VBNWDW - Chapter 102
Chapter 102
It had been two months since the dragon Metis signed a contract with Princess Yueqing.
According to the agreement between the Dragon Clan and the Roy Kingdom, it had to accompany the princess from her time as a princess until she became queen, and then through the remaining decades of her life.
Metis had no complaints; after all, the Roy Kingdom would be paying it a great deal of gold and jewels as compensation.
The only thing that troubled Metis was that this little princess was far more troublesome than the partners of other dragons.
For example, she loved shiny things even more than a dragon. Her bedroom, her bed, and even her dresses were adorned with gold and inlaid with gems.
As a result, Metis found it impossible to resist staying in her room. It even had to constantly restrain its claws to keep from digging them into the mattress and chairs, lest the little queen look at it with tear-filled eyes.
What a pain…
Metis once again pressed down its dragon claws, recalling the first time it couldn't help but pry off a gem. It was just an inconspicuous sapphire, but it made the little queen stand before it and weep for half the day.
The ancestral memories left by generations of dragons did not include knowledge on how to coax humans. So Metis awkwardly tried to soothe her for a long time, and in the end, could only pay ten times the price to make the little princess stop crying.
At that thought, the dragon's heart began to ache again, and its restless claws calmed down.
How could there be such a delicate princess, Metis thought helplessly, even more unreasonable than a foul-tempered dragon.
It even suspected that the current king simply couldn't stand his daughter's mischief anymore, and so had found a suitable nanny for her.
She needed a story before bed, kicked off her blankets while asleep, had to hug something to sleep soundly, and was grumpy upon waking.
It was hard work for a magnificent dragon like itself. It had to rack its brains to recall ancient stories, avoid the bloody parts, embellish everything, and then soften its voice to tell the princess a story.
It couldn't sleep peacefully at night, either. It was either covering the princess with her blanket or having to offer its tail to replace the doll she'd dropped, only to be hugged tightly.
That would have been fine; a dragon could endure it. But this girl always had strange dreams, biting the tip of its tail in the middle of the night, sucking and gnawing. The force wasn't heavy, but it disturbed the dragon's sleep all night.
Then in the morning, she would kick the dragon's tail a couple of times and, puffing her cheeks, order the dragon to kill everyone who was trying to wake her up.
The dragon: …
My dear princess, could you please see who is outside trying to wake you?
Your father the King and mother the Queen, my employers. Can I kill them?
The dragon could only bury its head and pretend to be asleep, only to be grabbed by the tail by the lawless Princess Yueqing and dragged towards the classroom.
How hateful…
How could there be such a wicked princess? She wouldn't listen properly in class, and after flipping just a few pages of a book, she'd want it to help her skip class.
Can't you see the teacher is standing right there? She has no sense at all. If you're going to skip class, you should at least wait for the teacher to turn around.
Metis would never admit that it, too, was tired of the old man's nagging. It was the wicked little princess who insisted on taking it out, forcing it to wander the night markets, buy jewelry, and play around everywhere.
Therefore, the king only punishing the princess and not itself was a very correct decision.
But, when she was being punished, could they separate the dragon from her? Otherwise, this bad princess would grab its horns and force the dragon to help her with the punishment of copying lines.
The dragon's heart was bitter. It was a magnificent deep-sea dragon; wherever it went, it was an existence to be admired, to be offered gifts.
But here with Yueqing, it had to miserably grip a pen with its dragon claws. The quill was smaller than its claw; it couldn't even hold it with two digits!
In the end, Metis had no choice but to change into its human form to copy the so-called Roy Decrees, all the while having to stop the princess from taking advantage of it out of boredom.
Yes, as a princess, she actually wanted to take advantage of a dragon.
One moment, she would sit on Metis's lap, wrap an arm around her, and look at the dragon with sparkling, gilded eyes, saying something like, "I never knew you were so beautiful."
The next, she would take Metis's hand, brush aside her golden hair, and even show intentions toward the dragon's collarbones.
Metis was utterly helpless and ended up dazedly copying all the decrees for her.
But no matter how unreasonable you are, you can't drag a dragon to bathe with you, can you?
Even if we are the same sex, our species are different. But Your Highness, could you please slow down when you take off your clothes?
The dragon was shocked. The dragon was furious. The dragon stared wide-eyed, then pulled the little princess over and lectured her for an hour about protecting one's privacy.
But that stubborn princess actually retorted, "Are you an outsider? Aren't you my contract dragon?"
Of course I'm not an outsider, but contract partners can't just do whatever they want, okay!
But Yueqing didn't appreciate it, and even teased with a smile, "Metis, you're really too old-fashioned, just like my great-grandmother."
If they were going by age, her great-grandmother would have to call this one-thousand-two-hundred-year-old dragon "great-great-grandmother."
Metis's eyelids twitched with anger. In the end, to prove it wasn't old-fashioned, it jumped into the steaming pool.
In the white, misty steam, it vaguely saw a flash of cunning on Yueqing's face, like that of a long-scheming hunter, as it finally jumped into the trap.
But Metis didn't have time to think about it before the little princess clung to it, clamoring that it was bigger than her.
What kind of thing is that to say!
Doesn't your Roy Kingdom have etiquette teachers to tell the princess what can and cannot be said?!
Metis kept a straight face and silently sank deeper into the hot water, hiding its steam-flushed face.
Truly a mischievous princess who spouts nonsense. Besides being beautiful and rich, she had no good qualities.
It didn't know how that person from the neighboring country had taken a fancy to her, bringing over a dozen chests of gems and promising the king and queen that he was willing to give up his right of succession, stay in the Roy Kingdom, and protect the princess with his life for all his days.
Men's words are nothing but lies. He says he'll give up his claim, but what if he regrets it later? He talks about protecting her with his life, but when trouble actually strikes, he'll probably run faster than anyone.
Metis didn't believe his nonsense for a second.
But she couldn't stop the king's decision. After all, the man had passed all the king and queen's tests, proving himself to be a reliable, kind, and honest person.
Moreover, he could tolerate all of Yueqing's bad tempers, whether it was deliberately leading him into a trap to fall into a large pit, placing a bucket of water over the door to drench him, or even intentionally putting a laxative in his dinner. He never got angry and left because of it.
What could a dragon do? When a princess comes of age, she has to obey the king's arrangements and marry.
Even though it had dug a deep enough pit, put ice in the bucket, and learned how to make the most terrible laxative from a wizard, it only managed to make the man break his leg, fall gravely ill from the cold, and sit on the toilet for three days and three nights. It couldn't drive him away at all.
The dragon silently ranked this human alongside the most detestable slugs, and then watched as the city fell into a frenzied celebration for the princess's wedding.
So annoying. What was so good about that hopelessly weak human? He couldn't even withstand a single one of a dragon's claws.
The dragon secretly wondered if the king and queen also couldn't stand Yueqing's temper and wanted to palm her off on someone else, just as they had palmed her off on it.
When the wedding was about to begin, it was curled up in a corner of the castle, having decided to take a long nap and wake up in ten years. But just then, the princess, dressed in her wedding gown, suddenly appeared before it.
She said, "Metis, let's run away from the wedding!"
Hmm…
Huh?!
The dragon was shocked. Run away? Do you know the ceremony is about to start in the next second, and you want to run away now?
"Hurry, they're about to catch up," the princess urged, turning to look back as if pursuers were about to drag her back to get married.
What could the dragon do? What else could the dragon do?
The dragon could only lower its head and let the bride in her wedding dress step onto its back. As it beat its wings and took flight, it could already imagine the stories that would soon spread through the city of Anthelia.
The evil dragon snatched the beautiful princess from the hands of the kind and gentle groom at the wedding. The king was furious, the queen wept, and countless warriors swore to slay the dragon and reclaim their princess.
Speaking of which, would it still get its payment?
The dragon closed its eyes in anguish, then carried the princess back to its lair—a cave filled with gold coins and jewels.
The princess was very satisfied with this, as she also loved shiny things.
Metis, however, was in agony, because it knew its treasures were about to be taken away. But before that, it still had to change into human form and make the bed for the restless princess.
But making the bed was one thing… why did the princess suddenly lean in? And if she was going to lean in, why did she suddenly kiss her?
Metis was dazedly pushed down onto the bed. She raised her hands, which were now cuffed in iron chains, and stammered, "Are you going to tie me up and then take all my gold?"
Oh, right. Before that, she had also lost the first kiss she had saved for twelve hundred years.
What a wicked princess.
Metis gazed at Yueqing, who was sitting on her waist. She looked down at her, her face proud and bewitching, with her silver hair in disarray, her gilded eyes lowered, her exotic dark skin, and the mermaid-style wedding dress outlining her graceful curves.
Metis turned her head away and said in a low voice, "There's a hidden door under the gold coins. There are some more gems inside."
She was the princess she had raised, after all. She couldn't just watch her go out and starve.
Gold coins and gems… she could always save up more.
But Yueqing, still on top of her, laughed and said, "Not enough."
Not enough?
Metis thought for a moment. Her scales were also very valuable. If Yueqing needed them, she could tear off a few.
But the woman leaned down, bit her lip, and said, "Not enough. I need the whole dragon."
With a click, a leather collar appeared around Metis's neck. A small bell on it jingled incessantly. The attached leash was in the princess's hand; with the slightest pull, she could make Metis raise her head and follow her steps.
A greedy and wicked princess.
Metis tugged at the iron chains on her wrists. They were so fragile they would break with a gentle pull. She didn't know where Yueqing had found such an incompetent blacksmith who couldn't even forge a proper pair of handcuffs.
Oh well. She would try to be careful.
Metis grabbed the fur blanket, bent her legs, and watched as her little princess tugged on the collar and devoured the dragon, bite by bite.
Crystalline fluid soaked the fur and wet the gold coins scattered on the floor.
The dragon held a sapphire in its mouth and brought it to the princess's lips. Its pale, gray-blue eyes were veiled with a sheen of moisture, clearer and more dazzling than any gem.
The princess, who had always loved gems, lowered her head and kissed her eyes, speaking with a wild and domineering tone: "Mine."
What could the dragon do? What else could the dragon do?
She trembled for a moment, gripping the fur blanket beneath her tightly.
