After Escaping Marriage - Chapter 133

Chapter 133

Chapter 133

For this banquet, Song Qingrou had specially sent Yu Qingtang an evening gown.

Yu Qingtang knew the importance of this banquet. It represented not only her personally but also Cheng Zhanxi and the entire Cheng family. After being an invisible person in the Wei family for so many years, it was time for her to clear her name and hold her head high.

Yu Qingtang didn't care about these empty titles, but as Cheng Zhanxi said, living in this world, some things couldn't be avoided just because you didn't care. If you wanted to solve things once and for all and save yourself trouble in the future, you had to fight for what you deserved. If she couldn't win, the Cheng family behind her would fight for her.

Song Qingrou also said to count the Song family in. Commander Song was old but vigorous; a stomp of his foot would make the whole city tremble. Who would dare bully his granddaughter-in-law? This made Yu Qingtang both amused and deeply moved. She felt like a child bullied at school who, after telling her parents, had the whole family rush to the school to seek justice for her.

She didn't have such a childhood, but today, more than twenty years later, she had received more and warmer love than ordinary people.

Cheng Zhanxi was cooking in the kitchen when Yu Qingtang suddenly walked in and kissed her.

Cheng Zhanxi's lips felt warm, her eyes a little dazed.

Yu Qingtang smiled. "Nothing." It's just that I suddenly feel I love you very much.

Cheng Zhanxi kissed her back and said, "Dinner's almost ready. You can go wait outside."

Yu Qingtang didn't leave. She hugged Cheng Zhanxi's waist from behind, following her back and forth in front of the stove, watching her cook.

Cheng Zhanxi plated the last dish, turned off the stove, and tilted her head slightly. Yu Qingtang understood and kissed her, a moment of tacit understanding and warmth.

This banquet was a birthday celebration. The pretext wasn't important; to give face to the Tian family, more than half of the Capital City's prominent figures went to offer their congratulations. Cheng Zhanxi jokingly told Yu Qingtang that this was basically the invitation list for their engagement party, so she could get acquainted with people in advance.

Old Master Tian's birthday banquet was a rare grand event in the Capital City recently. For some people, such an occasion was a good opportunity to showcase themselves.

For example, Wei Jiu, Wei Zhiling of the Wei family.

Wei Zhiling had started preparing for this banquet even before the invitations were sent out. She wasn't young anymore, twenty-four or twenty-five, and it was time to prepare for her marriage. Someone like Wei Jiu, who held herself in high regard, looked down on those with lower status and identity than her. Appearance, family background, knowledge, and conversation all had to be top-notch. Such occasions were where one found the most eligible young talents from well-matched families.

Although she usually loved to play around, she also knew that those profligate sons of rich families were not worth entrusting her life to. The man Wei Zhiling wanted to marry, of course, had to be a dragon among men; dandies were not good enough for her.

Pearl necklaces and earrings were piled up inside and outside the boxes on the dressing table. Wei Zhiling was irritably taking off the necklace from her neck, tossing it on the table, and asking the servant beside her, "Is this all the jewelry I have? Aren't there any new ones?"

The servant lowered her head.

Wei Zhiling pushed the box forward, got up angrily, and left.

At the door, she turned her head, stared at the servant, and said, "Put these things away properly for me. If even one piece is missing, I'll hold you responsible."

Wei Zhiling swept her sleeves and left.

At the entrance, she bumped into the back of Wei Minglan. Wei Minglan was holding a small shovel, seemingly heading towards the courtyard.

"Eighth Sister," Wei Zhiling called out to her.

Wei Minglan turned around.

Wei Zhiling strode forward, snatched the small shovel from her hand, threw it aside, and linked her arm with Wei Minglan's, shaking it. "Eighth Sister, Eighth Sister, come shopping with me, okay?"

Wei Minglan glanced at the small shovel on the ground and said gently, "Shopping for what?"

Wei Zhiling pouted, "To buy jewelry. I don't have any necklaces to wear, nor earrings or rings. None of them look good."

Wei Minglan said, "Is it for Old Master Tian's birthday banquet?"

Wei Zhiling said, "Yes, Dad told me to dress up nicely and stun everyone there."

Wei Minglan sneered inwardly.

With the Wei family's genes, Wei Zhiling wasn't ugly; she could be described as having delicate features. But in such a grand occasion, she wouldn't stand out enough. I wonder if Yu Qingtang will go? If she goes, she's the one who truly wouldn't need any elaborate attire to make a stunning impression. Unfortunately, Wei Minglan wasn't qualified to attend the banquet and couldn't witness the excitement.

The Tian family sent separate invitations to the Wei family: one for Old Master Wei, and one each for the eldest and second branches. Wei Tingshu, from the fourth branch, didn't even have an invitation himself, let alone his daughter.

Wei Minglan was inwardly scornful but outwardly agreed with a smile, "Congratulations in advance for stunning everyone."

Wei Zhiling then seemed to realize something and said, "Eighth Sister, can't you attend Old Master Tian's birthday banquet?"

Wei Minglan didn't miss the hint of smugness in her eyes and feigned a bitter smile, "That's right."

Wei Zhiling said, "Come with me. I'll tell Dad; it's fine to bring a female companion."

Wei Minglan held her hand, feigning emotion, "Thank you, Xiao Jiu."

Wei Zhiling said, "Then you can accompany me to pick out jewelry now, right?"

Wei Minglan said, "Alright."

They went to the mall they usually frequented, the same one where they had encountered Yu Qingtang and Song Qingrou last time. Wei Zhiling initially didn't want to go, but then felt that not going would make it seem like she was afraid of Yu Qingtang. She was wrestling with herself, and Wei Minglan couldn't be bothered to expose her.

On the way, Wei Zhiling gloatingly mentioned Yu Qingtang again, saying that the Cheng family's wedding invitations hadn't been sent out yet, and no one had come to their door. The marriage was most likely off, and she was waiting to see Yu Qingtang become a laughingstock.

Wei Minglan didn't understand why Wei Zhiling was so hostile towards Yu Qingtang. Perhaps it was because she had been pampered and doted on since childhood, and Yu Qingtang's constant disregard for her made her feel offended. Or maybe she was just bored and using her for amusement. Wei Minglan didn't want to delve into the thought processes of someone like her, who had been spoiled rotten by her family and seemed to have straw for brains.

Night.

Wei Jinglan escorted her younger sister back to her room and then knocked on the door of her father's study.

The Wei family's Second Uncle, Wei Tinglan, said, "Come in."

Wei Jinglan entered, and coincidentally, her twin brother Wei Jingfeng was also there. He said, "Jiejie."

Wei Jingfeng was handsome, with sword-like eyebrows and star-like eyes, a very proper kind of beauty. Wei Jinglan went over, ruffled his hair, and sat down beside him.

Wei Tinglan often had a beaming smile that made people feel he was insincere. At this moment, sitting in a single armchair, wearing a black Tang suit, his gaze towards his son and daughter was kind, a significant difference from usual.

Wei Jinglan said, "I just went to see Uncle San. His spirits are getting worse and worse. I'm afraid he really won't make it to next New Year."

Wei Tinglan asked Wei Jingfeng, "Any news of your Seventh Sister?"

Wei Jingfeng said, "She's been in the Capital City recently. A while ago, she had a conflict with Xiao Jiu at the mall. Mrs. Cheng arrived in time and taught Xiao Jiu a lesson."

Wei Jinglan's gaze was subtle. "How do you know such gossip?"

Wei Jingfeng rubbed his nose sheepishly and said, "I heard it by chance."

"What kind of chance?"

"Jiejie, don't ask."

Wei Tinglan smiled as he watched his children bicker.

After a while, he said, "So, the eldest branch has offended the Cheng family?"

Wei Jingfeng was slightly surprised. "Dad, isn't that a bit of an exaggeration?" To say she represented the eldest branch, how was Wei Zhiling qualified? At least it should be her older brother, Wei Baiyang, who could barely be considered half of the eldest branch.

A smile played on Wei Tinglan's lips. "You're still young; it's normal not to know some things. When dealing with the Cheng family, no matter how fierce the competition is in business, don't offend them privately."

Wei Jinglan said thoughtfully, "It seems Eldest Uncle has said something similar."

Wei Tinglan added, "The Cheng family are all protective of their own, especially the younger generation. If you hit the young one, the old ones will come. If an old one leaves, even older ones will appear. If you really pick a fight, they don't care if their methods are honorable or not; ganging up is a common occurrence. Besides, Commander Song behind Mrs. Cheng, Song Qingrou, that family is not to be trifled with."

Wei Jingfeng clicked his tongue. "Is it that exaggerated?"

Wei Tinglan said slowly, "That's why I say you're young. You'll see in the future. Xiao Feng, find out where you heard this from, get the details clear, and tell me. It's best not to miss any details."

Wei Jingfeng nodded. "Got it, Dad."

Wei Tinglan bent his knuckles and tapped his knee rhythmically, the corners of his lips curling up. "This time, even heaven is helping me."

Neither the brother nor sister understood.

Wei Tinglan unhurriedly enlightened them, "I can't beat your Eldest Uncle alone, and likewise, he can't beat me. Both of us will inevitably seek external support. With Qingtang married into the Cheng family, the Cheng family becomes our in-laws. Their likes and dislikes aren't important now, but at a critical moment, the effect of that little bit of friction will be unimaginable."

The brother and sister exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with doubt.

Could a small conflict between Wei Jiu and Yu Qingtang really have such a big impact?

What kind of family was the Cheng family, really?

And why did they suddenly feel a bit envious of such a protective family atmosphere?

Wei Tinglan stopped tapping his knee and asked Wei Jinglan, "Is Xiao Shi'er asleep?"

Wei Jinglan said, "She was watching cartoons when I left, so she probably isn't asleep."

"Alright, I've finished my work too." Wei Tinglan stood up. "I'll go spend some time with her."

The three of them left the study one by one. Wei Jingfeng and Wei Jinglan went for a walk in the garden. Wei Jingfeng said, "When I came home from work today, I saw Eighth Sister returning from shopping with Xiao Jiu."

Wei Jinglan sneered, "Accompanying her shopping or waiting on her?"

Wei Jingfeng was silent.

After a long while, he sighed and said, "Luckily, I have you, Jiejie."

Although he was a boy and taller than Wei Zhiling, he had also been bullied by her in childhood. Wei Zhiling had her brother Wei Baiyang help, and they bullied him together. Wei Jinglan rushed out and fought two against one, like a mother hen protecting her chicks, fierce and formidable, and actually won.

Old Master Wei never bothered with these matters, and Eldest Uncle turned a blind eye. Later, when their father, Wei Tinglan, gradually gained status in the company, the siblings' situation improved. Now, Wei Jingfeng had become the grandson Old Master Wei valued most, and Wei Jinglan also held a position in the company. Even Eldest Uncle didn't dare to look down on them.

The Wei family was a Darwinian jungle society.

Wei Zhiling might have long forgotten the childhood incidents, but Wei Jingfeng, Wei Jinglan, and their father would always remember.

Wei Jinglan squeezed the young man's wrist and said, "What gift are you planning to give for Seventh Sister's wedding? Let me use it as a reference."

Wei Jingfeng smiled. "No way, think of it yourself."

Wei Jinglan pinched the bridge of her nose and said, "Alright, I'll think about it some more."

Whether Yu Qingtang cared or not was her business; whether they gave a gift or not was their sentiment.

The moon was high in the sky.

On the way back from the garden, Wei Jinglan suddenly complained, "Is Seventh Sister marrying the older brother or the younger sister? It's been so long, and they haven't even visited. No sincerity at all."

Wei Jingfeng said, "The Cheng family will definitely attend this banquet. We can ask then?"

"Fine." Wei Jinglan still said, "Really, what happened to being protective of their own?"

Wei Jingfeng laughed.

Old Master Tian's birthday banquet arrived in a flash.

Yu Qingtang spent a few days at home cramming banquet etiquette. On the day, she changed into the evening gown Song Qingrou had given her. In the evening, holding Cheng Zhanxi's arm, she bent down and got into a black extended-length Phantom.

The pure black sedan moved smoothly through the traffic. Nearby cars spontaneously kept their distance, afraid of scratching its paint.

A luxuriously lit villa, the fountain in the center of the lawn like a series of rainbows under the lights. A red carpet stretched from the entrance inwards, seemingly endless. At the door, handsome attendants in white shirts and brown vests respectfully accepted ornate invitations, welcoming one splendidly dressed guest after another.

A few steps inside, a melodious violin concerto drifted into the ears, making the guests feel comfortable both physically and mentally.

Champagne glasses were stacked into a multi-tiered tower, and exquisite desserts exuded an enticing aroma.

People nodded in greeting or chatted enthusiastically. With an hour still to go before the banquet officially began, the hall was already filled with fragrant clothes and elegant figures, a gathering of socialites and dignitaries.

Wei Zhiling entered, arm in arm with her father, Wei Tingzhi. A black evening gown accentuated the lines of her collarbones and arms. She held her chin slightly raised, meeting the gazes of the crowd in the hall.

"President Wei."

"This must be President Wei's daughter, truly a natural beauty."

"President Wei's daughter has grown so much! A girl changes significantly by eighteen."

"Zhiling is even more beautiful than the last time I saw her," a bejeweled noblewoman complimented.

Wei Zhiling lowered her head shyly.

The noblewoman smiled. "Why are you shy after just a couple of compliments?"

Wei Tingzhi said, "Young girls are thin-skinned." He patted Wei Zhiling's hand and coaxed his daughter softly, "Go play on the side."

Wei Zhiling said coquettishly, "No, I want to stay with Dad."

If she left Wei Tingzhi, no one would know her. Only by being with Wei Tingzhi could others see her and could she enjoy their praise.

The noblewoman naturally commented again on how good the father-daughter relationship was, expressing envy and so on.

Wei Zhiling snuggled her face against her father's shoulder.

She followed Wei Tingzhi and met many people, including outstanding young members of various families. Wei Tingzhi was also intentionally looking for a good son-in-law, so he created opportunities for the young people. Standing before Wei Zhiling was a young man wearing glasses, in a formal tailcoat. He had a tall, straight figure. Although his appearance wasn't outstanding, it was passable. He was the only son of the X family and would inherit the family business in the future.

Wei Zhiling held the stem of her champagne flute between her thumb and forefinger, tilted the rim slightly, and elegantly clinked glasses with the young man.

A few more people entered the banquet hall, and a trace of annoyance flashed in Wei Zhiling's eyes.

The smiling Wei Tinglan from the second branch arrived with his son and daughter. Wei Jinglan, in a lavender evening gown with her hair elegantly pinned up, entered side by side with her brother. In an instant, she attracted the attention of the young men in the hall, including the one in front of Wei Zhiling. Although he only turned his head to look for a few seconds before turning back, it still made Wei Zhiling unhappy.

As soon as the young man looked at her, Wei Zhiling quickly concealed her thoughts, feigning the demeanor of a well-bred, knowledgeable young lady.

The two continued their conversation.

From the corner of her eye, Wei Zhiling watched Wei Jinglan. Wei Jinglan moved through the banquet hall alone, like a fish in water. Without her needing to approach anyone, several handsome young men came up to talk to her, even more handsome than the one before her.

Wei Zhiling was distracted and found the young man before her even more uninteresting. Making an excuse, she left her champagne glass on the table and went to find her father.

Seeing someone she considered the most handsome at the moment, she had Wei Tingzhi take her over and, as she wished, started chatting with him.

The person in front of Wei Jinglan changed to a middle-aged man in his forties.

Wei Zhiling sneered inwardly. She'll even take someone in his forties. Truly desperate.

Wei Jinglan exchanged business cards with the middle-aged man, her eyes shrewd. "President Li, please look after me in the future."

President Li smiled. "Certainly, certainly."

Wei Jinglan moved gracefully, like weaving through flowers and willow branches, towards the next person, using this opportunity to expand her network.

President Li, however, squinted at her retreating figure. He had thought it was remarkable enough for the Wei family to have the shrewd and capable Wei Tinglan of the second branch. He hadn't expected both his son and daughter to be formidable individuals. With Old Master Wei gone, it was still unknown into whose hands the Wei family would fall. Even if the eldest branch gained power, a fierce struggle would be inevitable. When the snipe and the clam grapple, perhaps these fishermen could reap some benefits.

A profound glint flashed in President Li's eyes, and his lips curled. He put Wei Jinglan's business card into his suit pocket.

Thinking of the person most likely to benefit, President Li turned his head towards the entrance of the banquet hall and asked his closest old friend, "Has Chairman Cheng arrived?"

The other person said, "Not yet."

The signs of the Wei family's decline had long been noticed by these sharp-nosed businessmen. They hadn't made a move yet, firstly because the time wasn't right, and secondly, because there was no word from Cheng Yi's side.

President Li mused, "You say the two families are forming a marriage alliance. Does the third branch also want a piece of the pie?"

The old friend took a sip from his champagne flute, shook his head, and said, "Who knows?" With a faint, ambiguous smile, he added, "In my opinion, the Cheng family was preparing for a rainy day, making their move early. Now it's time to reel in the net."

President Li's expression turned cold.

The marriage alliance between the Cheng and Wei families, before Wei Tingzhi and Wei Tinglan started their fight, the Wei family still maintained a superficial peace. Most people treated it as idle gossip after tea and meals, forgetting it once discussed. Trivial matters like who Miss Wei was, or Seventh Miss Wei and her cousin arguing in a mall with Song Qingrou standing up for her daughter-in-law, were only gossiped about by the idle rich ladies in the Capital. Now it was different; countless eyes were fixed on this marriage.

To put it more seriously, this concerned the entire Wei family. If Cheng Yi wanted to swallow the Wei family whole, others would absolutely not agree.

Half an hour before the banquet, a sudden commotion spread from the entrance of the banquet hall inwards.

The old friend nudged President Li's arm. His champagne flute paused at his lips, his gaze stunned, and he murmured, "Chairman Cheng is here."

President Li thought to himself, Is this the first time you've seen Cheng Yi? You look like you've never seen the world.

President Li focused his gaze and his expression also froze.

Cheng Yi and Song Qingrou were famously devoted to each other, often attending banquets together, and had appeared in magazines more than once. Their son, Cheng Yuanxi, was now the company's general manager and was familiar with everyone present. Although their daughter, Cheng Zhanxi, didn't appear often, the uncles had watched her grow up, and her peers mostly knew her. At most, they would be impressed by her beauty, but never surprised.

Everyone's gaze simultaneously turned to the woman on Cheng Zhanxi's arm, with dark hair and red lips, approaching gracefully.

She wore a pure white off-the-shoulder long gown. Her collarbones were exquisitely delicate. The beautifully curved bodice cinched a slender waist that seemed as if it couldn't withstand a grasp. Her dark hair was entirely swept up, revealing a long, slender, snow-white swan-like neck. A silver pendant necklace reflected a clear, cold light, adding to her cool elegance.

The fabric of the skirt was so white it seemed almost transparent, with layers of intricate patterns, whiter than snow. The hem, made of light gauze, was adorned with sparkling diamonds that shimmered with her steps. The banquet lights shone on her, creating halos of white light, making her look like a fairy from the clouds.

Everyone present involuntarily closed their eyes and then opened them again, holding their breath, watching the woman approach step by step.

A question arose in everyone's mind: Who is she?

At the same time, an answer was on the tip of their tongues, clamoring in their minds—

That Seventh Miss Wei, whose name was known but whose face had never been seen!

The frozen air began to flow again, but the commotion in the banquet hall grew even louder.

That unbelievably beautiful woman, shining in the center of the crowd, she was Seventh Miss Wei.

Cheng Yi and the rest of his party seemed to be momentarily forgotten.

"She's so beautiful, no wonder the Cheng siblings fought over her." This was from the gossipmongers.

"Seventh Miss Wei actually attended the banquet as a member of the Cheng family, what does this mean..." This was from the sharp-nosed ones.

There were also those whispering to each other, their eyes full of amazement.

"No wonder Seventh Miss Wei never showed her face. If she had appeared in the Capital City earlier, the threshold for marriage proposals would have been worn down, right?"

"Let alone being a Wei family member, even if she wasn't, her face alone is enough for her to marry into a wealthy family. She's even more beautiful than those female celebrities."

"I'd never heard of her before. Now she's truly made a stunning debut."

"Look at how the Cheng family treasures her. She's so lucky, it's beyond envy."

"Speaking of which, is she marrying the older brother or the younger sister? Why is she holding the younger sister's hand?"

"Yeah, wasn't it said she was marrying the older brother?"

The young man in front of Wei Zhiling recovered from his daze, said softly, "Excuse me," and then abandoned Wei Zhiling, heading towards Yu Qingtang without looking back.

Wei Zhiling almost crushed the stem of her champagne flute!

On what grounds?!

Wei Minglan, who was eating pastries alone in a corner, let out a long breath and smiled softly.

Yu Qingtang had really come.

"Dad~" She lifted her skirt and trotted over, hugging Wei Tingzhi's arm and complaining discontentedly, "Look at that mute..."

Wei Tingzhi withdrew his solemn gaze from the distance, looked down at his youngest daughter leaning on his shoulder, his eyes sterner than ever, and scolded, "How dare you speak like that! That's your cousin!"

"Dad... Dad?" Wei Zhiling was stunned.

Wei Tingzhi had no time to attend to her petty emotions now. In a commanding tone, he said, "Go greet your cousin later. You mustn't be impolite."

"I won't go!" Wei Zhiling stomped her foot and ran off.

She hadn't run more than a few steps when she bumped into a hard chest. Her older brother, Wei Baiyang, grabbed her wrist and said in a low voice, "Stop throwing a tantrum! This is not the time for your temper!"

Wei Zhiling's eyes were red with anger. "Brother!"

Wei Baiyang held her hand tightly and didn't let go.

Wei Zhiling slapped and hit his arm.

Wei Tingzhi relented, "Forget it. If she doesn't want to go, let her stay here."

Wei Tingzhi knew Wei Zhiling disliked Yu Qingtang. If her presence backfired later, it was better for her not to appear.

Wei Baiyang let go, his voice slightly cold. "Stay put. Don't run around."

Wei Tingzhi had just walked over and opened his mouth when he heard a cheerful "In-laws!" His face darkened; Wei Tinglan had beaten him to it again.

Wei Tinglan looked at Yu Qingtang standing beside Cheng Zhanxi and made small talk, "Qingtang, long time no see. I even dreamed about you a couple of days ago."

Towards this Second Uncle, who always had the demeanor of a smiling tiger, Yu Qingtang politely nodded and greeted him.

The siblings Wei Jinglan and Wei Jingfeng smiled and said in unison, "Seventh Sister."

When they appeared together, Yu Qingtang recognized them and nodded. "Fifth Sister, Sixth Brother."

Cheng Zhanxi glanced at Yu Qingtang in surprise.

Wei Jinglan looked her up and down and praised her sincerely, "You look very beautiful today."

Yu Qingtang returned a faint smile. "Thank you."

After the siblings left, Cheng Zhanxi asked her in a volume only the two of them could hear, "You seem to have a good impression of them?"

Yu Qingtang explained, "They didn't bully me when we were children."

Cheng Zhanxi was taken aback, and then her heart ached.

Just not bullying her, does that count as good?

Yu Qingtang added, "And they haven't shown any malice after growing up." After a pause, she added, "At least, I haven't seen any yet."

So, if they could coexist peacefully, then they would.

It was just a form of address; Yu Qingtang didn't take it too seriously.

On the other side, Wei Jingfeng and Wei Jinglan had a small dispute because of this.

Wei Jinglan tilted her chin up and smiled. "Seventh Sister called me first, did you hear that?"

Wei Jingfeng said, "Just because you were born a few minutes earlier than me, hmph."

Wei Jinglan said, "I don't care about that. Go ask the doctor."

Wei Jingfeng opened his mouth to retort but then saw a pair of venomous eyes in the depths of the crowd staring at Yu Qingtang.

He poked his sister's arm and said, "Is Wei Zhiling planning some mischief again?"

Wei Jinglan glanced over, then lazily withdrew her gaze. "Don't bother with her. If she dares to play tricks right under the Cheng family's nose, she's like an old man seeking longevity by hanging himself—courting death."

The two of them moved into the crowd.

Cheng Yi, Song Qingrou, and Cheng Yuanxi all needed to socialize. Cheng Zhanxi stayed by Yu Qingtang's side, feeding her various desserts with a fork and letting her taste champagne. Yu Qingtang was a poor drinker and could only touch it to her lips. Just as Yu Qingtang's lips touched the glass, Cheng Zhanxi moved the hand holding it away.

Yu Qingtang shot her a playful glare. "I haven't even tasted it yet."

Cheng Zhanxi handed it back, gently instructing, "Only a tiny sip, understand?"

Yu Qingtang said, "Understood." Then, unexpectedly, she grabbed Cheng Zhanxi's wrist, tilted the glass, and quickly took a sip.

Cheng Zhanxi: "..."

Yu Qingtang, having been mischievous, let out a soft laugh.

Cheng Zhanxi pinched her chin. "How did you learn to be so naughty now?"

Yu Qingtang raised an eyebrow slightly. "I learned it from you. Teacher Cheng, did I learn well?"

"Extremely well. Just wait and see how I'll deal with you when we get back."

"Hahaha."

Wei Zhiling watched the two of them flirting from not far away, grinding her teeth in hatred.

Finally, an opportunity arose when Yu Qingtang was alone, and Wei Zhiling immediately went over. Yu Qingtang was holding a small plate of fruit, looking at the person blocking her path.

Yu Qingtang's eyes turned cold. "Move."

Wei Zhiling had noticed that no Cheng family members were around, and at such a close distance, they couldn't possibly hear what she said to Yu Qingtang.

"What kind of love potion did you give the Cheng family?" Wei Zhiling said.

Yu Qingtang ignored her, tried to go around, but was blocked by Wei Zhiling again.

"Is it because of your face? Seducing the older brother first, then the younger sister? Or are both of them your devoted admirers?" Wei Zhiling lowered her voice, the malice in her tone undisguised.

Yu Qingtang looked at her, then over her shoulder into the distance.

Cheng Zhanxi had seen the situation here and was quickly rushing back.

Wei Zhiling sneered, "Are the Cheng family brainless? To be fooled by a mute like you? Or is it that your skills in bed are really that good, making..."

The crisp sound of a slap suddenly echoed in the banquet hall.

This was a quiet corner, far from the crowd. Others in the center of the hall merely turned their heads in confusion, then dismissed it when they couldn't find the source of the sound.

Wei Zhiling clutched her face, her eyes wide with disbelief. "You actually dared to hit me?" Even her father had never hit her!

Yu Qingtang calmly replied with an "Mm."

She actually dared to say "Mm"?!

Wei Zhiling's eyes were bloodshot. She raised her hand to strike back.

Yu Qingtang raised the glass of champagne she had only taken a sip from and poured it over Wei Zhiling's head from top to bottom.

"Excuse me." She politely put down the champagne flute, gave a faint smile, and gracefully walked towards Cheng Zhanxi, who was rushing over.
