Married in a Daze - Chapter 75
Chapter 75
"What did you say?" Qin Zhenzhen didn't react immediately upon hearing Lu Ruyun's words, her entire mind going blank. She had used the excuse of going to the bathroom to call Lu Ruyun.
The bathroom was empty, her surroundings quiet, so even though Lu Ruyun's voice was very soft, she caught it clearly.
She had said, Zhenzhen, please don't leave, okay?
Which kind of 'leave' did she mean?
Qin Zhenzhen held her breath, waiting for Lu Ruyun's answer.
Lu Ruyun froze for a few seconds after hearing her crisp voice ask 'what did you say', her eyes gradually regaining clarity. The fog clouding her mind just moments ago began to dissipate, becoming clear. Recalling her own stubborn, almost frantic actions from a few hours ago, she let out a deep sigh and spoke into the phone, "I'm sorry, I just woke up. I was muddled from sleep. What did I say?"
The redness at the corners of her eyes hadn't yet faded, her gaze clear, her face still pale. Hearing her question, Qin Zhenzhen pursed her lips and said, "You said, 'Zhenzhen, don't leave, okay?'"
Qin Zhenzhen enunciated each word clearly as she recited the sentence back to Lu Ruyun. Lu Ruyun's body stiffened for a few seconds before she gave a light laugh. "Then I must have been really muddled from sleep."
"Sorry for bothering you."
Hearing her relaxed, natural tone, Qin Zhenzhen didn't pursue the topic further. She just went along with it, saying, "So Teacher Lu was still sleeping. No wonder. I was wondering why you'd suddenly say something like that to me."
"Just got up?"
Listening to her tone that was trying to smooth over the awkwardness, Lu Ruyun secretly breathed a sigh of relief in her heart, her expression returning to its usual composure. She was trying hard to maintain the persona from just now. "Mn, just woke up. Haven't gotten out of bed yet."
Qin Zhenzhen let out an 'oh,' changing her posture on the toilet seat. "By the way, Teacher Lu, could I trouble you with something? I left in a hurry this morning and forgot to turn off the light in my room. Could you please turn it off for me?"
Upon hearing this, Lu Ruyun instinctively said, "Your light isn't on, I..."
Before she could finish, she realized Qin Zhenzhen's intention. She pressed her lips into a thin line, lowering her eyelashes. In her ear, Qin Zhenzhen's voice continued very naturally, "Is that so? How does Teacher Lu know that? Didn't you just wake up?"
Faced with such a question, Lu Ruyun just pursed her lips, her tone betraying neither joy nor anger. "I'm hanging up."
"Where are you?"
These three seemingly random words from Qin Zhenzhen made Lu Ruyun pause her action. She held her breath, hearing Qin Zhenzhen continue, "Your room? The living room? Upstairs..."
Seeing that she seemed about to guess every corner of the house, Lu Ruyun finally said, "On the sofa."
Qin Zhenzhen clenched her hand. "Just now—"
The words 'had an episode' simply wouldn't come out. In the cold winter weather, Qin Zhenzhen actually broke out in a fine sweat. This wasn't the first time she knew about Lu Ruyun having episodes; she had even witnessed it firsthand during the program recording. But never before had she felt so frustrated, so annoyed that she wasn't by her side.
Because right now, she needed her.
Lu Ruyyun quickly snapped out of the awkward atmosphere from moments ago, proactively changing the subject. "Where are you?"
Qin Zhenzhen's voice was muffled, tinged with apology. "Ruyun, I'm sorry."
Because of these words, Lu Ruyun's heart wavered slightly. Her chest felt as if a cat's claws were incessantly scratching, an itch that was unbearable, unbearable enough to make the rims of her eyes turn red again. The stubborn, obsessive thoughts she had just suppressed began clamoring wildly once more. Right now, she wanted to see her.
"Where are you?" The same question as before, but with a completely different tone, carrying a sense of urgency. Qin Zhenzhen glanced at the partitions around her and replied, "I'm in the bathroom."
Lu Ruyun: ...
Qin Zhenzhen pursed her lips. "The bathroom in M City."
News of Qin Zhenzhen and Jian Mu filming the outdoor scenes for their MV in M City had spread like the wind. After hanging up, Lu Ruyun saw the push notification on Weibo—airport photos.
In the bright terminal hall, Qin Zhenzhen wore a dress under a trench coat, paired with ten-centimeter high heels, making her legs appear even longer and her figure more graceful. Lu Ruyun originally didn't like going on Weibo, but seeing Qin Zhenzhen's name on it, she clicked on it almost as if possessed.
Qin Zhenzhen must have known there would be airport photos today, dressing up specially. Her lovely face, enhanced by makeup, showed not a single flaw. Simply standing there, she was a distinct landscape all her own.
Lu Ruyun's gaze locked onto the first few photos of Qin Zhenzhen, but darkened upon seeing the later couple photos.
She quickly scrolled down, seeing many of her fans leaving comments expressing their admiration.
—I saw Zhenzhen today! She's N times more beautiful in person than in photos! Just that one smile, and my soul left my body!
—Qin Zhenzhen is too pretty. I went to see Brother Jian today, but Qin Zhenzhen's beauty made me gush with excitement.
—Qin Zhenzhen truly has era-defining beauty. And she's so considerate. I saw a fan trip over a bodyguard, and she proactively helped them up.
—Me, me, me, me, me! I was that fan! I've decided not to wash my hand for six months! Zhenzhen touched me, I'm so excited wuwuwuwu.
Lu Ruyun never considered herself a bored person, but right now, she truly was bored enough to scroll through the comments. She greedily looked at Qin Zhenzhen's airport photos, at her every smile and frown, her every movement, her hand gripping the phone tightly.
After thinking for a while, she reposted this Weibo, adding the words: The weather is very good today.
Returning to the private room, Qin Zhenzhen saw Jian Mu still sitting upright at the table. Several staff members were talking beside him. Jian Mu nodded. "Good. Have them come to my room in half an hour."
"Yes, Mr. Jian."
Seeing Qin Zhenzhen enter, Jian Mu waved his hand, signaling the others to leave. Qin Zhenzhen looked around. Both of them had finished eating. She stood up politely and said, "You must be busy. How about we head back first?"
Jian Mu lifted his starry eyes, nodding. "Okay."
Their hotel was nearby. Qin Zhenzhen originally thought they'd drive back, but didn't expect Jian Mu to suddenly ask her at the entrance if she'd like to walk. Qin Zhenzhen was slightly taken aback before giving a light laugh. "Of course."
The two walked side by side on the street. Jian Mu stopped the group of bodyguards following behind. Seeing this, Qin Zhenzhen couldn't help but feel like laughing. Sometimes, after being high above for so long, wanting to be an ordinary person again was truly difficult.
The bodyguards obviously didn't want Jian Mu wandering around alone. After some discussion, it was decided a few would protect him discreetly while the others went ahead to the hotel.
After settling the matter, Jian Mu stood before Qin Zhenzhen, somewhat helplessly saying, "Sorry. Does this make you uncomfortable?"
Qin Zhenzhen shook her head. "No."
After all, she was also a public figure. When traveling far, bodyguards were still a necessity.
The afternoon sun in winter was the warmest. Although the cold wind still carried a chill, being bathed in the warm sunlight took away much of the cold. Qin Zhenzhen still wore a dress under her trench coat, stepping in ten-centimeter high heels. From her calves to her ankles, her skin was bare. Blown by the wind, goosebumps were about to rise.
She had been on the verge of catching a cold recently, and now, blown by the wind again, she couldn't help but sneeze several times. She pulled her collar tighter, saying somewhat apologetically, "Sorry. My body isn't as strong as I imagined."
Jian Mu was amused by her humorous tone. Seeing she was cold, he decisively took off his overcoat and draped it over her shoulders. He was wearing an MJ custom-made overcoat, lined with a layer of fleece. When he draped it over her, it still carried some warmth from his body, feeling very cozy.
Qin Zhenzhen stared fixedly at his action. Going out, both of them inevitably wore sunglasses and hats, so she couldn't see Jian Mu's expression clearly, only vaguely guessing a little.
Without the overcoat, Jian Mu wore a shirt and suit pants underneath. The well-fitting design made his figure appear even more slender and upright. Seeing Qin Zhenzhen frozen in place, he smiled. "Keep it on. I'm the one who asked you to walk. If you freeze, we won't be able to shoot the MV."
Hearing this, Qin Zhenzhen lowered her gaze, tightening the overcoat around her. Jian Mu was nearly twenty centimeters taller than her, and this was a long coat, so it reached down to her calves. Warmth spread from the coat. It also carried a faint scent, different from Lu Ruyun's—a light, somewhat masculine fragrance.
Seeing she had put it on, Jian Mu lifted the corners of his lips. "Still cold?"
Qin Zhenzhen shook her head. "Much better. Thank you."
Jian Mu tilted his head, looking at her entire person shrunk inside the overcoat, a small bundle. A smile surfaced in his eyes. "You're welcome."
The two walked side by side. The hotel wasn't far, about a ten-minute walk. They didn't walk fast, chatting as they went. Jian Mu was a native of M City, naturally familiar with the place. He introduced many scenic spots to her, saying she could come visit when she had time in the future. Qin Zhenzhen naturally nodded politely with a light smile.
When they reached the hotel entrance, the bodyguards quickly came forward. Qin Zhenzhen followed Jian Mu to the top floor. Their rooms were next to each other. Before entering her room, Qin Zhenzhen took off the overcoat and returned it to Jian Mu.
After going upstairs, they naturally removed their sunglasses and masks. Now, Jian Mu stood not far from her, his handsome features appearing even more dashing and distinguished, his noble aura imposing.
Jian Mu saw the overcoat she offered and very cooperatively took it. He lowered his gaze, thinking for a few seconds before stepping in front of Qin Zhenzhen again, helping her put the trench coat back on. "Keep it. I think this trench coat suits you very well."
Hearing his words, Qin Zhenzhen let out a light laugh. Jian Mu, puzzled, narrowed his starry eyes. "What is it?"
"Nothing." Qin Zhenzhen restrained her laugh, but a smile still lingered on her face. "I just suddenly remembered someone who said something similar."
Jian Mu raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Qin Zhenzhen smiled, pursing her lips. "My wife."
After saying this, she looked up at Jian Mu, took off the trench coat, and handed it to him. Jian Mu reached out to take it, nodding with a smile. "Good afternoon."
After saying this, he entered his room. Qin Zhenzhen, feeling lighthearted, stood in place. She let out a long breath. She had really been worried that refusing Jian Mu would make him lose his temper. Fortunately, his gentlemanly refinement wasn't just superficial.
Qin Zhenzhen also turned and entered her own room. Ji Lu was tidying up the luggage, hanging her clothes in the closet. Seeing her actions, Qin Zhenzhen asked, "Where's your room?"
Ji Lu paused her movements, turning to look at Qin Zhenzhen. "Downstairs."
Assistants generally didn't stay on the same floor as them.
Qin Zhenzhen grabbed her busy hand. "Stop tidying. Move all my luggage to your room."
Ji Lu was dumbfounded. "Why?"
Qin Zhenzhen walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the scenery below, listening to the howling cold wind outside the window. "I'm afraid of heights."
Ji Lu: ...
She suspected Qin Zhenzhen had been blown silly by the cold wind earlier. Otherwise, how could someone who lived on the highest floor in City A say she was afraid of heights???
Although skeptical, she didn't dare say anything, just hurriedly stuffed the clothes she had just tidied back into the suitcase. Turning her head, she saw Qin Zhenzhen hugging her phone, smiling with an utterly... blissful look. Curious, she leaned over and asked, "Zhenzhen, what are you laughing at?"
Qin Zhenzhen turned her phone screen towards her. Ji Lu saw the screen showed Lu Ruyun's Weibo. She had reposted a Weibo with a comment: The weather is very good today.
The weather is very good today?
Ji Lu glanced sideways out the window at the wailing cold wind, pursing her lips helplessly. Qin Zhenzhen didn't explain further, just lowered her head to scroll through Weibo, seeing everyone under her Weibo guessing what Lu Ruyun meant.
—Cloud Fairy, Cloud Fairy, where did you go? Where is the weather good? It's definitely not City A, anyway.
—It's minus 20 degrees Celsius here, the weather is very good, yeah, no problem.
—I still don't understand what this 'weather is very good' means. Especially since it's reposting Qin Zhenzhen's airport photos??
Qin Zhenzhen smiled, pursing her lips. Everyone else didn't know, but she did.
The Weibo she posted on her wedding day was: The weather is very good today, suitable for doing something crazy.
When she hung up the phone today, she asked Lu Ruyun, did she dare to be crazy one more time.
Lu Ruyun was using this Weibo to tell her.
She dared.
