DDT - Chapter 73
Chapter 73: Female Ghost × Little Pitiful One (5)
After the little boy left, Yi Shuhan returned to Room No. 1, carrying the ghost sister, Chi Junluo, on her back.
"Sister Chi?" Yi Shuhan asked softly.
"Mm," Chi Junluo replied lazily, still draped languidly over her back.
But Yi Shuhan clearly couldn't hear her. She could only confirm the ghost sister was still nearby, or rather, on her back, by the warm sensation there.
"Who are you? What's your name? Why do you like to lie on my back? And at night, are you the one holding me while I sleep?" Yi Shuhan sat on the mattress, a cascade of questions tumbling from her lips, looking incredibly curious.
Three black lines streaked across Chi Junluo's sea of consciousness: It's over. Has this child gone mad?
Time passed quickly. After Yi Shuhan had spent some time muttering to her ghost Chi in Room No. 1, the lunchtime music began to play. Yi Shuhan swayed to her feet, opened the door, and ambled toward the cafeteria.
Over the past few days, the warmth on her back had become a habit. Knowing there was a ghost there didn't cause her much stress; after all, she hadn't sensed any malice from the ghost on her back so far.
Chi Junluo obediently hung on Yi Shuhan's back, continuously collecting the Power of the Heavenly Dao. The girl and the ghost strolled into the less-than-lively cafeteria.
In the cafeteria, the patients were lining up for their meals. Two listless nurses sat beside the long queue with bowls in their hands, eating and chatting, completely unconcerned about any potential disturbances in the line.
As a polite and well-behaved child, Yi Shuhan queued obediently in the middle of the line. Chi Junluo clung obediently to Yi Shuhan's back. Smelling the aroma of human food from the cafeteria, Chi Junluo felt a long-forgotten craving that made her want to drool. She desperately wanted to eat, but it was probably impossible in this world.
Sob, sob.
Yi Shuhan was currently unable to receive Chi Junluo's thoughts. The line moved forward bit by bit, and it was almost Yi Shuhan's turn. Suddenly, the yellow-haired man from the library abruptly cut in, shoving the unprepared Yi Shuhan back two steps and causing her to bump into an older woman behind her.
"Ouch!" the woman cried out. Her legs trembled as she glared at Yi Shuhan, who had turned around. "What's wrong with you, little girl? Don't you have eyes? Didn't you see someone behind you?"
Yi Shuhan shot a glare at the smug yellow-haired man before repeatedly apologizing to the woman behind her.
The woman was relentless, spewing a stream of nasty insults and even giving Yi Shuhan a shove. Caught off guard, Yi Shuhan nearly fell. The surrounding patients all turned their heads to watch the confrontation between Yi Shuhan and the woman.
The yellow-haired man whistled triumphantly and turned to get his food.
Being pierced by so many gazes was an uncomfortable feeling. Coupled with the fact that the woman had gotten physical first, Yi Shuhan grew annoyed. Seeing the two seated nurses looking on as if it had nothing to do with them, she finally stopped apologizing. "Ma'am, are you done? I accidentally bumped into you, is it really necessary to be so foul-mouthed? Did a dog eat your manners?"
Hearing this, the woman became even more incensed. She opened her mouth to shout, but Yi Shuhan, using her height advantage, stretched out a long arm and grabbed the unreasonable woman by the collar. Her other hand clenched into a fist. "Say one more word, and see if I don't beat you. Do you know how I got in here? I beat several boys until their heads were bleeding. I don't mind wrapping your head in a few layers of gauze for fun."
Seeing Yi Shuhan's aggression, and that she was taller and younger, the woman feared she might actually get hit in a moment of impulse. Noticing the ferocity flashing in Yi Shuhan's eyes, she decisively backed down.
Chi Junluo couldn't help but applaud from Yi Shuhan's back. The heroine is so awesome! She had originally planned to intervene, but she hadn't expected Yi Shuhan to be so tough. It made sense; if she wasn't afraid of several tall boys, why would she fear a shameless old woman?
"Hey, they're serving food. Are you eating or not?" an impatient man's voice came from behind Yi Shuhan. She let go of the woman's collar and turned to get her meal.
With a large bowl of food, Yi Shuhan found an empty seat in a corner of the cafeteria as usual and prepared to eat. Unexpectedly, the yellow-haired man seemed to have set his sights on her. He slowly dragged his tray toward her. Chi Junluo's eyes darkened. This psychotic yellow-haired man seemed to be looking for trouble with her heroine again, harassing her even during a meal. Enough was enough!
As the yellow-haired man reached the table next to Yi Shuhan's, he pulled out a chair, stuck one foot forward, and was about to sit down. In that split second, Chi Junluo, still on Yi Shuhan's back, used her mental power to wrap the Power of the Heavenly Dao around the chair's legs. With a sharp tug, she pulled the chair backward. The yellow-haired man sat down on empty air, landing flat on his butt on the floor. The food and soup from his tray splashed all over his clothes and pants. He was completely stunned. The loud scraping sound of the chair he had pushed back drew the attention of the other patients. He snapped back to reality. "What the hell are you looking at!" he reflexively snarled, turning his head. He saw the elegant and poised Yi Shuhan, whose indifferent eyes were staring straight at him, filled with mockery and ridicule. Behind Yi Shuhan, there seemed to be another, extremely imposing gaze fixed on him. A chill ran down his spine. "Don't you get too happy, you bitch. I'll have plenty of chances to deal with you!"
Yi Shuhan: ???
The yellow-haired man scrambled up from the floor in a sorry state, covered in grease, and went to find a nurse on duty to change his clothes.
Yi Shuhan looked at the mess of soup and rice on the floor beside her, feeling a bit nauseous. She quickly picked up her tray and moved to another spot to continue her meal.
Indeed, out of sight, out of mind.
After finishing her eventful meal, Yi Shuhan rubbed her stomach and went for a pleasant stroll in the hallway. Chi Junluo licked her lips, still a little hungry. Fortunately, ghosts didn't get hungry.
Over the past few days, Yi Shuhan had developed a habit of using the restroom in the middle of the night. For convenience, the nurses no longer locked her door at night.
So, Yi Shuhan happily brought Chi Junluo, who was clinging to her, to the bathroom for a meet-up.
Chi Junluo, on her way to the bathroom on Yi Shuhan's back: ??? Something about this location doesn't feel right…
It was a few minutes before midnight. It was said that midnight was when the yin energy was at its strongest. Yi Shuhan thought to herself that it was no wonder she had been able to see the ghost on her back in the bathroom mirror that night.
Yi Shuhan washed her hands and splashed some cold water on her face, feeling much more awake. The time slowly ticked by.
Yi Shuhan stared intently at the mirror. The lightbulb above flickered a few times, plunging her vision into intermittent darkness for a second or two. When the light stabilized, Yi Shuhan saw the long-haired ghost sister on her back appear in the mirror once again. The difference was, this time the ghost sister seemed to have prepared herself and didn't scream in terror.
The pale-faced ghost sister looked up, her eyes curving into crescents as a gentle smile touched her lips. "Shuhan, hello~"
The ghost sister had tucked her long black hair behind her ear. It wasn't messy at all, a clear sign that she had tidied up a bit before revealing herself.
A mix of excitement and curiosity filled Yi Shuhan's eyes. She gently reached out to touch the ghost sister's hand. To her surprise, she actually felt it!
The ghost sister's hand was a bit cold, lacking the warmth of a living person. Her skin was as white as paper, yet Yi Shuhan felt no fear.
The warmth on her back reminded her that ghosts had a temperature too.
When Yi Shuhan's small hand took hers, Chi Junluo's eyes trembled. This was the first time she had experienced such tangible contact since arriving in this world. She was so moved!
Yi Shuhan turned her head slightly. Her own shoulder was still empty, and a hint of disappointment crept into her heart. She had thought they could talk face-to-face outside the mirror.
Yi Shuhan asked nervously, "Sister Chi, what's your name?"
Chi Junluo thought for a moment and decided to tell her. "Chi Junluo. Chi as in 'belated,' Jun as in 'noble,' and Luo as in 'falling flowers have feelings, but the flowing water is heartless.'"
Yi Shuhan carefully committed the name to memory, marveling at what a powerful name it was.
Chi Junluo turned her face to the side, feeling a bit guilty. After all, the name Chi Xiangxiang really didn't suit her status. Damn it!
The girl and the ghost fell silent for a moment, at a loss for words. It was their first official meeting, and both were a little nervous.
Yi Shuhan hesitated for a while before saying cautiously, "Sister Chi, did you know, you're the only one who's willing to talk to me properly…"
Chi Junluo reached out and stroked Yi Shuhan's fluffy head, saying gently, "As long as you want, I'll talk with you every day."
"Mhm, it's just that the location isn't exactly ideal," Yi Shuhan agreed.
Outside the bathroom, the yellow-haired man, who had woken up in the middle of the night to relieve himself, was just coming out of the men's room. As he was about to head back to his room, he heard the sound of two girls chattering in the women's restroom next door. It sounded a bit creepy in the dead of night.
"Damn it, what kind of psychos come to the bathroom to chat in the middle of the night?" The yellow-haired man was curious. He peeked his head around the door of the women's restroom. From his angle, he couldn't see the mirror, only the skinny girl from earlier who had piqued his sadistic interest.
A flash of excitement and malice crossed the yellow-haired man's eyes. He glanced around; there was no one else. So he swaggered right in.
The girl and the ghost, in the middle of their meet-up, heard the footsteps and stopped talking. They turned their heads to see the yellow-haired man walking into the women's restroom with a smirk.
Chi and Yi: What kind of pervert is this?! Barging into the women's restroom at night!
A trace of vigilance appeared in Yi Shuhan's eyes. She cautiously took two steps back, her eyes scanning the surroundings for anything she could use for self-defense. But apart from a trash can, she saw nothing.
Chi Junluo gently leaned close to Yi Shuhan's ear. "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
Hearing this, Yi Shuhan relaxed slightly. She didn't need to panic; she had a beautiful and powerful female ghost with her, after all.
"Little bitch, I've found you, hahaha. I told you I wouldn't let you go."
The yellow-haired man rolled up his sleeves and approached Yi Shuhan, who in his eyes was small, helpless, and pitiful.
As he walked, the lights above his head and in the hallway suddenly flickered with a crackle. The abrupt darkness startled him, and he stopped. The lights stopped flickering.
The yellow-haired man: ???
He came back to his senses and saw Yi Shuhan standing calmly in place. The itch in his heart returned. He took another step forward, and the lights began to flicker again. Two of the hallway lights went out completely, looking as if they had burned out. The yellow-haired man felt something was wrong. By now, he had reached the mirror.
A sudden gust of wind blew through the bathroom. The yellow-haired man squinted against it. He turned his head to avoid the wind and saw an incredible sight in the mirror. There, on Yi Shuhan's back, was a female ghost.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief, turned to look at Yi Shuhan—there was nothing on her—then looked back at the mirror. The female ghost lifted her head. Dark red blood trickled down her cheeks, dripping onto the floor to form a puddle. The ghost's mouth split open, the gash extending to her ears, revealing rows of sharp, bone-white teeth.
A sharp female voice rang out, "It's been so long since I've tasted the flesh of a man. Today, a human has finally delivered himself to my door! Jie jie jie…"
The eerie, hollow voice sounded terrifying in the howling wind. The yellow-haired man's legs went weak with fear. He stared in panic at the mirror, at the patient's gown on the ghost, which was soaked in red blood. The blood stretched toward him like tentacles, while Yi Shuhan just watched him, seemingly oblivious. As the blood was about to touch him, "Ah!!!" The yellow-haired man finally couldn't take it anymore. He screamed, his legs trembling as he scrambled out of the bathroom. He even tripped and fell at the doorway, but he ignored the pain because he felt something poke his butt.
"Ahhhhhh!!" The man's coarse screams echoed through the entire hallway, alerting the doctors and nurses. In the corridor, several nurses pinned down the struggling yellow-haired man. A foul-smelling yellow liquid dripped down his pants. "There's a ghost! There's a ghost in the women's restroom!!!"
The yellow-haired man was babbling incoherently. The nurses' faces darkened. They gave him a sedative, and only then did he stop thrashing. After dealing with him, they tossed him into his room and went to check the women's restroom together.
In the women's restroom, the lights were bright, the window was shut tight, and it was empty. The nurses were annoyed, feeling like they had been tricked. They left the bathroom in a huff. It seemed they would have to increase the yellow-haired man's medication. His hallucinations were getting too severe, seriously disturbing the other patients and their own rest!
Back in Room No. 1, the girl and the ghost, their meet-up concluded, lay on the bed. Chi Junluo hugged Yi Shuhan from behind, accompanying her as she slowly drifted into dreamland.
Looking forward to the next meet-up…
