DDT - Chapter 122
Chapter 122: Interstellar ABO (7)
The comprehensive examination room at the central hospital performed a very thorough check-up on Chi Junluo. It took much longer than the one on Yi Shuhan's mecha because the equipment was far more advanced. The hospital doctors also treated her burned and sealed left eye. Unfortunately, the doctor said that with burns of this severity, her eye was beyond saving, even if she were sent to the Main Star for treatment. As for the scars on her face, there was no way to remove them in the short term. Only after the wound healed, the scabs fell off, and the new flesh underneath had fully grown in could she perhaps go to a professional cosmetic surgery hospital on the Main Star for a procedure that might salvage her appearance. However, the doctor offered a small comfort to the two of them. Chi Junluo was an Alpha, after all, and what mattered most was her strength. Once she recovered and her body was nursed back to health, she could still support a family. If such an injury were on an Omega's face, that Omega's life would be considered ruined.
Seeing the doctor shake his head with a sigh, Yi Shuhan felt a surge of displeasure. Since childhood, she had always detested the various prejudices people held against Omegas. Because the general environment was like this, even Omegas themselves thought this way. Every time Yi Shuhan thought about it, a feeling of exasperation would well up inside her. Fortunately, her focus was currently on Chi Chi, so she couldn't be bothered to waste energy on pointless anger.
With the help of a nurse, Yi Shuhan completed the hospital admission procedures for Chi Chi. As she left the comprehensive examination room to handle the paperwork at the front desk, Yi Shuhan's gaze swept quickly over the patients outside. They were still sitting in their seats, waiting for their numbers to be called, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Yi Shuhan snorted coldly in her heart, but her face betrayed nothing. While handling the admission at the front desk, Yi Shuhan deliberately asked in a loud voice if there were any top-tier rooms available, casually expressing her disdain for ordinary wards.
Seeing her inexplicably confrontational mood, the receptionist exchanged a quick glance with her colleague. While saying she would check the system for any available luxury single rooms, she secretly sent a message to her superiors, asking if they should let them stay in a top-tier room. After all, the ordinary rooms were more convenient for surveillance.
Her superior seemed to be waiting for the report. In less than a minute, the receptionist received a reply: "Let them stay."
The receptionist breathed a sigh of relief, quickly selected a room in the system, and then gave Yi Shuhan a slight smile, telling her that there happened to be one single top-tier room left in the hospital. Yi Shuhan maintained her impatient expression, casually tossing a dozen large-denomination purple Star Coins onto the counter and urging the receptionist to hurry up and take them there, as the patient needed rest.
After the admission was processed, the receptionist saw them off with a smile, watching her colleague lead them toward the top-tier rooms in the inpatient department.
The inpatient department was in the building directly behind the outpatient clinic. Worried that Chi Chi would get tired from walking and that her body couldn't take it, Yi Shuhan bought a powered wheelchair directly from the medical supply store. Then, concerned that Chi Chi wouldn't have the energy to operate the wheelchair herself, she had the nurse help push it. The nurse guiding them hadn't expected this and froze for a moment. Yi Shuhan immediately frowned, her face full of displeasure, and a string of harsh words spilled out. "I paid you so many Star Coins, and you can't even push a wheelchair for me? Am I the one paying to be a customer, or are you?!"
The nurse's expression turned ugly. She forced a smile and walked stiffly behind the wheelchair, waiting for Chi Junluo to take a seat.
Chi Junluo looked at the pretty young woman who had suddenly changed her demeanor. She had been so gentle and delicate on the mecha. Although Chi Junluo didn't know what kind of act she was putting on now, she knew she must have her reasons. The only person she could trust right now was this young woman, so she might as well cooperate.
With Yi Shuhan's help, Chi Junluo sat down in the wheelchair. The nurse pushed them to a single luxury room on the top floor of the inpatient department. After opening the door for them, the nurse bowed slightly, her eyes lowered, and said to Yi Shuhan, "Miss, this is the best room in our hospital. It has a living room, a bathroom, and a bedroom. The bedroom has one large bed and one companion bed. If the patient is uncomfortable and cannot share a bed, you may rest on the companion bed next to it. If you need anything, you can contact the medical staff of the inpatient department directly through the light screen in the living room. I still have patients to attend to at the front desk, so I won't disturb your rest."
After speaking, the nurse hurried away. Yi Shuhan glanced down the hallway and at the other rooms, then pushed Chi Junluo into the room, carefully closing and locking the door. She then gently helped Chi Chi sit down on the soft sofa.
Yi Shuhan didn't speak. She walked around the room, tapping and knocking in several corners. Then she went to the window, glanced out, and reached out to draw the curtains.
In the outpatient building opposite, the person secretly observing the top-tier room saw the curtains being drawn and could only send a message to their superior.
Big Fatty was currently sitting at the front desk. The nurse who had just taken Yi Shuhan and the other to the room was a female Alpha. Big Fatty was also an Alpha, and this nurse was his capable subordinate and his favorite bed partner.
That's right. In an era where Alphas generally despised each other, Big Fatty greatly enjoyed sleeping with Alphas of his own gender. He relished the thrill of two Alpha pheromones colliding.
As Big Fatty's capable subordinate and lover, the female Alpha was an influential figure in the central city. Today, she had originally just come to help Big Fatty keep an eye on the two people who were about to be presented to The Controller to prevent them from escaping. She never expected that she, a formidable Alpha who held sway in the central city, would be ordered around by an arrogant Omega who didn't know her place. If this Omega wasn't meant for The Controller, she would have dealt with her on the spot!
The female Alpha returned from the inpatient department in a huff. Seeing Big Fatty sitting at the front desk waiting for her, her anger flared. She kicked Big Fatty's butt. "You fat bastard, if she wasn't a little chick the Boss likes, I would've taught her how an Omega is supposed to serve an Alpha!"
Big Fatty didn't get angry from the kick. On the contrary, he especially enjoyed this kind of physical contact. It felt substantial!
Grinning, Big Fatty wrapped an arm around the female Alpha's waist, pulling her against him. He soothed her, "You're an Alpha, why bother with those useless things? No matter how arrogant and wild she is now, won't she be put in her place by the Boss in the end? This is the Boss's territory. How long do you think she can keep hopping around? There, there, don't be angry. How about we go to a room with a view at Fanghong Garden tonight and cross some bayonets?"
The female Alpha thought about it and realized he had a point. Hearing the second half of his sentence, her mind started to wander, and the two began getting lovey-dovey right there at the front desk. The pheromones of two aroused Alphas drifted through the air, forcing everyone else to retreat a good distance away.
Chi Junluo sat obediently on the sofa, watching Yi Shuhan move around the entire room, fiddling with things here and there before drawing the curtains. A faint guess began to form in her mind.
It wasn't dark yet, and Yi Shuhan hadn't turned on the lights, so the room was just a little dim.
Yi Shuhan sat down next to Chi Junluo and placed the small things she had found while inspecting the room on the coffee table. There were about a dozen of them, each about the size of a soybean. Chi Junluo leaned forward to look and saw something resembling a camera lens on them, but they had all been crushed.
Yi Shuhan explained, "Someone planted these in the room to monitor us. I've found them all. The building opposite the window is the outpatient clinic from before. Someone was watching us through the window. With the curtains drawn, it'll be quieter."
Chi Junluo nodded, indicating she understood.
Yi Shuhan looked at Chi Junluo for a moment, then gathered the dozen or so tiny cameras and placed them in Chi Junluo's hand. "Crush them."
Chi Junluo: ???
Yi Shuhan just stared at her. Chi Junluo had no choice but to squeeze her hand shut. She didn't know what these little things were made of, but they were incredibly hard. Chi Junluo felt a vein throb in her temple.
Seeing that she hadn't opened her hand after a long time, Yi Shuhan reached out and patted the back of Chi Junluo's hand, signaling her to stop. When she opened her palm, the cameras were largely undamaged, but her palm was red from the pressure.
Yi Shuhan took the items and put them into her own Space Storage Device. It seemed Chi Chi's physical constitution was now worse than an Omega's.
Yi Shuhan detached the light screen from her forearm and handed it to Chi Junluo.
Chi Junluo took it, not knowing what this young woman wanted her to do.
The light screen was blank. Chi Junluo tapped it a couple of times, but nothing popped up, though a few small black dots were left on the screen.
Yi Shuhan explained, "You can't speak right now. To make it easier for us to communicate, I'll ask questions, and you write what you know on the light screen. Just like how you were tapping it just now, use your finger."
Chi Junluo nodded. This was similar to how she remembered using a tablet.
Yi Shuhan started with the most basic question. "Do you know what your name is?"
Chi Junluo froze. She didn't know how to answer the very first question.
Yi Shuhan frowned. Chi Chi's name was so simple. Could it be she had even forgotten her own name?
Chi Junluo hesitated. She recalled her past few worlds. Except for the world where she was a general in ancient times and her name was missing a character, her name in the other worlds seemed to be the same as her original one.
Chi Junluo flexed her right index finger, then carefully wrote her name.
Yi Shuhan watched her the whole time. Just as she was about to breathe a sigh of relief when the character "Chi" appeared, she saw Chi Chi write two more characters.
Yi Shuhan: ???
Chi Junluo? Where did the last two characters come from?
The handwriting was more or less the same as before, but she had never heard Chi Chi say her name had three characters.
Holding onto her doubts, Yi Shuhan continued asking, "Do you know what year it is now?"
Hearing the second question, Chi Junluo felt that something was even more off. Did this young woman think she had amnesia or something?
Chi Junluo wrote: I don't know.
Yi Shuhan nodded and continued, "Do you know who I am?"
Chi: ...
Maybe she should just say she had amnesia? But thinking back to the name she had seen earlier, which was likely this young woman's name, she wrote the two characters "Yi Huai" on the light screen.
Yi Shuhan had already lost hope. Chi Chi definitely had amnesia. She gave a self-deprecating laugh. With 99% damage to the ninth region of her brain, how could she possibly be fine? She shouldn't deceive herself any longer. However, seeing Chi Chi write out the name "Yi Huai," her expression became complicated. "I suppose I should be happy. At least you haven't become a complete fool."
Chi Junluo watched as the young woman sighed after speaking, and she felt the vein in her temple throb again.
Yi Shuhan sank into her own world of sorrow. Her good friend, Chi Chi, might never recover.
Chi Chi really had amnesia. The miracle had saved Chi Chi's life, but it couldn't save her memories. Yi Shuhan suddenly felt a sense of loneliness. Even though that person was sitting right beside her, she was the only one who remembered everything from the past, as if it had never existed.
With her amnesia, Chi Chi wouldn't remember how they first met, got to know each other, or became close friends. She wouldn't remember their late-night heart-to-heart talks, nor what she liked and disliked. She wouldn't surprise her on her birthday anymore, and she wouldn't...
Seeing the person before her suddenly become so dejected, Chi Junluo wondered if she had said something wrong and touched upon a sore subject.
Logically, when she arrived in a world, the Heavenly Dao would arrange an identity for her that was close to the heroine. This young woman's surname was also Yi. Maybe she knew something?
With that thought, Chi Junluo began writing furiously on the light screen. She checked it over to make sure she hadn't misspelled the heroine's name, then handed it to Yi Shuhan.
The light screen suddenly appeared before Yi Shuhan, pulling her back from her thoughts. She had lost control of her emotions. She had been out of line. Wasn't she being too greedy? The fact that Chi Chi was still alive was already the best possible outcome!
She shifted her attention back to the light screen and froze. On it was written, "Excuse me, do you know a girl named Yi Shuhan?"
Yi Shuhan's fingers, gripping the light screen, turned white from the force. What did this mean? Could it be that Chi Chi still remembered her, but just couldn't recognize her?
Yi Shuhan steadied herself. She turned her head and handed the light screen back. "Why do you ask?"
Seeing no sign of repulsion or disgust on the face of this young woman named Yi Huai, Chi Junluo felt slightly relieved. She chose her words carefully and wrote again, "I think I'm looking for her." After a moment, she added, "I don't remember anything, but I remember this name. She must be very important to me."
After writing this, Chi Junluo hesitated again. She could tell this young woman cared a lot about her. But would it be too awful to say she had amnesia and that someone else was very important to her?
So, she earnestly added another sentence: "Although I don't remember you, I can feel that you are also very important to me." All that concern, anxiety, and crying didn't seem fake. This young woman didn't seem like a scheming bitch, so she probably wasn't an enemy of her original self, right?
Yi Shuhan looked at the words on the light screen and raised an eyebrow. The words "scum woman" almost escaped her lips. If her own name wasn't Yi Shuhan, and if they hadn't been through so much together as the best of friends, seeing that sentence, followed by the one that sounded like she was two-timing, would have made her cough up blood from anger.
So what kind of bizarre situation was this? Her best friend had amnesia, had forgotten the entire world, yet she somehow remembered her name. But she had forgotten that the person standing right in front of her was the friend she was looking for. So her best friend was asking her if she knew herself, and on top of that, she had just sent her a classic line from the scum woman's handbook.
Right now, Yi Shuhan felt both angry and amused. She suddenly wanted to see what Chi Chi planned to do next.
"I know her. Yi Shuhan, the only daughter of the head of our Yi Family."
Seeing that Yi Shuhan didn't seem angry and had even taken the initiative to reveal the heroine's identity in this world, Chi Junluo felt pleased with her clever move, completely oblivious to the fact that her joyful expression while using her savior to inquire about another person made her look like a scum woman.
Chi Junluo took the light screen from Yi Shuhan and started writing again. "Then what's your relationship with her? Can you take me to see her?"
Yi Shuhan's heart was filled with a mix of emotions. She looked at Chi Junluo and said faintly,
"Our relationship is not good. We are rivals in love."
