Married in a Daze - Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Qin Zhenzhen had originally thought Lu Ruyun's idea of "crazier" was that kiss. It wasn't until she was dragged into the bathroom after returning home that she truly understood what "youthful vigor" meant. Thankfully, she had filming the next day, so Lu Ruyun didn't torment her too much. They only did it once before both getting into bed to rest.
They slept in the bedroom upstairs. Qin Zhenzhen had actually rarely entered Lu Ruyun's room. For one, there was no time. For another, she was very careful about respecting that private domain. Without permission, she basically never set foot inside. So, when she was pulled into the room and saw the interior decor—so similar to her own room—she couldn't suppress her joy.
Her private domain.
From now on, it would be theirs.
Overjoyed, Qin Zhenzhen hugged Lu Ruyun and bounced around, only to be pulled down onto the newly purchased desk. Next to it was a full-length mirror. From the mirror, she saw her own flushed cheeks and seductive, half-lidded eyes. The visual impact made her even more sensitive. She couldn't help but tighten her legs around Lu Ruyun, letting her warm fingers play freely inside her body.
A night of passion and pleasure.
The next morning, Qin Zhenzhen inevitably woke up with sore legs. The Lu Ruyun who had promised not to cause trouble and had just wanted to try the new desk had subsequently dragged her to try the new carpet, the new bay window seat, and the new bed.
Thinking of this, she couldn't help but kick Lu Ruyun with her foot. Her toes touched Lu Ruyun's warm body. Lu Ruyun turned over, her hand resting on Qin Zhenzhen's chest. Qin Zhenzhen couldn't resist grabbing that hand and giving it a hard bite.
Lu Ruyun's hand hurt, and she instinctively tried to pull it back, opening her eyes in confusion. Qin Zhenzhen also rubbed her eyes, asking with concern, "What's wrong?"
"My hand hurts."
Lu Ruyun raised her hand, the teeth marks clearly visible. Qin Zhenzhen suppressed a laugh and replied, "Were you dreaming about eating something? I just saw you bite your own hand."
Her eyes held a mischievous glint, a smile playing on her lips. Lu Ruyun met her bright gaze and paused for a moment. Before Qin Zhenzhen could react, she was pulled into Lu Ruyun's embrace. Lu Ruyun sighed contentedly, holding her. "Does eating you count?"
Qin Zhenzhen's face instantly flushed red. She pushed Lu Ruyun's hand away. "Then you can keep dreaming. I have to go."
Lu Ruyun lay on her side, propping her head up with one hand, watching Qin Zhenzhen search for clothes in the room. Her long hair cascaded freely down her back, bouncing like a sprite. She was only wearing a nightgown, and when she raised her arms, it revealed her straight, slender legs. Qin Zhenzhen grabbed a few pieces of clothing and ran into the bathroom.
By the time Qin Zhenzhen changed, Lu Ruyun had already gone downstairs to make breakfast—simple bread and milk. Qin Zhenzhen ate with a heart full of sweetness. After breakfast, Ji Lu called to ask if she was ready. Qin Zhenzhen thought for a moment and asked Lu Ruyun if she was still going to Zhang Yiyao's place today and if they could go together after she finished filming.
Lu Ruyun shook her head, looking at her rushed appearance. "No need. I'll go by myself. Don't worry."
Qin Zhenzhen wanted to object but couldn't immediately find a reason. She could only nod. "Alright. I'll call you at noon then."
Lu Ruyun agreed, standing at the doorway to see her off.
Once Qin Zhenzhen was in the car, Ji Lu finally turned her gaze away from Lu Ruyun and asked, "Zhenzhen, did you go out with Teacher Lu yesterday?"
As her assistant, she actually hadn't known. How derelict in her duty! She had even gotten an earful from Meng Xin. Thankfully, Zhenzhen was fine, otherwise she'd really be in for it.
Qin Zhenzhen frowned upon hearing her question. "What's wrong?"
Ji Lu handed her the phone. It was yesterday's trending topic, with many photos and videos. She and Lu Ruyun were surrounded by fans, their interactions intimate. There were even later ones of Lu Ruyun grabbing her hand and running away. They were all taken with phones, some not very clear. Looking at the photos on the phone, Qin Zhenzhen felt a pang of annoyance.
Thinking she was upset, Ji Lu quickly took the phone back to console her. "It's okay, Zhenzhen. Actually, Sister Meng was happy when this news came out. Finally, no one's saying you and Teacher Lu are going to divorce anymore."
Qin Zhenzhen pondered for a long moment before muttering to herself, "A miscalculation. I should have done my makeup properly yesterday. And these clothes are downright ugly!"
Ji Lu: ...
She glanced at Qin Zhenzhen, feeling their definitions of "ugly" were completely different.
On Weibo, fans were praising her to the heavens. The comments were a chorus of "beautiful, beautiful, gorgeous," "a fairy descended to earth." How could she see it as ugly?
Ji Lu rubbed her eyes and looked at the photos again.
Hmm. Still very beautiful!
The trending topic on Weibo ultimately didn't manage to climb onto the hot search list. Netizens always glossed over sweet, romantic relationships, only unleashing their increasingly resilient spirits when there was gossip to be had.
Qin Zhenzhen was also happy to be left in peace, burying herself in focused filming.
At noon, she called Lu Ruyun and was stunned to learn she was at the hospital. She hurriedly asked if something was wrong. Lu Ruyun reassured her it was nothing; she was accompanying Zhang Yiyao for a check-up.
Only after hearing she was fine did Qin Zhenzhen relax. She dragged Lu Ruyun into saying a few more sweet nothings before hanging up. Lu Ruyun put away her phone and saw Zhang Yiyao smiling at her. She smiled back slightly. "It was Zhenzhen."
Zhang Yiyao nodded. "Your relationship is really good."
Lu Ruyun lowered her head upon hearing this. "You and Qiuhan are also good."
At the mention of Qiuhan, Zhang Yiyao's face turned somewhat cold, her words carrying a chill. "Ruyun, we're not."
Lu Ruyun was slightly taken aback. She looked at Zhang Yiyao, seeing her expression quite cold, lacking her usual gentleness, her voice conveying something different. She helped her sit on a bench. "What's wrong?"
"What happened between you and Qiuhan?"
Zhang Yiyao looked straight at her, finally dropping the pretense. "Ruyun, I want to break up. I'm too tired. I can't hold on anymore."
She poured out all her negative emotions in one go, becoming more and more agitated as she spoke, her body tense, her features contorted. Seeing her flailing her arms, Lu Ruyun quickly grabbed her hands. "Yaoyao, don't get agitated, don't get agitated. Take deep breaths. It's okay. Everything is okay."
Hearing her gentle comfort, Zhang Yiyao couldn't help but throw herself onto Lu Ruyun, wrapping her arms tightly around her, wailing like a child. "Ruyun! Qiuhan doesn't want me anymore. Are you going to leave me too?"
"I'm so scared..."
Lu Ruyun opened her mouth slightly. Zhang Yiyao's question caught her completely off guard.
Her thoughts instantly returned to a long time ago.
"Ruyun, what do I do? They don't want me anymore. Ruyun, will you be like them and leave me too?"
"Ruyun, I'm so scared. What if you don't want me either?"
"I won't. I won't leave you. We still have to walk out of here together."
"Really? Will you stay with me forever?"
"I will."
A sudden weight interrupted Lu Ruyun's reverie. She looked down. Zhang Yiyao had already fainted, falling asleep. Lu Ruyun hurriedly called Vice Dean Ding. A short while later, the two stood in the corridor.
"What happened? Why are her mood swings so drastic recently?"
Looking at Vice Dean Ding's serious expression, Lu Ruyun thought for a moment and said, "She said she wants to break up with Qiuhan."
"Break up?" Vice Dean Ding frowned. "What's going on?"
Lu Ruyun shook her head. She actually wasn't very clear about the situation between her and Duan Qiuhan.
Seeing this, Vice Dean Ding could only say, "First, soothe her emotions. Don't provoke her recently. If possible, have Qiuhan talk to her. We need to understand the reason to help her resolve this."
Lu Ruyun agreed. "Okay."
After seeing Vice Dean Ding off, Lu Ruyun returned to the hospital room. Zhang Yiyao was still in a light sleep. She thought for a moment and called Duan Qiuhan.
A girl answered the phone, her voice crisp. "Hello?"
Lu Ruyun glanced at her phone and asked quietly, "Is Duan Qiuhan there?"
The girl's voice replied quickly, "I'm sorry, Director Duan is in a meeting. May I ask what this is regarding?"
Lu Ruyun pursed her lips. "Who is this?"
"I'm Director Duan's assistant, Zhao Ke."
Zhao Ke?
Upon hearing this name, Lu Ruyun inexplicably found it familiar. After a few seconds, she remembered—wasn't this the girl who had been pestering Duan Qiuhan before?
Was this the reason Yaoyao wanted to break up?
Lu Ruyun hung up the phone, falling silent.
The atmosphere in the hospital room instantly turned heavy. Lu Ruyun paced to the window, looking at Zhang Yiyao sleeping in the bed. Thinking of those past memories of their time together in the hospital, a weight pressed down on her chest, making it hard to breathe, an intensely uncomfortable feeling.
A good while later, her phone buzzed with vibration. She picked it up to look. The screen displayed Zhenzhen's name.
—Have you gone back yet?
Seeing her name, the irritation Lu Ruyun had felt moments ago was swept away. Those simple four words were like sunlight piercing into her dark world, brightening her entire heart.
She lowered her head to reply: Not yet. Something happened with Yaoyao.
Within seconds, Qin Zhenzhen called. Her voice was low. "What's wrong? What happened?"
Lu Ruyun smiled, hearing the familiar sound of a flushing toilet on her end. "Are you in the bathroom again?"
Qin Zhenzhen paused, remembering Lu Ruyun thought this was a bad habit, and replied somewhat guiltily, "I can only use going to the bathroom as an excuse to call you."
After saying this, she added with a touch of grievance, "Since you don't want to hear my voice, I'll hang up."
"Zhenzhen." Lu Ruyun's voice was light, warmth bubbling up in her heart. Her body gradually grew warmer, the corners of her eyes slightly red. "I miss you."
Qin Zhenzhen bit her lip. Her first reaction to these words wasn't shyness. Instead, she asked, "Is something wrong?"
Though Lu Ruyun often said she missed her or liked her normally, the feeling was completely different. The way Lu Ruyun said it now felt like someone who had been floating on water for a long time finally finding a piece of driftwood—that feeling of being on the brink of death and finding the only hope.
The feeling Lu Ruyun gave her right now was exactly that.
Qin Zhenzhen was worried. She quickly said, "Are you still at the hospital? Should I come find you later?"
As soon as she said it, she bit her tongue. They were nearing the final wrap-up, and the crew was incredibly busy. It was impossible for her to leave at this time. But she was very worried about Lu Ruyun.
Lu Ruyun comforted her. "No need. I just contacted Shuangshuang. She'll be here soon."
Qin Zhenzhen could only say, "Okay."
She hung up, biting her fingernails as she sat on the toilet. Recalling the few times she had met Zhang Yiyao, it seemed each time reminded Lu Ruyun of unpleasant memories. Thinking of this, Qin Zhenzhen felt somewhat uncomfortable and sent Lu Ruyun a message.
—Ruyun, if I don't want you to see Miss Zhang anymore, would that be too selfish?
After sending it, she looked at the page, feeling she was truly selfish. She had said she would respect her friendships, not interfere with her freedom. And now she was forcing Lu Ruyun to make a choice?
Qin Zhenzhen thought for a few seconds and recalled the message.
On the other end of the phone, Lu Ruyun, who had seen the message but hadn't had time to reply, watched as it was withdrawn. Another, more innocuous message was sent.
—Sent the wrong message! I'll come over after I finish filming [cute].
Lu Ruyun rubbed her thumb against the screen and put away her phone.
