Indulgence - Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Yao Ran had never said the word "miss" to anyone before, and she found it was quite difficult to say out loud. Despite the fact that tonight, she really did want Jiang Nian by her side…

Jiang Nian smiled happily as she waited for a reply.

Yao Ran looked at the screen, making small talk. "You're working so late, are you tired?"

And just like that, she changed the subject. Jiang Nian's smile faltered with a hint of disappointment, but at least Yao Ran had initiated the video call. Her lips still curved upwards. "It's fine, I'm not tired. Sometimes I work until one or two in the morning. Now that's late."

"It's not early now, either," Yao Ran said.

Jiang Nian pursed her lips. "Mm." Her gaze was fixed on the person on the screen, who had just showered and was wrapped in a robe, the neckline revealing a faint glimpse of her collarbone.

What was she thinking, suddenly video calling me late at night in her sleepwear? Jiang Nian was already susceptible to temptation, let alone when Yao Ran was the one initiating it.

Yao Ran also stared at the face on her screen. After a pause, she said, "…Get some rest."

Jiang Nian: ???

That was it? After waiting a moment, Jiang Nian muttered in frustration, "You video called me just to say that?"

Yao Ran also felt her own behavior was awkward. A moment ago, she had just felt a sudden urge to see her, but of course, she couldn't bring herself to say such cloying words. This feeling of longing for someone was somewhat foreign to her.

A moment of silence passed.

Jiang Nian took the initiative. "Do you want me to come over and keep you company?"

The moment she said it, Yao Ran wanted to say yes, but she replied rationally, "No need, it's already very late." Besides, tomorrow was Saturday, and she knew that Jiang Nian's studio was always swamped with clients on her days off.

After a few more simple words, they ended the video call.

After their brief chat, Jiang Nian absentmindedly stroked Si Mao's head. Suddenly video calling me, then not saying anything…

Yao Ran put down her phone and heard the pitter-patter of rain outside her window.

It had started to rain.

Summer rain arrived with a passion. In just a short while, the drizzle turned into a torrential downpour.

The late-night rain was unsettling. Outside the window, a watery mist obscured everything from view.

Yao Ran leaned against the bed and idly flipped through a few pages of a book. Gradually, the sound of the rain lessened, though it showed no signs of stopping.

Before long, Yao Ran's gaze shifted from her book. She picked up the "happy puppy" carving from her bedside table and toyed with it in her palm out of boredom. She squeezed the small wooden dog, recalling what Jiang Nian had said to her that day, and smiled faintly.

Sleeping alone in a two-meter-wide bed felt excessively empty. She turned her head to look at the vacant pillow beside her and zoned out for a moment, her mind involuntarily conjuring the image of a clingy Jiang Nian refusing to get out of bed—

The notification sound of a WeChat message interrupted her thoughts. She picked up her phone to look, and her eyes froze:

【Jiang Nian】I'm here.

The rain was still falling.

When Yao Ran opened the door, she saw Jiang Nian standing there, drenched by the rain. Her long, loose hair was slightly messy and damp, giving her a somewhat disheveled appearance.

Their eyes met.

Jiang Nian gave her a relaxed smile.

Yao Ran snapped back to her senses, first pulling her inside before saying, "Why did you come over? It's raining so hard tonight…"

"I drove. I didn't get that wet," Jiang Nian said nonchalantly, her eyes fixed on her.

"Not that wet? Your hair is soaked," Yao Ran told her.

"Just a little." It had started raining after Jiang Nian left her studio, and the downpour had been quite heavy on the way. Fortunately, the rain had lightened by the time she arrived, so she only got wet on the walk from the public parking space to the apartment building.

Yao Ran urged her softly, "Go take a shower first. Don't catch a cold."

"Okay." Jiang Nian headed to the bathroom.

Yao Ran went to the walk-in closet, found a clean towel and a robe, and brought them to her.

Although they hadn't been together for long, things like showering and spending the night at each other's places were already second nature.

Jiang Nian took a quick shower and changed into a fresh, comfortable robe. She glanced in the mirror; it was a silk robe she had seen Yao Ran wear before.

The bathroom door opened. Yao Ran looked over and handed her the hair dryer.

The bathroom was connected to the walk-in closet. Jiang Nian walked out and simply looked up at Yao Ran.

Yao Ran understood. She took the hair dryer and began to dry her hair for her.

Jiang Nian smiled in satisfaction, comfortably enjoying her girlfriend's attentive service.

When Yao Ran lowered her gaze, a hint of a smile touched her eyes as well. She dried Jiang Nian's hair with focused care.

In front of the full-length mirror in the walk-in closet, one stood obediently while the other dried her hair attentively. Neither of them spoke, their gazes occasionally meeting in the mirror.

The bedroom was just as quiet, but the feeling of one person versus two was completely different.

Once her hair was dry, Yao Ran ran her fingers through it to tidy it up before putting the hair dryer down.

Jiang Nian then turned to face Yao Ran, standing close as her eyes met hers.

They looked at each other for a moment. "Were you unhappy at dinner tonight?" Jiang Nian asked. She knew Yao Ran had a family dinner that evening.

"No," Yao Ran replied faintly. It was just the same as always. However, she was indeed growing more and more weary of that stern and stifling atmosphere, especially now that she had Jiang Nian, which created a stark contrast.

Jiang Nian pressed for confirmation. "Are you sure you're not in a bad mood?"

Yao Ran nodded. Her gaze softened as she looked at Jiang Nian, and she couldn't help but murmur, "Coming all the way here late at night in the rain… you're something else, aren't you?"

"Not at all." Jiang Nian, on the other hand, delighted in it. If Yao Ran wasn't in a bad mood, then she must have simply missed her, which was more than enough to make her happy. She smiled as she gazed at Yao Ran and asked softly, "Someone was missing me quite a bit tonight, weren't they?"

Yao Ran didn't usually joke around, but for some reason, she enjoyed teasing Jiang Nian. She said nonchalantly, "Who missed you?"

Jiang Nian's sparkling eyes swept across Yao Ran's face. "Who else could it be?"

This slightly childish exchange made Yao Ran smile, tacitly acknowledging Jiang Nian's claim.

Their face-to-face proximity was perfect for a hug, and Jiang Nian did just that, quietly raising her arms and gently embracing the woman before her.

Yao Ran's mood eased and relaxed. The hug was perfectly timed. She liked it.

After embracing her, Jiang Nian looked at her from up close and quietly added, "Besides, if someone else missed me, wouldn't you just get jealous again?"

"…"

Yao Ran was at a loss for words.

Having successfully teased her, Jiang Nian's smile became bright and captivating. She hugged her even tighter, a clingy streak showing. She was telling the truth; Yao Ran got jealous more easily than she had imagined, and she was incredibly difficult to coax when she did.

Yao Ran did, in fact, mind. That night when she overheard the slightly ambiguous conversation between Jiang Nian and Yu Zhao, she hadn't admitted it, but her heart had soured with jealousy. Looking back, she felt she had been a bit unreasonable. Jiang Nian wasn't like her; she had a naturally warm and cheerful personality, so it was only normal for her to have many close friends.

Their embrace made the quiet atmosphere feel cozy. Yao Ran found herself growing more and more attached to the warmth in her arms. She had thought it would take her a while to adjust to life as a couple, but she never expected that she was already growing tired of the tranquility of being alone…

"From now on, if you miss me, just tell me directly," Jiang Nian said again. "I'll come be with you right away."

Yao Ran paused for a moment. "…Coming over so late, in such heavy rain, aren't you being silly?" There was no hint of blame in her words; instead, a soft spot in her heart had been touched—did she really rush over just because of that video call?

Jiang Nian caught the affection in her tone but deliberately feigned grievance. "I came all this way for you, and you think I'm silly?"

Yao Ran said in a low voice, "That's not it…"

Jiang Nian laughed, getting straight to the point. "You're worried about me, aren't you?"

Smiling playfully, Jiang Nian looked rather well-behaved with her freshly dried hair. Watching her, Yao Ran couldn't resist reaching out to ruffle her head.

Jiang Nian loved these small gestures. She does need me, deep down, doesn't she? She's just been reserved for so long that she's not used to expressing it. She leaned in and kissed the corner of Yao Ran's mouth, saying softly and earnestly, "I missed you too."

After getting together, they didn't see each other very frequently. Jiang Nian wanted to be more proactive but was afraid Yao Ran preferred a slower-paced romance, so she had to restrain her enthusiasm. She was truly overjoyed when Yao Ran had taken the initiative to video call her tonight.

As expressions of longing go, "I missed you too" was much sweeter than "I missed you." Yao Ran was moved. Their eyes met, and she gently returned the kiss on the corner of Jiang Nian's lips.

The sweetness filled Jiang Nian's heart, but a simple peck wasn't enough to satisfy her. She hooked her arm around Yao Ran's neck. "I want to kiss for longer."

She couldn't stay serious for more than three minutes. Yao Ran smiled silently, helpless as usual against her shamelessness.

Jiang Nian smiled too, eagerly leaning in for another kiss. Yao Ran had anticipated it, so she instinctively closed her eyes the moment their warm lips met.

Under the soft light, their lips pressed together, moving and sucking gently.

Kissing, like hugging, grew sweeter and more addictive as feelings deepened. Even the most reserved person would act involuntarily; the body's instinctive reactions were always true.

The person she had been thinking about had suddenly appeared right when she needed her. Yao Ran couldn't help herself. She tilted her head and kissed the corner of Jiang Nian's mouth. Jiang Nian had just showered, and her lips were moist and soft, making them exceptionally pleasant to kiss at that moment.

"Mmm—" Being kissed again, Jiang Nian hummed in pleasure. As she opened her lips to eagerly kiss back, her palm caressed the nape of Yao Ran's neck, and she pressed her body even closer.

Having been entangled in kisses like this by Jiang Nian so often, Yao Ran was no longer inexperienced. She held Jiang Nian's waist and, spurred on by her passionate advances, began to kiss her more and more deeply.

They held each other tightly, their lips sucking urgently. With a shared understanding, their lips pressed closer, and a deep kiss quickly swept over them.

Both were wrapped in robes that looked like a matching set. Wearing each other's sleepwear was an intimate and suggestive act, and as they embraced, their lips and tongues tangling in a heated exchange, it was even more alluring.

Kissing so deeply was incredibly arousing. After a moment, Jiang Nian pulled away, panting lightly—not because she didn't know how to breathe while kissing, but because she was enjoying it too much.

She had stopped right when they were getting into it.

Yao Ran looked at her face and asked, "Are you uncomfortable?"

In a way, she was. Jiang Nian cleared her throat and told her bluntly, "If we keep kissing, I'm going to get uncomfortable…"

Yao Ran understood instantly. She knew exactly how sensitive Jiang Nian was.

Jiang Nian stared at Yao Ran, not wanting to pull away. She appeared restrained on the surface, but her eyes told a different story.

Her gaze was sticky and thick with longing. Yao Ran saw it clearly. With her arm still around Jiang Nian's waist, she watched her for a moment before forcing herself to overcome her embarrassment and say, very quietly, "It's gone."

Hearing Yao Ran's direct hint, Jiang Nian felt a mix of amusement and desire. She feigned ignorance, humming, "Hm? What is?"

Yao Ran pressed her lips together. "…"

Jiang Nian hooked her arm around her neck and kissed her again, this time with unrestrained desire. "Mm," she murmured, her kiss long and deep.

A moment later, Yao Ran was also wrapping her arms around Jiang Nian, kissing her back with equal fervor. It turned out that psychological affection really could spread to the physical.

They tumbled onto the sofa in the walk-in closet, the full-length mirror beside them clearly reflecting the image of them embracing and kissing deeply.

Jiang Nian had already been aroused during the video call. Now that they were together in person, she was completely unrestrained. As they kissed and pulled at each other, their robes loosened and fell half-open, revealing fair, delicate skin. She buried her head in Yao Ran's collarbone, kissing her with a mix of tenderness and passion.

Yao Ran looked down, stroking her back. Faced with such advances, she found it increasingly difficult to maintain her self-control—nor did she need to.

As Jiang Nian kissed her, she hummed and asked, "Were you trying to seduce me tonight?"
