Married in a Daze - Chapter 138
Chapter 138
Lu Ruyun had arrived late in the morning, and by the time she wrapped for the day, it was already past nine in the evening. Qin Zhenzhen had already returned to the apartment from the hospital. Lu Ruyun had initially wanted to go to the hospital first, but Zhenzhen said that by the time she arrived, Yin Lanfang and the others would probably be resting, so she shouldn't bother going. Only then did Lu Ruyun head straight back to the apartment.
He Shuangshuang was still the one driving today. She had been on set until the afternoon before leaving to take another artist from the studio to an audition, returning only after it was over.
Lu Ruyun sat in the car. She had filmed all day, and hadn't slept well the night before either. She had thought she would be exhausted, but sitting in the car, her spirits were actually rather fine. She turned to look at He Shuangshuang, who was driving, and asked, "Has Qiuhan contacted you about the promotional schedule?"
He Shuangshuang thought for a few seconds. "He mentioned it. The times are in the computer."
As she spoke, she handed the computer beside her to Lu Ruyun. The screen lit up, the page still open on Weibo, Qin Zhenzhen's name leaping into view.
These days, her name was always linked with Perfect Star Magazine. Just a couple of days ago, things had seemed to be calming down, but Lanyi's aggressive entrance had once again focused everyone's attention on Qin Zhenzhen.
Coupled with the fact that Cold Palace was nearing its conclusion, every newly released episode could make it to the trending list. Lu Ruyun saw two Weibo topics about her currently trending.
#QinZhenzhenEndorsesLanyi#
#Cold PalaceConcubine Yuan Yu Targets the Emperor#
These were two completely unrelated topics, yet her fans managed to stir up discussion around both. Lu Ruyun saw that Lanyi's official account had posted several photos of Qin Zhenzhen. Some were form-fitting, perfectly showcasing her exquisite figure. The fans in the comments were screaming non-stop; even through the screen, she could sense the intense excitement.
Lu Ruyun met Qin Zhenzhen's lovely face on the screen and smiled.
He Shuangshuang asked while driving, "Did you find it?"
Lu Ruyun snapped out of her reverie, lowered her head, closed Weibo, and opened the schedule. She saw the newly added entry.
There wasn't much promotional work to do. Due to limited funding, it was impossible for her to run around to as many places as Qin Zhenzhen had for Cold Palace. Compared to Zhenzhen's busy schedule, her own promotion could almost be described as leisurely. However, she still had Drunken Dreams of Jianghu to film, so no matter how un-busy she was, she still needed to make time.
Seeing her staring at the screen, He Shuangshuang asked, puzzled, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"
Lu Ruyun gave a soft hum and turned to look at He Shuangshuang. "Zhenzhen and I are planning to have a wedding ceremony."
He Shuangshuang was driving. Hearing this, her hand nearly slipped on the steering wheel. A surprised voice came from beside her. "A wedding ceremony?"
Then she slapped her own forehead with one hand. That was a stupid question. Back when the two got married, it was out of necessity. Forget a wedding ceremony, they used to try to avoid each other whenever they met. Now that they were together, having a proper ceremony was a must.
A smile also appeared on her face, a hint of happiness for her friend. "Need my help?"
Lu Ruyun: "I'll let you know if I do."
He Shuangshuang gripped the steering wheel. "Okay, don't be polite with me."
After saying that, she seemed to think of something, carefully glancing at Lu Ruyun's expression, her voice lowering slightly. "What about your family side..."
Lu Ruyun didn't say anything, hesitating for a long time before replying, "Just contact my aunt."
He Shuangshuang looked at her several times and nodded. "Okay."
Afraid her earlier words had made Lu Ruyun unhappy, He Shuangshuang gave a light cough to change the subject. "Should we invite Qiuhan? He seems really busy lately. Is it because of the Like a Dream promotion?"
Lu Ruyun thought for a moment. "No, I heard him say he's preparing to shoot a movie."
"Shoot a movie?" The car slowly entered the residential complex. He Shuangshuang's voice carried a laugh. "Where'd he get the money? Last time—" Her voice dropped a little. "Last time, didn't he say a lot of investors pulled out?"
Recalling Duan Qiuhan's words, Lu Ruyun shook her head. "I'm not too sure either. We'll talk about it during the promotion. It's only a few days away."
He Shuangshuang thought that made sense. The car stopped at the apartment entrance. Lu Ruyun got out, waved at her, and entered the building.
Qin Zhenzhen hadn't been back long either. She had taken a shower and was sitting on the sofa, too lazy to blow-dry her hair. Hearing movement at the door, she turned her head to look. Lu Ruyun changed into slippers and came in.
"You're back." Qin Zhenzhen stretched. "Hungry? Want me to make you some noodles?"
Lu Ruyun saw her wearing pajamas, a dry towel wrapped around her head, a few drops of water still trailing down from her temples. She walked over, leaning against Qin Zhenzhen. "No need, I'm not hungry."
Qin Zhenzhen tilted her head to look at her and smiled. "What's wrong?"
Thinking of what He Shuangshuang had said in the car, Lu Ruyun wrapped her arms around Qin Zhenzhen, picked her up, rested her chin on Zhenzhen's shoulder, and smelled a faint, clean fragrance. She pursed her lips. "It's nothing."
Qin Zhenzhen could hear something off in her voice but didn't press. She just got up and said, "Go take a shower first. I'll fix you something to eat."
Lu Ruyun watched as she finished giving orders and headed towards the kitchen. Her arms now felt empty. She stared at Qin Zhenzhen's slender figure for a long moment before finally getting up, taking her pajamas, and entering the bathroom.
The sound of running water echoed. Qin Zhenzhen made a small bowl of wontons. Just as Lu Ruyun emerged from the bathroom, she happened to be placing the bowl on the coffee table.
A commercial was playing on the TV. White steam rose from the bowl on the table. Qin Zhenzhen's figure moved through every corner of the living room, effortlessly filling Lu Ruyun's heart. Her gaze burned as she watched Zhenzhen skip over to the TV console to grab something, then hop back to the sofa, movements like a child's.
Lu Ruyun stood behind her with a soft smile. The gloom she'd felt upon entering the apartment was instantly washed away, replaced by nothing but overwhelming warmth.
She padded over in her slippers. Qin Zhenzhen was eating some fruit. Seeing her come out, she pointed at the coffee table. "You didn't seem to have much of an appetite, so I just made a little. Eat up, and we'll go to bed early."
Lu Ruyun sat down beside her, tilting her head to see Zhenzhen's bare feet. The ankle chain she had given her before was still there, resting against fair skin, indescribably dazzling.
"Ruyun?"
Qin Zhenzhen, seeing her unmoving, nudged her arm. Lu Ruyun snapped back to reality, made an affirmative sound, and picked up the spoon beside the small bowl, giving the contents a stir. Wispy white steam rose.
Lu Ruyun sat on the sofa and finished the wontons.
After eating, Qin Zhenzhen urged her to rest early. Two days and a night without sleep—even immortals couldn't handle it. Lu Ruyun placed the bowl in the kitchen, came out with a hairdryer. Qin Zhenzhen laughed. "I'll do it myself."
Lu Ruyun met her clear eyes. "It's fine, let me help you."
As she spoke, she pulled off the dry towel Qin Zhenzhen had wrapped around her hair. The sound of the hairdryer immediately filled the living room. Lu Ruyun's fingers ran through her strands, feeling the wet hair in her palm gradually dry, turning light and airy.
Qin Zhenzhen looked up at her from time to time, offering her a soft, upturned smile. When Lu Ruyun responded, she stretched out her arms, hooked them around Lu Ruyun's neck, and quickly leaned in to plant a kiss on her lips.
"Why are you unhappy?"
Qin Zhenzhen's voice reached Lu Ruyun's ears through the noise of the hairdryer. Lu Ruyun turned off the hairdryer and sat down beside her. After thinking for a moment, she spoke frankly. "Zhenzhen, was the decision to have a wedding ceremony too rash?"
"Huh?" Qin Zhenzhen looked at Lu Ruyun, confused. "Rash?"
Meeting her bright eyes, Lu Ruyun's lips moved slightly. Her parents placed so much importance on wedding formalities, but when the time came, her own parents wouldn't be able to attend, not even any relatives—only an aunt. She could imagine how the scene would look.
After He Shuangshuang asked her that question, she had thought about it deeply. Perhaps, regarding the wedding ceremony, she hadn't thought it through properly.
Seeing her silence, Qin Zhenzhen frowned at her. Lu Ruyun didn't want to hide it, honestly telling her her thoughts. Qin Zhenzhen patted her shoulder and laughed. "I thought it was something serious. I already talked to my parents about all this."
Lu Ruyun was slightly taken aback. "You told them?"
Qin Zhenzhen nodded. "Yeah, I told Mom and Dad. Your family is quite busy, can't make it to City A. So we'll do it twice: have one ceremony here, and another one in Country J."
"My parents have no objections."
Hearing her words, Lu Ruyun's expression softened slightly, a warm feeling spreading in her heart. Her voice lowered a bit. "Zhenzhen..."
Qin Zhenzhen, hearing her somewhat hoarse voice, pinched her chin. "What? Too moved? Then serve me well tonight."
Her expression of a bossy lord, her exaggerated act, made Lu Ruyun laugh. Lu Ruyun nodded seriously at her. "Okay."
Qin Zhenzhen was stunned. "What?"
Lu Ruyun pulled her up, turned off the TV, and raised her lips in a smile. "Serve you well."
Before Qin Zhenzhen could react, she was being pulled into the bedroom. The door closed with a soft click, blocking the ripples beginning to form inside. Intermittent sounds drifted out the window. The moon hid among the clouds.
He Shuangshuang looked up at the starry sky, then helplessly raised her wrist to check her watch. Half an hour had passed, and Ji Lu still hadn't come down.
She took a deep breath and closed the car window; the night air held a slight chill. Just as she was about to open her phone, she heard a knock on the window. She turned. Ji Lu opened the car door, smiling. "Here I am."
He Shuangshuang met her smiling face and bright eyes, the stiffness that had been on her own face for half an hour easing slightly. She gave a light cough. "Mhm."
Ji Lu smiled. "Just got off work?"
He Shuangshuang glanced at her, got out of the car, and nodded. "Just dropped Ruyun off."
Ji Lu hummed in acknowledgment. She had already gone to bed when He Shuangshuang's call pulled her out from under the covers. She hadn't had time to tidy up, just came out with her long hair loose, wearing loose pajamas.
Under the streetlight, her hair was lifted by the wind, revealing a clean, fresh face. The bag in her hand rustled. Seeing her shivering slightly, He Shuangshuang frowned. "Give me the stuff, you should go back."
As she spoke, she leaned over to take the bag from Ji Lu's hand. The edge of the bag had gotten tangled around Ji Lu's fingers in the wind and couldn't be pulled off immediately. Ji Lu's body was tugged closer to her. She said, "Wait a sec."
After speaking, Ji Lu lowered her head to untangle the bag. He Shuangshuang was taller, wearing high heels. They stood close. Ji Lu wore loose pajamas, and the wind blew from behind. Her pajamas weren't fitted. As He Shuangshuang looked down, her gaze inadvertently caught a glimpse of the scenery at Ji Lu's chest.
She immediately coughed lightly and took a step back. Ji Lu finally untangled the bag and handed it to her. He Shuangshuang took it and muttered under her breath, "Not that big anyway."
Ji Lu didn't react at first. It wasn't until she went upstairs, took off her pajamas, and got into bed that she realized what He Shuangshuang's comment had meant. Instantly indignant, she went on WeChat: Even if they're small, they're still bigger than yours!
He Shuangshuang: ......
