Chapter 62

Ten months of pregnancy, blood is thicker than water. A child's appearance and features are deeply etched in a mother's every memory. No matter what clothes the child wears, they cannot hide the familiarity built over twenty years of being together.

Mrs. Xu, Chen Wanping, looked at the photo that had unintentionally circulated from the drama set. Intuition after intuition popped into her head—this young man must be related to their son, who had been hiding and refusing to come home!

Chen Wanping gripped the tablet tightly, looking up at her secretary with a hint of eager anticipation in her eyes: "Which company did you say this young man is from?"

The secretary replied respectfully, "Chenfeng Jewelry."

"Chenfeng Jewelry..." A name that couldn't be simpler, repeated over and over on Chen Wanping's lips. She murmured, searching for a memory in her mind, and her eyes suddenly widened. "Is it from the Wen Group?"

The secretary said, "Yes, it's a subsidiary of the Wen Group."

Then, a name lingered in Chen Wanping's mind. She hesitated and asked, "Then is its current boss...?"

"Yes," the secretary pushed up her glasses. "It's just as you thought."

"It is indeed the young master's fiancée, Miss Wen, Wen Shixue."

...

"Achoo—"

Wen Shixue sneezed, shaking her head lightly. Seeing this, Qin Zhen quickly handed her a tissue from the side, frowning tightly as she looked at her, her eyes filled with worry.

Xu Jianfan was also startled and said, "President Wen, are you cold?"

They were currently in a high-end coffee shop. There were only two or three tables of customers scattered around. Soft, soothing classical music played from the black speakers, giving the place a quiet elegance. The cold wind was blocked by the closed doors and windows, and the heating was on inside, so customers took off their heavy coats as soon as they entered. Wen Shixue was no exception, but after that sneeze, Vice President Qin, who had brought up Mr. and Mrs. Wen, ordered her to put it back on.

"President Wen should take care of your health," Xu Jianfan said. "Maybe you're catching a cold."

Wen Shixue obediently buttoned up her coat while saying nonchalantly, "It's just a little sneeze, not enough to catch a cold. One thought, two curses, three colds. I've only sneezed once, I still need two more."

Qin Zhen silently gave her a look that said, "You'd better be."

Xu Jianfan: "...Judging a cold like that, you're probably going to be blacklisted by the medical community."

Xu Jianfan: That's a bit too casual, isn't it?

Wen Shixue raised an eyebrow, picked up her coffee cup, and took a sip of the warm coffee. The slightly bitter taste instantly made her miss ice-cold cola. She put down the coffee and asked, "How have you been doing here lately? Has anyone bullied you?"

Xu Jianfan smiled: "With President Wen backing me, who would dare bully me?" He added, "How's the Design Department doing lately?"

Wen Shixue casually touched the hexagram earring on her ear: "Don't worry, with Department Head Du there, they're eating when they should, drinking when they should, working when they should, and getting off work when they should. Everything is fine."

Du Xianyu, although a bit laid-back in personality, was no less capable in management than other department heads. He hadn't embarrassed Wen Shixue, who was promoting a high-level executive for the first time, in front of the board members at the main company, which she found quite comforting.

Xu Jianfan nodded reassuringly and then tactfully said, "It's cold tonight, President Wen and Vice President Qin should go back and rest early. I won't bother you anymore."

Even though Qin Zhen had been sitting silently beside them, Xu Jianfan could sense her concern for Wen Shixue's health from her slightly furrowed brows. She was just refraining from interrupting because Wen Shixue was checking in on him, her subordinate.

If they kept talking and Wen Shixue sneezed a second time, he was sure he'd be ranked first on Vice President Qin's blacklist of the most clueless employees.

Xu Jianfan: Yeah, let's not do that.

"Please take care of yourselves and don't catch a cold," Xu Jianfan said sincerely.

Wen Shixue patted his shoulder: "You too, you must have a healthy body." Then she smiled sweetly, using the most charming smile and the most pleasant voice to say the most cruel and heartless words, "Because that way you can help me earn more money."

Xu Jianfan: "..."

Wen Shixue, you heartless capitalist!

Qin Zhen: "..."

She really hasn't forgotten her original intention.

Snow fell again on the heavy, cloudy deep winter night. Tiny white specks drifted leisurely, landing softly on the plain dark blue umbrella top.

The coffee shop was just a short walk from the hotel on the commercial street, no need for a car, just a few minutes on foot. Wen Shixue buried her mouth in her scarf and walked with her head down on the street that had already been cleared once. Her slightly exposed nose was a little red from the cold, as if someone had dabbed it with a fingerful of rouge. Qin Zhen couldn't help but urge her to walk faster, afraid she would really get cold and catch a cold.

Wen Shixue stepped on the thin snow on the ground, lowered her head, and looked at Qin Zhen's free hand. Suddenly, an idea popped into her head, and her little finger uncontrollably hooked over, her eyes fixed on it, like a child planning mischief.

But Qin Zhen was as alert and sharp as a wild beast. Without even looking, she directly grabbed her wrist and put her hand back into her own trench coat pocket, adding a reminder: "Outside, no fooling around."

Wen Shixue sighed regretfully: "I wasn't fooling around, I wanted to hold your hand."

She said, "I can't openly hold your hand, it even made Jiang Rui misunderstand that we're not a couple."

Qin Zhen had already relayed everything she said to Jiang Rui during the day to Wen Shixue, the good, the bad, the funny parts. She remembered it all, and even secretly held a grudge, thinking she needed to find an opportunity to deal with Jiang Rui, lest she get any mischievous ideas and pester Qin Zhen again, trying to sow discord between them.

As soon as Jiang Rui was mentioned, Qin Zhen's mind automatically replayed the things Jiang Rui said today, and Jiang Rui's question—whether she was worthy.

Could an orphan with no parents really be worthy of a distinguished little princess?

If it were before, her answer would definitely be no, but as the time spent with Wen Shixue grew longer, the negative answer began to be shrouded in a mist, becoming blurred.

Was she really not worthy of Wen Shixue? Age, status, and sexual orientation, were the differences between her and Wen Shixue really insurmountable?

She had always been a rational person. Years of work had made her accustomed to thinking about everything from a rational perspective. That's why she could repeatedly remind Wen Shixue about the age issue when she confessed without hesitation, and why she often went into the relationship with a pessimistic "love for one day is one day" mentality.

In the early stages of their relationship, she could say she never thought about spending her whole life with Wen Shixue, simply treating herself as Wen Shixue's experimental subject for her first taste of love.

But people have emotions and desires, love, hate, and obsession. Her rationality began to be worn away by her love for Wen Shixue. She couldn't help but want to keep Wen Shixue for longer, or perhaps Wen Shixue gave her the impulse of youthful vitality, making her start to think about their more distant future, about a home that belonged to them—it didn't need to be warm and beautiful, just like this was good enough.

So she began to waver between rationality and impulse. Rationality told her that Wen Shixue could have a better life without her, while impulse screamed to take over Wen Shixue's entire life, to personally decorate her life with fulfillment and happiness, leaving no chance for anyone else.

So now she didn't know what her answer to the question of "worthy or not" was anymore.

She snapped back to reality and offered a comforting reassurance: "She doesn't need to think so, we just need to know it ourselves."

But Wen Shixue said, "No, I just want them all to know we're a couple."

She wasn't as conflicted as Qin Zhen. Liking was liking, not liking was not liking. No one could influence her thoughts, not even her own parents.

She liked Qin Zhen, liked her so much she wanted to show her off, liked her so much she wanted to tell everyone that this person was hers, and no one should have any ideas. She even liked her so much she wanted to be with her for a lifetime, from dating to marriage to growing old together, not missing a single step.

This thought wasn't a sudden whim, but something that accumulated day by day in her interactions with Qin Zhen. Qin Zhen's back as she cooked for her in the kitchen, the way she frowned and wouldn't let her drink too much cola... and the way she quickly pulled off her own scarf and gave it to her today when she saw she wasn't wearing one. All of it made her infatuated and dependent.

She couldn't help but like this Qin Zhen, and she couldn't imagine Qin Zhen becoming someone else's girlfriend, being good to someone else. It felt like being deprived of air, suffocating her.

She tilted her head slightly, her eyes sparkling as if with stars, movingly bright: "One day, I will openly hold your hand for everyone to see. By then, everyone will know that you and I are a match made in heaven."

Qin Zhen was slightly stunned. For a moment, something seemed to strike her heart. The mist lingering around her was completely dispelled by Wen Shixue's confidence and anticipation, revealing a radiance as brilliant as the sun—she suddenly had her answer—she could be worthy of her, even if it meant exhausting everything, it didn't matter, because she was worth it.

Qin Zhen slowly smiled, and for the first time, reached out and gently and carefully stroked Wen Shixue's face. At this moment, there were few people passing by on the street. The dim yellow streetlights fell silently behind them, making the world seem empty, but her mood was incredibly full and comfortable.

Being able to openly and freely stroke her girlfriend's face outside, this feeling was surprisingly good.

She rarely made a joke: "A match made in heaven? Didn't our President Wen say that only names with the same number of characters are a good match?"

Wen Shixue, who had just made that up on the spot: "?"

Good heavens, how could Qin Zhen remember everything she said so clearly? Did she have a recorder in her brain specifically for her voice, waiting for the right moment to replay it???

Then she should say her own name more often in the future, so her brain would be full of her!

Wen Shixue said seriously, "That's just one of the matching rules."

Qin Zhen asked with a smile, "Then what's the second one?"

Wen Shixue immediately explained to her, still in a serious tone: "Do you know what it means that your name has one less character than mine, and you still like me?"

"What does it mean?" Qin Zhen asked cooperatively.

Wen Shixue held up a finger: "It means you are destined to be 'missing' one 'me' in your life. We are simply destined!"

Qin Zhen: "..."

Thank you, that's eye-opening.
