Against the Light - Chapter 92
Chapter 92: Just Fighting Over the Blanket
That evening, everyone gathered at Xinran's house for a small get-together. The yard was spacious, with more than enough room. The usually stingy director's team had, for once, set up a barbecue grill and bought half a lamb to treat everyone.
Wei Zhan took on the role of barbecue master, and the lamb he grilled looked quite professional.
The program staff were conducting on-site interviews.
Gu Xinran and Bai Yilan sat to one side, looking at their personal cameraman.
"Sister Ran, you'll be leaving here soon. Will you be a little sad to go?"
"Of course. This place holds so many wonderful memories for Yilan and me." As Gu Xinran spoke, she glanced back at the small wooden house not far away. At night, the surrounding lanterns would light up, and sitting on the second-floor balcony to watch the stars created a particularly wonderful atmosphere.
"Will this place be preserved?"
"The production team had a last-minute discussion yesterday. We're going to try to have this wooden house preserved."
A warmth spread through Gu Xinran's heart. "Thank you so much. If we have the chance, shall we come back to visit?" she asked, seeking Yilan's agreement.
"Okay." Bai Yilan nodded, placing her hand in Gu Xinran's.
"Sister Ran, Teacher Bai, the show is about to end. We've selected some questions from netizens that have received a lot of attention. Would you two be willing to listen?"
"Sure, go ahead and ask."
"First question: when do you two plan to remarry?"
They were both slightly taken aback. What a direct question right from the start.
"Soon, soon." Gu Xinran unconsciously pursed her lips into a light smile and squeezed Yilan's hand.
【Ahhh, just remarry already! Hurry up!】
【I've brought the Civil Affairs Bureau to you!】
【Wuwuwu, I believe in love again.】
"Second question: who do you think loves the other more deeply?"
The two of them looked at each other.
"I think, for us, it's impossible to measure who loves more. We love each other equally. We'd die for each other."
Bai Yilan watched her quietly and nodded gently.
【That was so well said. Love can't be measured. Arguing about who loves more or less is completely meaningless.】
【They'd die for each other!!!】
【They've been through so much. I believe they will truly cherish each other this time.】
【Your love makes me envious. I hope you can be happy forever.】
"That's wonderful. Last question: can you openly show some affection for everyone to see?"
They both paused, their gazes simultaneously drifting to the other's lips. Then, in unison, they swallowed, amused by each other's reaction.
"Showing affection in front of the camera is a bit too embarrassing. How about…" Bai Yilan was a little hesitant, especially with the camera pointed at her.
"Next time?" Gu Xinran immediately chimed in to help.
"No way!" the cameraman flatly refused. What next time?!
【Ahhh, no! Wives, kiss! Cameraman, go press their heads together! What is there to discuss!!】
【You're about to remarry, what's there to be shy about? Kiss! Kiss for me now, ahhh!】
The two looked at each other again.
Gu Xinran suddenly pouted and blew an air kiss to Yilan.
"???" The cameraman was about to protest.
"An air kiss is still a kiss!" Gu Xinran shot back.
"Exactly," Bai Yilan added from the side. The two of them, in perfect sync, had the cameraman completely flustered.
"Hey, the meat's ready! Time to eat!" Wei Zhan called out. Hearing this, the two immediately seized the opportunity to escape.
【…】
【Will I ever see them kiss in my lifetime?】
【Heh, I'm completely unfazed. I knew it would turn out like this.】
【Agreed. If these two ever kiss in public, I'll perform eating a keyboard for everyone here :)】
【Actually, everyone doesn't need to get hung up on whether they kiss in public. These past few days, they've been giving us sweet moments every day! Every day when I open the live stream and see Sister Ran building the house, Teacher Bai is almost always behind her, watching her silently with such a gentle gaze! When Sister Ran had Teacher Bai chat with the chicken to hurry it to lay an egg, it seemed a bit mischievous, but my understanding is that she didn't want Teacher Bai to do heavy labor and was afraid she'd get too tired. But if she did nothing at all on a show like this that requires you to work for your keep, it would definitely attract complaints from the audience. That's why she came up with that plan. She's always thinking about Teacher Bai in every way. Isn't that sweet enough?】
【I agree with the comment above. The sweet moments I see have never been as superficial as a kiss or a hug. Their hearts and eyes are full of each other. This kind of love and care for one another permeates every corner of their lives, reflected in every tiny detail. At least for these past few days, I've been watching the show with a fond, knowing smile every day. It warms my heart.】
【That's right, I've also been watching with a fond smile every day. This show has been my reason for living these past few days. Now that it's over, I'm so sad to see it go T^T】
【Thank you, Sister Ran. Thank you, Teacher Bai, for showing us the most beautiful side of love.】
【Thank you!】
In the bullet comment section, no one was fussing over whether they had actually kissed. It was a stream of thank-you messages, thanking the two for showing everyone what love should be.
Dinner came to an end.
Everyone walked up to the camera and waved to the audience. Gu Xinran clapped the slate, announcing the end of the live broadcast.
The scene cut to the studio, where the three commentators were also filled with emotion, each sharing their final thoughts.
After days of observation, the other two commentators had come to accept that Gu Xinran and Bai Yilan were truly in love. Their tone had changed completely from the beginning, and by the end, they were full of praise for the couple's way of interacting.
Once the three had finished their commentary, the show officially concluded. The host came on stage to give a closing speech, but the audience was reluctant to leave. Even after the screen went black, the bullet comments were still buzzing with discussions about the interesting events of the past few days.
Back at the recording site, the staff were dismantling the cameras, and the guests were packing their own luggage.
Gu Xinran and Bai Yilan were helping Yu Hua and the others pack. When she saw the wool mattress, Gu Xinran discussed it with the director's team, then had it packed up, ready to take home.
Gu Xinran went into the yard to say goodbye to the animals one by one. She had grown quite fond of the bald sheep and the Camera Chicken. Right now, she was stroking the little sheep's head, her face full of reluctance.
"Xinran? Ready to go?" Bai Yilan called out. Seeing her somewhat dazed expression, she walked over and patted her gently. "Don't worry, the production team will take good care of these animals. They're all protected animals now. And this Camera Chicken is a hero in the eyes of the netizens." Bai Yilan chuckled lightly as she looked at each of them.
Gu Xinran didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She turned back for one last, deep look at the wooden house.
"Let's go." She turned and took Yilan's hand, no longer lingering. After all, for her, any place with Yilan was a place worth cherishing.
The two shared a car with Yu Hua. They dropped her off at her home first before returning to Xinran's house.
As they stepped inside, there was a surprising sense of unfamiliarity.
Gu Xinran went into the bathroom to run a bath. When she came out, she saw Yilan leaning against the sofa, drowsy and on the verge of sleep, a look of exhaustion on her face.
Gu Xinran tiptoed to the sofa, knelt down, and carefully reached out, wanting to help Yilan change her clothes. She had just undone one button when Yilan's eyelids fluttered open.
"You keep sleeping. I'll help you change," Gu Xinran said softly.
Bai Yilan chuckled. "What, are you going to help me bathe, too?"
Gu Xinran's fingers paused. It seemed… that wasn't out of the question? At the thought, her face couldn't help but flush as an image of Yilan's impressive figure immediately appeared in her mind.
Noticing the blush on her cheeks and her unconscious, mischievous smile, Bai Yilan raised an eyebrow. She pressed her right index finger against Gu Xinran's forehead and tapped it twice. "Don't get any ideas."
"I wasn't…" Gu Xinran muttered under her breath. She quickly composed herself, stood up, and fetched a set of pajamas. "You should go take a bath first. You can sleep well after."
"Mm." Bai Yilan stretched lazily, her body languid, and let out several yawns in a row.
Gu Xinran walked over and swept her up into her arms. "I think I will help you bathe~"
"Hey! Gu Xinran! Put me down, you…!"
The next morning, the two of them slept in.
Bai Yilan rolled over and snuggled into Gu Xinran's embrace, her forehead resting against Gu Xinran's lips, unwilling to open her eyes.
Gu Xinran wrapped an arm around her waist, patting her gently. She blinked her eyes open and pulled the blanket up to cover Bai Yilan, afraid she might catch a cold.
Bai Yilan shook her head slightly, nuzzling her cheek and waking her up a bit more. Gu Xinran stroked Yilan's head, rubbing it gently, and pressed her lips against her eyes. "It's still early. Sleep a little longer, hmm?"
The words had barely left her mouth when, before Bai Yilan could respond, the phone rang.
Gu Xinran sighed, propped herself up against the headboard, and glanced at her phone. It was already eleven o'clock. She answered the call.
"Sister Qi, what's up?" Just as Gu Xinran finished speaking, she noticed Yilan had rolled over, wrapping the entire blanket around herself and leaving her completely exposed. She couldn't help but laugh as she started to fight with Yilan for the blanket.
"Xinran, are you home?"
"Ah, yeah," Gu Xinran replied, then burst out laughing when Yilan suddenly poked her in a ticklish spot.
"What's wrong? What are you doing?" Qu Qi asked curiously.
"Nothing. What's up? Hiss…"
Just as Qu Qi was about to get to the point, she heard something strange on the other end of the line. There were many odd noises, as well as the inexplicable laughter of two people…
The laughter was sometimes loud, sometimes light, and occasionally very soft, like a coquettish complaint…
The more Qu Qi listened, the more it felt wrong. Her mind instantly conjured up a strange and dramatic scene! She swallowed unconsciously. Was she… listening to a live broadcast?
Although she felt it was rude to eavesdrop… she just couldn't help it. She even found herself silently holding her breath, afraid of being discovered!
"Still want to mess around?" Xinran's voice came through the receiver, tinged with the joy of victory.
"No… no more…" Yilan's voice was much weaker in comparison, and she sounded out of breath!
"Aren't you on the phone? Get to it!"
"Right, I forgot." As Gu Xinran spoke, her voice seemed to get closer to the microphone. "Sister Qi? Still there?"
"Ah, yes. You guys… finished so quickly?"
"Huh??"
