Married in a Daze - Chapter 136

Chapter 136

After Lu Ruyun finished filming for the day, Dong Xiang quickly walked up and stood in front of her, speaking in a slightly lowered voice. "Teacher Lu."

He Shuangshuang, who had come to pick up Lu Ruyun, glanced at her. Dong Xiang immediately blushed even more deeply. She lowered her head and said, "This is a specialty from my hometown. My mom mailed it to me a few days ago. I want to thank you and Zhenzhen for taking care of me all this time. I'd like you both to try it."

Her voice was very soft and thin, carrying a hint of shyness. But under Lu Ruyun's gaze, she still managed to say it without being servile or arrogant. Lu Ruyun thought for a moment and then accepted it. "Alright, thank you."

Dong Xiang breathed a sigh of relief. "You're welcome. See you tomorrow, Teacher Lu."

Lu Ruyun nodded, watching her turn and leave, soon surrounded by several other girls.

Currently, the artists signed to the studio didn't have dedicated assistants yet. Dong Xiang was staying at the hotel booked by the production crew, so she was always surrounded by people from the same crew whenever she finished filming.

Actually, such a scenario wasn't very common among newcomers. She was a new face with no previous works, playing an insignificant minor role in this drama. She should have been very inconspicuous.

But because she came from Lu Ruyun's studio, and Lu Ruyun and Qin Zhenzhen had recently gained even more popularity after the new year, many people, while they might joke around with Qin Zhenzhen and Lu Ruyun, honestly didn't have the courage to truly befriend them. They weren't on the same level. So, they settled for the next best thing and set their sights on Dong Xiang, who was also a newcomer.

Lu Ruyun typically turned a blind eye to such situations. On the contrary, He Shuangshuang had asked two or three times whether they should assign Dong Xiang an assistant. Lu Ruyun thought for a while. "Let's assign her an assistant after this drama wraps up."

He Shuangshuang nodded upon hearing this. She took the specialty food from Lu Ruyun's hand—it was quite heavy—and the two of them walked toward the car together.

As soon as they got in the car, Lu Ruyun received a call from Qin Zhenzhen. Her voice, transmitted through the phone line, sounded choked. "Ruyun."

Lu Ruyun immediately called out, "Zhenzhen?"

"Zhenzhen, what's wrong?"

Her expression was grave, her face anxious. He Shuangshuang beside her glanced at her several times, but Lu Ruyun's attention was solely on Qin Zhenzhen at the other end of the line.

"Ruyun, my mom has been taken to the hospital."

Lu Ruyun said immediately, "Where are you right now?"

Qin Zhenzhen had just changed her clothes. Her vision was blurry, and her voice was tinged with sobs. Hearing that she was about to drive over alone, Lu Ruyun quickly called out, "Zhenzhen, don't panic. I'm already on my way. Wait for me a few minutes. I'll come back, and we'll go together."

Qin Zhenzhen was soothed by her calm voice. She took several deep breaths and nodded. "Okay."

Lu Ruyun didn't hang up either. On the way, she asked about Yin Lanfang's condition.

Yin Lanfang's heart had never been very good. It was precisely because of this that they hired help for the flower shop and the elderly couple retired early. For the past two years, she had been getting regular check-ups without any warning signs. So this sudden news of her being hospitalized had genuinely scared Qin Zhenzhen, making her panic.

Fortunately, Lu Ruyun was there to comfort her, helping her calm down.

While talking to Qin Zhenzhen, Lu Ruyun also told He Shuangshuang to speed up and get back. When they reached the apartment, Qin Zhenzhen was standing at the entrance. She had changed into pajamas but was still wearing slippers. Her arms were wrapped around herself, head lowered. Under the streetlight, she looked rather pitiful. Lu Ruyun quickly opened the car door and called, "Zhenzhen!"

Hearing the voice from behind, Qin Zhenzhen immediately ran over and got in the car.

Lu Ruyun put away her phone and took Qin Zhenzhen's hand. Qin Zhenzhen's fingertips were cold and icy, whether from being outside just now or from the shock. Holding her hand, Lu Ruyun said to He Shuangshuang, "Shuangshuang, let's go."

He Shuangshuang had already started the engine before she even finished speaking. The car sped off. Seeing Qin Zhenzhen's body still tense, Lu Ruyun comforted her, "Everything will be okay."

"Mhm." Qin Zhenzhen nodded obediently, her mind a mess. She repeatedly called Qin Ye from the car, but no one answered. The feeling of unease in her heart grew heavier. She lowered her head, her eyes welling up with tears.

Seeing this, Lu Ruyun put an arm around her shoulders, patted her back, and shared her anxiety.

It was only when they arrived at the hospital that Qin Zhenzhen finally received a call.

It was Qin Ye calling her from the hospital's phone. When Yin Lanfang collapsed, he had been too frantic. Soon after calling Qin Zhenzhen, he got on the ambulance, not even realizing he had left his phone on the sofa. Now that Yin Lanfang's condition had stabilized, he remembered he needed to call Qin Zhenzhen again.

Sitting in the car, Qin Zhenzhen let out a breath when she heard him say everything was fine. She leaned back in the seat, closed her eyes for a moment, and a warm sensation landed on Lu Ruyun's shoulder. Lu Ruyun instinctively held her tighter.

"Everything's fine now. Don't be like this. Mom won't be happy if she sees you like this when we go in."

Qin Zhenzhen nodded in her embrace, wiping away her tears. But her eyes were still red, and her voice remained slightly hoarse. "Let's get out of the car."

Lu Ruyun helped her put on a hat and a mask and also disguised herself a bit. Then they got out of the car with Qin Zhenzhen. He Shuangshuang followed behind them as they entered the hospital.

Yin Lanfang really wasn't in any serious condition. She had gone for a walk with Qin Ye after dinner and had argued with someone along the way. It wasn't a big deal initially, but the more she thought about it after returning home, the angrier she got. The angrier she got, the more difficult her breathing became. Qin Ye saw her face turning pale and her having trouble breathing, so he quickly contacted the hospital and Qin Zhenzhen.

As Qin Zhenzhen entered the hospital room, she could still hear Yin Lanfang's voice.

"You called Zhenzhen? What did you call her for? Aren't you just making her worry? Hurry up and call her back to say I'm fine, tell her not to come."

"Honestly, you're really looking for trouble."

Yin Lanfang's intermittent voice came through the hospital room door. Qin Zhenzhen blinked, took a deep breath, linked arms with Lu Ruyun, and pushed the door open to enter.

Qin Ye was tidying up the room. Although she was fine, the doctor still suggested staying for observation for a couple of days. After entering, Qin Zhenzhen called out, "Dad, Mom."

Lu Ruyun followed closely behind to greet them. He Shuangshuang stood behind the two of them and said, "Uncle, Auntie."

Yin Lanfang smiled. "Why did you all come?"

"I was just scolding your dad. It's nothing serious, yet he had to call you."

Listening to Yin Lanfang's nagging, Qin Zhenzhen held back, her eyes reddening, her nose souring. She quickly walked over and tightly hugged Yin Lanfang, her voice hoarse. "Mom!"

Yin Lanfang was stunned for a moment, then reached out to hug Qin Zhenzhen back, a contented smile on her face. Seeing this, Lu Ruyun said to Qin Ye, "Dad, is Mom staying here tonight?"

Qin Ye nodded. "Yes, staying here tonight. But it's fine, just a few days of observation. If you and Zhenzhen are busy, you don't need to come over. I'm here."

Lu Ruyun lowered her gaze. "Then let me go back with you to pack some things."

Qin Ye looked over at the mother and daughter embracing and understood Lu Ruyun's intention. He stood up. "That's fine too."

Lu Ruyun and He Shuangshuang took Qin Ye home to get some daily necessities. On the way back, He Shuangshuang went into a fruit shop and bought a lot of fruit. They had left in such a hurry earlier that she hadn't brought anything. Now that Yin Lanfang was fine, even she felt relieved. With her mind at ease, she ended up buying a lot.

Of course, Qin Ye refused to accept it, but what He Shuangshuang bought wasn't expensive—just ordinary fruit, though in generous quantities. After Qin Ye declined twice, it felt awkward to refuse again. So, he and Lu Ruyun carried the fruits into the hospital together.

In the hospital room, Qin Zhenzhen and Yin Lanfang were talking. Although Qin Zhenzhen's eyes were still slightly red, her emotions had stabilized considerably. She asked, "Dad said you argued with someone. What was it about?"

Yin Lanfang hesitated for a few seconds and glanced at her. "A trivial matter."

Qin Zhenzhen obviously didn't believe her and was about to say more when Qin Ye walked in. He placed the things by the bed and put the bag of fruit on the nightstand. He asked Yin Lanfang, "Feeling better?"

Yin Lanfang looked at him. "I was fine to begin with. I would've been okay after resting at home."

Qin Ye snorted lightly. "I was afraid if you 'rested' too much, you'd 'rest' yourself into oblivion."

Yin Lanfang glared at him. "Are you cursing me?"

Seeing that Qin Zhenzhen and the others were present, Qin Ye didn't want to say more. He just picked up a bag of fruit and said, "I'll go wash the fruit. You all sit down. Shuangshuang, you sit too."

He Shuangshuang, standing behind Lu Ruyun, smiled when called upon and complied. "Alright."

Only then did Yin Lanfang shift her gaze to her. They hadn't met before, so she didn't know He Shuangshuang. Qin Zhenzhen followed her gaze and explained with a smile. Yin Lanfang nodded. "Don't just stand there, please sit."

He Shuangshuang glanced at Lu Ruyun and sat on a nearby stool. Soon after, Qin Ye brought the washed fruit. He checked the time; it was getting late. He urged Lu Ruyun and Qin Zhenzhen to go back first. He was here at the hospital, so they didn't need to come over.

Yin Lanfang thought the same. In any case, her check-up was done, she was fine, and she could be discharged after a few days of rest. Zhenzhen and Ruyun were always busy; they shouldn't waste time here.

Qin Zhenzhen immediately became unhappy. "How is it wasting time?"

Yin Lanfang was about to speak when Qin Ye nudged her arm and laughed it off. "No, no. Your mom meant you have that endorsement thing recently, right? She's afraid you're too busy."

Yin Lanfang went along with it. "Yes, that's exactly what I meant."

Seeing the elderly couple quickly change their tune under Qin Zhenzhen's cold stare, Lu Ruyun felt like laughing. She patted Qin Zhenzhen's shoulder. "Alright, Zhenzhen. It's getting late. Mom just finished her check-up and needs more rest. How about we come again tomorrow morning?"

Qin Zhenzhen looked at Qin Ye and Yin Lanfang, knowing she couldn't stay at the hospital tonight. She agreed. "Fine. Then I'll come again tomorrow morning."

Qin Ye glanced at Yin Lanfang, afraid that saying more would upset their daughter again, so he just nodded. "That's fine too."

After leaving the hospital room, Qin Zhenzhen didn't say much. Lu Ruyun knew she was still worried about Yin Lanfang's health. He Shuangshuang dropped them off at the apartment and then left. Qin Zhenzhen remained somewhat sullen all the way until bedtime.

Lu Ruyun lifted the blanket and got into bed, seeing Qin Zhenzhen facing away from her. She embraced Qin Zhenzhen from behind and said softly, "What's wrong?"

Qin Zhenzhen shifted her body, turned over, and hugged Lu Ruyun back, her voice very low. "Ruyun, I was really, really scared today."

Lu Ruyun held her, clasping her hand. Qin Zhenzhen's fingertips were still cold. She brought them to her lips and kissed them. "Don't worry. Everything's fine now."

Qin Zhenzhen nodded in her embrace and made a soft sound of agreement.

Seeing this, Lu Ruyun pursed her lips and called, "Zhenzhen."

Qin Zhenzhen looked up, the corners of her eyes still slightly red, her bright eyes glistening. She made a questioning hum. Lu Ruyun continued, "Do you remember when I asked you before if you had any schedule arrangements?"

When she said this, Qin Zhenzhen thought about it, recalling the day they discussed this topic, only to be interrupted by Ji Lu's arrival. She nodded. "What about it?"

Lu Ruyun tightened her grip on Qin Zhenzhen's hand, looking down at her. "I want to arrange a schedule for you."

Qin Zhenzhen met Lu Ruyun's eyes, deep and profound. Her red lips parted slightly. "What schedule?"

Lu Ruyun held her, letting her lean against her chest. She took Qin Zhenzhen's hand and placed it over her own heart, saying softly, "Let's have a wedding."
