DDT - Chapter 106

Chapter 106: Tycoon's Daughter (14)

Chi Junluo had indeed left Huaping City for the past few days. An important underground base of the organization was at risk of being discovered. The Secret Party had already destroyed the old base themselves, and its members had dispersed. Only the telegraph operator, burdened with too much classified information and equipment, was forced to hide in the home of a double agent.

This agent had publicly defected to the Japanese army, becoming a traitor reviled by every citizen of the Dragon Kingdom, a lapdog for the invaders. However, because he had done a great deal to help the Japanese, he had gradually earned the trust of a Japanese general, becoming something of a favorite in recent years. His reputation as a villain who committed heinous acts for the Japanese was known throughout the Dragon Kingdom.

The telegraph operator from the destroyed Secret Party base had made a bold decision, believing that the most dangerous place was also the safest. After secretly contacting the agent, he had temporarily hidden in the agent's basement with his help.

Only in the dead of night did the telegraph operator find a chance to send a message to the Secret Party headquarters in Huaping City and await rescue.

This rescue mission was of critical importance, and the choice of personnel was crucial. The rescue team could not be large, as they would be operating in Japanese territory. The city was over two hundred kilometers from Huaping City.

The members assigned to this mission had to know how to drive and possess first-class stealth skills. After careful screening, the organization finally selected Chi Junluo as the primary operative for the mission.

Upon receiving the assignment, Chi Junluo chose two other members with excellent marksmanship to accompany her.

Though they were acting together, the work of infiltrating deep behind enemy lines was left to Chi Junluo alone. The other two comrades were only responsible for providing backup and managing the getaway.

The operation took place at night. Someone in the Japanese army already suspected the agent of harboring a wanted criminal. Just moments before the Japanese investigation unit arrived, Chi Junluo secretly channeled the power of the Heavenly Dao. With strength several times that of a normal person, she and the telegraph operator carried away most of the documents and all the equipment. The telegraph operator had already sorted through and burned any non-essential materials, disposing of the ashes in the trash.

To be honest, when the agent saw Chi Junluo sneak in alone, he nearly lost his mind. He had thought that, given the gravity of the situation, the organization would at least send a small squad for cover. A few more people would have made moving the equipment and documents much easier.

Chi Junluo looked like an ordinary woman. Even with special training, it was doubtful she could move so much equipment! Although she appeared cold and composed, this was a task that required brute strength…

The agent looked at the telegraph operator, wondering if the message had been miscommunicated, leading headquarters to make such a flawed decision.

The telegraph operator was just as confused. He had clearly emphasized that the items were heavy and important…

Just as the two men were beginning to feel hopeless, they watched Chi Junluo tie a large pile of equipment together with ropes, hoist it effortlessly onto her back, and leave the basement at a brisk pace. They were too stunned to react. The telegraph operator had no time for curiosity; he slung the pre-packaged documents over his shoulder and followed Chi Junluo into the darkness. Less than fifteen minutes later, the Japanese investigation unit brutally kicked down the agent's door. Two squads of Japanese soldiers stormed the house and turned it upside down.

The agent sat elegantly on his sofa, sipping tea. He even personally poured a cup for the Japanese squad leader, inviting him to savor it.

About forty minutes later, all the searching soldiers reassembled in the living room. The squad leader's face was grim. His superior had insisted they would find the hidden Dragon Kingdom telegraph operator here. How could it be that after tearing this traitor's house apart, they had found nothing?

The squad leader stood up, his face dark, preparing to return and report (and get chewed out).

He had just taken one step out the door when he heard the loud crash of a teacup being slammed onto the marble coffee table behind him. The squad leader flinched. He spun around angrily, about to shout, but was cowed by the agent's ferocious glare.

The agent leaned back casually on the sofa, a gun in his right hand pointed directly at the squad leader. Seeing the situation turn, the other Japanese soldiers immediately raised their guns and aimed them at the agent.

"You're one of Major General Matsuki's men, aren't you?" The agent wasn't surprised by the search. Matsuki had always been at odds with him, even telling the general to his face that he didn't believe the agent's surrender was genuine.

Setting aside national enmity, the agent had to admit that Major General Matsuki's intuition and sensitivity were excellent. Unfortunately, he was too reckless and had repeatedly fallen into the agent's traps due to his impulsiveness, losing a fair amount of face. After a while, it was like the boy who cried wolf; the general no longer listened to Matsuki, even feeling that Matsuki was being obtuse and questioning his judgment as a Japanese general.

Matsuki was the only one in the Japanese army who had seen through the agent's disguise, but his schemes were not clever enough, and he had inadvertently created many opportunities for the agent.

The agent had long anticipated this search, which was why he had done his best to delay Matsuki's request, preventing the search warrant from being approved. Today, Matsuki could wait no longer and decided to act first and report later. If his investigation unit could find the Dragon Kingdom fugitive in the agent's house, then even without a warrant, even if Major General Matsuki had defied the general's orders, his success would more than make up for his transgression.

And so, the two search squads had nearly demolished the agent's home.

"I'm very curious. General Kuro has not approved any search warrant. Major General Matsuki's actions are a violation of military orders, are they not?"

The squad leader's eyes widened in anger. Hearing the agent's words, beads of sweat dripped down his forehead.

"No one else was disturbed by today's events. As someone who advises General Kuro, I would personally prefer not to see the Major General and the General fall out over me. But look at this mess tonight. Major General Matsuki is slapping the General in the face! If the General were to find out about this, who knows what he would think."

The squad leader was scared now. The bravado he'd had when kicking down the door minutes ago was gone. His legs felt weak. He waved his hand, ordering his men to lower their guns. Gritting his teeth, he adopted a humbler tone. "Mr. Fujita, we were wrong to suspect you. I hope you won't mention this. You wouldn't want General Kuro to be angry either, would you?"

The agent holstered his gun. He glanced up slightly, picked up his teacup again, and took a sip of the now-cool tea. "Don't be so tense. I'm not an unreasonable man. It's just that your men have made such a mess of my home. Shouldn't they clean it up and replace everything that was broken?"

A vein throbbed on the squad leader's forehead, but he couldn't show his anger. He had no choice but to order the two investigation squads back into the house to clean up the shattered porcelain vases and other debris on the floor. They even had to carry out the bed upstairs, which had been broken into several pieces.

After everything was cleaned up, the squad leader couldn't wait to leave.

The agent, whose name was Fujita, calmly scanned the now noticeably emptier house and said casually, "It's clean now, but I wonder what I'll tell the General tomorrow afternoon when he comes for dinner and sees my home in such a sorry state."

"Rest assured, Mr. Fujita! We will have your home redecorated by noon tomorrow! We'll take our leave now, no need to see us out!"

The squad leader, fuming, led his subordinates away in a hasty retreat, their backs looking utterly defeated.

He was berated by Major General Matsuki all night. As unwilling as he was, Major General Matsuki didn't dare let the General find out about the incident. He had to pay a hefty price to redecorate Fujita's home. That evening, when General Kuro came to dinner at the agent Fujita's house, he noticed the new decor. Upon hearing that Major General Matsuki had arranged it, the General was very pleased. He knew Matsuki and Fujita had never gotten along, and any sign of them reconciling was welcome news to a leader.

By then, Chi Junluo and the telegraph operator had already traveled a great distance with the mission team.

Matsuki, of course, knew they had escaped and had sent troops in pursuit. Due to the war, many main roads were either destroyed or guarded by the Japanese army. Taking the long way around, Chi Junluo's group was nearly caught several times. There were brief exchanges of fire, and during one such encounter while covering for the team, Chi Junluo was hit in the left arm by shrapnel. Finally, not far from Huaping City, the Japanese soldiers, seeing their targets about to escape, threw several grenades. Although Chi Junluo used the power of the Heavenly Dao to help the car evade the explosions, she was still in the back and her back was struck by shrapnel.

After returning to Huaping City, Chi Junluo had her wounds treated simply and then went to the school to wait for Yi Shuhan.

With the heroine in her arms, Chi Junluo gently patted her back, comforting the frightened Yi Shuhan. She could have easily avoided injury, but in a time of war, it was fashionable to return from a mission with a few wounds. She didn't know how the collection of the Heavenly Dao's power was progressing in this world, but the emotional bond with the heroine definitely needed to be deepened. Disappearing for a few days, returning injured, and then forcing herself to see the most important person in her life—it was a very moving scenario!

Being held by the heroine, feeling her pained sobs, Chi Junluo nuzzled her shoulder. The method was a bit cruel, but the effect was undeniably good.

Yes, the heroine's embrace was warm and reassuring.

With Chi Junluo injured, Yi Shuhan was no longer in the mood to drag her to the training grounds.

She took Chi Junluo by her right arm and led her back to the Yi family home. After greeting her mother, the two went to Yi Shuhan's room.

After locking the door from the inside, Yi Shuhan pushed Chi Junluo down to sit on the bed.

"Comrade Ah Yan, now please remove your dirty clothes and the bandages. I'll check on your wounds."

Chi Junluo scratched her head, feeling a sense of déjà vu.

"Can I just go to the bathroom to take them off?" Chi Junluo tried to negotiate.

"Right here. What's there to be shy about? We're both girls," Yi Shuhan said forcefully. Subconsciously, she hated seeing this girl injured; it made her feel terrible.

Seeing that she couldn't win, Chi Junluo had no choice but to comply and began to undress.
