MQSP - Chapter 79
Chapter 79
The Flower Witch led the two of them into the manor. Although she had already accompanied the little one here several times, Lin Yuqing was still surprised every time she came. And besides her surprise, she also sighed inwardly, marveling that all the promises Gu Xinran had made back then had been fulfilled. Even this manor had enough rooms reserved for her former close friends. There was a main house with guest rooms connected to it, and every room was meticulously decorated and furnished, showing great care.
The main house was some distance from the flower garden. Next to the garden, however, was a small wooden house where she usually lived. The main house, including the guest rooms, had almost never been occupied, but she still went to clean it every day.
The Flower Witch didn't speak, just kept her head down and walked forward. Fang Yi frequently glanced up to size her up. Although her figure was stooped, her steps were steady. The way she walked seemed very unfamiliar, yet within that unfamiliarity, there was a trace of long-lost familiarity.
"I'm sorry to disturb you so abruptly. It's just that this sea of orchids is very meaningful to us, so we'd like to borrow your manor. Would that be possible?" Fang Yi unconsciously humbled herself as she negotiated.
The Flower Witch didn't speak, leading the two of them around to the courtyard behind the main house. The manor was surrounded by a person-high fence made of branches, enclosing the area. But because the front yard had the view of the sea of flowers, the fence had been damaged by tourists and was now only half a person's height. The Flower Witch hadn't repaired it. The backyard, however, had no particular scenery, so no one had damaged it, making it relatively more private.
Just as Fang Yi was about to speak again, she suddenly froze. Even Lin Yuqing was stunned for a moment.
They saw that the backyard was even more spacious than the front, and it had already been set up as a wedding venue.
The courtyard was filled with orchids, with a heart-shaped path left clear. The path was covered with a red carpet. In the very center of the heart was a raised platform about twenty centimeters high—the stage needed for the wedding.
Fang Yi could even imagine the two of them walking forward from opposite sides of the heart-shaped path, finally joining hands on the stage.
Moreover, there were even more orchids here than in the front yard, blooming more luxuriantly and profusely. Seeing this, Lin Yuqing felt a surge of excitement. She couldn't wait!
"This…" Fang Yi was a bit tongue-tied. She couldn't help but steal a few more glances at the Flower Witch. Who… who on earth was she?
"Here. Is it acceptable?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Fang Yi nodded hurriedly. This was more than acceptable. The arrangement of the flowers clearly showed immense care.
"You didn't build this specifically for us, did you?" Fang Yi was a little puzzled.
Lin Yuqing sighed. "You really are a thoughtful godmother."
"Godmother?" Fang Yi was taken aback. She seemed to recall Jiang Boyan mentioning that Xiao Ye had acknowledged a godmother here. Oh, so it was her!
Now everything was settled. The wedding venue was secured!
Fang Yi felt a great weight lift from her shoulders and finally breathed a sigh of relief. "Ah, if you had told us earlier that you had prepared this, I wouldn't have been in such a hurry."
"And you," she said to Lin Yuqing, "why didn't you tell me earlier that this is your godmother?"
Lin Yuqing looked completely baffled.
"She's Xiao Ye's…"
"Xiao Ye's, but not yours?"
"…I…" Lin Yuqing opened her mouth, speechless.
The Flower Witch glanced at her and smiled.
"Is the Flower Witch a local?" Seeing the Flower Witch's smiling face, Fang Yi was momentarily lost in a daze. The way her eyes curved when she smiled… it was so much like Xinran!
"Mm," the Flower Witch responded, her smile fading.
"Go back now." She turned and issued an order to leave.
"Hey…" Fang Yi was still reluctant, but Lin Yuqing pulled her away. "She has a strange temper and doesn't give anyone face. We should quit while we're ahead."
"Oh? I'm surprised to hear those words coming from your mouth," Fang Yi said, looking astonished.
"What about me?"
"Aren't you describing yourself?"
"…"
After returning to their lodgings, the more Fang Yi thought about it, the more something felt off. Setting other things aside, why would the Flower Witch go to such great lengths to prepare a venue for the two of them? Just because she was Xiao Ye's godmother? That was too far-fetched!
Even Jiang Boyan, who doted on Xiao Ye so much, had only gone to the trouble of helping her make a wedding dress. Comparing the two, the latter's effort paled in comparison.
So why would she do all this? She could have just provided the venue.
And there was another point that bothered her: the manor, excluding the main house, had exactly six rooms, no more, no less.
She still remembered that Xinran had once promised that when she stopped acting, she would take Yilan and find a scenic place to live in seclusion. She would build a manor with a garden, and she would personally plant Yilan's favorite orchids for her. She would also reserve a guest room in the manor for each of them, so when they were tired and weary, they could go find her. She wanted her manor to be the warmest harbor in everyone's hearts.
If all of this was a coincidence, it was too much of a coincidence!
And the most important point was the way she looked when she smiled—it was so much like Xinran. Although her face was burned, her eyes were still beautiful. Unfortunately, she had never made eye contact with her, so there was no opportunity to observe her eyes.
Fang Yi was completely absorbed in her thoughts about the Flower Witch, but she was getting increasingly irritated by Lin Yuqing's frequent sighs.
"What's wrong with you? Too excited to sleep?" she asked, watching Lin Yuqing pace around the room. It was the middle of the night, and she still hadn't gone to bed.
Lin Yuqing glanced at her. Do I look excited?
"Don't tell me… you miss Xiao Ye? It's only been half a day and you're like this? You can't even sleep without her at night?" Fang Yi looked astonished.
"Ah…" Lin Yuqing silently nodded. She had grown accustomed to holding the little one's soft body, accustomed to the way she would nuzzle into her arms, acting cute and playful. Suddenly not being able to hold her, she felt an emptiness in her heart, like being scratched by a cat—an unbearable itch.
"You… don't tell me you two do it every day…"
"What?" Seeing the strange expression on Fang Yi's face, Lin Yuqing genuinely didn't understand.
"You two… do you have to 'do it' every day before you can sleep?"
"What… 'do what'?! You! You old pervert!" Lin Yuqing finally understood and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What did she take her for? Some kind of sex fiend?!
"I'm just used to holding her every day." Lin Yuqing looked down at her hands.
Hearing this, Fang Yi suddenly shrank toward the foot of the bed, silently pulling the blanket up to cover herself.
"…Don't worry, I have no feelings for you whatsoever."
"I'm afraid you'll lose control and pounce."
"Pah! Seriously, I miss her a little. Do you think she's missing me too? But why haven't I sneezed?" Lin Yuqing seemed possessed, sitting on the edge of the bed with her chin in her hands, muttering to herself.
Fang Yi truly regretted sharing a room with her. And seeing her in this state, Fang Yi was also very surprised. Before, she had always been stern and serious, never showing any unnecessary emotion on her face. But now, she loved to joke around, could tell dirty jokes, and her facial expressions were incredibly rich. It was as if she had become a completely different person!
Fang Yi thought for a moment, then got up and opened the window. A cold wind poured in. Being cunning, she immediately dove back under the covers. Lin Yuqing shivered. "What are you doing?"
"Hm? Didn't you want to sneeze?"
"…" Lin Yuqing was very annoyed. She closed the window and shot her a dirty look.
"Why don't you go back and see her? Tossing and turning like this isn't a solution." This woman's energy was just too good. Her own eyelids were fighting to stay open, but she wasn't the least bit sleepy. At this rate, there was no way she'd get any sleep.
Lin Yuqing immediately nodded and left without a second thought.
Half an hour later, Fang Yi was shivering and hugging herself, watching Lin Yuqing, who was completely disregarding her image, clinging to the windowsill and peeking into the wooden house.
She couldn't believe she'd fallen for her tricks. Fang Yi's original intention was just to get her to go up by herself so she could take the opportunity to sleep. But that woman had brazenly said it was too dark and unsafe to walk alone at night, "You have to come with me!" And just like that, she had dragged her along too. As a result, after being blasted by the cold wind the whole way, she was now wide awake and not at all sleepy!
Lin Yuqing went around to the back of the wooden house and carefully pushed the window open a tiny crack. Luckily, it wasn't locked from the inside. She tried to peer inside using the moonlight, but the room was pitch-black and she couldn't see anything, which made her a little anxious.
Just as she was feeling frustrated, she saw a figure move on the bed. She quickly ducked her head, holding her breath and listening intently. If Lu Qing discovered her, she'd be in for an earful.
Hearing what sounded like footsteps, Lin Yuqing quickly crouched down, her mind racing to come up with any possible excuse.
However, after waiting a moment, there was no movement. Lin Yuqing breathed a sigh of relief. When she looked up, she found the little one leaning on the window frame, chin in her hands, smiling at her.
"You scared me." Lin Yuqing patted her chest, chiding her softly.
Lin Yuqing straightened up. "Nonsense. I was sleeping like a log," she said, lying through her teeth with a perfectly straight face.
"Oh? Then what are you doing running over here in the middle of the night?"
Lin Yuqing's eyes darted around unconsciously. "Fang Yi has insomnia, so she asked me to go for a walk with her."
Baiye stifled a laugh. A moment of silence for Auntie Fang.
"Why are you still awake?" Lin Yuqing asked.
"Hm? I… I was asleep. I just suddenly heard a noise and thought a thief had gotten in. I didn't expect it to be a flower thief!"
Lin Yuqing shot her a huge eye-roll. Little brat.
"Alright, hurry back and get some rest. Look at you, you already have dark circles under your eyes." Baiye reached out and touched Lin Yuqing's face. It was cold. She then took her hand and blew a warm breath on it to warm it up.
"It's so cold at night, don't run around. If you catch a cold, I'll be worried."
Lin Yuqing's heart warmed. Just seeing the little one made her feel completely at ease.
"Mm." Lin Yuqing lifted her head. The little one gave her a helpless glance, stood on her tiptoes, and prepared to give her a goodnight kiss.
"Hm? Xiao Ye? What are you doing?" Inside the room, Lu Qing groggily sat up.
Baiye's heart skipped a beat. Lin Yuqing was so scared she immediately dropped into a crouch, looking extremely guilty. Not only that, but why did she also feel like she'd been caught in the act?
"Uh, nothing. It's a little cold, I'm just closing the window." As Baiye closed the window, she waved at Lin Yuqing, signaling for her to leave quickly.
Lin Yuqing was very unwilling to leave. She grabbed the little one's hand and kissed it before running off, satisfied.
