ORCBRB – Chapter 29
Chapter 29
When Sang Shiyue received the call from the police station, he thought it was a scam call.
Seven or eight years ago, he had done his fair share of fighting and street racing, things that rich heirs did.
In recent years, after taking over the company, Sang Shiyue's temperament had gradually settled down, and such things were far behind him. When dealing with disagreeable business partners, he could still chat and laugh at the dinner table. Even if he was particularly dissatisfied, there was always a chance to get even in the business world.
He never imagined that he would one day be called to the police station as a guardian, and for his always well-behaved and obedient sister, Sang Shi'an.
When the police called, Sang Shiyue had just been persuaded to have a few drinks at a reception. The police mentioned words like "brawling" and "destruction of public property." Worried that Sang Shi'an was injured, he left in a hurry with his assistant without even saying goodbye.
On the way, the driver drove at nearly the speed limit. By the time they reached the police station, the lawyer Sang Shiyue had contacted had already arrived. Upon entering the station, the officer in charge of their case came forward to negotiate. Sang Shiyue left the matter to the lawyer and went inside to see Sang Shi'an first.
Sang Shi'an was kept in a small, separate room. When Sang Shiyue arrived, a female police officer was with her. At first glance, she didn't seem injured, and Sang Shiyue's anxious heart finally settled for the most part.
The female officer had been arranged through connections Sang Shiyue made on his way over. She left after seeing him.
The small room was less than ten square meters. Sang Shiyue, at 1.85 meters tall, had a strong presence just by standing there. He walked around Sang Shi'an twice, noticing she didn't dare to meet his gaze. Then he sat in the seat the female officer had occupied and took out a cigarette from his clothes.
The red glow of the cigarette burned quietly. After a long moment, he asked, "What happened?"
Sang Shi'an's heart skipped a beat. She opened her mouth but said nothing.
"Speak, Sang Shi'an." Sang Shiyue's voice was deep yet gentle. He threw the cigarette he had only taken two puffs of into the ashtray, extinguishing it mercilessly. When he looked at her again, his eyes held an unquestionable command.
"...I ran into someone while I was out, and we had a conflict." Sang Shi'an was being evasive.
Sang Shiyue said, "It wasn't a small conflict. I already asked someone on the way here."
"...Then why are you asking me?" Sang Shi'an lowered her head even further, her voice clearly lacking confidence.
Sang Shiyue stared at her for two seconds, then smiled. He reached out and patted Sang Shi'an's drooping head, tucking her long hair behind her ear, and sighed. "I haven't seen the other person yet, but I heard you smashed his head open. Blood all over the sofa. How did you get so capable? I'm starting to see you in a new light. Maybe you can teach your big brother a thing or two someday?"
Sang Shi'an's nose suddenly tingled. She finally lifted her eyelids to look at Sang Shiyue, only to meet a pair of smiling eyes. "Brother."
"Hey, I'm here." Sang Shiyue couldn't stand seeing her teary-eyed. He moved his chair next to her and softened his tone. "My little ancestor, you don't want to spend the night at the police station, do you? Come on, tell me about tonight's battle achievements."
"My friend asked me to go out. When I got there, I ran into Brother Ji Cheng, and he took me to their private room for a while."
Ji Cheng was one of Sang Shiyue's childhood friends and the man who had greeted Sang Shi'an at Ye Wenwen's birthday party a few days ago. He was around the same age as Jian Zhenyang and occasionally hung out with him. In fact, Sang Shi'an had gotten a tip-off today and had gone specifically to find Ji Cheng.
"I didn't expect to run into Jian Zhenyang there. He kept pestering me, slandering Cenyu Jiejie, and brought up your matters. He even tried to get me to cooperate with him to drive a wedge between us siblings. I got angry and argued with him."
Sang Shi'an carefully glanced at Sang Shiyue. "So, so, that's what happened."
"So you just happened to run into each other?"
"Yeah."
Jian Zhenyang had been swamped recently with matters of financing and going public. The few times he came to the company to see him, he was incredibly attentive. If he had really run into Sang Shi'an by chance and asked for her cooperation, he definitely wouldn't have dared to get physical.
Sang Shi'an had mentioned Jian Zhenyang again when she came to the company to see him yesterday. Even if Sang Shiyue hadn't thought about it that way when he arrived, worried about Sang Shi'an, he should have figured it out by now.
It was eighty percent likely that Sang Shi'an had deliberately provoked him.
Sang Shiyue took out his cigarette case again. Just as he was about to light one, Sang Shi'an snapped the lighter shut with a 'click'.
Sang Shiyue looked over. Sang Shi'an guiltily shrugged her shoulders. "Brother, you should smoke less. It's bad for your health."
Sang Shiyue put the cigarette back and went over the matter again. He hadn't noticed anything unusual about Sang Shi'an's strange behavior yesterday, and had always thought she didn't understand the Jian family's affairs.
Sang Shi'an tugged Sang Shiyue's sleeve twice and whispered, "I know I was wrong."
Sang Shiyue glanced at her. Sang Shi'an seized the opportunity to press on. "But Jian Zhenyang was even more out of line. Do you know what he did to our school's lab? Cenyu Jiejie and several seniors were injured, and two are still in the ICU."
Sang Shiyue knew it was because of this. "That's just your speculation. You didn't get hurt this time because your surname is Sang. What if next time someone doesn't give our family face?"
"I have proof." Sang Shi'an pulled up a recording on her phone. "He just admitted it."
Sang Shiyue: ...
Sang Shiyue was so angry he almost laughed. His initial patience gone, he stood up and scolded Sang Shi'an, "Did Jian Cenyu give you some kind of love potion? The Jian family hasn't even done anything, and you're already jumping to conclusions and sticking up for her?"
Sang Shi'an shrank back again. "...Then just let the police lock me up. You can go. I don't need you to handle this. Mom and Dad will definitely come get me."
"Give me the recording." Sang Shiyue pulled her up. "At least you're somewhat useful. When we go out later, just follow behind me and don't say a word, you hear?"
Hearing there was a chance, Sang Shi'an immediately sent the recording to Sang Shiyue and obediently replied, "Okay."
"So, can he go to jail now?"
Sang Shiyue listened to it and shook his head. "This matter also requires cooperation from Yanjing University. The lab building was sponsored by the Jian family. I'm afraid the Jian family won't agree."
Sang Shi'an was instantly dejected.
Sang Shiyue put away his phone and led her out. "You smashed his head open with a wine bottle. How was that for nothing? Besides, we just can't send him to jail. Holding this as leverage might be very useful in the future."
When Sang Shiyue brought Sang Shi'an over, the lawyer had already handled most of it. The police station had been taken care of in advance, so the matter could have been settled privately without any record. However, at the last step, Jian Zhenyang's side insisted on filing a case.
Jian Zhenyang's head was wrapped in several layers of white gauze, looking quite terrifying. People from the Jian family had also arrived—Jian Zhenyang's parents and younger brother. Their voices were extremely loud as they argued back and forth. The lawyer walked over to Sang Shiyue and reported, "The other party refuses to settle. They said CEO Sang has to negotiate personally."
"CEO Sang, your sister beat my brother up like this. It's not right if you don't give us an explanation, is it? If it weren't for the friendship between our two families, my brother would go to the hospital for an injury report and sue for intentional assault. Your sister would probably be locked up for several years."
Jian Zhenyang's younger brother, Jian Zhenming, was very agitated. He pointed a finger at Sang Shi'an, which Sang Shiyue calmly blocked.
"Miss Sang is a girl, and with such a pretty face, it wouldn't be appropriate to hit her back. You have to offer some compensation, right? My brother is the old master's favorite grandchild and is very likely to inherit the company in the future. What if this head injury has long-term consequences?"
Sang Shiyue: "What do you want?"
"My brother has been swamped with the Huaxing project recently. Now that he has to recover, it will inevitably delay the project." Jian Zhenming hinted.
Afraid Sang Shiyue would agree for her sake, Sang Shi'an cut in, "You're asking for too much! Don't even think about it!"
Jian Zhenming seemed to have expected her reaction. He raised his hands and laughed nonchalantly. "Miss Sang, don't be hasty. Let me finish first."
"If it were anyone else, they would of course have to compensate for my brother's project losses. But after all, the Sang and Jian families have a deep friendship, so how could I make such a demand? My brother's head was injured, and you can't be sure about long-term effects. To avoid you denying it later, please have Miss Sang take good care of my brother while he's hospitalized. Once he's recovered, we'll call it even, and we definitely won't make things difficult for you. How about it?"
"An'an has school. I'll find the best nurse to take care of your brother." Sang Shiyue made the arrangement for Sang Shi'an directly.
Jian Zhenming smiled, took a step forward, and lowered his voice to Sang Shiyue. "A few days ago, we heard from the old master that the Sang and Jian families are interested in a marriage alliance. I know you're not too keen on it, but it's not like our two families have no one else. Thanks to what happened today, you don't get to know someone without a fight. Isn't this fate?"
Sang Shiyue's face was expressionless. He turned his head and asked Sang Shi'an, "Did Jian Zhenyang say this kind of thing to you today too?"
Sang Shi'an nodded. "He did."
Sang Shiyue cursed under his breath, roughly loosened his tie twice, and then lunged at Jian Zhenyang's head, which was wrapped up like a rice dumpling.
By the time the Jian family reacted, Jian Zhenyang was already on the ground, screaming and begging for mercy. Jian Zhenming was held back by Ji Cheng, who had been watching from the side. In the entire police station, after hearing what had just been said, not a single officer stepped forward to help.
Only after Sang Shiyue had been beating him for half a minute did the police seem to notice the commotion and gather around.
"Let go! This is a police station!"
Sang Shiyue was pulled up by the police. Jian Zhenyang's face was so swollen his eyes were barely visible, and it seemed he had a broken tooth, as the blood wouldn't stop.
"Everyone saw it clearly. I'm the one who hit him this time." Sang Shiyue pulled Sang Shi'an to the station entrance and pushed her toward his assistant. "Take her to the car first. I'll come over after I'm done here."
Sang Shi'an was completely stunned. "Brother—"
Sang Shiyue: "Go, be good."
Ten minutes later, the door of the Maybach was pulled open. As soon as Sang Shiyue got in, Sang Shi'an grabbed him tightly. "Brother, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. The Jian family has done plenty of dirty deeds, selling out their own siblings. They thought I'd sell you out for profit too. I just asked Ji Cheng. I didn't expect Jian Zhenyang to be so disgusting as to have designs on you." Seeing that Sang Shi'an was quite frightened, Sang Shiyue explained what happened next. "Don't worry, they won't dare to blow this up. Otherwise, if it gets to Old Master Jian, would the Jian family still have any face left?"
Sang Shi'an hesitated. "...Really okay?"
"They don't dare to oppose me because I'm in charge of the company now." Sang Shiyue put it bluntly. "When you join the company in the future, this kind of thing will become commonplace."
Sang Shi'an seemed to understand and nodded twice. "So, they're worried you'll ruin other collaborations?"
Sang Shiyue told the driver to drive and continued speaking to Sang Shi'an. "The Jian family's business is currently divided into several sectors. A few of the projects Jian Zhenyang is in charge of are collaborations with us."
Sang Shi'an asked tentatively, "Then, Brother, should you reconsider your partners?"
Sang Shiyue said, "It's not as simple as you kids think. We can't just halt it immediately; it would harm many people's interests. But for future collaborations, I will consider it carefully."
A smile finally appeared on Sang Shi'an's face. Watching the car drive away from the police station, she asked, "Brother, this direction doesn't seem to be heading to Yanjing University, does it? Are you taking me home to stay? I have class tomorrow morning."
"Not going home," Sang Shiyue said. "You were so brave tonight, standing up for someone. Such a heroic deed can't be known only to me, right?"
A bad premonition suddenly surfaced in Sang Shi'an's heart.
Sang Shiyue looked at her, paused deliberately for two seconds, and smiled roguishly. "As the person you stood up for, I think Jian Cenyu will definitely be moved to tears by you."
