After Escaping Marriage - Chapter 102
Chapter 102
Yu Qingtang looked at her, her gaze traveling down inch by inch, observing the fair, slender fingers clasped around her own wrist. Then, she slowly lifted her eyelids, her eyes clear.
For no apparent reason, Cheng Zhanxi released her hand.
Yu Qingtang said gently, "Hmm?"
Cheng Zhanxi put on an impeccable smile and said, "Nothing, good night."
Yu Qingtang's expression softened further. "Good night."
Cheng Zhanxi watched with a smile as Yu Qingtang closed the door in front of her. A soft click, and she heard the sound of her own heart bleeding.
Yu Qingtang watched her through the peephole. Cheng Zhanxi maintained her smile, standing at the door for a good while before leaving.
But after looking at that smile for a long time, though the curve of her lips remained unchanged, there was a hint of stiffness.
Yu Qingtang lowered her gaze, caressing the wrist Cheng Zhanxi had touched. The burning heat from Cheng Zhanxi's palm still lingered there, making her heart feel scorching hot.
What did she want to do?
Yu Qingtang blinked her eyelashes gently. She seemed to know, yet she was too shy to guess.
When Cheng Zhanxi returned to 2102, the first thing she did was smack her own disappointing hand. She had already held it, why didn't she just bring her back in one go?
Cheng Zhanxi took a deep breath, calming herself in the living room and trying to convince herself.
On the first day of being together, there was nothing wrong with being reserved. This way, life could have surprises and changes every day; one shouldn't rush things.
Also, she had to wait at least two months before proposing, otherwise it would seem too frivolous, and Yu Qingtang definitely wouldn't accept it casually.
Cheng Zhanxi paced back and forth in the living room a few times, then calmly walked into the bathroom.
Half an hour later, she lay on her bed in the bedroom, never having felt from the bottom of her heart that the bed at home was so empty.
Before, she didn't have a girlfriend. Now she did, so why couldn't she sleep holding her girlfriend? Why did she have to sleep alone in an empty room?
She pondered arduously for a good while, then gritted her teeth.
Right, she had to be reserved.
A message from Yu Qingtang, sent ten minutes ago, lay quietly on her phone.
【I'm going to sleep, good night.】
Below it was Cheng Zhanxi's reply.
【Good night, baby.】
Cheng Zhanxi tossed and turned, then changed to lying on her stomach, propping herself up on her elbows on the pillow. She typed, deleted, and retyped in the input box, finally sending: 【Are you asleep?】
In the darkened bedroom, Yu Qingtang lay with her eyes closed, not feeling sleepy. Her phone on the nightstand vibrated once.
She immediately turned over and picked it up. Unlocking it, she found it was from the person she had been thinking of, and couldn't help but feel a surge of joy. However, she waited two minutes before replying: 【Not yet.】
[Cheng Zhanxi]: What are you doing?
[Yu Qingtang]: Trying to get sleepy.
Cheng Zhanxi didn't know what to reply.
Previously, when they were in that ambiguous "flowers in the mist" stage, Cheng Zhanxi always had ways to make the mist thinner, or to make the flower reveal its stamen to her. Now that the window paper was pierced, the flower was in her hand, yet she didn't know how to treat it carefully.
Should she add some clear water, nurture her until she was exquisitely beautiful, like the gardenias blooming at Yu Qingtang's home, blossoming to their fullest?
After several minutes, Yu Qingtang sent a question mark.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: Are you sleepy?
[Yu Qingtang]: I'm alright.
Cheng Zhanxi unconsciously put her left index finger in her mouth, leaving rows of messy, small teeth marks.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: Shall I chat with you?
[Yu Qingtang]: About what?
As the passive party, Yu Qingtang wasn't as conflicted. She answered whatever Cheng Zhanxi asked, lying on her side, one hand tucked under her neck against her cheek. The light from the phone screen illuminated her involuntarily curved eyebrows.
A sudden ringtone broke the silence of the bedroom.
Yu Qingtang saw the call invitation appear on the screen, quickly turned on the light to tidy herself up, then looked closely and realized it was a voice call invitation. While relieved, a faint sense of disappointment welled up.
Yu Qingtang pressed answer.
Cheng Zhanxi held the phone to her ear, unable to think of what to say, and after a long pause, murmured, "Hmm..."
Yu Qingtang: "Hmm?"
Cheng Zhanxi cleared her throat and said, "I just wanted to hear your voice."
Yu Qingtang thought: Is that all?
"We have work tomorrow," Yu Qingtang said.
Cheng Zhanxi's already lukewarm blood cooled another degree. "Then let's sleep. Good night."
"Good night," Yu Qingtang said in her heart: The third time tonight.
Half an hour later.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: Asleep?
[Yu Qingtang]: Not yet.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: Open the door.
Yu Qingtang shot up with a start, not even bothering to put on a jacket, and ran out of the room.
From the bedroom to the entryway, she straightened her pajamas in the entryway, quickly combed her long hair, tucking it behind her ears, revealing a clean and beautiful face.
Yu Qingtang adjusted her expression, a faint smile playing on her lips, and opened the door.
Cheng Zhanxi stood at the door holding a pillow, beaming at her with a bright and radiant smile.
Yu Qingtang's heart bloomed with joy, her smile immediately deepening uncontrollably, a tickle rising in her throat. She looked at Cheng Zhanxi and asked in a low voice, "Why did you come over?"
Cheng Zhanxi smiled and said, "I came to deliver a midnight snack."
There was a deeper meaning to her words, and she was carrying a pillow. Yu Qingtang didn't answer, but she stepped aside, making way for one person in the entryway.
Cheng Zhanxi walked in.
Yu Qingtang silently closed and locked the door behind her.
Cheng Zhanxi suddenly felt an indescribable nervousness. She glanced towards the bedroom, then averted her gaze as if trying to hide something, and looked around the living room.
Yu Qingtang asked, "Would you like some water? I'll pour you a glass."
"No, thank you." Cheng Zhanxi turned around, and upon seeing Yu Qingtang's face, her gaze was instantly captivated.
Yu Qingtang had also changed into pajamas when she napped at her place before, but a nap was, after all, just a short rest. It wasn't like at night, after a shower, with her dark long hair draped over her shoulders, her features clear and refined, almost ethereal. Bathed in the living room light, she exuded a gentle, harmless aura, fragrant and soft.
Cheng Zhanxi rarely swore, but she cursed inwardly: To hell with being reserved!
Cheng Zhanxi looked directly into Yu Qingtang's eyes and said boldly and directly, "I want to sleep with you."
Yu Qingtang's heart pounded. She thought: The kind with actions, or the kind without?
She hummed softly in agreement.
Cheng Zhanxi dropped the pretense of being reserved, and the words flowed one after another: "Take me to your bedroom? Or will you come to my place?"
Yu Qingtang finally couldn't help but blush, and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, "Let's sleep here. Going back and forth... is quite troublesome."
"Is it that room?" Cheng Zhanxi pointed in a direction.
Yu Qingtang nodded.
Cheng Zhanxi stuffed the pillow she had brought into Yu Qingtang's arms. Just as Yu Qingtang was wondering, the next second she let out a soft cry as her body became suspended in the air. Cheng Zhanxi had scooped her up by her knees, carrying her bridal style.
Ever since the end of last semester, when Yu Qingtang realized their ambiguous relationship, Cheng Zhanxi hadn't held her like this.
But muscle memory remained. Yu Qingtang skillfully wrapped her arms around Cheng Zhanxi's neck. Without the barrier of that "window paper," her movements became more natural, her eyes filled with affection, sparkling as she looked at Cheng Zhanxi.
Cheng Zhanxi kissed her in that position.
It wasn't a lingering French kiss, just a light touch on the woman's lips, yet it made Yu Qingtang's innocent heart flutter even more.
Cheng Zhanxi carried her into the bedroom. The door was open, unobstructed.
The bedroom's layout was similar to the outside, clean and spacious, with no extra furniture besides the bed and wardrobe. An orchid pot sat in the corner, the same variety and in the same position as the one in Cheng Zhanxi's room.
Cheng Zhanxi placed her on the bed. Yu Qingtang's hands, which were wrapped around her arm, didn't let go. It was unclear whether she had forgotten or was intentionally holding on.
Cheng Zhanxi raised her hand to caress Yu Qingtang's wrist, rubbing the protruding wrist bone, and said softly while looking into her eyes, "I'll arrange the pillows."
Only then did Yu Qingtang let go. She lay on the bed, turned her head, and watched from her tilted perspective as Cheng Zhanxi placed the pillow she had brought next to hers, patting it gently twice. From her perspective, Cheng Zhanxi straightened up, because Cheng Zhanxi had also lain down.
Yu Qingtang lowered her gaze, glanced at the approximately forty-centimeter distance between them, then looked up at Cheng Zhanxi.
The next second, the distance vanished. Cheng Zhanxi pulled her into her embrace.
One person being reserved was enough. Cheng Zhanxi decided to completely remove that word from her dictionary.
"Have you been waiting for me to come over all this time?" After letting herself go, Cheng Zhanxi felt completely relaxed and started teasing her shy girlfriend in her arms again.
As expected, Yu Qingtang buried her face in Cheng Zhanxi's neck, the temperature difference noticeable.
"What would you have done if I hadn't come over?"
Yu Qingtang's face grew hotter and hotter.
"Then wouldn't you have missed me all night?"
Yu Qingtang's breath was scorching hot against Cheng Zhanxi's neck.
Cheng Zhanxi lowered her head. From this angle, Yu Qingtang's earlobe came perfectly into view. Her earlobe was full and well-formed, like a piece of fine, warm red jade.
Cheng Zhanxi couldn't help but reach out and touch it.
So suddenly, Yu Qingtang let out a low "Mmm..." in her arms.
The atmosphere instantly changed.
Cheng Zhanxi let out a soft breath and looked up at the ceiling.
It was their first day sleeping together. Would it be bad to... do that so soon?
Yu Qingtang bit her lip, making no further sound.
The two lay motionless. After a few minutes, the restless molecules in the air gradually settled down.
Cheng Zhanxi stroked Yu Qingtang's long hair and said gently, "Let's sleep. We still have work tomorrow."
Yu Qingtang slipped out of her embrace and lay down on her own pillow. They exchanged a light kiss, and Yu Qingtang turned off the light.
In the darkness, they looked at each other. Cheng Zhanxi affectionately nuzzled Yu Qingtang's nose with her own and let out a soft laugh.
Yu Qingtang laughed too.
"Good night."
"Good night."
The fourth time.
Cheng Zhanxi was a good sleeper, and with the soft, fragrant jade in her arms, she fell asleep after a short while, her even breathing audible.
Yu Qingtang turned the light back on, dimming it to its lowest setting, and gazed at her intently under the light.
...
The faint light of dawn awakened the sleeping city.
Cheng Zhanxi woke up on time, looking at the unfamiliar room in a daze for a few seconds. Then, as if remembering something, she turned her head to look at the pillow beside her. Yu Qingtang was sleeping soundly, nestled entirely in her arms, like a little girl lacking security, hugging her most beloved plush toy.
Cheng Zhanxi kissed the woman's forehead and got out of bed quietly.
Her toiletries were still across the hall; she hadn't brought them over.
Cheng Zhanxi searched the living room but couldn't find paper and a pen to write a note. Yu Qingtang was sleeping, and she didn't want to enter the study without permission. After thinking for a moment, she decided to go back and continue lying down.
The alarm on the phone on the nightstand rang.
Yu Qingtang groggily reached out. Cheng Zhanxi, quicker than her, turned off the alarm. Just as Yu Qingtang's eyelashes fluttered and she was about to wake up, Cheng Zhanxi lowered her head and kissed her lips.
Yu Qingtang let out a soft "mmph" and raised her hands to embrace the slender, soft body in front of her.
After a lingering kiss, Yu Qingtang opened her misty eyes and stared blankly at the smiling woman so close to her.
Cheng Zhanxi: "Good morning."
Yu Qingtang responded a beat later: "Good morning."
Cheng Zhanxi: "I'm going across the hall to wash up. I'll come find you later, okay?"
Yu Qingtang: "Okay."
Cheng Zhanxi smiled. "Then I'll head over first. I'll be back soon. Be good."
After Cheng Zhanxi left, Yu Qingtang went into the bathroom to wash up. When she inadvertently looked up and saw herself in the mirror, she was stunned again.
She touched her smiling, crescent-shaped eyes, and the person in the mirror made the same gesture.
The door to 2101 was wide open. Cheng Zhanxi glanced at it with some surprise, gave a token knock, and walked in.
Yu Qingtang was in the kitchen making breakfast. She didn't cook often, but she had all the necessities: bread slices, jam, milk. She used a mold to fry two heart-shaped eggs and placed them on a plate.
She was particularly embarrassed when she brought it over, not daring to look at Cheng Zhanxi.
In the time it took her to turn around, Cheng Zhanxi was taking pictures of the heart-shaped breakfast.
Yu Qingtang picked up her phone, pretending to check the time, and scrolled to Cheng Zhanxi's social media post.
The caption read: 【Breakfast made by my girlfriend.】
The corners of Yu Qingtang's lips involuntarily curled up, and she lowered her head to hide it.
Suddenly, a phone appeared in front of her. On the screen was that same social media post, but unlike the one Yu Qingtang had seen, this one had a long string of comments from Cheng Zhanxi's friends below it.
Yu Jianxing: Congratulations, congratulations, may it last forever.
Jin Siyue: See this paper crane of love? You deserve to be happy!
Friend 1: When will you introduce us to sister-in-law? We've been waiting for a long time.
Friend 2: I can't hold back my curiosity anymore. What kind of person makes you show off your love like this?
Friend 3: Did Xixi distribute dog food today? Yes, hiccup.
...
Yu Qingtang read through them one by one, then looked at Cheng Zhanxi, not understanding what she meant.
Cheng Zhanxi said, "They are all blessing us."
Yu Qingtang hummed in acknowledgment, still not quite understanding.
Cheng Zhanxi said softly, "When you're ready to meet them, let me know."
Yu Qingtang pressed her lips together, her expression slightly moved.
Cheng Zhanxi knew everything. She knew Yu Qingtang hadn't fully adapted to the role of "girlfriend" yet, knew that it might take a long time for them to be like a normal couple, knew what kind of approach Yu Qingtang would be most comfortable with. She knew that even if she suggested it, Yu Qingtang wouldn't refuse, but she still gave her the initiative.
How could she be so good?
Such a good person, did she now completely belong to her?
Cheng Zhanxi had also wanted to say that when Yu Qingtang was ready to meet her parents, she should let her know too, but she was afraid of scaring her, so she swallowed the words back.
She didn't even know why she was in such a hurry to meet the parents and get married, as if she were afraid Yu Qingtang would run away.
But she had heard from her mother, Song Qingrou, that her father had wanted to marry her mother the moment he first saw her. He pursued her relentlessly for three years before Song Qingrou agreed to date him. In the second month of their relationship, on the first day of the month, Cheng Yi eagerly proposed.
It must be a Cheng family trait.
She was planning to wait two months; she was much better than her father.
After a moment, Yu Qingtang softly replied, "Okay."
At the entrance of Class 7, Year 1.
Only Yu Qingtang was supervising the morning self-study session.
Cheng Zhanxi worried that if she went with her, the students would tease Yu Qingtang. Yu Qingtang was thin-skinned, and if some overzealous students didn't know their limits and really made her blush, a whole vat of vinegar wouldn't be enough for Cheng Zhanxi to drink. Besides, Yu Qingtang didn't like public displays of affection in front of too many people; it was better to keep a low profile.
Cheng Zhanxi didn't care; she could show off on her own, and even alone, she could make a grand display known to everyone.
Cheng Zhanxi had just "accidentally" let the teachers in the office see her custom-made bracelet engraved with Yu Qingtang's initials when she received a message from Yu Qingtang.
【The students in class are all asking me why Teacher Cheng didn't come.】
Cheng Zhanxi's lips curved up as she typed back: 【How did you answer?】
【I didn't answer. I just glanced at them, and they didn't dare to speak anymore.】
【Teacher Yu is so imposing.】
【[Tangtang doesn't know, it's not Tangtang's business.gif]】
Cheng Zhanxi burst out laughing.
The bell for morning reading rang.
Cheng Zhanxi deleted the text she had just typed and said: 【Class is starting. Come back quickly, your girlfriend misses you.】
Outside the classroom door, Yu Qingtang awkwardly tucked her hair behind her ear, hiding her slightly red earlobe, and lowered her head as she left the corridor.
The students of Class 7 saw their homeroom teacher's figure hurrying past through the window and were quite surprised.
They had never seen Teacher Yu walk so fast before.
Cheng Zhanxi was waiting for her at the office door.
Just as Yu Qingtang stepped onto the last stair, her excellent eyesight allowed her to spot the familiar figure at the doorway at first glance.
Her heart suddenly softened and seemed to collapse a little. Unconsciously, Yu Qingtang's lips curved up, and she quickened her pace towards her.
Cheng Zhanxi opened her arms.
After being separated for a whole fifteen minutes, the two hugged each other tightly.
Cheng Zhanxi sat in the chair behind her desk, smiling as she texted.
[Yu Jianxing]: I give up. Those who know would think you're in a relationship; those who don't would think you're filming an idol drama.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: How can an idol drama be as sweet as me? I feel like I've fallen into a honey pot right now, I can't even find my bearings.
[Yu Jianxing]: Are you making this up? I've had so many relationships, how come none were as sweet as yours?
[Cheng Zhanxi]: You call those relationships? This one today, that one tomorrow, everyone follows the same routine: dinner, chat, movie, bed. What flavor is there besides salty?
[Yu Jianxing]: Let me off! This isn't the bus to kindergarten!
Cheng Zhanxi's lips quirked. Just as she was about to send a few more suggestive remarks, Yu Qingtang, diagonally opposite her, looked up from her lesson plan and cast a gentle gaze her way.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: So cute.
[Yu Jianxing]: Did you take the wrong medicine?
[Cheng Zhanxi]: I was talking about my wife, not you.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: By the way, my engagement in the Capital City has been called off, right?
[Yu Jianxing]: Called off. It's just that you and your brother kept swapping engagements, confusing a lot of people. No one knows who is going to marry Miss Wei.
[Cheng Zhanxi]: That's fine, as long as it's not me marrying her. I estimate that by the time my brother gets married, my girlfriend still won't have agreed to meet my parents. I might as well use the excuse of attending the wedding to bring her back to the Capital, killing two birds with one stone.
[Yu Jianxing]: Okay.
Cheng Zhanxi tapped her knuckles lightly on the desk twice.
Wei Tingyu's body could at most last another year. Counting the days, her brother's marriage to Miss Wei should also be on the agenda. She wondered if the wedding date had been set. Her parents knew she was troubled by it, so although they no longer mentioned Miss Wei, they would still inform her about something as important as her brother's wedding.
They hadn't said anything, so it wasn't set.
Cheng Zhanxi couldn't be bothered to ask.
She barely had time for her relationship.
Cheng Zhanxi was thinking about where to take Yu Qingtang this weekend. It had been a long time since she visited Lin Xi. Maybe she could go see her with Yu Qingtang? She just didn't know if Yu Qingtang would get jealous again.
Capital City.
The four seasons in the north were distinct. After entering spring, the temperature had warmed significantly.
Pear blossoms and peach blossoms were in bloom. A servant had picked a few fresh peach branches and arranged them in a vase on the table. Wei Tingyu sat at the table holding a book, the peach blossoms reflecting on his pale, elegant face. Far from overshadowing his charm, they became a foil, appearing dim in his presence.
The servant tiptoed aside, afraid to disturb him.
Another servant knocked on the door, just twice, then stopped.
The servant waiting in the room went out and returned a moment later, informing the man holding the scroll by the window in a low voice, "Third Young Master, the doctor is here."
The servant was an old retainer. Even though the title "Third Young Master" had been taken over by the grandchildren's generation, privately, they were still accustomed to calling Wei Tingyu "Young Master."
Wei Tingyu closed the book. Tucked inside was a bookmark made of a peach blossom.
He gazed at the peach blossoms in the vase for a while. The man's fair hand pulled out a branch, examining and toying with it, then said gently, "Please show the doctor in."
Wei Tingyu disliked the smell of hospitals, and also to hide it from other members of the Wei family, he had a full set of medical equipment installed at home. After his major illness, his health had been deteriorating day by day. Frequent visits from the doctor were common. Of course, the fact that he was terminally ill was now almost an open secret in the Wei family.
It was just that no one spoke of it. The younger generation of the Wei family also acted as if it wasn't happening, affectionately calling him "Uncle San," not caring whether this Uncle San was about to die.
Jinglan and Jingfeng, the siblings from Second Uncle Wei's family, did send him supplements and good luck charms, creating quite a stir, but their intentions were as clear as Sima Zhao's—known to all.
After the doctor finished the physical examination, Wei Tingyu sat up and buttoned his shirt, one button at a time, gradually covering the snow-white skin of his chest.
"How have things been lately?" Wei Tingyu asked, as casually as if he were talking about someone else.
The doctor's expression was grave. "As expected."
The expected situation was steady deterioration.
The doctor glanced at Wei Tingyu, wanting to say something but hesitating.
Wei Tingyu stood up. A servant draped a coat over his shoulders. He held the coat closed with both hands and asked the doctor, "The weather is warmer now, can I go out?"
The doctor said, "Yes."
Wei Tingyu nodded. "Thank you."
He turned and walked towards a dimly lit area.
The doctor sighed, watching his retreating figure.
Actually, Wei Tingyu's illness was not incurable. While a full recovery might not be possible, there was a chance to prolong his life as much as possible. However, if a person had a death wish, even the best medical skills and medicine couldn't save them.
The servant showed the doctor the way. "This way, please."
The doctor shook his head and left the Wei residence.
The next day, the Cheng family welcomed Wei Tingyu as a guest.
Wei Tingyu took off his overcoat, revealing a dark blue three-piece suit underneath: shirt, vest, and suit jacket. Details like sleeve garters and a collar pin showed him to be refined and particular.
However, Song Qingrou was not dazzled by Wei Tingyu, because Cheng Yi was also wearing a suit. Cheng Yi exercised regularly, and at over fifty, his figure was better maintained than most young men—slim when dressed, muscular when undressed, with a narrow waist and long legs, very upright. His features were deep-set and handsome; he could grace a magazine cover if he stepped out.
Although wearing a three-piece suit at home was really strange, Cheng Yuanxi, for the sake of family harmony, also wore one to compete for Song Qingrou's attention.
Song Qingrou was surrounded by three handsome men. She bestowed her attention equally, looking at each one in turn, a very pleasing sight.
Wei Tingyu had come to discuss wedding matters with the Cheng family.
They had spoken on the phone before, but it lacked sincerity. Wei Tingyu came to show his sincerity.
The wedding was to be a grand affair, and the guest list could not be perfunctory. Wei Tingyu no longer had friends, but the Wei family did. The guest lists drawn up by the two families encompassed more than half of the upper echelons of political and business circles. All the prominent figures in the "Four-Nine City" (old name for Beijing) were invited, so one could imagine what a grand event it would be.
Wei Tingyu picked up the teapot in front of him and personally poured two cups of tea for Mr. and Mrs. Cheng.
The childhood engagement back then was half in jest; Mr. and Mrs. Cheng could have chosen not to take it seriously. Now that they were putting in so much effort, Wei Tingyu felt sincere admiration and gratitude.
The three of them drank tea.
Song Qingrou put down her teacup and asked, "Has Qingtang still not returned to the Capital?"
Wei Tingyu brushed it off: "She's busy with something."
Song Qingrou said, "Then her wedding dress..."
Wei Tingyu said, "I'll choose it for her."
Song Qingrou was taken aback. She glanced at her husband beside her, then back at Wei Tingyu, and smiled gently, "You two, father and daughter, have such a good relationship."
She had a thought hidden in her heart: It's a bit too good.
If Cheng Zhanxi were getting married and Cheng Yi were to choose her wedding dress, never mind whether Cheng Zhanxi would agree, Song Qingrou would twist Cheng Yi's ear off first.
Yu Ci passed away early, and Wei Qingtang looked exactly like her mother. Could Wei Tingyu have transferred his affections? And what about Miss Wei? Was her constant absence because she too had developed feelings for her father that transgressed moral boundaries? Wei Tingyu was about to pass away, entrusting his beloved daughter to someone trustworthy before his death, while Miss Wei didn't want to marry someone else but had to obey her father...
Song Qingrou was a writer; her rich imagination immediately conjured up a grand drama.
This way, everything made sense.
Song Qingrou looked at Wei Tingyu before her. Wei Tingyu merely smiled at her words, noncommittal.
Song Qingrou: "Then will other wedding matters also be decided by you, in-law? Is there no need to consult Qingtang's opinion?"
Wei Tingyu nodded. "Yes." After a pause, he said, "If she has any needs, I will bring them up."
Song Qingrou had no objection.
Weddings usually require six months to a year of preparation, the grander the longer. Given the urgency, they had about four to five months to prepare for the wedding, with the date likely to be around July or August of this year. Others set an auspicious date and then prepare for the wedding; these two families were preparing for the wedding first, then setting the date based on progress, finding an auspicious day nearby.
So the matter of the wedding date was temporarily postponed.
After seeing Wei Tingyu off, Song Qingrou watched his retreating figure and gently shook her head.
Cheng Yi asked, "What's wrong?"
Song Qingrou said wistfully, "Nothing, I just feel like the 'male god' filter I had for our in-law has shattered a bit."
Cheng Yi was secretly pleased. "Is that so?"
Song Qingrou glanced at him, her gaze suddenly fixing on him, unblinking.
Cheng Yi straightened his expression. "What?"
Song Qingrou said, "You're so handsome. I didn't even notice just now."
Cheng Yi beamed at the first sentence, but his face immediately fell at the second.
Cheng Yuanxi brought over a plate of grapes, interrupting the tense atmosphere between the two. "Eat grapes, eat grapes. These grapes are really sweet this time."
Cheng Yi ate one with a stern face. It was indeed sweet. His expression softened, and he said, "Ask where they're from. Pick some that are sixty to seventy percent ripe and mail some to your sister."
Song Qingrou added, "And make some raisins. She likes sweet things."
Sicheng City.
Cheng Zhanxi moved her toiletries to 2101, officially starting her cohabitation life with Yu Qingtang.
They had arranged to visit little Lin Xi over the weekend. On Friday night, the two watched a movie and went to bed relatively late. Cheng Zhanxi set her alarm for eight in the morning, allowing for exactly six hours of sleep. She placed her phone on the nightstand, and just as she lay back down on the bed, a soft body spontaneously snuggled into her arms.
Yu Qingtang's unchanging gray pajamas had been replaced by Cheng Zhanxi with orange ones featuring cartoon patterns, maxing out the cuteness level.
Faced with her girlfriend throwing herself into her arms, Cheng Zhanxi certainly did not disappoint her.
After a long, almost suffocating deep kiss ended, Cheng Zhanxi ruffled Yu Qingtang's hair, held her in her arms, lowered her head to kiss her forehead again, and said softly, "Time for bed. Good night, my dear."
Yu Qingtang's chest heaved violently. She looked up at her, her thin lips pressed together lightly.
Cheng Zhanxi reached out and turned off the light.
The bedroom was pitch black.
Cheng Zhanxi fell asleep extremely quickly. In just a short while, she was in a half-dreaming, half-awake state. In a few more seconds, she would have been completely asleep.
But in those few seconds, she couldn't hold on.
Because the woman in her arms started to get restless.
Cheng Zhanxi woke up gasping for breath, the sensation in her palm unbelievably soft.
