BSS - Chapter 67

Chapter 67

"Happy birthday," Deng Chuan said in a low voice, holding her tightly.

The Little Friend's deepened voice was soft and gentle, like a small moon in the room. Xu Wei cupped her face and looked at her, a sweet smile playing on her lips. "Are you being silly?"

Deng Chuan tightened her grip on Xu Wei's waist, her fingers pulling the small ring from the gift box. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Telling you now is the same." Xu Wei moved her fingers, stroking Deng Chuan's lips, but Deng Chuan caught her hand.

Xu Wei asked her, "What's wrong?"

As if a victorious general displaying her spoils, or as if crowning a new monarch, Deng Chuan opened her palm under Xu Wei's surprised gaze, revealing the ring. She slowly slid it onto the middle finger of Xu Wei's left hand.

The simple white ring glinted faintly in the shifting light and shadow. Deng Chuan held Xu Wei's hand, gently kissed her palm, and said again, "Happy birthday."

Xu Wei's gaze was as soft as the faint floral scent in the room.

Having just showered, Xu Wei's fingertips were still damp. Deng Chuan smelled the scent of spring on those fragrant, moist fingertips. She pressed her face closer to Xu Wei's hand, feeling the coolness of the ring at the base of her finger against her own hot cheek, and moved in to find her lips.

Xu Wei let her, closing her eyes.

The appearance of the ring was just a small surprise; everything was still going according to Xu Wei's original plan. But the ring made Xu Wei's heart grow softer, hotter. She indulged Deng Chuan's forceful, somewhat clumsy kiss. Her hand slid down from Deng Chuan's face, stroking the curve of her throat. With a slight movement of her fingertips, she felt Deng Chuan's swallow travel along her fingers.

Deng Chuan caught the smile at the corner of her lips.

She looked into her eyes.

Their eyes met at an extremely close distance. Both saw their true selves reflected in the other's eyes. The dim yellow lightbulb was still flickering, making their love seem like an inextinguishable candlelight. Xu Wei wrapped her arms around Deng Chuan's neck and said softly, "Carry me over."

Xu Wei's back was slender. Deng Chuan lifted her effortlessly, and they both landed on the soft bed. Xu Wei put a hand on Deng Chuan's shoulder. "Wait."

She reached over to get something from the nightstand.

The Little Friend had more or less done her homework. With a flash of understanding, she tried to take the item from Xu Wei's hand but was stopped, only managing to touch the back of her hand.

Xu Wei had also grabbed a nail clipper. She held Deng Chuan's hand to inspect it. Their hands, close together under the flickering light, looked particularly intimate. Deng Chuan's mind began to wander, and she wiggled her fingertips slightly, only for Xu Wei to catch them firmly. "Don't move."

Xu Wei had always been patient. She carefully finished clipping Deng Chuan's nails and filed the edges smooth before getting to the main event.

After finishing her series of preparations, she looked up and kissed the cooperative Little Friend's nose. "Good girl."

The Little Friend was on top, clearly in the dominant position, yet she was so inexperienced she didn't know where to look. Xu Wei wrapped her arms around her neck, her hand reaching for the switch on the headboard, and turned off all the lights in the room.

In the darkness, Deng Chuan could only feel Xu Wei's soft lips and tongue. Moving lower, she found her prominent collarbone. The room was quiet; Zhou Liu had run off somewhere. As the atmosphere thickened, Deng Chuan no longer had time for stray thoughts, sinking into the springtime named Xu Wei.

It wasn't too late yet. Outside the curtains was the lively residential complex. Bright square after bright square of windows reflected the moving silhouettes of people behind them-family, friends, lovers. All these ordinary people were living out their own nights.

There were some reddish clouds on the horizon; it might rain tomorrow.

Inside, the thin blanket was thrown aside. Deng Chuan could only feel the sweat trickling down her back. A drop slid down her neck, bringing a slight tickle. Fortunately, the air conditioning was on, and it dried in a moment.

It even felt a little cool. She pulled the blanket back over them, holding Xu Wei, who was lying on the other side of the bed.

The other side of the bed was no longer usable; the air conditioner couldn't dry it. The two of them squeezed together. Xu Wei leaned quietly against Deng Chuan, drawing a little warmth from her body.

Deng Chuan kissed Xu Wei's neck intermittently, being very clingy. Feeling the heat and the tickle, Xu Wei shrank into her embrace and took hold of the hand on her waist. "There are clean sheets in the closet. Get up and change them."

For once, Deng Chuan didn't listen. She pulled Xu Wei on top of her and looked at her with a smile. "We'll change them later…"

Xu Wei propped herself up on Deng Chuan's shoulders, tilting her head back as if to say something, but Deng Chuan pulled the thin blanket completely over their heads.

It was stuffy and sticky under the blanket. They couldn't see each other's faces, leaving only primal touch. Their breaths mingled as heat descended layer by layer, from their sweating skin to their hearts, until the heat became a constant sensation. In the heat and darkness, they abandoned everything, seeking only the last remaining beautiful things in the world-everything about the other person.

Midnight passed without them noticing.

Deng Chuan held Xu Wei and rested for a while before remembering to check the time. It was one-thirty in the morning. She sighed in annoyance, lamenting that Xu Wei hadn't eaten her birthday cake yet. Xu Wei planted a kiss on the side of her face. "Mmm-so sweet-"

The other side of the sheet was also unusable now. Having messed around until the middle of the night, both of them were completely drained. They got up to change the sheets and then each took another shower.

Deng Chuan went into the kitchen to heat up a late-night snack for Xu Wei. Looking out the kitchen window, she saw that most of the lights in the complex were off, with only a few windows still lit. Deng Chuan looked up but couldn't see the moon. Noticing the slightly reddish sky, she decided she and Xu Wei would stay cooped up at home tomorrow.

She simply reheated the leftovers from dinner and the small wontons they'd bought at the night market, filling the table. Xu Wei took a long time in the shower. Deng Chuan sat at the dining table waiting for a while before she finally came out, drying her long hair.

Seeing Deng Chuan waiting for her, Xu Wei paid no mind to her still-dripping hair, tossed the towel into the laundry basket, and walked barefoot to the table. Deng Chuan pulled out a chair for her. She glanced up lazily, her expression holding a clean, sated beauty that made Deng Chuan's mind race.

As if seeing Xu Wei for the first time, Deng Chuan couldn't help but study her closely. She watched her lower her head to take a bite of a wonton, a small, satisfied smile appearing on her face. She watched the corners of her mouth move as she chewed, and below them, the large patch of dark red on her fair neck.

Deng Chuan watched while mechanically opening her mouth to eat her congee.

Xu Wei quickly noticed the Little Friend's subtle gaze. She met Deng Chuan's prying eyes openly and raised an eyebrow. "What are you secretly looking at me for?"

Deng Chuan collected herself and said dryly, "You're beautiful."

Xu Wei smiled. "Am I?"

Seeing Deng Chuan nod, she asked with amusement, "Haven't you already seen everything?"

She didn't expect the Little Friend's face to turn red in an instant.

So innocent. She was like a completely different person from just a moment ago.

Thinking this, Xu Wei couldn't help but smile again.

Her smile fell into Deng Chuan's eyes like a drop of water hitting a lake, immediately creating ripples. Deng Chuan's heart trembled with those ripples, becoming uncontrollably gentle.

Zhou Liu smelled the late-night snack and stood eagerly by the table, looking from Xu Wei to Deng Chuan. In the end, he chose to jump onto Deng Chuan's lap, craning his neck to look at the table, only to have his head held down by Deng Chuan's hand.

The cat, with its head held down, meowed softly. It nudged futilely against Deng Chuan's palm for a moment before jumping off her lap and going to find a ball to play with on its own.

While eating her wontons, Xu Wei watched this small interaction between them, feeling a tranquility she had never known before.

After finishing their snack, the two of them cleared the table. Zhou Liu was doing parkour in the living room, knocking things off the coffee table several times, until Deng Chuan confiscated his ball.

After being lectured, Zhou Liu followed Xu Wei into the bedroom dejectedly to sleep.

Deng Chuan took the trash out to the bin by the door. When she returned to the bedroom, Zhou Liu was nestled in Xu Wei's arms. Xu Wei was stroking his head absently while reading a book.

Seeing Deng Chuan come in, she moved Zhou Liu aside and looked up at her. "Alright, let's go to sleep."

The lights in the room were turned off again, and the atmosphere became quiet and warm. Deng Chuan reached out and pulled Xu Wei into her arms, feeling her gently nuzzle against her calf.

The tickle and reality of skin-on-skin contact fascinated Deng Chuan. She couldn't control her attachment to Xu Wei and held her tightly.

In the state between sleep and wakefulness, Deng Chuan felt cool fingertips brush across her face as Xu Wei's scent gradually enveloped her. She opened her eyes and saw Xu Wei watching her quietly.

In the darkness, their gazes lost their usual form, conveying only the emotions they carried.

Deng Chuan sensed the complex emotions in Xu Wei's gaze and raised a hand to touch her face. "Can't sleep?"

The way Xu Wei rubbed her face against her palm was very much like Zhou Liu.

Thinking this, Deng Chuan patiently lowered her head to coax her. "Are you not feeling well?"

She could feel that Xu Wei, in her arms, was embarrassed, because she turned her head slightly. "No."

Deng Chuan pressed her forehead against hers, moving closer. "Then what is it?"

Xu Wei didn't say anything. Only when sleepiness was about to envelop Deng Chuan again did she hear her call out softly, "Deng Chuan."

The Little Friend woke up instantly. "Yes. I'm here."

She was silent for a moment before saying softly, "I love you."

This was the second time Xu Wei had said she loved her. Deng Chuan's heart felt steady and soft. She had touched Xu Wei's true feelings, which surged along with the heat and tenderness in her own chest.

"Yes," she responded gently, her voice low. "I love you too."

Her hand found Xu Wei's, caressing the base of the finger where the ring was. "We have to be together forever."

"Forever…" Xu Wei's voice was dazed. "What do you know about forever…"

"I don't." In the darkness, Deng Chuan's gaze was filled with endless tenderness. Xu Wei felt her stare, and also felt her lips land beside her own.

"I don't know what forever is, but I will forever, forever tell you forever. Is that enough?"

The forever spoken by a young person was, at least in this moment, a sincere eternity. In this moment, Deng Chuan's words truly smoothed away all the sadness, doubt, and panic from Xu Wei's past. She closed her eyes and heard the person holding her whisper in her ear, "I will forever, forever love you."

She answered silently in her heart.

Me too.
