WS - Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Song Shiyue first locked the door and windows, then hung one small silver bowl on the door handle and two on the window locks. That was it.

To be honest, it was very simple to use; it was just that Yu Nianbing hadn't thought of it for a moment.

"See, I'm not always thinking about eating, am I?" Song Shiyue leaned against the windowsill and laughed.

Earlier, Yu Nianbing had guessed three times without straying from the word 'eat.' Song Shiyue was not unaware of her own image in Yu Nianbing's mind. Now that she had a chance to turn the tables, she couldn't help but be smug, her brows and eyes full of delight.

Look at you, so proud...

Yu Nianbing silently grumbled in her heart, but only nodded and didn't say anything more.

Let this little girl be happy. Just think of it as having an extra joyous decoration in the room tonight; it wasn't unpleasant to look at.

Actually, it was far from unpleasant.

Yu Nianbing lowered her head to open the box, but the corners of her mouth were raised.

It was getting late, and they had to wake up early the next day. After saying a few words, the two began to prepare to wash up and rest.

Here it must be mentioned that since they boarded the spaceship to Beichen Planet and handed over their StarNet terminals, they had been issued wristbands.

The wristbands worn by the artists and the other staff who came to Wilderness Planet for filming had some simple functions. Of course, they couldn't compare to Director Zhang's, which had many functions and could even control the camera central control system. However, they were sufficient to handle certain special situations during the 24-hour filming.

Among them were those times at least a few times a day when handling personal matters, when washing up like now, or later when going to sleep.

Touting a 24-hour livestream, they would never transmit these absolutely unbroadcastable things onto StarNet.

In fact, to protect the artists' privacy, when they needed to deal with these unairable matters, they could press the privacy shield button on the wristband. One press would shield for five minutes; when it counted down to thirty seconds, the wristband would emit a sound reminder, and they could press again to extend it by another five minutes.

During the shielding period, the cameras automatically captured the person as a rectangular silver-white mosaic. Not only would this not appear on StarNet, but the cameras themselves, under the shielding effect, actually produced this silver-white mosaic image. Moreover, this mosaic covered the whole person and extended to the surrounding area. At most, viewers could see this large blob of mosaic moving or where it moved to, but they couldn't see what the person inside was doing.

Furthermore, so far, the doors of the bathrooms in the spaceship and the old castle were registered in StarNet's intelligent recognition. As long as a person pressed the shield after entering the bathroom, their livestream window would only stay showing the bathroom door.

Of course, if an artist forgot to press the shield button and some private images were captured by the cameras, under StarNet's intelligent protection, the cameras would quickly stop recording, and the captured content would not be uploaded to the livestream page. Naturally, Director Zhang's controller wouldn't be able to see it either.

This could be considered layer upon layer of privacy protection for the participants.

Thus, every night, there were especially many mosaic windows on the livestream page.

At times like this, viewers would also go rest and do something else. After all, they had washed up and sleep would follow; there wouldn't be much interesting to see.

But tonight seemed a little different.

To be precise, from the moment Song Shiyue suggested sleeping together with Yu Nianbing at the stairway entrance, the two's livestream pages exploded.

Just as Yu Nianbing immediately realized, the moment that suggestion left her mouth, the livestream page was nearly flooded with danmaku condemning Song Shiyue.

If not for the financial group backing them this time, with the best website and everything, this wave of activity might have frozen both livestream channels.

If there was one thing Yu Nianbing's fans hated the most over the years, it had to be those who 'confessed' to her. They didn't believe those people's sincerity, and in fact, those people had repeatedly proven they had no sincerity at all.

Song Shiyue was naturally one of the people they hated.

Plus, when The Wilderness Journey livestream page went online and announced the six participating artists, they guessed that the production team wanted to ship CPs, and Song Shiyue wanted to ship a CP.

As expected, here it came.

The Wilderness Journey hadn't even officially started yet! And she was already trying to ship a CP!

Of course, later Yu Nianbing actively admitted she was scared and Song Shiyue had seen through it. That somewhat calmed the fans a little. But unfortunately, adding oil to a raging fire — how could it be put out with just a slight cooling? Most of the fans were still very, very angry.

And many of them regretted it.

These past two days, watching Yu Nianbing and Song Shiyue interact normally, and Song Shiyue being that kind of hardworking, big-eating yet delicately pretty little girl, they gradually softened their hearts and even began to find it somewhat cute.

They never expected that this goodwill was truly but a fleeting illusion!

To actually want to sleep with their Little Ice Block! What audacity!

It had to be said, fans' love was sometimes a bit extreme.

Although after Yu Nianbing admitted her fear, fans could understand Song Shiyue's suggestion to sleep together, they were still angry.

If it had been someone else, whether it was Ning Chuyang or that little director's assistant, they would also have been angry, but not to this degree.

Ultimately, it was just that everyone hadn't forgotten the 'good deed' Song Shiyue did six months ago.

Of course, Song Shiyue also had fans, though both in quantity and quality, they were worlds apart from Yu Nianbing's.

The livestream pages of the two were instantly occupied by Yu Nianbing's fans, like a crusading army. Not to mention Song Shiyue's few fans, even passersby could only tremble and shrink to the side, not daring to utter a word on Song Shiyue's behalf.

Later, when Song Shiyue took Yu Nianbing to the basement, where a miserable cry rang out, Song Shiyue quickly pulled Yu Nianbing to the wall, forcefully kicked open the basement door, and then shielded Yu Nianbing while standing to the side — a series of swift and somewhat cool movements that at least made the danmaku cursing her... slow down a bit.

Some brave Song Shiyue fans seized the moment to post a couple of praising danmaku.

Although they were soon drowned in the danmaku scolding Song Shiyue, at least no one singled out those two comments to attack.

So the suppressed Song Shiyue fans finally relaxed a little.

The mainstream, of course, continued to watch Song Shiyue getting scolded.

But the hatred had reasons and causes.

With reasons, it wasn't just pure hatred.

From supporting each other in the dim corridor, to waiting at the half-open door, to hanging up the three small silver bowls one by one.

Yu Nianbing's fans still hated Song Shiyue for riding on their Little Ice Block's coattails, but the danmaku scolding Song Shiyue gradually decreased a little.

But that was only relative.

During the time when Yu Nianbing and Song Shiyue were mosaicked in turn, the livestream pages, which should have seen a sharp drop in viewers and quieted down, remained bustling.

Even after Song Shiyue went next door, brought back a blanket, the two lay down, and the lights were turned off, the livestream page was still tightly packed with people.

The bustle on StarNet was naturally unknown to the two sleeping.

Yu Nianbing could guess a bit, though she hadn't imagined it would be the kind of scene where danmaku filled the screen almost freezing the page. Unfortunately, even if she could guess, there was very little she could do now. Admitting her fear and agreeing to sleep with Song Shiyue were both choices Yu Nianbing thought might reduce the negative impact of Song Shiyue's suggestion.

She just didn't know if it would have any effect...

Deep night, slightly cool.

Yu Nianbing curled up under the blanket but felt no sleepiness.

Unfamiliar surroundings, unfamiliar scent, a soft, spacious but unfamiliar bed...

Yu Nianbing deeply regretted accepting that script a few days ago, and even more so habitually looking up similar materials and ghost stories to read. Now, whatever she saw reminded her of things she'd rather not think about...

After being in the dark for a while, her eyes adjusted, and from the total blackness, she gradually made out the outlines of the surrounding furniture. And beyond the tightly drawn curtains, dim and shadowy, as if...

Yu Nianbing quickly shut her eyes, trying to interrupt her thoughts. But with little success; her mind racing, she couldn't help gradually tensing up.

Stop thinking, stop thinking...

Yu Nianbing silently chanted in her heart, then somewhat stiffly turned over, from facing the window to facing Song Shiyue.

Thankfully, the bed in this bedroom was large enough that with two sleeping, there was still plenty of space between them, somewhat reducing the awkwardness of sleeping together.

However...

Yu Nianbing opened her eyes and looked at the little girl right before her, lying flat, breathing steadily as if already in dreamland. In the darkness, she looked somewhat blurry. It should have been an image that triggered many bad associations, yet Yu Nianbing only felt a bit reassured.

With so much strength in that little girl, if anything happened, she could just punch one away.

Thinking this, Yu Nianbing almost wanted to laugh.

But unexpectedly, just as Yu Nianbing gradually relaxed her mind, she heard sounds in front of her.

"Hoo... hoo... don't be afraid... hoo... I'll protect you... ruuuumble... you... hoo... ruuum... blebleble..."

When Song Shiyue made the first sound, Yu Nianbing thought it was the start of snoring. If not for worrying that she wasn't asleep yet and the cameras would pick up the sound, she almost burst out laughing.

But after hearing the whole thing, she realized that wasn't the case.

These 'hoos' and 'ruumbles' were so fake they were hard to keep listening to.

In the darkness, Yu Nianbing swallowed her laughter and spoke in a flat voice: "The wristband monitors your physical state. Until you're really asleep, even if you're pretending, the sound will be picked up."

The snoring sounds, which had been rising and falling, stopped abruptly.

Yu Nianbing buried her face in the pillow for a moment to hold back her laugh.

When she came out from the pillow and looked again, the little girl was lying perfectly straight, still as if she had fallen asleep again.

Regarding such an amusing matter, Yu Nianbing didn't pursue it further. Instead, after Song Shiyue's little disturbance, Yu Nianbing felt much more relaxed, and sleepiness crept up.

But just then, the window suddenly blazed brightly.

Yu Nianbing, whose eyes were still open, was startled by the flash of bright light. Terrified, a flood of images surged in her mind, and she couldn't even utter a cry.

"It's nothing!" The feigning-sleep girl instantly flipped up and shielded Yu Nianbing.

Yu Nianbing couldn't help reaching out and grabbing Song Shiyue's wrist, then turned to look at the window.

The light outside didn't last long. Before Song Shiyue could get up to check, it quickly faded, then became a shrinking point of light on the curtain.

Yu Nianbing realized what it was.

"That was the spaceship that brought us here. It's leaving." Yu Nianbing let out a huge sigh of relief, released Song Shiyue's wrist, and her tense body relaxed again. "We'll be filming on Wilderness Planet for over ten days, so of course it wouldn't stay parked here the whole time."

Wilderness Planet was still in an unopened state, and it was said that part of the development wasn't fully completed. Naturally, it wasn't included in the interstellar routes. This spaceship was probably rented by the production team, so it certainly wouldn't sit idle here for over ten days. When they had disembarked earlier, Yu Nianbing had seen what seemed like an aircraft not far from the spaceship. That was likely the transportation they would use later.

"Ah!" Song Shiyue suddenly let out a cry as if just realizing something, and quickly shrank back under the blanket.

"What's wrong?" This time, Yu Nianbing sat up.

Unfortunately, before Yu Nianbing could steady herself, Song Shiyue's hand reached out from the bedding and yanked her back down onto the bed. Then came a blanket thrown over her head and face. It carried a hint of childish milky fragrance... Song Shiyue's blanket...

"Song Shiyue!" Half of Yu Nianbing's body was covered by Song Shiyue's blanket, and she felt inexplicably nervous. When she spoke again, her tone was somewhat stern.

"I didn't turn on the shield, and you didn't either, right? We're still in pajamas, don't sit up." Flustered, Song Shiyue pulled Yu Nianbing's blanket over her, then tried to pull back her own, muttering, "I don't know if we were caught on camera just now... I hope everyone is asleep..."

Understanding the situation, Yu Nianbing, still smothered in Song Shiyue's blanket, was once again caught between amusement and exasperation. She vaguely reached out to push away both Song Shiyue and her blanket.

But clearly, Yu Nianbing had forgotten Song Shiyue's strength.

Her push failed, and instead she was further smothered; Yu Nianbing had no temper left.

"Okay, stop fussing. When we turned off the lights and prepared to sleep, the cameras could only capture our shadow mosaics. From lights out at night until six in the morning, it's only mosaics and sound, remember? After falling asleep, the wristband detects the sleep state and even mutes the sound until you wake up. Didn't you read the wristband manual carefully?" Yu Nianbing finally pushed away Song Shiyue's hand and the blanket off her face, couldn't help sitting up, and shoved the little girl who had withdrawn her hand and was pretending to sleep again. "Don't sleep yet, get up and read the wristband manual once more! We're entering the forest tomorrow; we can't afford any mishaps then."

Song Shiyue: "...I did read it. Didn't it say they would also film at night, in case we go on night walks?"

"You didn't activate sleep mode?" Yu Nianbing's voice was somewhat shocked.

Song Shiyue seemed to have a sudden realization: "Oh, right, sleep mode. Okay, I've activated it now." Then she exclaimed, "Then just now I..."

Yu Nianbing fell silent. She opened her mouth to ask something, but then, remembering the cameras in the room, swallowed her words back.

The room instantly quieted down, then some rustling sounds began.

Just as Song Shiyue was about to speak, she felt Yu Nianbing reach her hand into the bedding on her side, and then...
