VBNWDW - Chapter 103
Chapter 103
When later generations spoke of Sir Mo Wen's life, they all sighed with envy. Some scholars even said that compared to Her Majesty the Queen, she was more like the child favored by the gods.
She was born into a noble family, learned the etiquette of a knight from her mother since childhood, and after coming of age, followed Her Majesty the Queen, naturally becoming the Queen's most trusted right hand.
Subsequently, she followed the Queen into battles far and wide, was fortunate enough to form a contract with the Purple Cloud Eagle that would later become a ninth-tier magical beast, and even visited the legendary Dragon Island, receiving the blessing of the Dragon Clan.
This blessing protected her for her entire life, allowing her to easily escape countless perilous situations. Some joked that the greatest hardship she ever faced was getting her head cracked open while protecting the dragon egg.
But the most talked-about story of her life was her resolute decision to be with the necromancer, Ivo.
However, the beginning of the story was not exactly beautiful.
At least in Ivo's eyes, Sir Mo Wen truly seemed like a fool at first.
She didn't understand how Sir Julieta had raised her child. Compared to the people from the Council families, Mo Wen possessed far too many things that shouldn't exist—things like kindness, justice, and even a compassion that the people of the Temple of Light lacked.
These were qualities one should never possess when living in a great family. At least, that's what Ivo, the most unwelcome illegitimate daughter, believed. If she had been even a little merciful, she would have ended up buried in the ground like her siblings of similar birth.
But this was perfect. It was perfect for Ivo to take advantage of her.
Even though she didn't understand where Mo Wen's guilt came from, she chose to deepen it. For instance, by letting Mo Wen "happen to" learn that the grilled fish was the only thing her mother had wanted to eat before she died.
To be honest, Ivo didn't have much affection for this mother. Her so-called love had caused half a lifetime of suffering for both of them and had branded Ivo with the lifelong title of an illegitimate daughter.
They could have lived a peaceful life in the countryside, but because of a single sentence, her mother had dragged Ivo into a pit of fire. They were ostracized and bullied; even the servants' daughters were far nobler than they were.
But since it was her mother's only request as she lay dying, Ivo still chose to agree. She took out her hard-earned savings—three copper coins—and bought half a portion of grilled fish.
When the grilled fish fell to the ground, Ivo thought that perhaps this was the will of the gods—that she had sinned so much in her life that she couldn't even fulfill a final wish.
However, this turned out to be the only useful thing her mother had ever done for her.
When the kind knight learned of this, her guilt predictably deepened. She not only offered to tutor Ivo but also picked out a suitable magic staff for her. Her previous staff had been garbage that the family had thrown to her after it was broken.
What a useful fool, Ivo thought. A proper staff was far more expensive than half a portion of grilled fish. It was a choice no normal person would make.
But later events proved that Mo Wen was indeed not a normal person.
She actually tried to persuade her not to sign the contract with the dragon, saying that if Ivo agreed, she would turn back right then and plead with the Queen and Lord Black Dragon on her behalf. She was even willing to return what she had just received to Lord Black Dragon.
Honestly, Ivo didn't think the deal was unfair. Without the dragon, she would have probably died in some unknown corner after a while, her body discarded in the wilderness just like her mother's, which had already turned to bone.
It had given her the chance to become powerful and had promised to leave the Iliana Family for her to deal with. It was a very worthwhile trade. Even if she had to give up her freedom and her life, when had she ever possessed either?
What was the difference between an illegitimate daughter who could be ordered around at will and a slave?
Only people like her, who had been valued by their families and doted on by their parents since childhood, would care so much about so-called freedom.
Sir Mo Wen was always so baffling, stirring up emotions that Ivo couldn't understand.
For example, the daily escorts under the Queen's orders. It was the best way to make the other families suspicious of the Iliana Family, yet the little knight felt incredibly guilty about it, thinking they were using Ivo.
Another example: when she was taking revenge on the Iliana Family, Mo Wen stood beside her, holding an umbrella.
The scene was truly a bit bizarre. Even though Ivo considered herself twisted enough, she still found the image strange.
She slaughtered the people who had once bullied her and her mother, one by one, locking their souls in a prison to suffer endless pain and wail for eternity.
The knight who represented justice stood behind her, neither stopping her nor making a sound, just watching quietly.
Before her was a hellish sea of blood; behind her was a silent light. Ivo stood between the two, pulled back by Mo Wen, saved from falling into the abyss.
So foolish.
But Ivo had to admit, such a person was rare and precious, like a glittering jewel.
Perhaps that was also why Lord Black Dragon favored her so much. Although she constantly teased her on the surface, anyone with eyes could see the special care the dragon showed her.
Even later, when everyone else was sent away, Mo Wen was kept behind specifically to protect the Queen and Her Highness, which showed how much they trusted Sir Mo Wen.
So it was no surprise that she had fallen for such a person.
It was just that Sir Mo Wen was incredibly dense in this regard. Even with Lord Black Dragon helping several times, she remained clueless. She actually thought Ivo was moving out and knocked on her door in the middle of the night.
Really...
It was hard to imagine that Sir Mo Wen had been raised by two women, yet had absolutely no sense of boundaries with the same sex.
The last time she carried Ivo home, she shocked Julieta and her wife into thinking their daughter was kidnapping a maiden in broad daylight.
And now she was climbing through Ivo's window at night, making a huge racket and assuming Ivo was still asleep, then sitting by the bed and muttering to herself.
If Ivo had woken up just a moment later, this person would have been chased by several hundred undead spirits.
But... never mind. Seeing as she had been rambling for half the day, Ivo was willing to wait for the dense knight to finally realize it, even though many of the things she did were already like those of a partner.
Like using the excuse of delivering messages for Lord Black Dragon to bring her clothes and letters.
Or finding Ivo the moment she returned from Dragon Island to let her know she was safe.
Or thinking of Ivo while on military campaigns, often asking people to deliver local specialties from various places.
But despite such obvious actions, there were still tactless people who tried to get involved. After all, Sir Mo Wen was the most sought-after new noble in Anthelia City.
With an excellent family background and a clean reputation, the knightly education she received from a young age made her righteous and gentle. Coupled with her handsome looks, she had become the most popular figure among the young men and women of Anthelia City.
It wasn't that no one could compare to her, but Her Majesty the Queen and General Talia had both married young, so the fervor for the sole remaining bachelorette, Mo Wen, was even more intense.
Every time she returned to the city from a campaign, she would draw a huge crowd of onlookers. Some people even waited at the city gates from the middle of the night just to get a spot in the front row.
So, when Mo Wen appeared at the classroom door in her armor, the entire class erupted. They were no longer afraid of even the strictest and coldest teacher, Ivo, and kept turning their heads to look out the window.
Mo Wen wasn't doing it on purpose, of course. She was just too dense about these things and assumed everyone was celebrating another victorious return for the army. So she raised a bright smile, waved at the people inside, and triggered a wave of cheers.
Then she took a restrained step back, preparing to wait for Ivo to finish class so they could go home together.
This was another of Lord Black Dragon's arrangements. Whenever they weren't leading troops on a campaign, they would be assigned to teach at the academy. It was said to be beneficial for soothing their emotions and preventing any combat stress.
Mo Wen didn't quite understand all that, but after experiencing bloody battles, coming to a school campus and seeing so many young, vibrant faces did help her relax a little.
However, Ivo was not as happy as she had imagined. With a cold expression, she announced the end of class, then grabbed Mo Wen's wrist and strode out.
And then, General Mo Wen, who had been so popular just moments before, was suddenly slammed against the wall by the stairwell, pinned there by an enraged Ivo.
She looked down in confusion, asking like a block of wood, "What's wrong?"
The other woman let out a laugh of pure anger and said through gritted teeth, "Did Sir Mo Wen rush back just to seduce my students?"
Her words were harsh, especially the word "seduce," which could be considered excessive.
Mo Wen blinked, her face full of helplessness. "I just wanted to see you sooner."
She looked like a big dog that had done something wrong, gazing pitifully at the other woman. "Did I do something wrong? I'm sorry, Ivo."
Even without understanding what her mistake was, she chose to apologize first. She was always like this, especially in front of Ivo—showing weakness before she had even figured out the problem.
But this time, Ivo didn't forgive her. She suddenly stood on her tiptoes, grabbed her by the collar, tilted her head up, and kissed her fiercely.
"If you weren't seducing them, then you must have been trying to seduce me. Why else would you smile at the classroom?"
Smiling so beautifully.
Mo Wen's eyes widened. Her entire body went rigid, pressed tightly against the wall.
What is Ivo saying!
She forgot to resist, allowing the other woman to roughly steal her first kiss.
It was an inexperienced and reckless kiss. It left Mo Wen's lips numb, her skin bitten and broken, her mouth filled with the taste of rust.
The sound of laughter from the classroom still reached her ears. Before the final bell rang, students couldn't leave the room even after class was dismissed—a rule established by Lord Black Dragon.
But that didn't stop them from being noisy. Mo Wen could even hear her own name, as if they were discussing something.
But Mo Wen couldn't hear clearly. She only felt blood rushing to her head, her heart pounding, her whole body burning up.
What is Ivo doing...
She didn't know how to respond, or if she even should. Not until Ivo took a step back and hurried away.
The school bell rang right after, its shrill sound echoing through every corner of the campus. As footsteps emerged from the classroom, Mo Wen covered her swollen lips with one hand and fled in a panic.
After that, Mo Wen avoided her for a long time. Even though she often took detours to watch Ivo train, earning the ridicule of the Purple Cloud Eagle, she didn't dare approach her as she had before. The walk home together became silent.
This continued until Lord Black Dragon noticed something was amiss and sought Mo Wen out.
Although Lord Black Dragon was very unreliable and always teased her, she was a great help at that moment. She enlightened the confused and dense little knight, allowing Mo Wen to truly face her own heart.
Unfortunately, the counseling session went on for so long that it was late at night by the time Mo Wen got home. She could only suppress her excitement, force herself into bed, and resolve to clear things up with Ivo first thing in the morning.
Yes, she liked Ivo. Although she was a bit dense and slow in this regard, she had indeed fallen for Ivo a long time ago.
The little knight was thinking this over with a smile on her face when her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her door being kicked open.
Startled, Mo Wen immediately looked up and saw Ivo, who should have been asleep, walking toward her in a nightgown.
"Ivo..."
Mo Wen frowned, unsure whether she should confess her feelings first or tell Ivo to put on a jacket. The nights had been a little cool lately. What if she caught a cold running out in such a thin dress?
But the other woman just gave a faint smile and chanted a spell. Chilling elements bound Mo Wen to the bed. Then Ivo sat on top of her and said with that same smile, "I heard you went to ask Lord Black Dragon what two women are supposed to do together?"
Mo Wen's eyes widened. She had asked Lord Black Dragon many things, but she hadn't mentioned that topic at all!
She had just opened her mouth to explain when Ivo leaned down and sealed her lips.
Ivo said, "If Sir Knight wants to know, why don't you let me teach you?"
Ivo said, "As thanks for Sir Knight's care over so many years, there will be no charge this time."
Mo Wen didn't hear the rest of her words clearly, but she did get to physically experience the answer to the question she had never asked.
