Chapter 33

“You’re sick.”

That was the first thing Luo Yueqing said when she came in.

Xi Zhoulu subconsciously looked up toward the door.

Luo Yueqing was wearing a cream-colored long dress today, with a matching sweater draped over her shoulders. The thin straps of her high heels were fastened at her ankles. The look softened her charming features, giving her a rare gentleness.

“They told me you bought medicine,” Luo Yueqing said as she walked over, a cloth bag in her hand. It was presumably the lunch she had brought.

Xi Zhoulu came back to her senses, lowered her head, and loosened her tight grip on the folder. “Yes,” she said simply.

She had planned not to mention it to Luo Yueqing, to just act as if nothing was wrong, but it seemed someone had let it slip before she even had the chance to pretend.

Luo Yueqing hadn’t noticed anything amiss yet. She just assumed that the window in the bedroom had been left open last night, letting in the cold, rainy wind and giving Xi Zhoulu a chill.

She asked, “Have you taken your medicine?”

Xi Zhoulu stared at the document, unable to comprehend a single word. Finally, she could only say vaguely, “I took a throat lozenge.”

Xi Zhoulu didn’t want to lie to Luo Yueqing, but she didn’t want to confess the truth either, so she settled for a clever evasion.

Luo Yueqing misunderstood, thinking she was avoiding taking cold medicine on an empty stomach because it would upset her. “Then take it after you eat.”

The woman opposite her nodded. Not wanting to continue the conversation, she set the folder aside and changed the subject. “What did you bring?”

“The butler told them to prepare it. He said you like light food, so they packed crab roe tofu, stir-fried lotus root…” Luo Yueqing walked up to her and set the bag down. She subconsciously moved to sit on Xi Zhoulu’s lap, but as her gaze drifted downward, she paused for some reason.

Xi Zhoulu naturally saw her hesitation. Her eyelids fluttered. “Let’s eat inside,” she said.

There was a small kitchen in the lounge with a small dining table that could seat four. Most importantly, there were enough chairs for Luo Yueqing to have her own seat.

Luo Yueqing agreed, then looked down at her without a word, a teasing smile playing on her lips as if asking, Can you even get up?

Last night had been intense. By the end, Xi Zhoulu didn’t even have the strength to get out of bed and had to be carried to her wheelchair by Luo Yueqing.

As for now…

The mischievous woman deliberately stayed silent, wanting to hear Xi Zhoulu admit defeat.

Xi Zhoulu sighed in resignation. It wasn’t that she was completely drained of strength. She had just been exhausted right after they finished. Now, after resting all morning, it might be a bit difficult, but she wasn’t completely immobile.

She glanced up at the other woman. The little fox had her arms crossed, her tail wagging back and forth behind her as if in great anticipation. Xi Zhoulu could guess what Luo Yueqing’s wicked little game was.

She loved it when Xi Zhoulu tearfully begged, showing a reluctant and helpless vulnerability, hesitating to speak yet choosing to indulge her anyway.

At times like these, Luo Yueqing was always exceptionally happy, and her tail would wag even faster.

Vicious.

Xi Zhoulu grumbled silently to herself but still raised a hand toward Luo Yueqing. “Carry me in,” she whispered.

Luo Yueqing’s eyebrows shot up. Instead of letting it go, she asked with a beaming smile, “What did you say?”

She was deliberately pretending not to hear, not to understand, without any attempt to hide it.

Xi Zhoulu looked up at her. The sunlight fell on her face, making her pale blue-gray eyes resemble rare and precious blue sapphires, reminiscent of a Persian cat that demanded to be pampered.

Luo Yueqing tilted her head, thinking the comparison was quite apt. Artificially bred cats always had one or two with defects. Some were abandoned, while others were left in the cattery, given only the most basic cat food, and otherwise left to fend for themselves.

That’s why such cats were extremely wary. The moment someone approached, they would bare their teeth and claws, as if to say, I’m so fierce, I hate humans the most.

But if you patiently coaxed it, stroked its fur until it accepted you, it would become a completely different creature.

It would get jealous and not let you pet other cats. It would intentionally or unintentionally brush its tail against you, telling you, Come on, pet me. Even if you got a wicked urge to do something mischievous, it would just stare at you with its beautiful eyes, not the least bit angry.

Luo Yueqing suddenly called out, “Kitty.”

“Huh?” Xi Zhoulu was taken aback, not understanding what she meant.

But Luo Yueqing just smiled, her eyes curving into crescents. She reached out her hands to her and said, “Come here, little kitty. Let me hold you.”

Xi Zhoulu now understood what she meant, and her expression grew complicated. She had heard many nicknames for herself, but this was the first time anyone had called her that.

A faint blush crept up her earlobes. Xi Zhoulu opened her mouth and chided without any real force, “Stop fooling around.”

She was still dressed in a very formal, serious suit, the buttons of her shirt done up to the very top. Even her posture was ramrod straight. How could she possibly be associated with such a cute animal?

Xi Zhoulu didn’t quite agree.

Luo Yueqing didn’t argue. She simply bent down and lifted her up. It didn’t take much effort. Xi Zhoulu, who seemed to live a life of luxury, meticulously cared for by a crowd of people, was actually very light, like a thin sheet of paper that barely registered on her forearm.

Still, Xi Zhoulu secretly tensed up, even though it pulled at her waist and made the soreness worse, causing her to frown slightly.

Luo Yueqing raised an eyebrow and let out another wicked remark. “CEO Xi, my arms aren’t sore.”

“Hm?” Xi Zhoulu was puzzled, waiting for her to continue.

Luo Yueqing went on, “I could go a few more rounds without a problem. You don’t have to save my strength.”

Luo Yueqing was lazy and rarely exercised, but her S-class Alpha constitution was simply too good. Even after a whole night of exertion, a little rest the next day was all she needed—far better than the person who was constantly holding her lower back.

Hearing this, Xi Zhoulu instantly deflated and shot the other woman a glare.

Luo Yueqing just laughed and told her to grab the lunch containers.

The lounge door opened. Luo Yueqing bypassed the living area and carefully placed Xi Zhoulu on a chair. Everything else had been prepared by the butler, right down to the bowls and chopsticks. They didn’t need to worry about a thing; they just had to open the containers.

It was now noon, and the sunlight was growing brighter. The autumn this year was strange; it was still quite hot even though the season was more than halfway through. Last night’s rain hadn’t brought any relief.

The only sound in the room was the occasional clink of utensils. The two of them sat facing each other in silence.

Luo Yueqing was lost in thought about something, while Xi Zhoulu was simply tired. After a restless night and a busy morning, on top of having to humor Luo Yueqing just now, she felt exhausted after sitting down for a moment. She stopped eating after only a few bites.

Luo Yueqing wasn’t heartless. Seeing this, she quickly finished her own meal and carried Xi Zhoulu back to the bedroom.

A wave of drowsiness washed over Xi Zhoulu. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she drifted off. In a daze, she thought she heard Luo Yueqing mention taking medicine.

She pointed to the cabinet where she had hidden the items and closed her eyes less than a second later.

The afternoon was quiet. The tall building insulated them from the noisy clamor of the city. Soft, white clouds were embedded in the clear sky, and the distant mountains were a hazy silhouette.

Xi Zhoulu slept very deeply. She vaguely heard the rustle of plastic and the sound of footsteps. Normally, she would have woken up immediately, but now she only stirred for a moment before falling back asleep.

After sleeping a while longer, it seemed time had passed. Her secretary came and knocked on the door. Luo Yueqing got up to open it and spoke with her in a low voice for a few moments. Then she came back and called Xi Zhoulu’s name a few times. When Xi Zhoulu didn’t respond, the voice faded. The spot next to her dipped again, and the scent of roses mixed with red wine filled the air.

Xi Zhoulu slept even more soundly.

When she finally woke up, it was because Luo Yueqing had called her name an unknown number of times. Xi Zhoulu groggily opened her eyes, a haze clouding her vision.

Luo Yueqing was sitting beside her, a cool hand resting on her cheek. “Time to wake up,” she coaxed softly.

Xi Zhoulu’s mind was sluggish. It took her a moment to ask, “What time is it?”

Her voice was low and hoarse, but luckily Luo Yueqing understood.

“Three o’clock,” she answered quietly.

Xi Zhoulu frowned, annoyed. “Why is it so late? Was the meeting postponed?”

Luo Yueqing nodded, her cool fingers smoothing the crease between Xi Zhoulu’s brows.

The weather was hot, but due to her physical condition, Xi Zhoulu rarely used the air conditioner. After a nap, she was covered in sweat. Luo Yueqing’s cool touch brought some relief, and her irritation dissipated, allowing drowsiness to slowly return.

She lay there for a while longer before hearing the other woman speak again. “Should I help you apply the medicine?”

Apply medicine?

What medicine?

Her exhausted brain didn’t process it. Xi Zhoulu nodded absently, reached out to wrap her arms around Luo Yueqing’s waist, and buried her face in her abdomen.

She clearly hadn’t understood what the other woman was saying at all. She just wanted to get it over with so she could hold her.

For once, Luo Yueqing was patient, patting Xi Zhoulu’s back again and again. Even through the clothes, she could feel the sharp line of her ribs. After a moment, Luo Yueqing’s other hand moved downward, stopping at the waistband of her pants.

Xi Zhoulu didn’t think much of it. Luo Yueqing had already taken off her jacket while she was half-asleep, so she didn’t think to resist now. She even lifted her hips slightly to help.

What finally jolted her awake was the cool sensation of the ointment as it was applied.

Xi Zhoulu, still buried in the other woman’s embrace, snapped to full alertness. Memories flooded back. This medicine must be for…

Slender, fair fingers coated in ointment entered inch by inch. The movements were gentle, but the area was too swollen and tender.

Xi Zhoulu let out a muffled groan and clutched tightly at Luo Yueqing’s clothes.

Luo Yueqing thought she was in pain and stopped after inserting two knuckles, patting her back soothingly.

But it clearly had no effect. Instead of relaxing, Xi Zhoulu clenched even tighter, trapping Luo Yueqing’s fingers.

Luo Yueqing had no choice but to coax her in a low voice, “Relax a little. It’ll be over in a moment.”

The tips of Xi Zhoulu’s ears, hidden by her hair, were red enough to bleed. They had done such intimate things before, but at a time like this, she still felt mortified.

She took a deep breath. Just as she relaxed a little, she felt Luo Yueqing go deeper. She couldn’t help but hiss.

The cool ointment swirled inside. Xi Zhoulu thought it was over, but then she saw Luo Yueqing apply more medicine and insert her fingers again.

Xi Zhoulu immediately turned and buried her face in Luo Yueqing’s embrace. If she couldn’t stop it, she would just hide from it. She vaguely remembered that she was the one who had pointed Luo Yueqing in the right direction.

As she was stewing in regret, she heard Luo Yueqing say hesitantly, “You need to control yourself a little.”

Xi Zhoulu didn’t quite understand. She blinked and looked up at Luo Yueqing.

Luo Yueqing added, “It’s too wet. The medicine will just run out…”

As her words fell, the atmosphere became utterly silent. All of Xi Zhoulu’s drowsiness vanished. She wanted nothing more than to burrow under the covers, but she was held tightly and couldn’t move.

Luo Yueqing patted her back. “Good kitty, it’ll be over in a moment.”

Xi Zhoulu pretended not to hear.

After another moment, Luo Yueqing said with difficulty, “It’s really too tight, I can’t get in…”

Xi Zhoulu: “…Get lost.”
