DDT - Chapter 84

Chapter 84: Female Ghost × Little Pitiful One (14)

After his wife failed to answer several calls, Wang Mingcheng finally managed to calm down a little.

When the call finally connected, he heard his wife's voice on the other end, still thick with sleep and a bit nasal. Wang Mingcheng managed to suppress his anger and said coldly, his voice low, "Ah Yu, your son is in trouble. He's at Chang City Third Hospital. Get over here."

Without waiting for her reply, he hung up.

The Yellow-haired Man's mother was now wide awake. She stared at the disconnected call, bewildered, replaying her husband's strange attitude in her mind. Whenever their son got into trouble, Wang Mingcheng was always the most anxious one. Why was he so cold today? And his wording was so bizarre—what did he mean, "your son"?

She put down her phone, washed up, and quickly applied some light makeup. Only then did she have time to check WeChat.

Several of her friends had sent her a barrage of messages. She casually tapped on one, and what she saw made her freeze.

The incident involving the Yellow-haired Man was still blowing up online, remaining at the top of the trending topics. At one point, fans had managed to push two celebrities onto the list, only for them to be besieged by netizens. The popular young actress, accused of profiting from a tragedy, was so frightened she posted a public apology on behalf of her fans. Only then did the netizens, who were closely following the Chang City serial killer case, let them off.

As the special investigation team sent from the central government made progress, the original chief of the Chang City Public Security Bureau was found to have colluded with the Wang Family. He had accepted numerous bribes and used his position to suppress cases involving the Yellow-haired Man's gang on multiple occasions.

A judge from the Chang City First Intermediate People's Court was implicated in gang-related activities and bribery. Just over a month ago, he had ruled in a "manslaughter case" involving the Yellow-haired Man, acquitting him on the grounds of a mental illness episode. To avoid the negative attention, the Wang Family had sent the Yellow-haired Man to stay at the Third Hospital for a while.

Through investigative journalism, deeper secrets were unearthed. This was not the first time the family had cleaned up his messes. Furthermore, Wang Mingcheng, the chairman of Wang Corporation, had repeatedly sent people to threaten and beat the victims' families…

After the news report was published, Wang Corporation was almost instantly engulfed in a storm of public outrage.

Wang Mingcheng had turned off his phone. He sat downstairs at the hospital, smoking one cigarette after another. The Wang Corporation's stock had plummeted. Its employees were disgusted, never imagining their boss and his son could be such people.

The Yellow-haired Man's mother finally arrived late in the afternoon. The area outside the Third Hospital was packed solid with police cars and netizens who had been drawn by the notoriety, some to spectate and others to demand justice.

She squeezed through the crowd, and after a difficult struggle, she was about to enter the hospital.

But she was quickly stopped by several police officers near the entrance. "Sorry, ma'am, the police are currently investigating inside the hospital. No one is allowed in or out."

The Yellow-haired Man's mother stated her identity, only to see the surrounding officers' gazes turn strange.

A female officer looked her up and down with disgust before turning to whisper something to her colleague.

Before leaving, the Yellow-haired Man's mother had only heard from her friends that her son was suspected in a murder case that had been exposed online. But she didn't really use Weibo and had no idea how influential the platform was, or how massive the negative impact of her son's actions had become.

It could be said that it had caused a public panic.

Finally, just as her patience was wearing thin, an older officer came over and allowed her to enter the hospital.

Enduring the myriad of strange looks from behind, the Yellow-haired Man's mother finally walked through the main entrance.

Downstairs, she found Wang Mingcheng chain-smoking. She walked over and sat beside him. "Mingcheng, where's our son? What on earth is going on?"

Wang Mingcheng turned to give her a glacial look before turning back. He took out his phone, tapped it a few times, and she received several forwarded messages.

After clicking on the links, the color drained from her face. She was half terrified, half shocked.

Her arm, clutching the phone, trembled, and her voice grew weak. "Mingcheng… is… is this our son?"

Wang Mingcheng continued to smoke, replying impatiently, "That piece of trash is no son of mine."

The Yellow-haired Man's mother was stunned. "Mingcheng! How can you say such a thing! Don't forget, you've cleaned up his messes plenty of times before! If you don't step in and suppress this, our son will be completely ruined!"

Wang Mingcheng threw his cigarette butt to the ground and crushed it viciously with his leather shoe. "Lao Wang has skipped town. He was the one who handled all the clean-up operations before. He took advantage of his position as our family's butler to contact the police chief and the judge on his own. I, Wang Mingcheng, knew nothing about it."

Furious, the Yellow-haired Man's mother shot to her feet. "Wang Mingcheng, how can you say something so heartless! If you don't do something, your precious son will truly be finished!"

Wang Mingcheng was clearly fed up with the chattering woman. He stood up, looking down at the woman who had betrayed him. "No, he's only your precious son. He was never a descendant of the Wang family. He made his own mistakes, and he has to face the consequences. I'm done wasting my breath on you. If you want to find him, go find him yourself. Wang Corporation has been dragged through the mud by this garbage. If anything happens to the company I worked so hard to build, neither of you, nor anyone from your family, will escape." After his harsh words, Wang Mingcheng casually pulled a report from his pocket, tossed it at her, and turned to leave. He still had to deal with the major blows facing his company.

The Yellow-haired Man's mother caught the report. When she saw the blood type section, her mind exploded with a deafening roar.

It's over. Could this secret no longer be hidden?!

She frantically called Uncle Wang, only to be met with a voice prompt: the user you have dialed has switched off their phone.

The Yellow-haired Man's mother stood dazedly under the scorching sun, thinking, this time, it really might be over…

Inside the hospital, Yi Shuhan was leaning on the balcony of the inpatient ward, enjoying a sunbath with Chi Junluo on her back. She rested her chin in her hands, watching the bustling scene downstairs and at the abandoned old building across the way. Police officers moved in and out, gathering all sorts of evidence. Finally, the door of the old building was sealed with a strip of paper.

In an interrogation room upstairs, two nurses finally broke down after watching the video of Yi Shuhan from the previous night on the Yellow-haired Man's phone. They confessed to their crimes and were escorted to the police station.

The Yellow-haired Man's black iPhone was carefully secured and handed over to the special investigation team from the central government. After reviewing all the pictures and videos on the phone, the officers quickly investigated several of the Yellow-haired Man's properties in Chang City, paying special attention to a secluded private villa.

By the time the police arrived, it was nearly evening. Since the Yellow-haired Man was still unconscious from the shock, the police couldn't be sure if any other accomplices were hiding in the villa.

The officers climbed over the fence into the yard, then crept quietly to a window and slipped inside. In a spare bedroom, they caught a man who was sleeping. When he was dragged from the bed and pinned to the floor, he looked utterly bewildered, but a flash of panic soon crossed his face.

During a thorough search, the police discovered a huge, hidden basement.

The scene inside perfectly matched the photos on the Yellow-haired Man's phone. In a large dog cage with thick bars, they found three imprisoned women. Two were clearly pregnant, their bellies swollen. The women were completely naked, with dog collars around their necks and their long hair disheveled. Fortunately, they were still alive, but they had clearly suffered extreme psychological trauma and were no longer lucid. The police called for an ambulance to take the rescued women to a hospital for examination. After photographing the scene for evidence, they sealed it off.

A reporter from the central news network obtained the firsthand information from the police. After quickly organizing and formatting it, they published a follow-up report.

News about the "Young Master of the Wang Family" was always what netizens paid the most attention to. However, as his crimes were revealed one by one, the netizens' anger only grew.

Many even became "Weibo judges," clamoring for someone like the Yellow-haired Man to be put to death immediately. Others felt that a single bullet was too lenient and that he should be subjected to the Ten Great Tortures of the Qing Dynasty!

Late at night, the police officers guarding the Yellow-haired Man's hospital room suddenly felt drowsy. Before they could realize something was wrong, they slumped to the floor, asleep against the wall. From around the corner of the hallway, a petite figure slowly approached. "Chi Chi, you're amazing. You even made them fall asleep."

The girl turned her head slightly, speaking to someone behind her, but there was no one there. Anyone who saw this would have been utterly creeped out.

But upon closer inspection, one would notice two shadows on the floor under the hallway's cold, dim light.

Gently pushing open the Yellow-haired Man's door, the human and the ghost swaggered inside. There were no surveillance cameras in this area, so they had no fear of being discovered.

The Yellow-haired Man had already woken up during the day. He had only been pretending to be unconscious to buy more time for his father to bail him out. Now, in a drowsy state, he suddenly heard the door creak open.

Then, the air in the room turned frigid. Even though he was under a thick blanket, he couldn't help but shiver.

After entering, Yi Shuhan stood by his bed, waiting for him to wake up, while Chi Junluo pressed a large mass of Ghost Qi down on him.

The Yellow-haired Man quickly regained consciousness, only to find he couldn't move his limbs or body. He struggled in terror. Was he experiencing sleep paralysis?

When he managed to turn his head, he suddenly saw Yi Shuhan standing ramrod straight beside his bed. The light was too dim, casting deep shadows on her face, with only her eyes shining brightly. The Yellow-haired Man was scared half to death. He desperately tried to scream to get the attention of the officers on duty outside. If even one person came in, he wouldn't be this terrified. "Hh…"

He gasped for breath but couldn't make a sound, utterly horrified. Finally, he wrenched his head to the other side and was met with the sight of a pale, bloody ghost face. The Yellow-haired Man's eyes rolled back, and he was about to faint when a cool energy suddenly surged into his mouth, instantly jolting him awake. "Hehehe," a strange laugh came from the little girl from Room No. 1 on his left. To his right, the chilling aura grew stronger. The Yellow-haired Man struggled free from the Ghost Qi's restraint and tumbled off the bed with a thud. He clutched his forehead, taking a long moment to recover. The room was empty again, as if everything just now had been an illusion.

He shook his head and was about to get up from the floor. As he turned, he came face-to-face with a ghostly visage under the bed, its eyeball dangling from its socket.

"AHHHH!!!" The Yellow-haired Man let out a piercing scream and, this time, truly fainted.

The police outside were jolted awake by the scream. They looked at their equally sleepy colleagues in confusion, then, without a second thought, pushed open the door and turned on the light. The Yellow-haired Man's upper body was under the dark bed, his two legs sticking out stiffly, looking as if he were dead. The officers were startled and quickly dragged him out. Fortunately, he had only fainted from fright and was otherwise unharmed.

Around the corner of the hallway, Yi Shuhan leaned against the wall, grinning happily. Chi Junluo reached out and gently flicked her forehead. "You little rascal."

Yi Shuhan rubbed her forehead, then saw several translucent, shadowless ghosts floating up from downstairs, clearly drawn by something. She poked her head out and saw a group of them drifting toward the Yellow-haired Man's room.

"I planted a lot of Ghost Qi on him. As long as he doesn't die, he'll never be free of ghosts for the rest of his life," Chi Junluo explained. "Let's go, Shuhan. It's late. Time to go back to sleep."

"Okay."

A ghost clinging to a person, they walked on two shadows back toward Room No. 1 on the second floor.
