Married in a Daze - Chapter 76
Chapter 76
After her lunch break, Qin Zhenzhen threw herself back into work. The reason this shoot was scheduled for three days was because there were several locations, requiring them to move continuously from one to the next. Meng Xin had sent Qin Zhenzhen the MV script long ago. The plot was very cliché: a story about childhood sweethearts who harbor secret affection for each other but ultimately part ways due to their respective dreams.
The first scene was in a church, a wedding setting.
Qin Zhenzhen was sitting on a stool, having her makeup retouched. Ji Lu, holding a hand warmer, walked over from not far away. After handing it to Zhenzhen, she couldn't help but smile. "Zhenzhen, this wedding dress is really beautiful."
This wasn't the first time she had seen Qin Zhenzhen in a wedding dress. Considering all those TV dramas, Zhenzhen had worn a wedding dress at least three or four times. But the dress before her now, whether in terms of style, material, or design, truly made one's eyes light up.
Unlike the all-white dresses she had worn before, this gown was a pale blue from the waist down, the color deepening towards the hem. The skirt was very long, trailing on the ground, with numerous diamonds embedded at the ends, sparkling brilliantly in the light.
Ji Lu had heard that this wedding dress was personally made by a master from Milan and had just been altered to Zhenzhen's measurements a few days ago.
Upon hearing the praise, Qin Zhenzhen initially just smiled with her head lowered. But when her gaze touched the diamonds at the hem, she suddenly thought of something and opened her lips. "Ji Lu, take a few pictures for me."
She stood up, her makeup flawless. The stylist stood to the side. Qin Zhenzhen handed her phone to Ji Lu, who blinked and took it, snapping a few shots of her.
On the screen, Qin Zhenzhen was clad in the wedding dress, her lovely smile charming. Sunlight filtered through the gaps, casting a halo upon her. She slightly raised her eyes to meet the camera, looking as beautiful as an elf.
Qin Zhenzhen was quite satisfied with the photo Ji Lu took. Without even editing it, she immediately sent it to Lu Ruyun.
—Is it pretty? [Photo].
Lu Ruyun was in a car. She had originally planned to go directly to City M, but He Shuangshuang called her, saying she had contacted the advertiser and wanted to go discuss things together.
After getting in the car, she realized just how impulsive her earlier thought had been. Zhenzhen was still working, and she had actually considered going to find her without any reservations.
It was truly too crazy.
So crazy it almost didn't seem like her.
Lu Ruyun forcefully suppressed the restlessness in her heart, barely managing to pull her thoughts back from City M. So when He Shuangshuang said they needed to go discuss business, she agreed without hesitation.
Her phone buzzed twice with an incoming message. She took out her phone to look, her expression turning unreadable.
Qin Zhenzhen: Is it pretty? [Photo].
It was actually a picture in a wedding dress.
The content of this MV was confidential, so Lu Ruyun didn't know what the storyline was. But simply seeing her photo in a wedding dress inexplicably made her heart tighten a little.
She remembered, the male lead for this MV was Jian Mu.
Seeing her staring at her phone, He Shuangshuang leaned over curiously. "What's wrong?"
Lu Ruyun tapped the screen a couple of times and put her phone away. "Nothing."
A few minutes later, Qin Zhenzhen received a message from Lu Ruyun: Pretty.
She smiled until her eyes crinkled, her heart filled with delight. When Jian Mu, surrounded by his entourage, entered the church, he saw her smiling gently at her phone, looking joyful. He glanced at her briefly before looking away. His assistant beside him whispered, "This dress really suits Miss Qin."
Jian Mu gave a slight nod. The assistant continued, "Ah Mu, Miss Qin's manager contacted me this morning. She wants to treat everyone to a meal after we wrap up. What do you think..."
"Decline it," Jian Mu said, glancing at Qin Zhenzhen who was looking down, adjusting her dress. "Say we're pressed for time."
The assistant hummed in acknowledgment. "Okay. Actually, I was thinking of turning it down too, but that day is Miss Qin's birthday, so..."
So he was a bit unsure. Having been by Jian Mu's side for so long, he knew what Jian Mu would do when he was interested in someone. But he couldn't figure out why it was Qin Zhenzhen.
After all, Qin Zhenzhen—was already married.
But then again, not understanding Jian Mu's thoughts was normal.
Hearing his assistant's words, Jian Mu furrowed his handsome brows slightly, a hint of hesitation in his starry eyes. "Birthday?"
The assistant lowered his head. "Yes. Do we need to prepare a gift in advance?"
Jian Mu lowered his gaze for a few minutes. "Regarding the dinner... don't decline it. And prepare a gift."
The assistant replied respectfully, "Okay."
After their brief conversation, Jian Mu went to change. When he came out, he was wearing a sharp suit, polished leather shoes, a faint smile on his handsome face, his bangs down, covering his distinct eyebrows.
The props team was almost ready. Qin Zhenzhen and Jian Mu stood in the middle of the chapel. Hearing the director's final confirmation and the call to start, they began.
This was Jian Mu's first time filming an MV. While he wasn't prone to stage fright or nervousness, he couldn't quite express many of the required actions and emotions, leading to many NGs. Qin Zhenzhen finally understood why three days were needed for just a few scenes.
After another makeup touch-up, Qin Zhenzhen heard Jian Mu sigh helplessly. She smiled. "Focus."
"Filming is actually like songwriting for you. It requires your wholehearted immersion."
Jian Mu glanced sideways at her, pondering her words that filming was like songwriting. His mind went blank for a few seconds before he nodded with a smile. Seeing both of them were in the right mood, the director decisively called, "Action!"
Under the lens, Qin Zhenzhen, clad in her wedding dress and holding a bouquet, stood at the very front. The church door suddenly swung open, a beam of light pouring in. Qin Zhenzhen turned to see the man walking closer and closer.
This was the secret crush of her youth, her earliest fantasy, the man who carried all her youthful memories. Her originally empty gaze gradually gained focus, her entire face breaking into a smile.
Jian Mu stepped forward, one step at a time, very slowly. The camera slowly pushed in, focusing on his face. His starry eyes held unconcealable affection. Seeing the person opposite him curve her lips into a slight smile, he couldn't help but let the corners of his mouth lift as well.
But in an instant, that expression underwent a subtle change. The affection in his eyes turned into bitterness.
The director stared at the monitor before him. Jian Mu's emotional shift was natural. He genuinely felt as if Jian Mu liked Qin Zhenzhen but couldn't have her—an emotion of unrequited longing—as if the several NG takes earlier had been an illusion.
He rubbed his eyes, feeling that Jian Mu had now become a self-taught master, in a godlike state!
"Are you satisfied?"
"Very satisfied."
Qin Zhenzhen's soft three words fell. The assistant director nudged the director, who hurriedly called out, "OK! Next scene!"
The stylist quickly stepped forward to prepare for their touch-ups, and the props team also started packing up for the next scene. Jian Mu walked up to Qin Zhenzhen and extended his hand. "Thank you."
Qin Zhenzhen was taken aback for a moment before reacting and shaking his hand. "You're welcome. We're friends, after all."
After saying that, she blinked playfully. "Of course, if you don't mind."
Jian Mu's grip on her hand tightened slightly before reluctantly letting go. Having just been handed another 'friend zone' card, he smiled. "Of course I don't mind."
Qin Zhenzhen nodded at him and followed the stylist to change. Jian Mu remained standing in place. His assistant jogged over to stand beside him. "Ah Mu, we should change clothes."
Jian Mu didn't move, his gaze still fixed in the direction Qin Zhenzhen had left. The air seemed to still carry her faint fragrance. The image of Qin Zhenzhen turning around earlier floated before his eyes.
The assistant whispered, "Ah Mu?"
Jian Mu snapped back to reality. "Hmm?"
Assistant: "Time to change."
Jian Mu followed him into the changing room.
Qin Zhenzhen continued filming until after five in the afternoon. Jian Mu's performance was sometimes exceptional, sometimes plagued by consecutive NGs. One scene took over an hour without passing. Watching the director scratch his head irritably, Qin Zhenzhen was genuinely worried he'd rub off what little hair he had left.
Fortunately, no matter what, they completely wrapped up by five o'clock. Qin Zhenzhen happily finished for the day, her first action being to call Lu Ruyun.
Lu Ruyun was driving. After finalizing things with the advertiser, He Shuangshuang had twisted her ankle slightly and couldn't drive. Lu Ruyun planned to take her to the hospital first. The two were discussing the advertisement when Lu Ruyun's phone rang.
They were at a traffic light, so it definitely wasn't convenient to answer. Lu Ruyun asked He Shuangshuang to answer for her.
He Shuangshuang picked it up and saw Qin Zhenzhen's name. She paused, glanced at Lu Ruyun, then answered and put it on speakerphone.
"Are you home?"
Qin Zhenzhen's tone held none of the shyness one might expect from someone who had just confirmed feelings. It was intimate and natural.
Lu Ruyun gave He Shuangshuang a look of mild reproach before lowering her head to answer. "I'm driving."
Qin Zhenzhen made a surprised sound. "Driving?"
Lu Ruyun explained, "I just went to discuss the advertisement shoot."
Qin Zhenzhen understood and then said, "I saw your Weibo."
Lu Ruyun subconsciously glanced at He Shuangshuang, who hurriedly turned to look out the window, though her ears were perked up.
"I know," Lu Ruyun replied softly. Not half an hour after she forwarded the Weibo post, Qin Zhenzhen had also forwarded it, commenting: I also think the weather is nice today.
These two seemingly nonsensical sentences had been sent to the trending list, with fans even calling it a 'divine conversation'.
Thinking of this, a bit of a smile appeared in Lu Ruyun's eyes. Qin Zhenzhen gave a light cough, her tone turning serious. "Teacher Lu, do you really not regret it?"
The speakerphone was still on, Qin Zhenzhen's words clearly reaching their ears. He Shuangshuang wore an expression full of gossip. Lu Ruyun's earlobes turned slightly red, and her palms grew sweaty on the steering wheel. "Zhenzhen."
"Let's talk when I get home."
Qin Zhenzhen clicked her tongue. "You're not thinking of going back on your word, are you?"
Lu Ruyun pursed her lips. "I'm driving."
"Okay, okay, I get it. I just called to tell you, Teacher Lu."
Lu Ruyun's heart beat a few times faster. "Hmm?"
Qin Zhenzhen's tone was filled with delight. "I miss you."
She hung up immediately after saying that. Lu Ruyun's expression remained normal, but a smile that was difficult to suppress shimmered in her eyes. She even lifted the corners of her mouth slightly. He Shuangshuang looked at the ended call, then at Lu Ruyun, and opened her lips to say, "Actually, I think Qin Zhenzhen is a bit cute."
Upon hearing her voice, Lu Ruyun immediately cleared her throat, straightened her posture, and the blush beneath her earlobes gradually receded, disappearing from sight. After driving for a while, she replied to He Shuangshuang's earlier topic. "That's just your illusion."
He Shuangshuang made a puzzled sound before realizing what Lu Ruyun meant. She pushed Lu Ruyun's shoulder. "An illusion? Do you mean you don't think she's cute?"
Lu Ruyun pondered for a few seconds before replying solemnly, "I think she's not just a bit cute. She's very cute."
He Shuangshuang: ...
Damn, you shouldn't be called Lu Ruyun. Change it to Lu Double Standard!
