson, Jiang Xun reverted to her usual state-outwardly cold, but actually easy to talk to.
It was as if the incident had left no mark on her.
Except, of course, for the fact that she kept urging the Little Emperor to set off for Luo Nanqiu's birthday celebration.
Jiang Xun didn't let Qi Yi use a healing pod for his injuries right away, letting him suffer in pain for a solid two days. Only when they arrived at Luo Nanqiu's planet did she let him lie in one to fully recover.
As a result, whenever Qi Yi looked at her, his eyes were filled with venomous hatred.
Amidst Jiang Xun's eager anticipation, the Little Emperor's private starship finally landed on Luo Nanqiu's planet.
Perhaps because he could act all high and mighty as an emperor again for a while, Qi Yi brought out a cage, exuding a gloomy yet smugly triumphant air.
"Get in. You're the birthday present I'm bringing her."
"You need to be handed over to her assistant for inspection as an item."
At this, he suddenly sneered, his voice dripping with malice.
"You probably don't know, do you? She's married. She hates you to death now and has killed many people who look like you. She'll probably choose to kill you too when she sees you."
Jiang Xun just said, "Oh," successfully infuriating him. She obediently climbed into the cage and, as a gift, was delivered into the hands of Luo Nanqiu's assistants, joining the other presents in the storage room.
Qi Yi said that as the emperor's gift, she would be unveiled on the day of the birthday to give Luo Nanqiu a surprise.
But why would Jiang Xun cooperate with Qi Yi to give Luo Nanqiu a surprise?
She had prepared a birthday gift for Nanqiu, too.
She had to see her earlier, sooner, much sooner.
Jiang Xun escaped from the storage room.
After leaving, she was greeted by a familiar environment. The closer she ran to the center, the more familiar it seemed.
Nanqiu clearly had a luxurious and fickle nature, always loving the new and tiring of the old, yet the decorations here were exactly the same as they were six years ago.
It was as if she had never died.
As if the six years had never passed.
Following her memory, she barged past one alarm-triggering robot after another, leading a long trail of wailing patrol robots as she ran along a familiar path into Luo Nanqiu's garden.
In the garden, a snow leopard's ears twitched. It stood up, hesitantly watching the somewhat familiar figure.
It watched as she entered a password and broke into the unoccupied room.
