BSS - Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Xu Wei closed her eyes and hummed, pressing her face against Deng Chuan's neck.

Her breathing was light and shallow; Deng Chuan knew she wasn't asleep. The warm puff of her breath against the side of her neck brought a slight tickle, like a drooping flower branch in spring brushing against a shoulder. "Xu Wei." Deng Chuan tightened her arms and called her name again, her voice tinged with longing. Xu Wei's slumber was delayed once more. She gently bumped Deng Chuan's chin, a small, annoyed warning.

Deng Chuan let out a low laugh. Xu Wei's forehead was pressed against her jaw, the sensation of their skin touching more distinct than the warmth under the thin blanket. Deng Chuan lowered her head to find her lips, and Xu Wei cooperatively tilted her head up. Finally, a long, gentle, deep kiss arrived as if by appointment.

The Little Friend, having gotten a taste of sweetness, wanted to kiss endlessly, even tentatively pulling her into a tighter embrace. Xu Wei broke away from her lips and tongue, pulling back and lowering her voice. "Alright, go to sleep. It's almost dawn."

Deng Chuan didn't say anything. She just moved closer, cupping Xu Wei's waist and pulling her nearer until they were pressed tightly together. Xu Wei let her, cooperatively stroking the back of the Little Friend's fluffy head and soothingly saying, "Good girl..."

She seemed truly exhausted. Her voice gradually faded, dissipating into the darkness.

This night felt especially long. Deng Chuan held Xu Wei, feeling her in her arms. Listening to Xu Wei's soft breathing, she felt the night was long enough to make this moment last forever, and that she had found her anchor.

She pressed close to Xu Wei's ear, intermittently kissing her cool earlobe. Her breath, so close, made Xu Wei flinch and tremble involuntarily. Deng Chuan found it amusing and blew another puff of air on the small earlobe, earning a light slap on her waist from Xu Wei.

The Little Friend never learned her lesson. She lowered her head to kiss the dazzlingly white stretch of neck below the earlobe. In the darkness, Deng Chuan used her lips and tongue to feel its contour, then gradually crossed the line, brushing against Xu Wei's prominent collarbone and exploring downward.

Her antics woke Xu Wei up completely.

She raised her head and met Deng Chuan's eyes in the dark. "Still not sleeping, are we?"

Deng Chuan feigned weakness, nuzzling against her lips. "You sleep. I'll hold you while I sleep."

The next second, Xu Wei bit her lower lip.

Xu Wei showed no mercy, biting hard enough to make Deng Chuan hiss and pull back. But Xu Wei followed, and the touch of her teeth made the kiss even more passionate and lingering. Deng Chuan tightened her hand on Xu Wei's waist, holding her forcefully.

The thin blanket rustled, accompanied by the sound of their breathing.

In the darkness, they could only see the faint outlines of each other's faces. Xu Wei was lying on top of Deng Chuan, pinching her ear. "Can we sleep now?"

Xu Wei's weight wasn't heavy for Deng Chuan. Through their clothes, Deng Chuan caressed her smooth back. Her shoulder blades were thin, her frame well-proportioned. Then came the scapulae, like a butterfly's wings poised for flight. Deng Chuan used her fingers as eyes, tracing their serene beauty as they bloomed and wound their way down, following the spine to the narrowest part of her waist.

Xu Wei, from her position above, rested her forehead against the Little Friend's.

In the darkness, nothing happened. Deng Chuan withdrew her hand, cupped Xu Wei's face, and stroked her lips in a clear gesture of coquetry.

Xu Wei kissed the hand that was near her lips but took no further action, simply finding a comfortable position on top of her to sleep.

The Little Friend's hands were still fidgeting at her waist. Xu Wei flinched from the ticklish sensation and spoke again. "Don't move. Go to sleep." As if her words weren't threatening enough, she bit Deng Chuan's neck again.

The effect was remarkable. Deng Chuan obediently held her, supporting her weight, feeling Xu Wei truly and tangibly settled in her arms. She let out a soft sigh. The vibration in her chest was so distinct; perhaps Xu Wei could feel it too. Deng Chuan wasn't sure. She only knew that Xu Wei had bitten her neck yet again.

The room finally fell silent again. Once their nerves relaxed, sleepiness washed over them like a tide. They both drifted off without realizing it. Zhou Liu, lying at the foot of the bed, also had his eyes closed, his ears twitching occasionally at the hum of the air conditioner.

The night was deep.

Having had Xu Wei sleep on top of her all night, Deng Chuan didn't feel uncomfortable at all. She had slept very well. When she woke up the next day, she was alone in bed. Seeing her hand emerge from under the covers, Zhou Liu pounced on it, pinning it down and licking it ingratiatingly.

The sting from the barbs on his tongue sobered Deng Chuan up a bit. She pulled her hand back, grabbed Zhou Liu as he tried to burrow into the blankets, and wiped the saliva he'd licked onto her hand back on his fur. "Good morning, Zhou Liu."

Zhou Liu deigned to speak, letting out a long meow as he settled into Deng Chuan's arms.

Deng Chuan held up his front paws and buried her face in his fluffy chest fur, inhaling and exhaling deeply.

The person and the cat played for a while before Zhou Liu struggled free from her grasp and burrowed deep into the blankets.

The little cat squirmed around under the covers. Deng Chuan pushed herself up, finally remembering to wonder where Xu Wei was. She got out of bed and walked out of the room.

Xu Wei was sitting on the living room sofa, looking at a tablet. Hearing Deng Chuan come out, she smiled gently at her. "You're awake? There's congee in the pot."

Having slept so soundly, Deng Chuan was still not fully awake. She sat down next to Xu Wei and leaned against her bonelessly. "Did you make it?"

"The rice cooker made it," Xu Wei said, her eyes still on the tablet.

Deng Chuan peeked at the content on her tablet, then looked to the side and smiled. "Why aren't you paying attention to your meeting?"

Xu Wei's phone was in a teachers' meeting, but she was reading a paper on her tablet.

Xu Wei smiled too, not answering her question, and urged her to go wash up.

"Okay," Deng Chuan said. "Just look at me once, and I'll go."

She was being coquettish again, sidling up to Xu Wei. Xu Wei turned her head, studied her seriously for a good while, and then gave a very meaningful smile. "There? Now go."

Deng Chuan quickly pecked her on the cheek.

While brushing her teeth, Deng Chuan finally understood the meaning behind Xu Wei's smile. Her neck was covered in marks from where Xu Wei had bitten her. Before falling asleep in the latter half of the night, she had restlessly pestered Xu Wei for a while and had been bitten quite a few times.

The marks ran from her neck down to her collarbone, conspicuous enough to be seen at a glance.

When Deng Chuan came out after washing up, Xu Wei had already ladled out congee for her, peeled an egg, and was sitting at the dining table waiting.

Deng Chuan sat across from her, tilting her chin up to show off the marks on her neck. "Teacher Xu, you're so fierce."

She felt Xu Wei's gaze sweep down her neck.

Deng Chuan finished all the congee and the egg. When Xu Wei was about to clear the dishes to wash them, she stopped her. "Let me."

Xu Wei met her serious eyes, paused for a moment, then smiled. "Okay. You do it."

She sat back down at the table and watched Deng Chuan's back as she washed the dishes.

Warm water flowed over her fingertips. Outside the window, the sunlight was bright. The dishes clinked crisply. Just as Deng Chuan was about to comment to Xu Wei on the beautiful weather, she heard her walk up beside her and say in a supervisory tone, "Be careful. Don't break my bowls."

Deng Chuan quickly rinsed the bowl clean and held it up for her to inspect. "Is it clean?"

Xu Wei gazed at her, the smile in her eyes as bright as the sunlight outside.

"It's clean," she said, wrapping her arms around Deng Chuan's neck and leaning in close. "Your reward is a kiss."

Deng Chuan kept one arm around her waist while carefully placing the bowl and chopsticks back on the rack with the other. Only then did she lower her head to find her lips, but Xu Wei dodged. "I didn't say you could kiss my lips."

Deng Chuan playfully moved toward her, just like she had been playing with Zhou Liu, heedlessly closing in on Xu Wei's opening and closing lips until Xu Wei's next words were swallowed between her own lips and teeth.

Only after taking advantage of the situation did she apologize. "I broke the rules. How will the teacher punish me?"

Xu Wei huffed, keeping her voice very low. "I'll punish you by making you wash the dishes for eight days."

Xu Wei is quite precise, Deng Chuan thought. She only counted the eight days they'd be together, no more, no less. But the precision and clarity of "eight days" made her feel guilty and sad. She was still too young, unable to master the art of living in the moment. "Let me do it from now on."

Xu Wei said, "So proactive?"

She nodded emphatically.

The two were affectionate for a while longer before sitting on the sofa. Xu Wei wasn't finished with her work, so Deng Chuan put on a very quiet movie to keep her company.

The movie was a very old black-and-white film. Deng Chuan watched the girl on screen hide in a small building, peeking through the window shutters at the boy next door teasing a parrot. The accompaniment was a piece of folk music, like pearls dropping onto a jade plate, that flowed along with the girl's singing like a gurgling stream.

Xu Wei's fingers slid across the screen, highlighting in red, circling problematic data with a marker, and jotting down simple ideas. Her fingers were fair and slender with well-defined knuckles, her nails trimmed immaculately clean. Deng Chuan happened to glance over and suddenly remembered she had ordered rings.

She snatched up her phone to check the delivery status so eagerly that it made Xu Wei glance at her.

The order on the official website showed that a local courier was out for delivery. Deng Chuan suddenly felt nervous for some reason. She glanced nervously at Xu Wei, her gaze meeting hers directly.

A hint of suspicion showed in Xu Wei's eyes.

Deng Chuan pretended not to see it, forcing herself to calmly turn back to the movie.

Xu Wei didn't pay it any mind and lowered her head to continue her work.

Time ticked by, second by second. The music in the movie was no longer tender and sweet; the cruel historical setting of the plot finally bared its fangs. Deng Chuan was both anxious about the plot and nervously checking her phone for incoming calls.

As the movie reached its final, suspenseful moment, Deng Chuan's phone finally rang. It was an unknown number with a "courier" tag underneath.

Deng Chuan snatched up her phone, said nonchalantly to Xu Wei, "I'm going to take this call," and headed for the balcony.

On the phone, the courier confirmed her order and asked if she was home. He was at the community gate and needed her to authorize his entry with the security guard.

Deng Chuan finished the call in a few words, trying to reveal as little information as possible. After letting the courier into the community, she thanked him and hung up.

She hesitated outside for a while, originally planning to wait for the courier to come to the door so she could get the rings before he rang the doorbell. But after waiting for some time, he still hadn't arrived. Afraid of giving herself away by waiting too long, she had no choice but to go back into the living room and sit down next to Xu Wei again.

Her poorly concealed restlessness was completely obvious to Xu Wei. But Xu Wei didn't say anything. She casually worked on her tablet while covertly observing the Little Friend, who was so nervous she was biting her lip.

A moment later, a clear ringing of the doorbell broke the silence in the room.
