Chapter 167: Immortal Venerable × Meow Meow Cat (22)
Because Immortal Venerable Qingyun had suddenly accelerated on the return journey, she left Yun Qian far behind and arrived back at the central city of the Southern Xuan Kingdom ahead of schedule. The little cat, who loved to cause trouble in her collar, was carried by the scruff of her neck for the latter half of the trip.
Ever since turning into a cat, Chi Junluo's disposition had grown much lazier. Although she had been plucked from her cozy haven by the fateful scruff of her neck by her dear heroine, watching the scenery fly by at high altitude without any effort was still a kind of enjoyment. What's more, to care for the recently born cub, Immortal Venerable Qingyun had even wrapped the little kitten in layers of dense spiritual energy for protection. Chi Junluo watched the scenery contentedly, stretching her four limbs in comfort as she was safely brought to the central city of the Southern Xuan Kingdom.
Before entering the city, the woman and the cat landed a few miles outside the walls. After presenting her Xianyuan Sect elder's identity token, they entered the city smoothly. Declining the enthusiastic invitations from officials of all ranks, Immortal Venerable Qingyun led the little Chi-cat directly to their lodging, Jianxin Tower.
Jianxin Tower was a magnificent building constructed at great expense on a lake island in the center of the city. Only prominent cultivators and powerful dignitaries were qualified to stay there.
Jianxin Tower had seven floors. The higher a guest's cultivation and the more distinguished their status, the higher the floor they were qualified to occupy. Between each room on every floor were small defensive barriers jointly set up by Golden Core cultivators. These barriers had a one-way soundproofing effect: people outside could not hear any sounds from within the room, but those inside could hear everything outside. This arrangement gave every room in Jianxin Tower an extremely high degree of privacy. Many dignitaries and various sects would book meeting rooms here with peace of mind. Of course, there were inevitably those like Yun Qian who, relying on the strength of their sect, disliked the quiet environment, or had other ulterior motives, and would choose more lively and luxurious hotels. Those other establishments were more expensive and offered a full suite of services for eating, drinking, and entertainment. For young disciples or young, profligate nobles, Jianxin Tower was too quiet and dull, lacking moonlit trysts and elegant pastimes. Perhaps only seniors focused on cultivation or those who preferred tranquility were willing to stay at the almost-undisturbed Jianxin Tower.
Besides assigning floors based on strength, cultivators from various sects could freely choose rooms within their designated range. Without painstaking effort, it was nearly impossible to find out who was staying in which room. No one knew what kind of person was living next door. Jianxin Tower had only two managers, whose half-step Nascent Soul cultivation levels deterred anyone from causing trouble. Even the handful of attendants were at the Golden Core stage or above. The attendants would never disturb a guest when they were in their room, and they were tight-lipped. Coupled with the powerful backing of Jianxin Tower, no one was willing to stir up trouble on this small lake island. Those tracking others would often stop their pursuit at Jianxin Tower.
Although repairing two seals by herself was an extremely draining task, the originally weary Immortal Venerable Qingyun had been roused by the mischievous scratches of the little demon cat on the way back. A rare flurry of thoughts filled her mind, and she managed to rally some of her spirits. She remembered something she had forgotten while repairing the seals: she must take a moment of leisure to check the gender of this newborn demon cat. After all, the upbringing of demon races of different genders would surely be different. She had almost forgotten about it.
Still worried about her little disciple lost in the forest, Immortal Venerable Qingyun decided to act quickly. She would confirm the demon cat's gender as fast as possible, settle it in the room to rest, and then she could rush back to the ancient forest to find her disciple.
Still dangling by the scruff of her neck, her four limbs paddling lazily in the air, Chi Junluo had no idea what she was about to face.
Downstairs, Immortal Venerable Qingyun politely declined the enthusiastic hospitality of the Jianxin Tower manager and quickly selected a heaven-grade room on the top floor. With a faint surge of spiritual energy at her feet, she appeared at the door of her chosen room in the blink of an eye. The room card, specially made from a top-grade spirit stone, allowed Immortal Venerable Qingyun to smoothly enter the bright room with the little kitten. The barrier rippled for a moment before returning to calm.
Upon entering the room, Immortal Venerable Qingyun first confirmed its overall safety. Her eyes swept over a hard, ice-cold table in the eastern part of the room, crafted from deep-blue undersea spirit stones. This type of spirit stone, which naturally emitted a cold aura, was excellent for preserving pills and herbs needed for cultivation. However, considering this poor little kitten had just survived a severe injury, placing it on the table could allow the cold to enter its body. A cub's fragile meridians were also more susceptible to damage from the impact of spiritual energy. After considering all these factors, which in reality took but a single breath, Immortal Venerable Qingyun walked directly toward the soft, large bed not far away. Chi Junluo, still moving through the air, saw only a blur before her body landed gently on the incredibly soft, sea-blue bed.
Having been carried by the scruff of her neck for so long, Chi Junluo was still processing the sudden return to solid ground when she saw her heroine standing by the bed, bending over. That exquisitely beautiful face drew closer and closer.
Watching this seemingly slow-motion scene, Chi Junluo's breathing grew cautious, afraid of shattering this beautiful moment. Inside her chest, a little cat's heart thumped faster and faster.
Just as time seemed to stand still, just as Chi Junluo wished this moment could be frozen forever, her two hind legs were suddenly pulled apart by her dear heroine.
Chi-cat: ???!!
The change was too sudden. Taking advantage of the kitten's daze, Immortal Venerable Qingyun lowered her head and carefully confirmed the little demon cat's gender. To ensure the result was more rigorous and precise, she even reached out and thoroughly prodded and felt around a few times. Then, she confirmed with relief that this poor little cub was not male, and she let out an unconscious sigh of relief.
Chi Junluo had never imagined that in this world, she would be publicly spread-eagled by her heroine in the form of a kitten. The intense, scrutinizing gaze was impossible for this divine beast's body to ignore. Although its appearance was that of a cub, this body was, in fact, long past maturity. The naked stare made her cat body tremble slightly. Before she could recover from the feeling of her private parts being visually baptized, her heroine's hand descended upon them!
What utter shame for a divine beast! Chi Junluo's eyes widened, and amidst the groping, she almost let out an indescribable sound.
Fortunately, the exploration ended quickly. Chi Junluo's little tail was frozen stiff between her hind legs from the stimulation. After finishing her inspection, Immortal Venerable Qingyun raised her gaze and saw a small cat face filled with shock, its eyes wide with terror. Immortal Venerable Qingyun didn't know why she could read such complex emotions on a non-human face, but having had little contact with the demon race, she naturally attributed it to their unique characteristics.
The sudden event threw Chi Junluo's thoughts into disarray. She stared blankly with her small, pink cat mouth agape, her little tongue slightly curled, frozen motionless on the bed as a frantic barrage of comments scrolled through her sea of consciousness.
No way, no way! Does the heroine of this world have… such a hobby???
(Heroine: I'm not! I don't!)
While the little kitten was still in a daze, Immortal Venerable Qingyun carefully rummaged through her storage ring. It contained countless spiritual herbs and fruits rich with spiritual energy, but they were clearly unsuitable for a fragile little kitten like this. If a cub with weak and unstable meridians were to rashly eat these fruits, it might just explode in the next instant.
Perhaps she should go find some fresh beast milk for this little black cat.
She took out Chi Jun's disciple identity token again. Seeing the active spiritual energy on it, Immortal Venerable Qingyun was temporarily relieved. Her little disciple was not in mortal danger for now. As soon as she settled the cub, she would immediately go find her.
As for her eldest disciple, Yun Qian, Immortal Venerable Qingyun was very confident he could take care of himself. In the blink of an eye, she put him out of her mind, not even bothering to worry.
The room door creaked open and then clicked shut. Immortal Venerable Qingyun had already left in a hurry to find beast milk.
Yun Qian, taking advantage of the sparse population in the forest, had transformed into demonic qi and barely managed to rush back to the central city. He finally learned from the government office that his master had gone to Jianxin Tower. He had originally decided to go have some fun at Yunxiao Tower, but he changed his mind and hurried toward Jianxin Tower instead.
Yunxiao Tower was a secret outpost left in the central city of the Southern Xuan Kingdom thousands of years ago by his father, the current Demon Lord. Year after year, it had slowly evolved into a luxurious grand hotel. Outwardly, it appeared to be a place of hedonism, but it was actually a secret intelligence network, quietly gathering information on the human and cultivation worlds. Yun Qian had initially planned to connect with the people at Yunxiao Tower first, but now it seemed it didn't matter if he went sooner or later. Feeling a sense of crisis, Yun Qian decided his priority was to stick close to Immortal Venerable Qingyun. If possible, he had to find an opportunity to eliminate the little demon cat that was giving him this feeling of unease.
By the time Yun Qian scrambled to Jianxin Tower and, using his status as Immortal Venerable Qingyun's direct disciple, finally managed to wheedle her room number out of the manager, he noticed two empty rooms nearby. He casually took a key card for one and, after a hasty thank you to the manager, rushed upstairs.
After calling out "Master" several times with no response, he realized Immortal Venerable Qingyun was not in the room. Without a key card, he couldn't get past the barrier to enter. Inside the room, however, Chi Junluo, who was still in a daze, was snapped back to her senses by those insufferably pretentious calls of "Master." Recognizing the greasy male lead's grating voice, Chi Junluo rolled off the bed and pattered over to the window facing the corridor. She pushed the window open with a small paw and poked her little black cat head out.
