ISBH - Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Ex-girlfriend
"Professor Han? Professor Han..."
Assistant Shang Yan called out several times before Han Tian came back to herself.
Han Tian pressed her lips together, put away her mobile phone and glanced at Shang Yan. "What is it?"
"You look terrible..." Shang Yan looked at Han Tian with concern. "You haven't rested for the past two days. Even a body of iron couldn't take it. If you're feeling unwell, go back and rest first. I'll watch over the experiment..."
Even as he asked, Shang Yan held out no hope. Han Tian was a workaholic who usually worked without sleep or rest, and now was the critical moment when results were about to come through.
Just as Shang Yan expected, Han Tian instinctively wanted to refuse, but thinking of a certain message she had just received on her mobile phone, she forced herself to change her words. "All right. I'll go back first and come back tonight."
Han Tian frowned as she changed out of her white lab coat, picked up her car keys and left the Research Institute.
Once out of her white lab coat, Han Tian shed her usual sharp efficiency. She let down her tied up long hair, and her face, no bigger than a palm, looked even smaller. After a moment of thought, as if driven by some inexplicable impulse, she took a lip balm from her bag and applied it before heading for the underground parking garage.
For Han Tian, putting on lip balm was the equivalent of having put on full makeup.
As Huaguo's youngest doctoral supervisor in physics, one of the nation's top hundred outstanding scholars, Professor Han Tian, hailed as the "Star of Huaguo Physics", kept a bare face and rarely wore makeup in order to maintain her authority in front of students many of whom were older than she was. Her clothes stayed within black, gray and white, and her closet held only shirts, T-shirts and jeans, with hardly a dress to be seen...
Near the entrance to the underground parking garage, a woman leaned against the corner playing with her mobile phone, wearing a loose coat that hid her figure, sunglasses and a mask.
The woman's hands were strikingly beautiful, her ten fingers slender and long, her fingertips painted with bright red nail polish. As she tapped the screen, they left a flurry of disordered red, just like Han Tian's heartbeat, which was gradually losing its rhythm.
Han Tian paused in her steps, frowned, lowered her eyes and stopped in front of the woman.
"Perfect!" That was the level clear sound from Happy Match.
Seeing Han Tian arrive, the woman put down her mobile phone and instinctively leaned in close. She carried a perfume scent familiar to Han Tian, like a drop of dew on a petal in the early morning, a faint mist, hazy and diffuse.
The woman familiarly linked her arm through Han Tian's, her voice sounding delighted. "Sister! I was just about to call you, but I was afraid of disturbing you..."
"We really are in tune with each other!"
...
Han Tian met the pair of eyes above the woman's mask. The woman's eyes were exceptionally beautiful, naturally romantic in a peach blossom shape. She seemed to be wearing colored contacts, and her pupils did not look purely black but carried a hazy, ambiguous brown.
At this moment those eyes stared at her without restraint, brimming with direct and intense affection.
Han Tian lowered her eyes and pressed her lips together even harder.
The car was parked not far away.
Han Tian opened the car door and got into the driver's seat, and the woman familiarly slipped into the passenger seat. After the door closed, the woman took off her mask and let out a long breath, leaning over against Han Tian's shoulder, half coquettish and half complaining. "That nearly suffocated me..."
Beneath the mask was a face of peerless radiance.
This face was the darling of the entertainment industry, the most dazzling star, whose every move could spark heated discussion in the media.
Even though she had seen it countless times, as a straightforward lover of beautiful faces, Han Tian still could not help feeling stunned at the sight of it.
"Stop fidgeting. Put on your seat belt. I'll take you back!" Han Tian did not dare look again. She tried hard to gather her reason and stared at the road ahead, only to realize once the words were out that her voice was inexplicably hoarse.
"Sister, I missed you so much." The woman seemed not to hear Han Tian's words. She moved closer to Han Tian, cupped Han Tian's cheeks in her hands and stared hard into Han Tian's eyes, which refused to look at her. "Sister, have you missed me these past few days?"
Han Tian would naturally never answer that question. Even though she had thought of that night almost every day, she understood better than anyone that it had only been a mistake.
"Sister is as heartless as ever!" Seeing Han Tian like this, the woman sighed softly, hiding the dark and obsessive emotion in her eyes, and kissed Han Tian on the cheek. "But I still like Sister!"
"Mo Sang! Stop fooling around!" Heat spread from the patch of skin Mo Sang had kissed, burning straight into her brain. Han Tian gripped the steering wheel and could not help turning to glance at the woman beside her. "I'm not..."
Before she could finish the word "her", her lips were caught in a kiss.
Unlike Mo Sang's soft and alluring appearance, her kiss was fiercely aggressive, like a beast that had lurked long in the darkness of a forest and rushed straight at its prey at the sight of it to sink its teeth into its throat...
Her thoughts gradually blurred, and Han Tian saw Mo Sang's eyes gazing at her. Those eyes seemed to hold a glimmer of tears and also the joy of a long cherished wish fulfilled...
!
Attacked by such beauty at close range, Han Tian completely surrendered. She could not bear to make those eyes sad.
Han Tian closed her eyes in resignation.
Because she had closed her eyes, Han Tian did not see how, behind the joy in Mo Sang's eyes as she gazed at her, there slowly seeped through an infatuation as thick as condensed night, impossible to dissolve.
Han Tian did not know how things had suddenly come to this point.
Few people knew that Han Tian, the conscientious and meticulous leading figure in the scientific world, was a straightforward lover of beautiful faces. Five years ago, when Han Tian returned to the country, the screens at the airport were playing a promotional video for a girl group that had just made its debut. In it, the eighteen year old Mo Sang possessed a bewitching yet cool beauty that struck Han Tian straight in the heart, and from then on Han Tian became Mo Sang's visual fan and mom fan.
Mo Sang was the finest idol. Not only was she blessed with a face beautiful beyond compare, she could sing and compose, and the songs she wrote were exceptionally pleasing. Eight or nine out of every ten songs echoing through the streets today were hers. Moreover, her acting was superb, and at the start of the year she had just taken home a highly prestigious Best Actress award...
What reassured fans most was that Mo Sang was unlike other popular artists whose press releases and scandals flew everywhere. She kept a low profile and spent her days either filming or buried in writing her album. The most professional paparazzi from a certain studio followed her for half a year and finally announced on Weibo that they were giving up. In private, Mo Sang truly lived like a retired old cadre who never went shopping or attended dinners, spending all day writing songs and painting...
It was hard to imagine that this dazzling Mo Sang was not yet 24 and had made her debut only five years ago.
As a mom fan, Han Tian felt pure delight at having such a Cub. Mo Sang was the most perfect idol, and fans could accompany her forever along the flower path!
Yet now this perfect idol had gained a flaw. She had slept with a fan!
And Han Tian was the one who had dragged her idol down from the altar and would be beaten to death by countless fans. She was the fan who had been slept with.
...
Five days ago, Han Tian had happily gone to Mo Sang's concert as usual, wearing a mask and a cap. Because of that outfit, a misunderstanding arose and she was mistaken for some unruly young star and pulled backstage. After she took off her mask and cleared up the confusion, she had meant to return to her seat, but Mo Sang's Manager Li Ai suddenly rushed over and apologetically gave her a VIP ticket as compensation.
Whether it was the better view from the VIP seats or some other reason, Han Tian felt that Mo Sang's performance that night was more brilliant than ever. It was also the first time Han Tian realized that Mo Sang's cool, smoky voice could sing with such moving emotion...
Even later, after finishing her performance, Mo Sang actually returned to the stage and said she would draw a grand prize and give away a mystery gift...
The screams from the fans present nearly lifted the roof!
Han Tian never expected the prize to fall on her!
As Mo Sang's visual fan and mom fan, Han Tian had dreamed of a chance to get this close to Mo Sang! Han Tian remembered how happy she had been at the time. Even when her research had made great progress some time before, she had not felt as happy as she did then.
The mystery gift would not be presented on the spot, so Han Tian followed Li Ai backstage.
Later Li Ai brought in a glass of drink for her. Han Tian was thirsty after watching the concert, so she took the drink and gulped it down.
Han Tian did not notice that it was a low alcohol drink. That amount of alcohol meant nothing to others, yet Han Tian was someone who could not touch a single drop...
What followed was a blur of strange and shifting memories.
Han Tian remembered seeming to fall into a soft embrace. In her daze she saw the Cub she thought about day and night. Mo Sang gripped her waist and pressed her onto the bed, glaring with a pair of alluring eyes, looking almost fierce.
Mo Sang seemed to ask her some questions. Han Tian no longer remembered what they were. Faced with Mo Sang's beautiful face at such close range, Han Tian found she had lost the ability to think and could only nod foolishly...
Later...
Han Tian did not know which of her words had offended Mo Sang. Mo Sang seemed extremely angry and yet also heartbroken, her beautiful eyes misted over as if tears would fall the next second...
That look was truly heartbreaking!
As a mom fan, seeing her own Cub look like that, Han Tian felt her whole heart would shatter. She only wanted to coax Mo Sang into smiling and to stop being sad...
Emboldened by attraction, Han Tian leaned in to kiss Mo Sang on the cheek. Mo Sang lowered her head and did not refuse, and later even took the initiative and kissed her back...
...
When she woke the next day, Han Tian found herself in a hotel, aching all over as if she had run eight hundred meters...
Beside her slept a face both familiar and strange.
It felt familiar because Han Tian saw this face every day. Her lock screen, chat background and avatar all used this face. It felt strange because up close this face looked even better than on video. At this moment the owner of that face was leaning on her shoulder, sleeping sweetly.
Han Tian was so frightened her heart nearly split. Unable to bear the shock of her own house collapsing overnight, and by her own hand at that, she fled without any courage.
She hurriedly pulled on her clothes and ran out of the room, only to run into Mo Sang's Manager Li Ai.
Li Ai earnestly asked Han Tian not to spread word of what had happened and told her something. Han Tian was the first woman Mo Sang had been close to in all these years. Mo Sang had an ex-girlfriend she had never stopped thinking about all these years, and that woman had abandoned her. Whether by luck or misfortune, Han Tian looked exactly like that ex-girlfriend, and Mo Sang had also been drinking last night...
Han Tian never imagined Mo Sang had taken her for a stand-in!
As she talked with Li Ai, Han Tian regained her reason. Looking back carefully on last night, she had been the first to be swayed by beauty. Mo Sang had at most gone along without refusing. In this muddled affair, it was impossible to say who was right and who was wrong.
If word got out, Mo Sang's stardom would likely suffer a huge blow. After all, this was the Cub she had loved for five years, and Han Tian could not bear to let Mo Sang fall into such a plight.
Han Tian agreed to Li Ai's request.
She had thrown herself frantically into scientific research during this time, trying to forget that hazy and ambiguous night, yet she had not expected to receive a message from Li Ai just now: "Mo Sang seems to have come looking for you. If you see her, please send her back..."
Han Tian did not think Mo Sang would come to find her. After all, once sober, Mo Sang would know she was not that ex-girlfriend of hers.
Han Tian never expected Mo Sang would actually come!
Han Tian actually had many questions she wanted to ask. For instance, how did Mo Sang know where she was, how did she get her number, and what exactly did she want to do...
Yet she had not expected Mo Sang to act so unpredictably and kiss her directly, and to still treat her as her ex-girlfriend even now!
