BSS - Chapter 91
Chapter 91
"Is that okay?" To Xu Wei's surprise, Deng Chuan only seemed very apprehensive. "Will it be bad for you if I go back with you?"
"What's bad about it?" Xu Wei laughed and pinched Deng Chuan's cheek. "If it doesn't work out, we can just move out."
"Ah…" Deng Chuan seemed to have just realized. "Will your family be there too?"
She looked a little worried, mumbling and hesitating. Xu Wei knew what she was thinking and took the initiative to broach the difficult subject. "They won't hit me, don't worry. They won't hit you either." She thought for a moment, then smiled again. "I'm just worried you won't be used to our hometown."
Deng Chuan replied without thinking, "Of course not."
Xu Wei rested her fingers on the side of Deng Chuan's face, stroking it gently now and then. "It's not like you have to meet my family. Actually, I don't want them to see you either."
Her tone was extremely conflicted. Before Deng Chuan could speak, she heard her add lightly, "Actually, it's fine whether we go back or not… I'm not obsessed with getting their approval. It's just… I want to take you to see my mother."
In the darkness, Deng Chuan could feel Xu Wei's gaze on her. The darkness became tender and filled with affection. Deng Chuan held her, her lips pressing against Xu Wei's smooth shoulder, kissing it gently again and again. "Okay."
The two of them snuggled together quietly for a while. Deng Chuan replied to the messages and notifications from classmates and friends that had accumulated throughout the day. Xu Wei tilted her head to watch without any reservations, occasionally asking who this or that person was.
Gu Ninglu had posted a set of photos from her trip to Qinghai Lake on her social media. Deng Chuan hadn't been in touch with her much anymore, but the photos were beautiful, and the scenery was lovely, making her unable to resist holding up her phone to show Xu Wei. "We should go together someday too."
Xu Wei glanced at it. The girl in the photo had her face half-covered with a headscarf, revealing her delicate brows and eyes. Behind her was a shimmering, radiant sunset glow. For a moment, it was hard to say whether the person or the scenery was more stunning. She said calmly, "Sure."
Deng Chuan didn't think anything of it. She didn't just say it and forget; she added the trip to Qinghai Lake to the "tips about Xu Wei" section in her notes app.
Xu Wei watched her type with lowered eyes, waiting for her to finish her planning. Then, she curiously fiddled with Deng Chuan's fingers and scrolled through the memo.
There were plans for future points in time: Beijing, Harbin, Chaoshan, Qinghai Lake, even Oxford, England. First year, second year, third year, all the way to graduate school. There were even detailed daily itineraries. Behind the travel plans was a note in parentheses: Teacher Xu's opinion takes precedence.
There were also birthdays, hobbies, special events and feelings. It was so detailed it included what kind of flowers she'd been given, what gifts were appropriate, preferences Xu Wei had mentioned in passing during idle chat, and even Xu Wei's reactions during special moments: a frown and an intake of breath meant she liked it, pushing her away meant it really hurt. Xu Wei liked sincere and traditional intimacy, liked holding hands, liked interlocking fingers, liked simple kisses, didn't like too many tricks, didn't like being strung along with a hot-and-cold attitude, didn't like dirty talk, and talking too much was also a no… The section was so long that Xu Wei gave up before she could finish reading.
She gritted her teeth and pinched the little friend's cheek, her tone feigning fierceness, like a balloon puffed up and ready to pop at a single poke. "You're not allowed to write all this nonsense!"
Deng Chuan's tone was so innocent that Xu Wei almost believed her. "But Teacher Xu, weren't you the one who said it? You have to be good at summarizing to make progress."
Xu Wei covered her mouth. "What progress? There's no progress."
The next second, she snatched her hand back as if electrocuted, the touch of Deng Chuan's tongue still lingering on her palm. In the darkness, she heard Deng Chuan's stifled laughter. Embarrassed and angry, Xu Wei rolled on top of her and sealed her lips.
The quilt rustled a few times, and their positions were reversed. Deng Chuan didn't resist at all, letting Xu Wei press down on her, her hands resting on Xu Wei's slender waist.
Xu Wei kissed her messily a few times, not doing much else. She bit down hard on Deng Chuan's lower lip, then realized she had bitten too hard and hesitated before touching it lightly, as if to soothe it.
It was a ticklish, dragonfly-like touch. Then it was Deng Chuan's turn to bite her lip.
The two of them fooled around endlessly for a while and fell asleep again without realizing it. Once again, Xu Wei was the first to wake up. Her forehead was resting against Deng Chuan's shoulder, and she reflected grimly: was her schedule with Deng Chuan a bit too chaotic and unrestrained? This wasn't right.
Teacher Xu reflected deeply and decided to resume a regular lifestyle starting tomorrow.
As for today… as she was thinking, she fell asleep again.
They drifted in and out of sleep until nearly midnight, when they finally got up to wash up and eat. Xu Wei went to shower first. When she came out, feeling refreshed, Deng Chuan was standing in the kitchen cooking noodles, presenting a steady and reliable back to her.
They had picked out the saucepan for cooking noodles together. The water in the pot came to a boil, and Deng Chuan added a handful of dried noodles. After a thought, she added a little more. Xu Wei leaned against her shoulder, watching her methodically stir the noodles, rinse them under cold water, blanch some green vegetables, and crack two eggs into the vegetable broth. Finally, she seasoned it and divided the noodles into two bowls.
Deng Chuan's face was expressionless when she was focused on a task. Her cold expression lasted until she had served the noodles into the bowls, brought them to the dining table, and announced it was time to eat. Only then did a small smile appear.
Deng Chuan intentionally put more noodles in Xu Wei's bowl. Teacher Xu didn't notice and graciously ate it all.
The two had a clear division of labor: one cooked, the other washed the dishes. When Xu Wei came out after tidying up the kitchen, Deng Chuan was still in the shower. Zhou Liu darted out from somewhere, circling her and meowing for canned food.
Zhou Liu was smart. He knew the canned food was in a kitchen cabinet, out of his reach, so he just kept trying to jump onto the stove. After being subjected to his barrage of direct and indirect meows, Xu Wei opened a can for him and fed him some hairball remedy paste. Zhou Liu ate so eagerly he nearly climbed onto her. After he finished his portion for the day, he licked his lips, still unsatisfied, and nudged her hand, asking for more.
Xu Wei ignored him and leaned against the sofa, scrolling through her phone. Her social media post had attracted a lot of attention. Even Yang Jing, who had been very busy with work recently, sent her a private message asking if she had posted a black picture because she was in a bad mood and if something was wrong with her and the little friend.
Xu Wei replied with a smile on her lips: Nope, we're great.
Yang Jing, however, said: Don't keep it all to yourself. Although Deng Chuan isn't that kind of person, kids can be unreliable sometimes. If there's something wrong, talk it out. If it really doesn't work out, just break up.
Xu Wei replied: I said there's nothing wrong. Why are you so practiced at convincing people to break up?
After thinking for a moment, Xu Wei couldn't resist revealing a little more: Really, there isn't. We're going to Harbin together in a few days, and then she's coming back to my hometown with me for a visit.
Xu Wei: We're doing great.
Yang Jing: ?!
Yang Jing: Turns out I was the clown.
She was gloating on the other end: Deng Chuan is going back to your hometown with you? Your dad is probably going to be furious.
Xu Wei replied with a Yeah. Then she added: He probably won't even let me in the door.
She quickly added: That's perfect. I can stay somewhere else with her.
Yang Jing sent a long string of "hahahaha"s, followed by an exclamation mark: I knew it!
Deng Chuan walked out of the bedroom, drying her hair. It seemed she couldn't find Xu Wei after her shower and had come out looking for her. When she saw Xu Wei in the living room, she breathed a sigh of relief. While vigorously rubbing her hair, she asked, "It's warmer in the room, why are you sitting out here?"
Xu Wei pointed at the innocent Zhou Liu, who was sprawled next to her. She put her phone away, walked over, and took the towel from Deng Chuan's hands. "Stop rubbing. If you rub it like that, your hair will be a frizzy mess tomorrow."
The little friend obediently stretched her neck a bit, letting Xu Wei dry her long hair section by section. She was taller than Xu Wei, so she ended up sitting on the floor. The two were very close, both enjoying the moment. In the lingering warmth after the hairdryer was turned off, they shared a kiss that belonged only to the deep of the night.
The next morning, Xu Wei had to go to school to grade the first-year high schoolers' papers. In a daze, Deng Chuan only remembered Xu Wei kissing her a few times and telling her that breakfast was on the dining table before she hurried out the door.
The grading would take all day, and they would all eat lunch together in the school cafeteria. Deng Chuan got out of bed, bored. Not wanting to disturb Xu Wei's work, she played a few rounds of online games with Pei Qingyu and caught her up on recent events.
Pei Qingyu lost two out of three racing games. After hearing what Deng Chuan had to say, she scorned her, "Choosing romance over friendship. You never used to go on trips with us, but now you're so diligent about keeping Teacher Xu company."
As she spoke, she quickly lost the fourth round. "I'm done, I'm done." She spoke to Su Mian on the voice call, "Why aren't you joining? Weren't you just here?"
She mumbled something unintelligible. Deng Chuan casually replied, "I don't know," and lowered her head to reply to Xu Wei's message.
Before she knew it, it was already noon. Xu Wei said she had ordered takeout for her and reminded Deng Chuan to answer the delivery driver's call. She then asked what she had been doing all morning.
Deng Chuan replied honestly: Playing games with Pei Qingyu.
Xu Wei didn't mind at all: Then you guys have fun. I'll rest for a bit after lunch, then I have to get back to grading.
Okay, Deng Chuan replied, adding: You're working hard.
She told Xu Wei: I'll give you a good hug when you get home.
For once, Xu Wei acted cute in their chat: And kisses too.
Deng Chuan sent a sticker of a fierce-looking cat, indicating that the mission to kiss her was a duty she couldn't shirk.
The two were sweet to each other for a while. Xu Wei's head was spinning from staring at the computer screen all morning, so she was going to take a nap. She said good afternoon to Deng Chuan.
Deng Chuan replied contentedly, Good afternoon.
The day passed quickly. Xu Wei got off work a little late and brought dinner back for Deng Chuan. The lights weren't on when she entered the apartment. She called out tentatively, "Deng Chuan?"
She was immediately startled by Deng Chuan, who was sitting on the windowsill by the entrance. "What are you doing sitting here? And with the lights off."
The hallway light dimmed, leaving the room lit only by the faint glow from outside. Deng Chuan opened her arms towards Xu Wei, her tone free and easy. "I missed you. I was waiting for you to come back."
Xu Wei leaned down to hug her, nuzzling her face and sighing softly. "Why are you so clingy?"
It must have been cold outside; Xu Wei's face was cool against hers. Deng Chuan tightened her arms, smelling the faint scent of perfume on her, along with a hint of smoke. Was it from one of the teachers grading papers with her today? She immediately thought of Mediterranean's annoying face, and her tone involuntarily deepened as she mumbled in reply, "At home, there's nothing to do, so I can only think of you."
"I missed you too."
Xu Wei cupped the little friend's fluffy head and leaned in to look into her eyes, her tone as light as if she were telling a fairy tale. "You said you were going to hug me. Now that you've hugged me, well, aren't you going to kiss me?"
