CSGM - Chapter 76

Chapter 76: So Comfortable

It wasn't Sister Zhi's voice. Someone else answered the phone, and the moment Xiao Ju heard the voice, her mind buzzed and went blank.

A second later, Chu Xi calmly asked, "Who is this?"

Xiao Ju: "I'm Sister Zhi's assistant."

Chu Xi glanced at the contact name on her phone. "Wei Yiju?"

"Mm-hmm..."

Judging by the name, she was a young girl, and her voice confirmed it—timid and soft, answering whatever was asked.

Since she was Ren Zhi's assistant, Chu Xi explained, "I'm Chu Xi. She wasn't feeling well when she got back, so I brought her to her room. She's already cleaned up and gone to sleep. If you need anything, just talk to her tomorrow."

"Oh, okay..."

Only after Chu Xi hung up did Xiao Ju slowly process what had just happened.

She hadn't finished asking her questions!

Whose room did Sister Zhi go back to?

Whose bed was she sleeping in?

Chu Xi was right beside her. Did anything happen between them?

Xiao Ju's mind began to race, filled with dangerous questions. She panicked. After all, Chu Xi was her boss's rumored partner!

The night was quiet.

After hanging up, Chu Xi wrapped her arm around Ren Zhi's waist and held her other hand.

Ren Zhi's waist was so slender that one of her arms could easily encircle it. Her other hand was soft and warm from being under the covers, and Chu Xi greedily caressed it, savoring the feeling.

Touching Ren Zhi like this felt like hugging a beloved stuffed animal to sleep as a child. It was so comfortable.

Although she wasn't fluffy, the feeling of warm, fragrant, and soft jade was also wonderful. The last time, in the tent on the show, they had each slept under their own blankets. She hadn't had the chance to enjoy this kind of close contact.

Chu Xi stroked the other woman's smooth arm; it was completely warm.

She then buried her head in Ren Zhi's hair, inhaling the fragrance of her strands.

Ren Zhi's long, thick, curly eyelashes covered her beautiful peach blossom eyes, like some kind of seal that locked away half of her charm and allure. But an indelible half remained, lingering at the corners of her eyes, which were shaped like crescent moons, making one desperately want to open Pandora's box and take a look inside.

After putting the phone down, Chu Xi couldn't sleep. Her fingers lightly traced the outline of Ren Zhi's ear, playfully tucking her hair behind it and then letting it fall again.

She felt as if she were reading and understanding a kind of porcelain beauty in the night.

It had a classical charm, a bright appearance, graceful lines, a lingering aura, and a layer of fragile thinness and beauty.

—All of this, Chu Xi appreciated to the fullest while Ren Zhi slept.

Indeed, when a woman was truly beautiful, men didn't even stand a chance.

No wonder Chu Xi had never been able to see what was so handsome about any man. It seemed it wasn't a problem with her aesthetic taste, but a problem with the men she had met. How many of them could compare to Ren Zhi in terms of features, aura, or skin quality?

Ren Zhi deserved to be a top-tier star.

The corners of Chu Xi's lips curled up slightly. Her mood was light in the darkness of the night. With one hand tucked behind her head, the other roamed over her human-shaped pillow—so comfortable.

It turned out Ren Zhi wasn't just stunning at first sight; she was also enduringly beautiful. The more you looked, the prettier she became.

This texture... her skin was as smooth as a baby's. She must spend a lot of money on maintenance every month, right?

She was a celebrity, after all...

Chu Xi hummed softly to herself as her thoughts drifted.

In the middle of the night, Ren Zhi had a nightmare about being at a business party, a groper's hand sticking to her and causing trouble.

She was both physically and psychologically disgusted by those fat-headed, big-eared capitalists and powerful figures. She would always refuse them.

Over the years, she had rejected countless casting-couch propositions and, as a result, had lost many resources she'd had her eye on.

But in her dream, she couldn't do as she pleased. Someone was groping her all over, and her brows were knitted so tightly they almost locked.

Agitated and half-awake, Ren Zhi still felt a hand roaming over her body.

And someone was softly singing a song she had never heard before—

"How many people once admired your youthful face..."

"How many people have come and gone in your life, but know that for a lifetime, I will be by your side..."

Ren Zhi woke with a start!

After a sharp "Ah!" pierced the air—

A dull thud and a pained hiss drawn through clenched teeth sounded at the same time.

Chu Xi hadn't expected to be kicked out of bed in the blink of an eye.

The pain shot from her tailbone to her waist. Ren Zhi really wasn't afraid of killing her!

As for Ren Zhi, after kicking the person away, she shot up in bed, instinctively pulling the blanket up to cover her body.

It was dark all around.

In those two seconds, she recalled countless scenes from her career, from her debut to her current struggles—

There was the time someone secretly drugged her drink, which she discovered.

There was the time someone tried to touch her, and after she dodged them, they berated her and had her kicked off the set.

There was the time someone left a hotel room key in her bag and smiled at her.

And there were many more blatant power-for-sex transactions and ugly, leering faces.

Ren Zhi's temples throbbed. No matter what others might think, she knew she had kept herself clean to get to this point. She despised those nightmares!

She fumbled for the wall and switched on the light. As the familiar sight of her room came into view, the heart that had leaped into her throat began to settle.

Then she quickly looked down at the floor—

Why was it Chu Xi?

"Ah..." She came back to her senses, slowly letting out a breath of relief.

Thank goodness it was Chu Xi.

Chu Xi sat on the floor, holding her lower back and grimacing at her.

"Ren Zhi, that kick was more impressive than a martial arts instructor's."

"Were you touching me just now?" Ren Zhi asked, urgently concerned about this question.

"Ah... yeah..."

What's the big deal about a little touch? It's not like she lost a piece of flesh. Why such a huge reaction?

Ren Zhi let out a long sigh.

She almost thought she was being... what a headache!

She looked down at the resentful-looking Chu Xi on the floor and frowned. "Are you okay?"

With that, she threw back the covers to get down and help Chu Xi up, but as soon as her feet touched the ground, she couldn't even stand steady, stumbling as her head spun.

Chu Xi scrambled up and quickly pushed her back onto the bed, lifting her feet back under the covers. "Don't get up, you'll catch a cold."

Ren Zhi stared at her, a look of confusion on her face.

Her brain had just woken up and was suddenly flooded with too much unexpected information. For a moment, Ren Zhi didn't even know what to ask first.

Seeing her dazed expression, Chu Xi knew she wasn't sober yet and that her head was likely heavy. She asked, "Does your head hurt?"

Ren Zhi murmured, "A little..."

"Wait here, I'll get you some water."

Chu Xi poured her a cup of warm water she had kept in a thermos and handed it to her. As Ren Zhi took it, her eyes were still veiled in a fog-like confusion.

She stared at Chu Xi's clothes.

Ren Zhi asked, "Are you wearing your own clothes?"

It looked a lot like one of her own outfits...

"No, they're yours," Chu Xi said before she could finish her thought, pointing to the closet behind the bed. "I found them in there."

Ren Zhi's brow twitched. "Why are you wearing my clothes?"

Chu Xi looked at her, amused, and after a moment, she laughed out loud.

Why?

"You threw up on my clothes, didn't you know? I had nothing to wear, so I had to borrow something of yours."

Threw up... on Chu Xi?

Ren Zhi quickly covered her mouth, breathed into her hand, and sniffed.

Chu Xi reached out, took her hand away, and smiled. "I already brushed your teeth for you. It's fragrant."

Ren Zhi froze for a moment.

Just then, her memories came flooding back, and she recalled the scene of Chu Xi finding her in the restroom.

It seemed Chu Xi had brought her back.

And Chu Xi had taken care of her again.

She felt that Chu Xi was a little too good to her, to the point where she was starting to feel unworthy.

"Thanks... I drank a bit too much tonight. Sorry to trouble you."

"No trouble. I also mopped up the puddle of vomit you left at the door. No one will know tomorrow."

Even though Chu Xi said it was no trouble, she still had to list her accomplishments.

"I washed your face, too. I was afraid you'd throw up again in the night and choke to death, so I stayed here to sleep with you."

Ren Zhi nodded. "I'm fine now."

Chu Xi still climbed back into bed, squeezing into the covers. "Can you move over a bit?"

Ren Zhi looked at her. "???"

Chu Xi said matter-of-factly, "I'm not fine. My butt hurts from that fall. You have to let me rest for a bit, right?"

This woman... as soon as she's okay, she wants to kick me out. Is she heartless or what?

Chu Xi wasn't having it.

"Okay, I'm sorry. How about I take a look for you? See if you're hurt anywhere?"

Ren Zhi shifted to the side, looking a little worried as her gaze drifted toward Chu Xi's backside.

Chu Xi tucked herself in with the blanket. "It's nothing serious, probably just bruised. Let's sleep."

Ren Zhi lay down for a moment, but just as Chu Xi was about to turn off the light, she suddenly sat up again and stopped her. "Wait a second."

She leaned over Chu Xi, grabbed her phone from the bedside table, opened WeChat, and downloaded a file her assistant Xiao Ju had sent, then began to look it over.

"What are you still looking at? It's time to sleep," Chu Xi urged.

"Shh... you go to sleep first," Ren Zhi replied coolly, her eyes fixed on the screen, as if annoyed that Chu Xi was being noisy.

I give up...

Even without looking intentionally, Chu Xi could see the framework of an Excel spreadsheet and knew she was looking at work information.

What an absolutely peerless... workhorse.

She couldn't help but ask Ren Zhi, "You earn so much money, can you even spend it all?"

Given Ren Zhi's popularity over the past few years, she had to have a nine-figure net worth. Maybe even more. With her workload, ten figures seemed more likely.

"If you want to spend money, you can always spend it all," Ren Zhi said.

"Are you buying a rocket?" Chu Xi asked.

"Can't afford it," Ren Zhi replied, as if they were playing a rapid-fire quiz, her mind primarily on the spreadsheet Xiao Ju had sent.

After she finished and put her phone down, she finally explained to Chu Xi, "I have to establish my own business. It's different from being an artist signed to an agency. I have to rely on myself for everything. The money you think I have could be gone after just a few productions."

Chu Xi found this interesting. "You're quite ambitious."

Ren Zhi smiled without answering. She didn't mind Chu Xi knowing she was ambitious.

Being independent was always better than relying on others. To put it bluntly, if she hadn't been so tough all these years, she didn't know how many times she would have been forced to sleep with someone.

Even now, people still had designs on her. If she didn't become independent and strong, with so much time still ahead, how could she possibly hold on to her throne as a top-tier star all by herself?

Chu Xi recalled some of the fans' comments about Ren Zhi... her reputation for being career-focused was truly well-deserved.

"So, is your company established yet?" she asked, gossiping.

"It's not a company yet, just a studio," Ren Zhi replied.

Once it reached the company stage, she would probably have to sign other artists, and things would become even more complicated.

"Well, is your studio short on funds? How about I be your investor?" Chu Xi blinked, proposing the idea to Ren Zhi.

Ren Zhi sized her up, looking amused as she asked, "Do you have money?"

Chu Xi thought about her bank account balance, scratched her nose, and said, "Five million..."

As expected, the moment the words left her mouth, Ren Zhi burst out laughing.
