Against the Light - Chapter 178
Chapter 178: The Wedding
Two years later, in the dead of winter, the New Year was approaching.
A Flower Sea Manor in the suburbs of Xiyuan City had been temporarily closed to tourists for the past few days. Bodyguards patrolled the perimeter at all times, prohibiting any unauthorized personnel from entering.
Speaking of this manor, two years ago, it had been a desolate piece of land. Gu Xinran had taken a liking to it, spent a great deal of money to buy the plot, and transformed it into a manor. She had deployed a large workforce to plant vast fields of orchids, turning it into a sea of flowers in just two short years.
The cultivation of these orchids had cost her a great deal of effort and care. Even when it was open to the public, visitors were strictly forbidden from getting too close, only allowed to admire them from a distance.
On this day, although the manor was under tight security outside, the inside was bustling with activity.
Qu Qi was leading the Heart Entertainment crew in setting up the stage and decorating the venue.
If anyone were to peek inside, their jaw would probably drop. The top trending celebrities were all carrying chairs and moving tables, putting their backs into it, yet they were still enjoying themselves, laughing and chatting.
It was truly a rare sight to behold.
"Hey, Guozi, this is Sister Ran's wedding, not yours. How come you look even happier than the two of them?" Shen Can asked with a laugh.
"Of course I'm happy! I'm their die-hard CP fan!" Lin Guo grinned from ear to ear.
"Qin Qiong, are you a die-hard CP fan too??"
Seeing Qin Qiong also beaming with joy, Shen Can asked again.
"Not exactly."
"But Guozi said that as long as Sister Ran and Sister Lan get married, she'll marry me."
"!?" Shen Can looked at Lin Guo in shock. This girl really is die-hard…
In the room, Gu Xinran sat on the sofa, her chin resting in her hands, gazing like a lovestruck fool at Yilan, who was trying on wedding dresses. A silly, infatuated smile never left her face.
"How is it?" Yilan spun around in front of the mirror, looking at Xinran behind her through the reflection.
"Beautiful. Every single one is beautiful!"
Hearing this, Bai Yilan shot her a look.
"What?"
"Sigh." Ming Zhen, who was beside them, sighed and shook her head. "With your emotional intelligence, how could you say every dress is beautiful? You should have said, 'My wife looks beautiful in anything she wears!'"
"…"
Gu Xinran was speechless, then chuckled helplessly. "I didn't think that needed to be said. Isn't it a fact?"
"Smooth talker~" Yilan huffed softly.
Gu Xinran mimicked her and huffed softly too. So no matter what I say, it's wrong!
Hmph!
"Ma… Mommy." Two little ones walked in from outside. One, who was half a head shorter than Xiao Ye, toddled in slowly, heading straight for Ming Zhen.
Before she could reach Ming Zhen, Gu Xinran intercepted her, lifting the little one up. "Xue Baobao, call me Godmother." Gu Xinran affectionately nuzzled the little one's cheek. This little milk bun had quite the background; she was the treasured daughter of the Xue and Ming families, the two giants of the fashion world. The little girl had just turned two. She was soft, adorable, and mild-tempered, with a huge appetite. Just like Xiao Ye used to be, she was chubby and round, like a little meatball.
"Tsk, Ming Baobao, don't call her that. Come to Mommy," Ming Zhen said.
"Ooh…" The little meatball stretched out her chubby little arms and pointed at Ming Zhen. Gu Xinran smiled and handed the little one over.
Ming Zhen hugged her own cub, gave her a fierce kiss, and doted on her immensely.
"Hey, you two still haven't decided on a name for the child, and she's already two."
"Who's to blame? The names for this generation in the Xue family registry are so awful. There's no way I'm letting my daughter be called Xue Youfu."
Gu Xinran burst out laughing. Yeah, it is a bit…
"Huh? What have you stuffed in your pockets?" Ming Zhen felt her daughter's bulging pockets and pulled out seven or eight pieces of candy.
"Ah! Mommy, my candy!"
"You've hidden so much candy? Didn't Mommy tell you not to eat too much? I'm confiscating it."
"N-no! Mommy, ah, Mommy!"
"Be good, no shouting." Ming Zhen hid the candy, and the little one became extremely anxious.
"Just give her one piece." Bai Yilan heard the commotion and walked over. She snatched a piece of candy from Ming Zhen's hand and gave it to the little meatball. "Call me Godmother~"
"Godmother~" The little one cheered up immediately, hugging Bai Yilan's hand and calling out to her sweetly.
"Tsk, what a little glutton." Ming Zhen tapped her little head and grumbled in mock displeasure.
"Ouch." The little one let out a delayed cry, making everyone roar with laughter.
"Hey, everyone's here. Look, the little flower girl has arrived~"
Su Yu led Xiao Ye in. The little girl was wearing a white princess dress with a small tiara on her head, looking as pure as a little angel.
Unconsciously, Xiao Ye was already five years old. She had grown taller and leaner, and her features had blossomed. She had Yilan's eyes and brows and Xinran's mouth. Her gentle and quiet demeanor was like Yilan's, but her bold ideas and daring nature were very much like Gu Xinran's.
The little girl walked in and gave everyone a bright smile, instantly melting their hearts with her cuteness.
"Not bad, so beautiful. She's simply a miniature version of Yilan." Ming Zhen was full of praise.
"Ooh! Smells good!" After seeing Xiao Ye, the little meatball in Ming Zhen's arms pointed at her with a small finger. She impatiently climbed down from Ming Zhen, staggered over to Xiao Ye's side, sniffed with her little nose, smacked her lips, hugged Xiao Ye, and stood on her tiptoes to bite her cheek.
"Aiya, Xue Baobao, you got your drool all over my face again." Xiao Ye wiped her cheek with a look of disgust.
"You little thing, why are you always biting people?" Gu Xinran couldn't stand to watch anymore and lifted Little Xue Bao up.
"Smells good! Soft! Yummy!" Little Xue Bao stared eagerly at Xiao Ye and unconsciously put her own finger in her mouth to bite.
"Daughter, if you like Sister Xiao Ye this much, then Mommy can arrange a child betrothal for you." Ming Zhen laughed, her eyes darting around as she hatched a mischievous plan.
Gu and Bai were both startled and exchanged a look.
"What's a child betrothal?" Little Xue Bao asked.
Lin Yuqing had just come in from outside and overheard the topic. She unconsciously perked up her ears.
"It means, when you grow up, you can marry Sister Xiao Ye and be her wife, and then you can kiss her every day."
"Ooh, I want that!"
"!?" "In your dreams!" Lin Yuqing glared at Little Xue Bao, instantly frightening the little one. The girl buried her face in Gu Xinran's arms and hid, not daring to look up at her.
"What a little coward." Gu Xinran chuckled helplessly, patting the little one to comfort her for a moment.
As they were chatting, Yu Hua suddenly walked in.
"Huh? Why are you still here? Don't you know you're not supposed to see each other again before the wedding?"
"Er, I just came to see how Yilan's dress selection was going. I'm leaving, I'm leaving." Gu Xinran winked at Yilan and turned to leave, afraid that Yu Hua would kick her out again.
"This one can't be trusted. Xiao Qing, you go watch her. Don't let her see Yilan again before the wedding tomorrow." Yu Hua glanced around and looked at Lin Yuqing, who seemed to have nothing to do.
"…Me? Oh." Lin Yuqing replied and obediently walked out.
You want me to make sure those two don't have a secret rendezvous? Are you sure? :)
