DDT - Chapter 148

Chapter 148: Immortal Venerable × Meow Meow Cat (3)

She would teach her well. She had plenty of time to wait for this child to grow up, to wait for the next time the Xingyun Pavilion opened. Then, with the power of the pavilion's celestial treasure, she could divine whether this child was her Fated Person.

If she wasn't, then she would simply resume her travels, wandering across the entire Nine Nether Profound Sky. She was bound to find that Fated Person eventually.

It wasn't that she had some great obsession with picking up children; it was that her intuition, honed by her ninth-layer Nascent Soul cultivation, told her that when she met her Fated Person, they would still be a child.

Perhaps the child had been too frightened. Immortal Venerable Qingyun guarded her bedside for three days before the frail-looking child on the bed gradually stirred. Looking at the skinny little girl, Immortal Venerable Qingyun thought to herself that the child didn't seem much like her name, Chi Jun. To suffer so much at such a young age was truly heartbreaking.

The moment Immortal Venerable Qingyun considered that this child might be her Fated Person, perhaps the ill-fated woman from her dreams, she couldn't help but feel a surge of pity.

Thus, when Chi Junluo slowly regained consciousness in this body and opened her eyes, the first thing she saw was Immortal Venerable Qingyun's gaze, filled with heartache and loving compassion. Chi Junluo blinked blankly, wondering if she had gotten the script wrong. Why did she get the feeling that the heroine wanted to be her mother?

Chi Junluo and Immortal Venerable Qingyun stared at each other in a daze for a good while before she belatedly realized what she was supposed to be doing.

And so, Immortal Venerable Qingyun watched as the child named Chi Jun's expression slowly shifted from confusion to vigilance.

Could it be that her own beauty had made the child lower her guard? Immortal Venerable Qingyun's "old" face secretly flushed red. She quickly restored her ice-mountain demeanor. The change was so fast that even Chi Junluo, who was staring right at her, didn't catch it. Immortal Venerable Qingyun resolved that she absolutely could not break her aloof, ice-mountain persona, especially not in front of Chi Jun, who was about to become her personal disciple.

Chi Junluo had no idea what this heroine was thinking. Seeing the heroine's eyes lose focus slightly, she couldn't help but wonder if the heroine of this world suffered from some sort of senile dementia or amnesia. After all, she had lived for over a thousand years; she was truly getting on in age.

Evidently, Chi Junluo had forgotten the fact that the body she now inhabited was a thousand years older than the heroine.

Chi Junluo maintained her vigilant gaze and tense posture, sitting propped up on the bed without moving for what felt like half a day.

The heroine still hadn't returned to her senses, deeply lost in her own world. Chi Junluo could feel the right hand supporting her body going numb.

It wasn't until a rumbling sound came from Chi Junluo's frail body that the heroine's thoughts were pulled back to the present.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun came to. She looked at the little cub before her, whose stomach was growling with hunger, yet still maintained a wary, silent stare. It seemed this child's defenses were quite strong.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun wasted no more time and waved her long sleeve. A small round table appeared not far from the bed. With another wave of her other sleeve, a feast of delicacies materialized on the table. The food seemed as if it had just come out of the oven, its aroma wafting through the air. Chi Junluo caught the sweet scent and couldn't help but lick her lips. Her vigilant gaze involuntarily shifted to the table of food.

It wasn't that she was a glutton. Chi Junluo felt like she had slept for a very, very long time after the last world ended. It had been too long, far too long, since she had eaten anything. Moreover, this was a feast of rare delicacies, and her current body was in desperate need of energy. Perhaps she should go over and have a good meal right now. But she was still supposed to be maintaining a wary persona. Wouldn't it be a bit spineless to just walk over like that?

Chi Junluo didn't even realize that she had unconsciously slipped into the identity of the Nine-Tailed Cat Clan in this world.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun watched the conflicted child on the bed, a smile she couldn't suppress blooming in her eyes. She felt she hadn't picked up the wrong person this time; this child was far more interesting than her eldest disciple.

The Heavenly Dao, hiding in Chi Junluo's sea of consciousness, looked at the conflicted and greedy-faced Chi Junluo, then at the heroine a few steps away, whose doting aunt-like smile was about to break through her composure, and sighed softly.

This was a world of cultivation, filled with powerful spiritual energy, several tiers higher than its own original world. Although the power of this world's Heavenly Dao was certainly no match for a first-generation Heavenly Dao like itself, there was no getting around the fact that this world was more advanced. A cultivation world full of powerful beings like this had an exceptionally strong ability to patch up loopholes. It and Chi Junluo absolutely could not be discovered by this world's consciousness.

Since arriving in this body, Chi Junluo's personality had changed drastically, showing a subtle tendency to merge with the body's original nature. This alone was enough to demonstrate the power of this world. The Heavenly Dao had a few theories. If it weren't for the special nature of Chi Junluo's soul, anyone else who came to this world in this manner would have likely been assimilated by it long ago. The Heavenly Dao thought about Chi Junluo's true identity and felt it was probably overthinking things, so it didn't voice its concerns to her.

Outside, the two individuals, unaware that their personas had already crumbled in the eyes of the Heavenly Dao, continued their silent standoff. In the end, Chi Junluo's body couldn't resist the temptation of the food. She averted her gaze, turned her head to the side, and threw the blanket off. She jumped off the bed barefoot and rushed to the table in a few quick steps. Immortal Venerable Qingyun raised an eyebrow in amusement and, with a wave of her hand, a small stool appeared right under Chi Junluo's bottom. Chi Junluo didn't stand on ceremony; she knew the heroine meant her no harm. So she plopped right down. Whether intentionally or not, she ignored the bowl and chopsticks on the table, reached out, and tore off a piece of roasted chicken, burying her head in it as she began to eat.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun found the best vantage point in the room and, with a wave of her hand, a wooden post rose from the floor.

The Immortal Venerable leaned against the post, watching the child eat without blinking.

She had to admit, the way she ate was truly appetizing. Immortal Venerable Qingyun, who had abstained from food for several hundred years, couldn't help but secretly swallow a mouthful of saliva.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun hadn't even realized how extraordinarily relaxed she was in front of this child. Her persona had shattered again and again; her aloof, ice-mountain image had turned to dust. Right now, all she wanted to do was smile like a doting aunt.

In just half an hour, Chi Junluo was full. She let out a soft burp, wiped her face with her hand, then brought her hand in front of her. Just as she was about to open her mouth and lick it, she suddenly realized what a strange thing she was about to do. Sensing the heroine's gaze still fixed on her, she felt she couldn't let the heroine become suspicious of her identity. So, she rubbed that hand on her face again.

The more Immortal Venerable Qingyun looked at this child named Chi Jun, the more she liked her, and the cuter she found her. As for Chi Junluo's slightly odd behavior just now, the Immortal Venerable didn't find anything amiss. In her eyes, it was probably just a child messily wiping their face after eating. Seeing Chi Jun's face was a bit smudged, Immortal Venerable Qingyun snapped her fingers, and a cleaning spell landed on Chi Junluo. The greasy shine on the child's face vanished, and the little stray-cat face turned back into that fair, clean, skinny, and pretty child.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun waved her hand, clearing the table away. She walked over to Chi Junluo, who had already stood up, and was about to take her hand, but the child reflexively took a step back, a trace of panic and anger in her eyes.

Immortal Venerable Qingyun was a bit baffled. She simply chalked it up to a child's rebellious phase and didn't think much of it. She used a spell to directly lift Chi Junluo over, holding her in her arms. With a light tap of her foot, she leaped out of the roofless wooden hut and landed on a simple, ancient flying sword, heading east.

Along the way, Chi Jun, in her arms, was trembling slightly. Immortal Venerable Qingyun assumed it was just a child's fear of heights. Little did she know that Chi Junluo, nestled in the heroine's embrace, was desperately trying to suppress the rage welling up from within this body.

That's right, she was trembling with anger. This body had a serious grudge against white clothes!

As Chi Junluo struggled to control the body's fury, she thought with sorrow, if her heroine only ever wore white clothes for the rest of her life, how were they ever going to be intimate…?

Each lost in their own thoughts, the flying sword soon came to a stop on Xianyuan Peak, the main peak of the Xianyuan Sect. As they landed, Immortal Venerable Qingyun felt Chi Junluo trying to escape her embrace. How could she allow that? How could she, the great Immortal Venerable Qingyun, let a little brat slip through her fingers? If this child truly was her Fated Person, and a rift formed between them at such a young age, what would happen when she grew up?!

Thus, Immortal Venerable Qingyun held the child's hand firmly and led her toward the Myriad Mirror Array behind the Hall of Immortals.

The Myriad Mirror Array on the main peak of the Xianyuan Sect was a mandatory step for all new disciples. It could reveal a person's true nature. If the person was a demon or monster below the Spirit Transformation stage, they would immediately revert to their original form. If they had improper thoughts or had done wicked deeds, a layer of gray mist would appear on their body. If the mist was thin, it could be slowly cleansed through cultivation. If the mist was thick, they would lose the qualification to enter the Xianyuan Sect. If there was blood mist, they would be executed on the spot.

Besides revealing one's nature, the Myriad Mirror Array could also display a prospective disciple's cultivation aptitude.

Before stepping into the Myriad Mirror Array, the Heavenly Dao had already explained its function to Chi Junluo.

Chi Junluo was slightly worried that this body's true form would be exposed, but the Heavenly Dao immediately reassured her. The Nine-Tailed Cat was a divine beast, not a demonic one, and this body's strength had long surpassed the Spirit Transformation stage. There was no need to worry.

After stepping into the array, Chi Junluo turned to look back at the heroine, but instead, a tall man with the words "Male Protagonist" shining in brilliant, blinding gold above his head burst into her line of sight.

The "male protagonist" of this world, Yun Qian, had actually appeared so early!
