SCHS - Chapter 83
Chapter 83
Wen Shixue was completely woken up by this sudden surprise. Then, with a bewildered expression, she dialed Qin Zhen's number, ready to ask what exactly was going on.
Her silent phone suddenly vibrated in her pocket. Qin Zhen took it out, glanced at the contact name, and looked up at the secretary beside her, saying, "You take the contract back first. You don't need to wait for me; I won't be returning to the company today. If there's an urgent matter at the company, call me."
The secretary lowered her eyes and obediently said yes, wisely not asking further questions, and quickly left.
Qin Zhen, meanwhile, slowed her pace towards the parking lot, holding the phone to her ear, and asked gently, "Are you awake? Is there anywhere you're still uncomfortable?"
Responding first were two sneezes, followed by Wen Shixue's voice: "No, much better."
Qin Zhen sighed helplessly and said, "Put on your clothes properly, cover yourself with the quilt, and don't let the wind blow on you again."
Wen Shixue obediently lay back under the covers, then peeked out with one eye to check the doorway. After confirming that Cui Yi wasn't there, she playfully whispered in a breathy voice, "Don't worry, the only time I don't wear clothes properly is when you're here."
Starting to be mischievous again, Qin Zhen chuckled and shook her head. But since she still had the energy to tease her, it meant she was indeed much better.
Wen Shixue actually felt a little regretful. Yesterday, she had been ready to "offend above," but it was ruined by two sneezes. Qin Zhen almost wrapped her up like a zongzi again, terrified she'd catch even a hint of the biting cold wind. She was forced to have a night where nothing happened, only to catch a cold the next day, which was truly miserable.
But it didn't matter. She and Qin Zhen had a long future ahead; they weren't short on a moment or two. She'd have plenty of chances to "offend above" and sleep with Qin Zhen later! She comforted herself with this thought, then brought the conversation back: "How did the 'Gui Hong' side agree so suddenly?"
Qin Zhen replied, "Mr. Yang didn't tell me the specific reason, but he asked me to tell you that as long as you manage Chenfeng with dedication, you will definitely be rewarded."
She recalled the meeting content just now and suddenly remembered that Yang Fangyu had said another sentence—
"I hope your President Wen can always be like this and will not fail the expectations and trust of any employee in her."
Hearing this, Wen Shixue remembered the message Xu Jianfan had sent. The scattered and chaotic pieces of information in her mind were suddenly connected by an invisible thread, giving her a sudden insight.
She said, "Lao Qin, I'll call Xu Jianfan first. There's something I need to ask him." She added, "Are you going to the company today? If not, come back quickly. Your girlfriend misses you very much."
She said the last eight words in a hushed voice to prevent Cui Yi from hearing, a light, airy whisper, like speaking secrets close to the ear.
Qin Zhen smiled and agreed. Before she hung up, she replied in a very gentle tone, "I miss you too."
More than every minute and every second before.
Now, whenever she had free time, she would start thinking about her Little Demon King, wondering if her fever had gone down, if her head still hurt or felt dizzy, when the fever would finally break... She wished she could stay by her side every minute and every second, taking meticulous care of her until she fully recovered.
However, Wen Shixue's illness this time made her make a decision. Even the most rebellious student has to take physical education classes, and no matter how much the Little Demon King disliked exercising, she had to exercise—the doctor had said so.
Wen Shixue rarely heard Qin Zhen being so sweet and affectionate with her outside. Even through the phone screen, she felt completely satisfied, and even the fever suddenly became less tormenting.
After her lover on the other end reluctantly hung up the phone, Qin Zhen turned off the screen and put away her phone, planning to drive back. Just then, Yu Hanhan caught up from behind and handed her a cup of hot coffee: "To celebrate us finally collaborating after working for so long, and also to thank our Vice President Qin for sending me year-end performance!"
Seeing her happy, Qin Zhen calmly accepted her coffee.
Yu Hanhan added, "New Year's Day is in a few days. You won't be busy then, right? The other two can finally get a proper holiday this year. Let's get together then, I'll treat this time."
Although the four of them from their dorm went their separate ways after graduation, with only Qin Zhen and Yu Hanhan working in the same place, they would still gather during holiday periods every year to keep in touch. Even if not everyone could make it, their intentions would be there.
Sometimes, to show care for the single Qin Zhen, they would also gather on New Year's Day to spend the New Year with her, letting her know that they were there for her in this world.
However, in the past few years when Qin Zhen was working hard at Wen Group, she was often so busy that her feet barely touched the ground. Several times she couldn't attend their gatherings and spent them on the phone with them, but this didn't stop them from wanting to continue spending the New Year with her as family.
Qin Zhen knew their intentions and usually agreed directly when she wasn't busy. This year was the same, but as she watched Yu Hanhan's retreating back, she suddenly realized that this year was different from previous years.
Before, no one was home to keep her company, but this year, there was.
Looking at the warm coffee in her hand, she fell into a moment of silence. After a moment of contemplation, she sighed almost imperceptibly.
It was rare for the four of them from the dorm to gather, and they were on holiday. She didn't know if Mr. and Mrs. Wen Lianchang would come back, nor did she know if Wen Shixue planned to go out and meet friends to relax... Thinking about it, her Little Demon King didn't actually need her company every moment; she would be home waiting for her to return.
She'd talk to her properly when she got back. She thought this to herself.
...
Wen Shixue had a phone call with Xu Jianfan, piecing together most of the story. Although she didn't know why the 'Gui Hong' production team had hesitated at first, at least now she knew they agreed to cooperate because they recognized her management ability.
Regardless, a successful collaboration meant making money, which was a good thing for both her and Chenfeng!
Unexpectedly, as soon as she hung up Xu Jianfan's call, Meng Yuezhu's call came in...
After Xu Jianfan hung up, Pan He suddenly appeared behind him, startling him. He patted his chest and said, "Brother He, why do you walk without making a sound?"
"It's because Young Master was on the phone and didn't notice," Pan He said expressionlessly. "Was Young Master just talking to Miss Wen on the phone?"
Xu Jianfan didn't deny it.
Pan He asked again, "Did Miss Wen call you first?"
Xu Jianfan nodded and added, "It was about work."
If it were normally, he would have explained more and tried his best to distance Wen Shixue from him to prevent the other person from overthinking. Now, he wouldn't do that. A brief explanation was the best explanation.
Pan He took off his glasses, wiped them, and put them back on. His face remained expressionless, showing neither joy nor sorrow: "So Miss Wen has your phone number."
He had always thought that Wen Shixue and Xu Jianfan were just the simplest superior-subordinate relationship, not even friends, so they naturally wouldn't have each other's phone numbers. He didn't expect that the relationship between the two had progressed faster than they had imagined.
Xu Jianfan was stunned for a moment and explained gently, "Actually, it's nothing strange. She has the numbers of all employees to prevent senior management from deceiving her."
Pan He, however, was very optimistic about him: "Having a phone number will make things much more convenient, Young Master. You are no worse than anyone else. I will accompany you to the company tomorrow. Please work hard."
Xu Jianfan smiled wryly and agreed, thinking to himself: No matter how capable a man is, it's useless here.
Because in terms of gender, they had already lost.
...
After Qin Zhen returned home, Cui Yi left, repeatedly telling her to take good care of Wen Shixue before she went. After seeing Cui Yi off, Qin Zhen returned to the master bedroom and saw Wen Shixue lying face down on the bed, motionless, like a salted fish unwilling to turn over.
"Shixue," she walked to the edge of the bed and sat down, "What are you doing lying face down?"
Wen Shixue moved her body slightly, a small movement, revealing her face to look at her. She uttered two words: "Melancholy."
"Ms. Meng Yuezhu just ran up a tab with me. She said she'll settle it after I recover. Ying~."
Wen·Little Pitiful·Shixue: Just aggrieved!
Qin Zhen was afraid that lying face down for too long would be bad for her stomach, so she helped this melancholy salted fish turn over, covered her with the quilt, and said, "Aunt Meng is also worried about you."
Wen Shixue clutched the quilt with both hands, pouting, like a child who had done something wrong and was being lectured by an adult, yet stubbornly refused to admit it immediately: "This isn't my fault, it's that damn sky's fault."
Qin Zhen smiled helplessly, reached out and touched her forehead. It was still a little warm, but thankfully, her spirits were much better than when she first woke up this morning, which was reassuring. Qin Zhen looked at her with gentle eyes: "Shixue, you need to exercise after you recover."
As soon as Wen Shixue heard this, she immediately burrowed into the quilt. Her voice came from underneath, sounding muffled: "I'm a patient right now, weak all over, and so are my ears. They said they can't listen to this topic and told you to cut it out."
Qin Zhen chuckled lightly: "Then what topic do they like to hear?"
Wen Shixue recalled what she hadn't finished doing yesterday and replied cheerfully, "They like to hear about 'below offending above'."
As soon as the words fell, the air suddenly fell silent for a few seconds, so quiet that she wondered if Qin Zhen had left, or perhaps hadn't heard what she just said.
She poked the quilt, making a small bump, and called out, "Lao Qin."
"Hmm?" Qin Zhen responded, her voice very close, right beside her.
Good, her Lao Qin was still here. She continued to ask, muffled in the quilt, "Did you hear what I just said?"
Qin Zhen said, "I heard."
She asked again, "Then why aren't you saying anything? Do you think this topic is not okay?"
She couldn't help but start to wonder, could it be that her Lao Qin wasn't willing to let her take the lead?
This thought popped up for less than three seconds before being dismissed by Qin Zhen's denial: "No, I was thinking about how to say it, but I've thought of it now."
Since her Little Demon King liked "below offending above" and disliked exercising, but couldn't not exercise, then...
She gently placed her hand on her through the quilt, lowered her beautiful eyes, and spoke in a low, soft, seductive tone: "If you don't exercise properly, where will you get the energy to 'offend above'?"
Wen Shixue: "Lao Qin, if you're going to talk about that..."
She threw off the quilt in one go, full of energy: "—Then I'm not sleepy anymore."
